Staking of bitcoin address is used to let people know that a bitcoin address belongs to you as you are able to sign a message using the address private key.

More precisely, staking the address allows the owner of the bitcoin address (you) to prove in the future that they still control the account. In the future, you can sign a message in order to prove that you still control the account, because no other person will be able to sign a message using the staked address.

In order to prevent a new owner from secretly changing the staked address in your post, the post is quoted by another user.

It is not necessary for you to sign a message when you stake the address, but it ensures that you have not made a mistake.

If you want to change you staked address to a different address, you need to sign a message with the old address that states that you want to switch to the new address. Signing that message proves that the original owner, and not someone else, is changing the staked address.
