1001  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: July 27, 2015, 02:46:50 PM
Hey guys (and girls). I have been trying to use the keyconv utility as stated in first post. However, my machine dont seem to understand. When I run ./keyconv -G it gave me the following error.

Code:
Invalid character '-' in prefix './keyconv'
Code:
Invalid character 'G' in prefix '-G'

How can I fix it?

Edit: Found out that I dont have keyconv.exe installed. Not sure why. Downloaded the latest version and it's working now.

Glad you figured it out.  For the record it's nicer if you can put the entire comand line (including your invocation, not just the error message).  I was looking at your error message thinking, there must be some syntax error in the command he wrote, but since I couldn't see the command you wrote ...

was wondering are the hats you giving away the flex fit ones? or the other junk ones lol

I got one and it was one of the flex-fit one-size-fits-all types.  I thought it was a nice hat though.  Gave it to a friend of mine who goes to casinos a lot more than me---he can properly support swc in that environment more than I can wearing the hat and staring at a computer screen Smiley
1003  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake on: July 27, 2015, 02:35:50 PM

This is accomplished by importing the wallet into the CLAM client directly.

So how do I get the wallet off my phone and do that?

Do I have to file transfer from the phone somehow?

It still might be worth it to see if you have any clams in one of your "non-change" addresses before you go through the hassle.  Depending on your wallet software, you may be able to print a list of all your addresses and what their balances are (akin to listreceivedbyaddress in bitcoind-RPC).  If I were you, I'd assure myself there's at least some clams to be gotten, then I'd go about figuring out how to do the wallet import into the clam client (if it turns out yu have more than one address to claim from).

EDIT: some wallets, espcially mobile ones from a while ago actually use the sending address as the change address (not as common now that HD wallets are here) so you may actually only have the addresses you manually generated.
1004  Other / Meta / Re: How to contact tomatocage on: July 27, 2015, 02:31:58 PM
Count me in the same boat. Really don't know what to do next. It sucks when you know you are not a scammer , and show him every proof of it but he disregards it all making weird impossible theories.

Although quickseller is the only one to give you negative trust rating, you can see that you have also 2 neutral but bad ratings from highly trusted people so maybe quickseller is not so wrong after all?

Tomatocage did not add a trust-abuser because quickseller is not one, he would have negative ratings by now if he really was one

This kind of comment is a little bit like standing around while someone is being shoved into a police car and shouting out "the police aren't abusers, if they were they would have been stopped by now".  It's all well and good that you shout your ideas from the sidelines, but you're not the one under attack (at the moment) and you don't know anything about the facts of the case (apprantely).  In point of fact, QS has trust-spammed me (using sockpuppets to add extra negative ratings), this is on its face trust-abuse (and this kind of behavior has been called such by quickseller himself).  And he has received many negative ratings, but the hegemony of the default trust regime means those aren't seen very often or considereed.

QS is trying to climb a power-ladder.  The issue is that he's as volitile as a bag of dynamite.  If you're looking out for your own interests you're quite right to do nothing but praise him as criticising him is likely to get you in the same trouble with him that I'm in.

Here's another, more important question: if quickseller isn't a trust abuser, why isn't he explaining himself in this thread?  All he has done is pop in and make a joke about offering money to someone who could convince him.  This mockery isn't helpful and it does nothing to resolve the conflict.  If you look at what TC wrote, he is all but admitting that QS is wrong in my case but sems me as some kind of colateral damage which is outweighed by some kind of perceived god that QS can do.  But again, how is it right that QS is allowed to damage and burn his way to the top and the innocents that he hurts are just some kind of collateral damage?

Why won't TC answer my questions?   Why did he pre-emptively block PMs from me?  How is this related to QS's personal threat on me?

Why won't QS right this wrong?  How many people are afraid to speak up after seeing what's happening to me?
1005  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: BitcoinAverage.com - bitcoin price index on: July 27, 2015, 02:23:29 PM
Finally found your thread. I must say that your page is great. I am using your API for getting current price. It looks like that (if you want to know how much is 10$ in BTC):

I also upload it on github, so everyone can use it: https://github.com/amacar/generateBitcoinPriceImage

That's pretty cool.  Two follow up questions:

1) In the github you linked to, I couldn't find any code, only a readme and the font files and a link to a php program.  Are you not releasing that php program as well?
2) Are you using imagemagick to write the image?
1006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake on: July 27, 2015, 07:39:18 AM
Can someone point me to a SIMPLE step by step how to claim clams from my ANDROID Doge wallet (on my phone)?

Edit:
Or was an Android wallet even out when clams were distributed??   Maybe I don't have any clams from that phone wallet?

Thanks in advance...  I can't seem to find an easy way to do this.

I think you can start by verifying that your DOGE address(es) were funded using the Just-Dice chat.  I assume it works for any BTC,LTC,or DOGE address.

1) got to just-dice.com
2) write in the chat "/dig YOURDOGEADDRESS"

That should print a message about whether or not your address was funded.  If it was funded, you can then see about extracting your private key from that app, if it wasn't funded, then you don't have to bother with it.
1007  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Simple entropy questions on: July 27, 2015, 07:32:24 AM
I think I understand your inquiry better now.  I'm not an armory dev (or even a user) so I can't say what command you might be able to use to see what armory is storing when you're typing numbers and letters and whatnot.  However, on the question is in principle about whether you can add entropy by rolling dice and then inputting the numbers, I'm pretty convinced that's just as good (or possibly better) than just slamming your fingers on the keyboard or scrolling your mouse around or whatever your normal armory instructions say to do.

In case it help satisfy your curiosity, I do know a command to print the entropy collected in /dev/random:

Code:
$ cat /dev/urandom

It basically looks like you're terminal emulator's worst nightmare as it tries to figure out how it might print the data that's being passed in.  Whatever encoding your terminal uses, it will try to decode the data and print it, but most of the time whatever data is being dropped in isn't printable, it looked like this in my terminal:

Code:
                                         N-Gy--a6]TuC\Ra=L`><L~"87UD 6.‸jqx@':JDbE5A9 =%D[vZLIL a`)N&Mh$BkH

@Stunna... could u reply my PM or forward my email to your support staff...
"Your request (1199) has been received and is being reviewed by our support staff.

To add additional comments, reply to this email."
I have very patience to wait for a long answer  Undecided Undecided Undecided Undecided

you will have to wait for a long time most probably, a lot of emails are not being answered for even a month its because of their poor support and most probably posting it here wont help

Actually, when I had an issue with my primedice account, it was exactly the two things: emailing and posting here which did help.  I think that once it got bumped on here once or twice, Stunna himself fixed my account issue and made me a refund.  But before I had posted here, I had no answer.
1009  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake on: July 26, 2015, 11:07:46 PM
Is there an advantage to running the beta versions?

Running Mac 1.4.11 now.  Hesitant to update.  Pros - Cons?

Thanks!

/s/

Really the advantages would either be in:

1) some critical fix that's in the new version
2) some new features

If you're not suffering from an issue in the old client that's fixed in the new version and you're not chomping at the bit to try out the new features (described in just the preceding posts) then you're probably not going to be in a rush to upgrade.

The pros are clearly the new features.  The cons are the risk that the less tested betas won't work right on your setup.  I don't think we can tell you how to balance those things for your personal goals, you'll have to figure them out yourself, right?
1010  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ===►Maidak scammed me 400$ BTC,this time is for sure===► on: July 26, 2015, 11:04:32 PM

My point is that people are people and that people make mistakes.

I don't like this kind of excuse either.. look im just a human and i commit mistakes, so i had to fuck up other people too and  so that both of us have a problem to deal with

so, remove that mindset of yours coz scam is scam.. this is not about good or bad, this is about his action of not keeping his part of the deal.

I agree with you, but this kind of quote given above:

... then disappear for months then you are a scammer, no excuses or bullshit.

betrays a different mindset, and that's the one I'm arguing against.
1011  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any way to report a whole thread? on: July 26, 2015, 09:43:54 PM
Well I don't particularly see anything wrong with it. It's a Forum people come here to post their views and they have every right to do so, if this thread is wrong then I am sure there must be many more threads same as this in other sections as well.

Infact some of the topics itself are created over and over again phrased differently. For ex. "What's the best Bitcoin Wallet" "How can I keep my bitcoins safe" "Which wallet is safe" or "What's the best way to earn bitcoins for free" " Where to get free Bitcoins" and there must be many other topics on which threads are created over and over again and they're discussed over and over again.

So should we start reporting and try to get these threads deleted/locked because they were duplicate threads?

Yes, we should? People is getting banned everyday, have you seen the meta section? Almost every day there is someone complaining about their ban because they were posting insubstantial and non-constructive posts so why are these allowed? As i said deleting the thread might not be a good idea but locking it, i think its fair enough, the question was simple, what is the safest dice strategy, the answer has been given, a few times, no point in continuing the conversation at that point, dont you think?

Yes, it was a simple question and agree that mostly the question gets answered with first few replies in almost all the threads but it also happens that sometimes there is a disagreement or someone thinks that the a particular reply was not correct or partially correct and then it gets quoted and the other person posts his/her view and then it sparks a discussion of what is right or wrong, like what is happening right now with this question.

Then there are questions which are simply like a poll and then everybody tries to post their point of view, I don't know if there is anything wrong with it but I am not going to start reporting these because I don't think these threads will get locked and what will happen is I'll get my good reports percentage dropped (which I have managed to get up somewhat), so I don't think it's a good idea.

And it's all about perception, a post may look useless to me but it might not to you or others. I experienced that when I reported some posts made by a user to ndnhc when I was in their campaign and he told me that according to them they were good.

What you said it's true but sometimes things get out of hand, at least in my opinion, take a look at the famous thread of martingale with 70~ pages already, do you really think 70 pages to discuss a strategy that does not work is something needed?

Funny you bring that one up "does martingale really works?".  I haven't seen it bumped since I basically shouted at everyone to stop bumping it---that they weren't adding anything.  I was really surprised it worked but at least in that case, all I said was "cut it out people, this thread is done" and that was it.  Smiley
1012  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: difficulty are difference, need help on: July 26, 2015, 09:24:32 PM
You might get better replies if you say which coin you forked.  POS coins are very different from POW coins and this difference is related to how they are mined.
1013  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Simple entropy questions on: July 26, 2015, 09:22:52 PM
On the thread

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=673035.20

Armory developer etotheipi said this:

Quote from: etotheipi
Armory already collects real world entropy, including mouse movements, clicks, key presses, and hashes of system files, when creating the wallet.  It bundles in that extra entropy with the Crypto++ RNG.  That extra entropy alone should be well in excess of 256 bits.
...
It's collected in the background as you go through the create-wallet process.  Only 32-bytes of entropy is needed, and the whole process collects far more than that, so there's no need to explicitly request the user do stuff.  Though, from a marketing perspective, it's probably better to make the user aware that it's happening.

So is Armory really tracking and storing my mouse moves and keyboard presses while the "Wallet Creation Wizard" window is open? Does this mean I should prefer moving my mouse a lot and typing a lot on the keyboard for a few minutes when this window is open (in either Step 1 or Step 2 in the wizard)? Also, does this have to be done with Armory in the foreground? I'm on Ubuntu 14.04. (I'm guessing the OS won't send Armory those mouse and keyboard events unless it's in the foreground.)

That same thread also explains how to generate a new Armory wallet exclusively using 100 rolls of a 6-sided die. But my question is, how can I use die rolls to add entropy to the existing default Armory wallet generation? As opposed to relying exclusively on the die. The die could be biased after all. Update: Since Armory is tracking keyboard events in that wallet creation wizard window, would this method work?: 1) roll the die. 2) type the number on the die that comes up on my keyboard. 3) repeat 100 times. Once that is done, proceed with creating the wallet. What do you think?

I'm not sure why you're looking to add more entropy, is there some reason you have to suspect that what Armory's providing isn't enough?

With respect to entropy on linux there's also /dev/random that you can consult (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki//dev/random).  If you want to roll dice that's certainly a way to generate true randomness, but it's also the slow way.

I guess I"m curious about your motivations here, if you're just trying to learn about randomness, or if you have some specific goal in mind with respect to Armory?

Here's a summary for developers:
AES encryption in CBC mode with known plain text format is open to manipulation by a malicious man-in-the-middle. If you're a developer sending AES messages around (even over HTTPS), make sure you include a MAC to ensure no manipulation has taken place in transit.

That was a really interesting blog post, thanks for the link.  I don't Multibit HD but I appreciate the insight on the interaction of AES and HTTPS.
1015  Economy / Gambling / Re: Primedice.com | Most Popular & Trusted Bitcoin Game | Huge Community | Free BTC on: July 26, 2015, 09:03:45 PM
10btc is still quite a significant amount

It is obviously not a significant amount if you compare it to the weekly wagered status to the house which is over 15k BTC wagered weekly ( references below ) that is roughly less than 0.1 % of the weekly wagered status

References : http://dicesites.com/

It might not be much in the grand scheme of things but its still a big amount to most but it can never be compared to the full site as users tend to gamble smaller amounts between themselves whereas the 15k wagered will mostly come from big whales just winning and loosing the same coins over and over. Does anyone know how much PD usually takes in on profit of that 15k ie how much people actually lose?

I don't have the answer to your direct question but I do want to agree with you that what constitutes a signficant amount is very much context dependent.  Imagine you want to get on the bus and you are 1$ short of bus fare, suddently 1$ is a significant amount (but perhaps not because perhaps in your context someone can offer you a dollar).  Now imagine that same 1$ in a location where you can buy a 3 course meal at a restaurant for that---suddently it's more significant.

I'd opine that of most everyday bitcoin users/gamblers, 10BTC is a signifcant amount.  You can sell that for more than 3KUSD at the moment, enough money to buy lunch all year at 10$ a lunch.  That's > 300 lunches.  Etc.

However, obviously as you go up the scale (from individual to business) then that money is not so significant.  And large nations have budgets that make Stunna's hugely popular primedice seem like small potatoes.  So I think when it comes to significance, it's all about the context.

I wonder if you would still be so keen to make up and give him a hug if you were on the wrong end of a $5k scam.

I appreciate your reply, but your answer seems brief and it appears that you missed my point entirely.  I don't want to rehash it, but for the record, I am not approving of a 5K$ scam.  Please see the details of my two posts above if you actually want to catch my point.

Huge Sunday lineup that includes the 5k, 20k, and 75k Krillrolls coming up,

That's over 10.5 BTC GTD just in those tournaments... plus there are more tournaments and small freerolls running in between and after.

Thats definitely a good lineup. Perhaps they should spend that money on expediting other clients. Already been 6 months + extra testing time since they launched the new software without the mac or html version . Not the best move on leaving out the other client users for that long .

Or Android/linux and gnu/linux, but I agree.  I think that apparantely they did some analysis and some large majority of their biggest players were using windows.  But I also can say that if sealswithclubs.eu had been a windows only binary download I would have never tried it.

I sorta wish we could have mavens back, even if it was just temporarily.

1019  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: ===►Maidak scammed me 400$ BTC,this time is for sure===► on: July 26, 2015, 08:48:56 PM
I agree there are different shades of scamming or untrustworthyness but the matter of the fact is he currently owes a lot of money which he took under false pretenses and abused his position regardless of excuses or explanations and until he pays it back it's all just talk. Sure, I hope he pays it back but that still wouldn't excuse what he's done and he still did initially take the money without keeping up his end of the deal so he still 'scammed' it from them so regardless of the outcome there's nothing wrong with calling this a scam. At best if he returns the money he's taken out an interest free loan for himself but that was never agreed upon and is still very untrustworthy though I would respect him for making the situation right.

You're absolutely right that there's nothing wrong with calling this a scam.  And I don't disagree at all with that.  It's actually this "he's a scammer, no excuses" remark which irked me.  I think it may have to do with my own personal issues regarding quickseller.  At some point he seems to have gotten into this idea that I am a scammer, and therefore I must be shunned and attacked at all times by all people for all eternity.  I think this kind of binary mindset is just confusing and wrong and I see it a lot on here.  As if the world is divided into angels and demons and the angels are always doing nothing but the most elevated and ethical and morally motivated things and the demons do nothing but try to subvert all that is right and good. To my mind, this kind of mindset clouds people's judgments and makes them unreasonable.

My point is that people are people and that people make mistakes.  Some people make worse mistakes than others, some people try to rectify their past mistakes, others don't.  But this doesn't add up to a black and white world where the only citizens are scammers and scambusters.

Here's an example of a direct cost to this mindset, Maidak said above that he watch his reptuation fall to -3000 overnight and found it very depressing and made it very hard to come back and face things here because he basically felt there was no hope to fixing his broken rep.  Many of these "scambusters" in this scenario seem to me like some kind of vultures looking for dead bodies so that they can drop their negative feedbacks and say snotty thing in a thread like "I knew he would turn-scammer".   The way they talk you'd think they were on star-wars looking at someone going to the dark-side.

Anyway, I basically agree with you and hope that Maidak is able to repay his debts.  And for the record, I'd work for him again.  He paid me on-time when I did a job for him and that's a valuable thing.  I'm sorry to the people he scammed and I hope he makes it right and never does it again.  I'm just quite irked by the broken mentality here generated by the trust-wranglers as they jockey to try to get more power on some popular internet forum.
1020  Other / Meta / Re: How to contact tomatocage on: July 26, 2015, 08:38:54 PM
So, where do we go from here.

I have an issue with tomatocage for adding a known trust-abuser (three separate neg-reps on my account, none of them valid, all alts of the same person) to his trust list.

He says that he's worried about people losing "real money" but it's not clear that quickseller is helping any more than he's hurting.  See his history of adding neg-rep to worhipper for merely refusing to use his services, see his false accusation of ndnhc (and the potential that he's the one who planted the "evidence"---that whole scandal).

At this point, several people have spoken up in this thread saying that QS should drop his attack on me.  Basically everyone who looks into this agrees that what's going on here is some kind of personal vendetta from QS against me.  I've gotte several more messages from people to that effect, supporting me, in my PMs but those people have explicitly asked me not to bring them up in this thread for fear of repercussions from QS.  If you ask me, they have a point, I certainly wish I could make this nonsense attacker leave me alone.

Furthermore, there's the very strange behavior of TC in this situation.  Only 2 days before QS was readded to TCs list, he made a public threat against me.

Quote from: Quickseller
You are lying again. You were falsely accused of nothing. You are a scammer and a troll. As I said in the beginning of this post, it is offensive that you have been allowed to troll for as long as you have. If results are not seen immediately, then further action will be taken to ensue that you are prevented from further trolling and from further spamming.

Your slander is worthless

It seems almost too much to believe, but this threat, along with the fact that QS recently sold a default trust account, along with the fact that TC had me PM blocked before I even said anything to him makes me wonder if TC was the account which was sold and/or if QS has control of this account.

Given the unexpected taciturn behavior from TC regarding this, and the conspiracy of events surrouding it, I think it would be really great if TC could sign a message from his staked bitcoin address to prove that he's still the same guy who was kindly convincing QS to let go of this nonsense a few months ago.  Once he signs this message, I hope he'll address my questions above to him?  Will he stand by QS's slander of me and other innocent people?  Will he reach out to QS in reason to get him to drop his false charges as he did before?  If not, why not?

Beyond that, people, I ask you, what can I do?

I don't want QS to persecute me forever.  I have never done him any wrong other than calling out his bad-attitude and confrontational style.  I have never had any business with him and almost assuredly never will.  He has no trust-spammed me with three alt accounts and makes threats at me.  Surely something can/should be done.

QS, will you drop this fight?  To be completely honest, your reputation will actually improve greatly if you can show people that you're willing to admit when you're wrong and walk away from personal vendettas.  What on earth do you want from me?

QS, TC, mods, please reply.  This situation has gone on long enough, let's fix this problem and move on with our lives please!
