I enjoy being part of this pool. Just added 3 more TH  Cool  Username: "slimsbtc"
Actually had a heart to heart chat with my miners last night.
I let them know that I needed to see another block soon...... yeah, I'm a little cheesy like that sometimes.
Anyways, glad we scored another one today.

Just finished writing BIP 100.2 and working to get it out there for some feedback:

BIP 100.2 - To Fee or Not to Fee: A Fresh Look at Bitcoin's Block Size

It was Posted this in the main discussion board. Please check it out. I'm hoping some pool will take it
seriously and code it in as an option to their users. Kano, you up to it?

My simple answer is, I'm against BIP101 and all for BIP100 (as the blocks we produce say)

The pool itself (as it says in the first post) uses a size limit of 888,888 bytes Smiley
Here and CKPool solo have for a while not had issues about block sizes and spam due to our custom changes to bitcoind without using any blacklisting or targeting of any kind not already present in the bitcoind code.
bitcoind itself seems to be slowly catching up on that

I'm not open to pushing the block size down to force higher fees - especially while the reward is relatively high
(here the reward is around about 25x the fees lately - it's a statistic on the blocks page)

My issue with BIP101 is that it effectively produces a low fee environment - at the time when fees are (finally) coming more into play.
Bitcoin requires miners to confirm transactions, without that there is no bitcoin.
Miners having some control in the block size limit is quite logical and appropriate IMO

What I'm interested in the BIP100 discussion at the moment is where's BIP100? Smiley

Edit: and to put that into context: your post seems to be about pools, not miners.
Miners can choose their pool to mine at or solo mine and decide completely all transaction control for their mining.
The pool having to deal with each user mining their own random choice of transactions is not, IMO, ideal at all and also causes the problems that the now rarely if ever used GBT mining protocol has of sending way too much data (causing more stale and orphan blocks)
It also means that when a block is found by the pool, it represents the choices of a single miner that may be quite at odds with other miners.
I certainly don't ever want to see this pool mining empty blocks, and anyone who disagrees with that, I've no issue suggesting they mine somewhere else.

Yeah that was an interesting block ...
The relay wasn't working so there was an added issue of slower block propagation - that wasn't an issue it was confirmed ok.

Then just after the confirm, I had a short blackout at home due to thunder/lightning just to add a little excitement to it.
Of course that had no effect on the pool, but did have an effect only for me Smiley

Will do a ckpool restart in the next 5 minutes.
As usual for a ckpool restart there should be minimal failover - only miners that can't reconnect within the 30 seconds of the restart will failover
For most is should just show as a reconnect message in cgminer

A few minor ckpool updates since the last time (15 days) - including the worker stats change -ck did for solo.
Also a change in the backend bitcoin startup configuration which I hope will (yet again) be another gain in block change performance.

Edit: all done.

I had a short blackout at home due to thunder/lightning just to add a little excitement to it.

 Undecided

I saw the block, then my computer blip out and reboot....

Some times in the past that happend during work, so I desided to check the PSU.

This 500W China thing is 3 years old and no supprise one of the cap's was brocken.
A quick repair and a routine "dust" maintanace was carried out and I hope it runs now for a while.

Usaly that happen's on Saturday/Sunday or Bank Hollydays but: it is friday the 13 (I forgot to point that out as well).

The changes last night and some more bitcoind code changes from -ck seem to have reduced the block change times a little more again Smiley

Connections went down all over the net 20 minutes ago and started to recover but then dropped again.
I restarted ckpool 10 minutes ago and all has been OK since.

Edit: there was a 2nd lot of disconnects/dropouts about 20 minutes later, but all has been OK since.
Cause was the data centre but no details about exactly why yet - but it's been OK ever since.
Switched all bitcoinds over to v4 blocks (0.11.2) last night.
v4 block Smiley
