Well, it's not so much lightning that worries me, although we do have some major electrical storms during the summer thunderstorm periods. My lights do dim and go out on occasion for a few hours. I do have surge protection, but wouldn't stake my life (or miners) on them.

The main reason is that my coin room is cooled by three window fans. Two are sucking air straight in the windows about 6-8 inches in front of the miner air intakes. The way the rain blows sideways around here sometimes would almost ensure that rain would get sucked into the machines. I have tried moving the miner racks about 18" back from the window fans during a rain storm, but the rain and random drips of water, are still being slung toward the miner intakes.
I wish I had some kind of over-hang over the windows, but I don't.

The third fan in the other window across the room is just a fan exhausting the hot room air. It is not so much of a concern as it's on the "dryer" side of the house and sheltered by trees.

In short, it's just me being safer than getting water in the miners and being sorry. It's just a risk I am unwilling to take. I usually rent a small-ish rental to cover periods of extended rain and just let my electric meter rest.
  
EDIT: I have investigated (and still looking) water proof or resistant screening. Something with smaller mesh even. But that would still not stop the water coming AFAIK. Any othe water-proofing solutions and ideas are gladly welcomed!!

Have you tried putting your miners in front of the exhaust fan?  The exhaust side is the critical piece of the equation.  As a test, you could just turn your miners around and reverse the window airflow.  It's possible that the shady window will provide cooler air temps as well.  

I'm sure the current supply air is hotter than room temperature on most summer days so there's no advantage in having the miners so close to the supply fan.    

EDIT:  One of the best setups I've ever read about was a guy that captured ALL his exhaust air with flexible duct from each miner into a box plenum that went up into his attic.  That stopped all possibility of the exhaust air mixing in with the supply air.  This setup controlled the temps better than any other setup he tried.  The garage air never got heated by any exhaust air.  If I can find the link I will post it here.

Understood, makes sense now. My operation is in the basement, there would have to be some kind of pipe bursting catastrophic failure to get those miners wet Hopefully the weather will pass quickly and let you get up and running again.

I have toyed with the idea of moving the coin room around. It's a very small room with a bed taking up most of the room and shelves with books and albums taking up most of the wall space. The two windows I'm using for air intake are the most convenient for that purpose.

They will allow the placement of racks and, most importantly, that's where the majority of my power is located. A new 110/120/20 Amp outlet and a 240 outlet in addition to 2 other 110/120 outlets.

I would not be able to get the two miner racks in front of the back window. It is in a corner and pretty hard to access. The best thing I could think to use it for was exhaust.

The single window still gets rained in, just not as much as the two front-facing side-by-side windows.

Are you saying to surround the output fans (blowing out the two single windows) with the insulation around the top, bottom, sides of fans?

Plenty of things to think about. I would probably look for something smaller/cheaper as I don't need that much insulation.

Maybe it's time for rearranging!

Just to give an idea of what the double-window side of the room looks like with the miner in racks and on table with the two fans sucking in air from the window and a fan on the back of the rack sucking hot air away from the miners.

Ya gotta pay attention to circuit capacities. My service here is 120v. I have only 30 amps of available service total. One S7 uses 14 amps. A typical household circuit (in 120v territory) is 20 amps. I currently run 6 S3s at home, but they only draw around 3.5 amps each, so I'm drawing around 19 amps for all of them; they're on two separate household circuits. I can't run the microwave without first shutting down two S3s. I ended up sending my 3 S7s to CryptoBoreas for hosting...that works for now.

I'm gonna take the time to photo my rack setup a bit later and post it. It appears to be a bit simpler...and cheaper. I've got (yet another) housing inspection tomorrow by a nonprofit co-op that the owners have retained to figure out how to finance upgrading the wiring in our complex so we can get 100 amp service in our units. Turns out that my blowing the main breaker for my unit several times around the first of the year got some positive attention. Additionally, another tenant bought a portable a/c unit, plugged it in, got it going, and then fired up their coffeemaker...and blew the 30-amp main breaker on their unit. I've been telling mgt for months that would happen.

Figure out which circuit breakers handle which plugs, and what your total draw is/should be for each circuit, when everything is turned on. Stay under 90% of that, and you should be OK for draw. If you run too close to the limit with only the miners running, then something like a frig compressor cutting in, or a microwave, or a vacuum, or even a hair dryer, could easily blow either a circuit breaker, or the main.

Yes, I popped a breaker the other day by plugging in a vacuum cleaner in the hallway. I'm at my electrical limit in the coin room and adjacent outlets on the same circuit.

it is light weight easy to work with and is water proof

you could reverse the air flow on the fans blow air out those windows and you would basically have a hood from the material.

Really, that much? I haven't been paying that close attention to Philip's post in speculation recently. But thought it was much less of a an increase. Ouch!
