This just showed up on my Core...can anyone shed a light on just what it means? I've never seen it before.

EDIT: Didn't take long to find it's probably encountering a Segwit block? Consensus says no worries? Tru dat? It's a full node, BTW.

I have it on my mac 0.14.2  core

are you running linux, mac or windows version of 0.14.2 core
0.14.2 on Ubuntu 16.04LTS. I guess it's a "normal" msg...but sure could be worded better.

Block Smiley by jimmy Smiley

That was a short network block - only 46 seconds - seems the transaction overload is clearly disappearing ... before segwit activates ... sounds suspicious if you ask me Cheesy
Anyway it was an 'almost' full block 984608 bytes, but not many high paying transactions.

Edit: oh cool, also the 476266 payout got into the block in time also Smiley

I have been mining here for about 2 years and am a frequent stalker of this board.  I am sure Kano and clgrissom3 have had a response to the upcoming activation of SegWit.  I just haven't seen it.  If someone could link it I would appreciate.

I know this isn't the correct thread for this, but most people here seem WAY more level headed and thoughtful then rest of the community about this issue.

I have been reading about some of the vulnerabilities of SegWit and how it opens up Bitcoin to security problems (https://calvinayre.com/2017/06/19/bitcoin/risks-segregated-witness-opening-door-mining-cartels-undermine-bitcoin-network/ and how it seems to me that we as miners will be losing transaction fees as most transaction will be done on side chains, then crammed into our at most 2MB block.

So why in the hell are we activating SegWit?

And a follow up question then, if we are activating SegWit, when one of these security vulnerabilities is taken advantage of won't it completely destroy the reputation of Bitcoin?

If I am misinformed please link me to the correct info.  Educational material is always appreciated.

Thanks!

Is there a way to configure alerts so that when our hashing value drops by x amount we can get an email?

I was on vacation and there was a storm that knocked out the power. The fix was to reboot a router, but I went about 4 hours without Internet access before I noticed it, and by then it was too late, I had to wait until the next morning to get my neighbor to go to my house and reboot the router.

I'll be picking up a battery back up for my router and Internet modem tonight.

From Kano's first post on page 1 of this forum topic:

Quote
There's Apps to get pool info and monitor your miners.

Apple App:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1344360.0

Android App, read in the thread here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=789369.msg11091187#msg11091187

For miner monitoring:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1331875.0

Send any donation/whatever to them for using them - since they wrote them.

Hi kano. 1 August with BIP 148, do we have anything to worry about? Us miners in kano? I'm a bit stressed. I've read alot of OPINIONS, and I would rather want to know what you have to say.  Regards!
Ignore BIP148 - it's simply an attempt by a bunch of users to take control of Bitcoin away from miners - mining is the design of Bitcoin and it will stay that way.

Miners are paid by the network to secure it. You don't control it. You're just employees of the network. And if you don't do your job, we fire you. It's as simple as that.

Yeah  you can do that.  You can bend and twist the rules of btc as much as you want.

It's not sig spamming wtf. There is no Ledger Signature campaign as far as i know. I did put it as a sig because i have nothing else to put. Someone share your post on a slack group (CryptoFR) and i disagree with it so i did reply.

Deleting my reply for shitty reason because you don't agree doesn't change the fact that i'm right. Miners are paid by the network to secure it. You're not here to rule anything.

Oh and i've remove the signature so you will not have any legit excuse to delete this post this time.

Like I said you are right BTC Developers   can fire the miners  BTC   developers can lower  the tx fees for the miners.

They can do whatever they want to squeeze out more profits.

I think of them  as Chris Christy  governor of NJ  shutting down the George Washington Bridge  for four days  a few years back.   He got away with it.

Should be fun to see the results of the change.

Hmm I see a remarkable study about Kano pool here. The hash rate is pretty high and hope to see you get the success. Nice work.
