I'm going to be having a short (< 1 minute) restart on the server this weekend to update pushpool.  The update will reduce overall load on the MySQL database, and it will include a fix to the reset column so it won't be resetting the counts.

Do we need to restart the miners (poclbm) after the outage or will they just recover on their own?

It varies from miner to miner, but they should be able to recover.  The downtime is expected to be extremely short (ie: About 1 second), it's simply killing one pushpool instance which will -instantly- start up the new version.

Will be changing the favicon this weekend.

Additionally, it looks like we've been hit by an attack in the last hour.  Server didn't get taken down by it, but it did cause a spurt of some idles/RPC errors, dropping the pool speed by about 15%.  They should be clearing up now.

I was noticing some RPC errors on my miners - was wondering what was up.  Good to see the pool has mostly withstood these attacks so far.  I was only going down for a second or two each time.

An update on the status of the pool going under maintenance to release a more efficient pushpool version:

The pool will be going down for a few SECONDS at 5 PM (PDT, GMT-7).  Most miners should be able to handle this and reconnect, but there are always a few that refuse to reconnect.

I noticed the times on the blocks screen https://www.btcguild.com/blocks.php are in UTC, but the times on the payout history screen https://www.btcguild.com/my_payouts.php are local (US/Pacific)?

Thank you for pointing that out.  Payout listing has now been converted to UTC.

The current consensus is at least one other pool operator has made a trip into tribal lands in Africa to recruit a team of witch doctors, which are continually hexing our pool.

(Back to reality:  It's just rotten luck, and we can only hope is evened out by a spree of quick blocks in the near future.)

Heh.  Just as reasonable expectation as any I guess Smiley   Thats the kicker of probability.  Hopefully the next block wont be so vicious!

Look at the bright side, you'll be a part of a record breaking event if this round keeps going!  Always look at the bright side (I have to keep telling myself this or the IRC/forum possts/PMs/emails will drive me into a very dark place).

Deepbit had a 3.3 million share round on 5/31.  I assume that is the current record?  I didn't really check the smaller pools.

I can't say for sure what the actual record is.  I -think- slush or DeepBit had a 3m+ round once at the last difficulty, but my memory could have been rewritten to make this round not feel as bad).  A round over 3m at that difficulty would be similar to a 6m+ one at this difficulty.

I think you have to manually request payment. I could be wrong though.
