Hi ! Is this coin beign trade on anywhere or may i ask, whats the point of resurrecting an old coin? Huh Huh

Thank you !
Gapcoin is listed on Freiexchange - https://freiexchange.com/market/GAP/BTC.

Gapcoin hasn't been resurrected, the community have been collectively contributing prime gap records continuously since the coin's launch in Oct 2014.

Gapcoin's proof-of-work is effected by searching for large prime gaps and the rationale for this is detailed on the gapcoin.org web site. I provide a summary for convenience:
Quote
prime number based p2p cryptocurrency, which tries to eliminate the sticking points of other scientific currencies like Primecoin or Riecoin.
[...]
The big improvement in comparison to Bitcoin is that instead of burning electricity for its own sake, Gapcoin's Proof of Work function actually does useful work by searching for large prime gaps.
[...]
Prime numbers are interesting for lots of mathematicians around the globe, and they're also important to every day cryptography (see RSA). Researches about prime gaps could not only lead to new breakthroughs in the bounded gap, it may also help proving the Twin Prime Conjecture and maybe even the millennium problem, the Riemann hypothesis. Who knows?"
If you're interested in further details, I recommend that you visit the gapcoin.org web site. (Note, some of the links no longer resolve, following the death of the developer in 2017, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=822498.msg48934549#msg48934549).

Gapcoin currently holds the record for the largest prime gap with merit exceeding 40 (see also https://primegap-list-project.github.io/)

Cheers

AMD HD7950 rocking here on the pool..CPU miner does still work.

Currently untested. If someone would like to confirm that cpu mining on windows is still working in the pool with gapminer-rev4 that would be great!

It's fine on Windows 7 32&64 bits.
It's fine on Windows 10 32&64 bits.
Smiley

Champion !

...

Anyone digging out older AMD graphics hardware for testing the GPU miner releases ?

Remember that the sieve still runs on the CPU, so 4 cores min. approx. + 8GB RAM min. recommended.

I really don't have time to play your games.

I understand you have not polished your knob with me yet, but there is no need for foreplay.  Maybe we can meet at Trumps golf course later in the bathroom?

If you don't want to update the code for everyone, I linked the Github repository with the fix?Huh?  Your fix is to make everyone to do it manually, because you have a problem with me?

Who would I address to change code on your own 9.4 Gapcoin wallet?HuhHuh??  Will you put a block onto the 9.4 code like you did the last wallet if you don't like someone?

If you and BitcoinFX want to promote this coin I suggest you go FULL Satashi and NOT use Berkeley Database 4.8.

I know both of you don't know why, because it is a HARDWARE issue.

FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF.

Deepin 20 lists very detailed hardware information also.

Intel chips still use 39 bits physical hardware with 48 bit emulation.

I guess you software fools have it all dialed down to control all the hardware, to slow play everything and everyone.

It really will be 200 years at this rate before even 48 bit physical chips and 64 bit emulation computers.

I understand it is hardware so sorry for actually sharing without making you do it all yourself.  As you knew it all already anyway.  But it is for the public?

I really don't have time to play your games.

...snip...

No one here is playing any games.

We are simply trying to maintain what is perhaps the very best scientific / math coin to grace both bitcointalk and the altcoin space in general.

You asked some questions here:

I responded with some constructive suggestions here:

As to did Graham here:
and here:

Then you proceeded to waffle on at everyone here:

Constructive criticism and participation in project development is always welcome ... thank you!

I really don't have time to play your games.
And I don't have time to heed your rantings. I made myself crystal clear in https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=822498.msg54439927#msg54439927

The basic truth is that I'm pushing 70 and the relative inactivity of long hours spent at the keyboard is becoming increasingly prejudicial to my overall heath, so for my own sake I'm obliged to reduce my level of engagement. This entails aggressively managing others' expectations and not allowing my schedule to be held hostage to random public misperceptions.
Now you know the meaning of "aggressively managing others' expectations".

Quote
Who would I address to change code on your own 9.4 Gapcoin wallet?
If you had actually read the post you would know that I was quite explicit on that subject.

Gapcoin now has a community-led Github repository of its own: https://github.com/gapcoin-project which is now host to all the associated Gapcoin repos (i.e. Gapcoin, Gapminer and the submodules Gapcoin-PoWCore, Evolution and C-Utils). I strongly recommend that you sign up for a (free) Github account, at least so you can be automatically informed by email of changes to the Gapcoin project resources even if you don't wish to contribute to the project directly (e.g. by helping to maintain the project web site, see below).

Quote
FIGURE IT OUT YOURSELF.
You are profoundly mistaken on this. The way open source works is that you figure it out and then contribute the solution for others' benefit.

To save time on both our parts, I shan't be making any more responses to your posts.

I am toying around with adding the GPU miner into the Minerstat OS. I have it halfway done and I will test some in the next few days. Maybe it will help with some of the issues in the past of trying to mine with more than one GPU.

Okay, I have the gpu miner running somewhat in the Minerstat OS! Note: suprnova pool only at this time!
I have only tried so far with one gpu, since the miner itself is known to have issues trying to use more than one.
I have not made an API file so there is no reporting to the minerstat web UI - but you can see stats locally on your mining rig. I'll try to figure out the API file as time allows.

You have to follow the minerstat custom miner guide:

https://minerstat.com/help/how-to-add-a-custom-mining-client

I have hosted the mining package AND JSON file needed - using the JSON file method to add the custom mining client is much easier than typing everything in manually.

https://github.com/udaredme/test4

You MUST change the text in the JSON file under 'args' and in the start-gapminer.sh file to YOUR username.worker for the suprnova pool or you will be mining for me.

You can also change the configuration in minerstat once the miner is installed - it seems to overwrite the initial workers/gpu selection. Not having much luck trying to get more than 1 gpu mining at a time.

Not the most user friendly method but it is functional.

Hope this helps!

HUGE thanks to the Minerstat discord group - they helped me figure out my rookie mistake with getting this set up!

To add Tabs to the Top and bottom you Right click the mouse button and Add New Panel which will add a new panel to the top.

But you can set the computer sensor monitors at the bottom if you want.  Than right click OVER the new tab area, and add the monitors!

Highly recommended for mining.

Mate Desktop is the only 1 that is usable for mining Gapcoin with to have full control and monitor the hardware.

Parrot OS would work also, if the compile issues are ever fixed.

But Trisquel OS is the Default Free operating system.

It is easier to develop along the Trisquel path rather than rely upon Mr. Higgins to do all the work which he seems to be too busy to do except Port the other versions of Bitcoin into Gapcoin.  If he decides to NOT maintain it than the Coding needing to keep up with Modern Linux is too much.

But if we can work together and use Trisquel OS we can all surely succeed with the maximum effect with the best amount of effort!

Plus for this Project to be viable it will require updating the Private Keys and Hash Function into Sha512 due to Quantum Computing.

I have already lost/burned lots of coins due to certain issues.  So don't think of this as more than a play token.  But the learning is exceptional that not really any AI assisted learning can provide.

Ubuntu still does not use HTTPS to update it's operating system.  Neither does Linux Mint, it uses same repository as ubuntu HTTP.

Debian is also HTTP.

Parrot OS use HTTPS but only update possible through clearnet or VPN.

Trisquel OS use HTTPS to update the Operating system Tor, Clearnet, VPN update possible.

Deepin OS is a good operating system for GJHiggins 9.4 Gapcoin version if you want to try it.  Much more difficult to use however, but it is HTTPS update.

MX Linux I have not tried with the 9.4 Gapcoin.  But I know they use HTTPS.

AVOID Ubuntu, and Debian and pretty much anything else in between.

What about Qubes OS I have yet to give this a shot to see how it runs in that environment but I suppose if you have a juicy enough spec you could run more than one client in the VM's it creates.

I really don't get what your fascination is with Trisquel…I have tried it several times now, and find it to be truly awful.
If you want large scale adoption of this coin, the wallet and all its features must work on Win 10, Ubuntu and Mint....you will never attract volumes of newbies with any other distros
The other thing, is, if all we are doing is calculating "gaps" or primes, I have no idea why "tor" is even a thing, Surely the mining should only be reliant on cpu/gpu power, not ssd speed, internet bandwith or protocol....
Makes me suspicious that the wallet is doing much more then simply calculating primes...

We have a new and unique logo:

Starting with digit "3" at the top, it proportionally shows the size of the gap (black) between two consecutive prime numbers.

It shows gaps 2,2,4,2,4,2,4,6,2,6,4,2,4,6,6,2,6,4,2,2.
That last gap ending back at the top is wrong. It should be a 6-gap (from 73 to 79), not a 2-gap.
In fact it's obvious that you can only get consecutive 2-gaps at the start.
You can argue that it was a 6-gap that got truncated by reaching the top, but that would be rather obscure and misleading. It would be better to remove it to indicate the discontinuity.
Or you can argue that it was wrong on purpose just to make it look symmetric at the top. Which is not how we do mathematics.

So the 'old' Gapcoin logo presents said graphical anomaly as per the above ...

"The first 60 prime gaps are:

    1, 2, 2, 4, 2, 4, 2, 4, 6, 2, 6, 4, 2, 4, 6, 6, 2, 6, 4, 2, 6, 4, 6, 8, 4, 2, 4, 2, 4, 14, 4, 6, 2, 10, 2, 6, 6, 4, 6, 6, 2, 10, 2, 4, 2, 12, 12, 4, 2, 4, 6, 2, 10, 6, 6, 6, 2, 6, 4, 2, ... (sequence A001223 in the OEIS)."

...

~ Mind the Gap and well spotted ...

Can you refute Gapcoin's on-chain Prime Gap records ?

Dr. Thomas R. Nicely (1943-2019)

University of Lynchburg Department of Mathematics, otherwise endorsed Gapcoin's mathematical results.

...

The Gapcoin project continues with its newer logo ...  Wink

I to have no idea why UsernameNumber7 continually seemingly promotes Trisquel OS over other OS's.

Use whatever OS works for you and/or for running / mining Gapcoin etc.,

Tor (The Onion Router) addnode connectivity is provided (optionally) for secure P2P networking, circumvention, increased user privacy etc., and not for illegality.

## gapcoin.conf example for Gapcoin on Tor - gapcoin.club ...

## gapcoin.conf example for clearnet - gapcoin.network ...

The Gapcoin wallet itself is not doing anything bad whatsoever. Again, Tor connectivity is entirely optional, as in the Bitcoin protocol. See;
