There are many reasons for that, including it being run honestly, supports the Bitcoin ecosystem, great guys that work hard behind the scenes to support us little guys, etc etc etc..

I run the pool, I think I do know the correct answer Anyway: ... The first month, January, starts on the 18th at UTC 00:00 ...
... and the blocks all say their UTC time.

There will be a CKDB restart in ~9hrs 20mins at UTC 22:00 (18-Jan) CKDB restarts don't really need much warning since they don't affect your miners at all, but in this case I need to do it soon and the next best option is in the morning my time (UTC 22:00) As is now usual with a CKDB restart, I do it at the end of a shift, but at the point when CKDB summarises the shift (about 12 minutes later) So the first shift to end and be summarised after UTC 22:00 will be the point when I do the restart. I'll post again, a bit before, just to remind people and have a better estimate of when 'that' shift will end. No miners will be hurt in the making of this restart, the SPCM will be present
