So in terms of the USB Asic, what is the theoretical GH/s of the USB Asic?
And the power draw?
And price guess?

Also, just to report - the rigged prototype has been running at 200MHz (11GH/s) off 630mV and about 700mA (approximately 0.32W/GH) for 68 hours with 12 HW errors reported. I'm okay with that.

It's excellent but it's impossible to make a ROI with a USB miner unless you sell them for $5. Do you have plans to make something larger? |

Also, no it's not impossible to make ROI. It's impossible to make positive ROI. But it's not impossible to learn more than the asking price worth of basic concepts when you have a tool that is simultaneously powerful, flexible and inexpensive. Beginners are people too. As for what you were trying to ask with your question, see above. Then see the very first post in this thread and then see almost literally every other post in this thread if that doesn't give you a comprehensible answer.

We're bidding the PCB etch, and I need to get back to heatsink people, so I should have a final BOM and price estimate (assuming my current design works properly) fairly soon. We're finalizing lists for who we'd like to send prototypes for to be evaluated, and I'll probably be sending out some messages tonight to verify with folks. There might be delays on the Compac protoPCBs but they should ought arrive with plenty of time to test things and still be reasonable.

Well, don't expect a batch to be shipping before June. It's minimum 3 weeks from now before we even start talking seriously about taking in preorder money. That gives time for proto PCBs to arrive, for us to in-house test, to get some to outside testers and them to report. That's assuming the proto PCBs work. If the design is solid and the supply chain is laid out, we'd probably take two weeks to gather money for a batch and then place orders for materials which would be three to four weeks out. After that, assembly and testing and shipping probably aroudn the end of June (at the earliest). There's plenty of time to gather hubs and such.

Looking forward to the big boards!! oh man... remember them numbers when asics were not around? you'd have to have 1 rig with 4/5 radeon HD cards in them pulling them numbers? then it dwindled down to 10mm2 of space needed to pull them numbers, and 1/100 the cost.. now we embrace it, and pay Alex Kidd here with burgers (well ok, it was onigiri, but when i was a kid playing that game, it looked like burgers) to play with them even |

Yeah I um, I never played video games so I have no idea what you're talking about with that reference. But yeah, I was just describing to someone the other day the crazy advances in efficiency that have been made in the last few years with GPU and ASIC. When I went from 5770/5870 to Block Erupter was retarded increase in efficiency. It's fun to think, though, that from my best GPU to a block erupter was about a 70-times increase in efficiency, and from a block erupter to our Compac is still a 25-times increase in efficiency within the same technology.

Rooster Teeth did a "Rage Quit" video on "Alex Kidd in Miracle World" about 2 years ago, Yatzee (zero punctual) did a "Let's drown out" with it a year ago, also HappyConsoleGamer did a review on it about a year ago too, if you want to hunt down them videos on youtube. it was the 1st and last time that i know of, consoles had an inbuilt game with them. i thought all consoles should have this feature, half expected nintendo64 would of had one... but yeah, evolution of the mining hardware, i remember when it was all just speculation, then the eruptor came out for the public (yes yes, there was avalon for thousands and 40 months waiting period, and bfl just bfl'ing everyone before it), expensive even for the price comparison to a video card that did better then it, but it was USB! you could plug it in any USB host! had TP-Links "3g routers" running them! couldn't do that with video cards, it was so much cheaper to run (i still have 2 of them, collecting dust now, but still able to hash away) then s-crypt came out as asic, via a little hack on the encryption code or some odd thing like that, didn't need the MB of ram to run it.. i don't know, once it came out in asic form, i back away from it, and gaw just destroyed the market for it. No I do not want that shit to happen. We can do 1 tester's thread much better. whoever wants to start it works for me. I only suggest that whomever starts the thread self mod it as the testers don't sell the gear. We don't need that controversy that happened with the sp20 as 10 plus got a unit to review. "Unified Gekko usb testing review thread by x number of testers" could be the title. or something like that. |

Yeah, something like that would be good and is pretty much what I was thinking. The SP20 spam party was definitely getting out of hand, when about 30% of the first-page threads were all talking about the same product. I'm figuring on handing out 8 units total for testing, review and criticism, but I by no means want 8 threads all trying to do the same thing. Heck I'd be fine if everyone posted their reviews in here, but it'd probably be better to have a reviews-only thread for the Compac since this one will keep going on past it with Amita and TypeZero talk for the next couple months.

Can't the 8 people you are suggesting just post here if you give em a template should be easy enough? You can just put it in the general Mining area with the link. |
