As much as I love Gems, I am sort of wondering why they're working on these emoticons and not on the iPhone version.

I have been using the old version and texting a few of my android friends and sending them gems.  To me, it is already the best messaging app in the world.  We just need the iPhone version so it can be used by everyone!

I think there will be time for cute little emoticons later.

I hope the app doesn't become too cluttered.

Saying that I live in Korea and would love it if Gemz developed later into something like Kaotalk. I don't know much about messenger apps but there seems a lot of room for expansion once you get users onboard. I think Kaotalk has separate apps though. I wonder if the Gems team have a product they want to emulate or have a separate vision? Will the app ever get a calling option?

http://www.kakao.com/

Although none of these apps make it able to do money transactions instantly with zero fees and rewarding users like gems plans to do. This alone is revolutionary. This app needs to go mainstream before one of these messengers start to copy its model.

I think every legit feature the community wants to see can and will eventually get implemented, updating the code is something that is always happening. Even apps that are out for years are still improving. I think there are some suggestions by the community regarding features, something for Danial maybe in the next Q&A.

I agree the absolute KEY to this app is distinguishing itself by its cryptocurrency element and its user owned advertising model. Everything else is moving a bit off point really. I was just thinking forward that once Gems has a solid user base it is a project that can move beyond messenging to wider social media and beyond to eCommerce for example. The advertising system that rewards the actual users is unique and should really be highlighted. Its kind of democratization of social, I think people want this a lot especially those tired of FB etc making money off OUR personal info. Plus apps like snapchat etc are already moving into payments, I know its not crypto but to the average Joe its the same. What singles this project out is the advertising/attention model. I don't think many have grasped how revolutionary this system could be.

I don't know if using Telegram was a mistake or not but I REALLY want to see the app on iOS and the airdrop in place within one to two months, 3 months MAX. Timing is essential.

Marketing marketing marketing ......

-Looks better than whatsapp
-100% free (whatsapp costs like 0,8 euro a year)
-lightning fast and easy payment methods in btc and gems
-secure .. nobody can read your stuff etc

I missed something? hehe So where on the internet can people see the advantages of gems etc? I could only persuade 3-4 friends to install the gems messenger. They dont care about security and one of them said .... quote: wtf is cryptocurrencies?

Basically we need whatsapp to get hacked... very very hard... sooo hard that people cant use the app for dayzzzz... If something like this occurs in the future and gems isnt exploiting this happening then i don't think you are ruthless enough to be the best.

Making new tech is nice, but if you dont crave to be the best and be ruthless .... then lesser tech will beat you Wink

You forgot that it pays users for using it in lots of different innovative ways seen here and here . O and don't use the term cryptocurrency they don't understand it, just say it's money, give the example of how much bitcoin is worth.

The Obama admin has given Gems yet another gift. If Gems doesn't have our info then I guess they can't share it.

"Gems is The First Social Currency Network."
lolololololololollllllllllllllll bwahahahahahahaha
I can't even remember how many coins have claimed to be the "social currency".
Grin they have nothing new to fud people Cheesy

Not trying to fud anyone.

We are building an app that is very similar to WhatsApp that everyone knows and is used to but with 3 main advantages:
(1) the users own the network - you get rewarded for inviting more people to use the app and also get paid for accepting unsolicited messages and sharing more information.
(2) you can be as anonymous as you desire.
(3) the app is going to function also as an easy to use wallet - the username is an alias to the gems address, making sending & receiving gems and bitcoins between users as easy as possible.  Sending gems/bitcoins will be as simple as sending an SMS to your friend.

We think that these 3 points will make it a lot easier for new non techie people to join the cryptocurrency revolution.

In our opinion the main attraction to the currency will be driven by 1) user growth and 2) text usage.

Unlike most coin Gems are backed up by real value which is the users thus advertiser will be the main reason to the drive the value of gems higher. Advertiser need to buy gems in the exchanges in order to send unsolicited messages to the network - so there will always be a demand to buy gems in the market.

If users accept to receive unsolicited messages they will be reward with gems. if users give more information about themselves they will be reward with gems. but if you want to stay anonymous and not receive any “spam” you can do that also.

We think this model is a good solution to the "spam problem" every social network has - would love some feedback/suggestion about the "Gems Pay For Social Reach" model?

Reminds me of a failed project Zurker that has almost similar business model, user owns share of social network. Dude please don't scam us with this.

^ and bitcoin reminds me to failed earlier digital currencies with a similar model, bitcoin must be a scam! Luckily Getgems will be used outside of bitcointalk trolls and everything about it just makes sense and has a purpose for people to use so nobody cares what u say.

On thing I love about Gems is its almost FUD untouchable. If it gets users absolutely no one will care what they post on this little niche site. That's why we haven't really had much FUD. The only possible thing FUD can do is lower the price at this early development stage, personally I think that's all good.

Despite what some people say in this thread, allowing short gifs (or similar formats) in an unobtrusive manner is a HUGE selling point for a chat application and something that WhatsApp and several others don't think is worth the time of day.

I'm not against it but let's not overplay it. Let's not forget it's already on the Telegram app and probably many of the clones of Telegram of which there are quite a few. The focus on what Gems has that is different to others is the most important surely. It's a cryptocurrency app that users earn real 'money' and that democratises social by sharing the profit of an app with its users. That's the big hook as I see it.

On the subject of exchanges we are down to one major one now with BTER not likely to be up and running anytime soon. I personally we need at least another major exchange. Going along with that the bigger picture is we need to get rid of centralised exchanges completely and have a user friendly way to buy Gems.
