I am curious if anyone knows what the minimum temperature should be during the winter to keep S9 miners working well? Is 40F too low? I ran two last winter at 50F and they seemed to run ok...

That'll be fine, I've run mine around that temp and a bit cooler in the winter no problem.

40F should be fine for the miner, but the power supplies might give you some problems if you have a power outage and they cool off. About a third of my APW3++ power supplies won't start if they are below about 50F. On the other end, about 10% start up fine at -10F. Rest are in-between. Fortunately I can use those few to generate enough heat to warm up the rest.

I had not thought about the power supplies! I guess there is always a hair dryer to kick start them if there are troubles! Thanks much!

I'm sure not the only one here hosting at cryptoboreas, probably another thread on this topic but they shut down and landlord holding all miners. Thats where almost all of mine are and thus unable to mine here till this is resolved. By the time that happens, all my miners will be worthless. I know there are a few people with 5+ PH in miners also hosting there, what are we to do? Anyone have any more info or link to thread?

Unless there's an outage, it'll never run. That is basically what I do in the winter: I have a thermostatically controlled gable fan that kicks on if the cold aisle is below 50F. It sucks air out of one of my hot aisles and recirculates it. Given the 10% that come on during our coldest outages, its enough to get things bootstraped. Still a lot of manual intervention though. Those PSUs that don't start need to be power cycled to kick in.

That is terrible! Was there any sort of contract signed (or maybe an online description that may still be there - or you may have saved)? I would also be looking for any documentation that proves you own which serial numbers. Obviously the landlord wants to get their past due rent however they can, so yes, it will be a very difficult process. How many miners do you have in "limbo" there? I took a peek at their site which is still up, and they have not even posted that there are issues. Makes a person wonder...

There were multiple failovers on all the non-US nodes during the half hour between 11:07 UTC and 11:37 UTC It seems there was some EU<->US connectivity problem going on during that time.
Everyone on the US nodes were unaffected by the network problems (as long as your miners are in the US)
There were failovers on UK, DE, JP and SG.
People connected to the SG node were affected the most, with failovers a number of times during the half hour.
All been OK again since 11:37 UTC

Apparently some of the smaller miners were going to be transferred to GND in Labrador City last week (I've actually spent a few days at that GND datacentre that is quite literally out in the middle of nowhere) I've no idea what actually happened with the transfer though, but it would appear it hasn't happened yet. The outage started around Aug-14 17:30 UTC

Half of my miners are still sending shares in, so some got moved I guess... I don't have much, tho, and I'm sure this is a much bigger issue for you big dogs with lotsa miners.

HEY! FINALLY, a milestone. as many know I've got a pile of S3s for cheep. Got three in my crib but here in Phx when the heat comes up I gotta turn em off to run my Large AC. I have an off premise shop that I tinker my motorcycles in and waste time. Found out there's access to a wifi hotspot there. Been foolin for a month trying to get routers working out of a Ntbook. The netbook wifi ain't strong enough to pick it up but I came across an external TP-link directional antenna. OK, nowhere on the netbook to screw it on so it's a USB wifi antenna. appx $20 (also a tp-link) and my laptop connects. Unfortunately the laptop don't see the S3 on the other end of the ethernet port. Tried bridging it to the wifi dongle and all that crap but as soon as I hooked the miners to it it would drop the wifi signal. Welp after three weeks of dicking with routers turns out all I hadda do was "enable wifi sharing" through my USB dongle wifi antenna and I had one up and running. Then goto a simple netgear switch. It's a 24 port switch I got for $4.00 on Goodwill Geezer Discount Day....(tuesday). The point is there are five of them up and running between here and there so I SHOULD be above "Dust" level. Last I checked it said 2.24 Ths. I gotta work on remote access to try and do something about a high invalid rate. I may then consider moving a couple more down there.
It's been a fight, no doubt easier if I knew all this already but I enjoy learning and I AM learning as I go along. Gotta let em all ramped up, then on the next block after this I should actually see something in my wallet!
self taught is the best way

Definitely a possibility, although not a probability. Even free S3s burn more power than you can earn running them unless your power is incredibly cheap as well (I haven't run the number, but guessing something like 2 cents /kw would do it.) S3s are good for working out the kinks like your doing. But as soon as those are stabilized, you really need to move up S9s or 841s to make anything at all. Or wait for the A9s due in a few months.

Some of those invalids are probably due to using wifi. Nothing beats a hardwired connection. Something is better than nothing though.
When I first set up I ran 50ish feet of ethernet to my garage.
