With hundreds of coins it's confusing and risky to invest your hard earned money in any single coin. I have invested in three alt coins till date and totally lost my investment in two of the coins, the third turned out to be a decent genuine coin. I know crypto investment is more gambling than investing but I am hooked.

I have decided to invest( gamble) once more but this time I want to do so wisely.  I want to have a set of criteria for investing in a coin , a set of minimum qualification a coin must pass before I consider it.  It is for this purpose that I want to seek advice from you folks, please share your methods of picking altcoins and why do you think it works?

As for me, if I were to pick a coin right now, I will look for top ten coins in market cap as they tend to have bigger budgets for further developments. I will look at the dedication of the developers and the core team of the coin to determine their dedication to the project and last try the coin to see if it's any better than the older coins. on picking ICOs I still have no idea, and would appreciate any advice.

I request everyone not to mention any coin by name as this leads to unproductive arguments, just share your strategy and reasons for picking one coin from the rest.

The first thing to understand is that cryptocurrency value is derived from network effect. And network effect is derived from people.

Study volume levels, community engagement, and underlying currency philosophy. Then, once you decide to invest, you must contribute to the coin's success by working for the greater good of the currency. This last step is where most people fail miserably.

And remember, it's going to be a decade or more before cryptocurrency enters the mainstream consumer's vernacular. So be patient and smart, focused, and hard working.

Best coins to stake?

Mining and the POW stance is too much energy consuming and basically unprofitable if you do't have free energy so now I'm trying to figure out what PoS coins to invest in!

In your opinion What are the best PoS coins to stake?

One of my pow coins as of now CBX and i think its the best pow coin that you can set the settings from normal staking to hard staking. it give to me good profit with 450 + cbx in my vault.. it can make 2 to 8 cbx in a day..

PIGGY is cool. Stakes in hours - approx 3% pa. Fairly good volume for a POS and steady rising cap. Fair initial distro of the original scrypt POW coin which it replaced.

Dash, you can have 1000 of those and running a master node, which kind of paying you some interest.

Agree. making DASH node(it cost ~9000$ now) is the best choice for passive income, and the development team and community has repeatedly demonstrated this. also i recommend you to stay away from cryptocurrencies with an unlimited supply of coins.

It would take over 9 years to double your 1000 DASH with masternodes not including hosting costs. That's an awfully bad investment.
Why would anyone lock $8-9k for such a small profit especially considrering how volatile the price of DASH is.

Nah, this is all inside fuckery of the Startcoin Team. This was a coordinated dump on bittrex and bleutrade and they spreading rumors that their hompage got hacked. They also dumped on every poloniex rumor.

I think we need to make it very very easy to mine - i'm thinking
one-click mining, or have the wallet set to mine on one thread
automatically as a default.  You can have the wallet connect to
a pool (if solo-mining is not an option).  I'm not sure how to get
auto-payments to the wallet, maybe the wallet could create an
address just for receiving mining payments.

If that won't work, how about an "anonymous" pool, which requires
only a magi address, and some simplified mining software to go
with it.  Getting past antivirus without triggering it is also an issue.
We should make it so anyone, even without technical skills, can mine.

Thanks for the suggestions, Coins-R-Us; I got the point, easy mining. I thought about a plan of wallet improvement and integrating mining into the wallet; by simple clicking enables both PoW and PoS. One of the options and what I wanted to do all along is the P2Pool, which will enable mining to address. Kindly some one would offer such a pool, or I'd do any ways. I also like to see any other opinions coming up.

I'd avoid talking much before delivery, and to avoid frustrating community, the same reason for "No ETA"; but a simple route for the current release, a speeding wallet seems running well; I got sync done in the past few days, everything seems running okay, wallet comes up in a minute or so. I'll get another improvement done plus few minor fixes, then release candidates.

Yea bud, you have some good points. I'd take the route of revising the monetary system to make magi healthy; however, I'd resist to make changes for the sake of coin value, very much a scene of pure PoS coins and the like, which, I believe not helping coin value in the long run but a possibility of leading to centralization, let alone fail to catch the interests of miners. In general, the majority of the coins should be distributed through a de-centralized way in a significant long period, over which sufficient miners join the party and get a share. One of the conclusions that the total coins generated, e.g., through PoW, should be much greater than PoS, can thus be drawn; same for why mining should stay low. For this reason, I would not think 2% PoW over 3% PoS is a good combination. Though I tend to stick to PoW, a "smart" bridge of PoW and PoS can be a go, for example, when mining goes misbehaving. I do have to re-evaluate the number of coins being distributed, but most likely I suggest to make no changes for consistency throughout.

So I talked about a coin, but not that closely relevant to what business may care about (appears); however, imho the basics will change the way it goes, significantly.

 fwiw i agree a long PoW is a good thing, especially where phones and laptops (refrigerators? light bulbs?) may soon be seen as mobile/family mining rigs, KUTGW dev, lets get this stuf into the hands of the people   

there is alot of the spirit of future POS there; long POW phase, look to the future of $20 mini computers staking, i've already bought an under $50 smart phone, just a matter of time before someone codes the client to run & stake on andriod ... then compare that to the POW asic warehouses that have to be geo located in super cheap energy regions ... aka ... next to the damn dam.

-Coin went up from less 0.00000050 to 0.00001700 XMR ( poloniex XMR market: https://poloniex.com/exchange#xmr_diem ), but price was around 0.00000017 LTC when there was LTC market before if I remember right.
-also constantly have couple BTC vol. on there (there was 24h vol. over 340BTC on February),
- today price is around 3 satoshi with around 100BTC buy support ,
- is listed on poloniex - legit & biggest exchange I would say, since almost ...beginning,  
- just scroll chart on XMR market period of time this year... or even early start point September or July... previous year
- (coin jumped into BTC market this year).

We are making progress with CON.  New graphics have already been completed.  Coding is in the works as we speak.  We will begin working on a new website soon as well. 

I would like to open the discussion of the new reward structure.  What do you think the rewards should be set at? Yearly Percentage, min and max stake times, etc.

Also what features would like to see added to CON in the future?  Not saying every suggestion will be implemented or the ones that are will be in the first release but I would like to get your opinions.

Peter Todd’s Double-Spending Software

Peter Todd did not have to do much work to double-spend Coinbase, as he’s had a python script for double-spending available on GitHub for roughly a year. The longtime Bitcoin Core contributor explained how the script works:

“All it does it send one transaction with a low fee -- so low that it would take hours (if ever) for it to get mined -- and then it waits maybe thirty seconds and then it sends another transaction spending the same bitcoin back to yourself rather than to the recipient with a higher fee . . . There are enough miners out there that would have not accepted the first transaction because it has such a low fee . . . [but] they’ll accept the second transaction.”

i have know developers to take it one step further and modify the sign up process, the signup would keep telling the person that the email was already in use three times and get three email addresses and then the password setup script was modified to be a real pain and say no to the simple password, asking for a capital and number, then after that password, add the special character request and boom, three main passwords and three email addresses, worse case scenario, the person gets frustrated and leaves the site

too much of a pain for me and just sooooooo wrong, but one of our past IT guys did it over and over, the hardest part was actually developing a strong and good blog that made people want to sign up, with traffic at 500 plus per day, that means around 20 new signups each day, he collected them but never did anything, just as a case in point, after two years he had around 18,000 user profiles, he spot checked more than fifty and was in their paypal within three minutes, used that to see their bank accounts and in those accounts in another three minutes with about a 87% sucess rate

remember when you sign up on a new site or app, you are giving that info to whoever made(or even copied) the site and i personally have both spam emails catcher and a full set of spam passwords that i use on new sites, plus my credit cards can all produce a virtual number from their site for use on unknown websites that will disappear after one use or a given amount of money spent, you almost need to be three people, the businessman, the social magnet, and then guy who hands out info to any site that so much as looks interesting, lol
