For NastyPool-PPS first design it was a true PPS system. True PPS systems carry risk. OgNasty really pushed for a mining pool without risk. Together we redesigned the payout method to minimize risks for the pool and also provide fairness for miners. I was so busy working on the implementation that I did not realize until recent that the name now is misleading. The new designed NastyPool-PPS payout method is not using PPS.
The payout method is using proportional hashing (Prop) on top of P2Pool (PPLNS) payouts. Therefore a proper classification of the new payout method could be Prop-on-PPLNS.
Since we are not offering PPS I think we also should not call it NastyPool-PPS. I ask now the fans if they have ideas for how we should name it. One idea was NastyPool-PoP. In this case PoP stands for Prop-on-PPLNS.
Ideas? Comments?
My thoughts... I always viewed NastyPPS as our own payout method where if you submitted an accepted share to NastyPool you would be paid for it. However, I realize there are sticklers out there. Since an argument could be made that our payout per share doesn't fit into the pre-existing PPS label, it could cause confusion, or contempt to those who make assumptions about what NastyPPS should be. I think this could lead to people feeling that we are acting in a non-transparent way with this naming convention, so I would support changing the payout name to something that more accurately reflects the service.
If I was proposing options, I would do so with the following:
NastyPPS - great recognition but potentially misleading
NastyPoP - somewhere between the above and below options
NastyPool-PoP - Prop-on-PPLNS via NastyPool which is most accurate
While I like the shorter and more recognizable NastyPPS, NastyPool-PoP does seem the most transparent description and I support using that name instead of NastyPPS.
Please chime in with any feelings on the subject. I would love to correct all my NastyPPS posts to the appropriate terminology.
