1061  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: Resiko Kehilangan Key Wallet Bitcoin, Apa solusinya? on: July 18, 2023, 09:55:17 AM

1062  Economy / Economics / Re: Can your passion lead to an increase in your net worth? on: July 16, 2023, 12:27:52 PM
The people in these stories followed their passion and created wealth through it. What is your opinion on following one's passion in relation to wealth? Can your passion lead to an increase in your net worth? If yes, what is stopping you from following it?
I mean, don't your stories already answer your question? I don't think most people disagree that we can be rich if we follow our passion, but the success rate is incredibly low due to many factors. Counting passion as your only drive won't be reliable. For example, people need the skill to manage a business or launch a website like you shared above, does everyone have that? Do they have the time to learn while not having the pressure to provide food for their family? At the end of the day, your luck, connection, skills, etc plays a part. If you are not prepared from your early days, trying to follow your passion might become painful especially if you need to endure years without getting any decent earnings.
1063  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Help to rescue on: July 16, 2023, 12:07:26 PM
What kind of options are acceptable for you? If you can take a riskier approach I guess you can DCA to lower your average entry or DCA into Bitcoin or other major altcoins based on the speculation that the next bull run would give you enough return to cover your loss. You can also trade other assets other than crypto assuming you have access to them. Keep in mind those are still risky moves, you need to accept the risk and understand that it might expose you further to another loss of capital. If you don't have the capacity to do that, then I don't think it is a smart choice to do.

At the end of the day nobody is a certified financial advisor and no one knows your exact situation, so just take our posts with a big grain of salt.
1064  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Live Update? on: July 16, 2023, 11:53:25 AM
I doubt any Ledger user here still uses Ledger Live, or even Ledger products. I assume you're well aware of their latest recovery fiasco, so just use Electrum if you still planning on using your hardware wallet or move on to another one. I do recall somebody claiming their Ledger failed to connect with Electrum properly with outdated firmware. While there is a solution I'd second the suggestion to look for other options other than Ledger as of now. CMIIW.

You can also build your own cold wallet setup with Electrum. It takes some time to learn but it is worth compared to risking your funds to some unverifiable firmware update that might expose your seed without concern.
1065  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Question] Bitcoin More decentralized than Ethereum? on: July 16, 2023, 11:41:46 AM
So the only point why Bitcoin is more decentralized than Ethereum is:
The Bitcoin Full Node is cheaper than the Ethereum Full Node ?
What makes you conclude that? Do you have any data on the cost of running a full node for each network? One of the critical issues is understanding what parts you include in the word "decentralized". If you draw a conclusion just from whether you can run a full node or not, then the issue would be ambiguous since almost any coin allows you to do that. How would you differentiate between Bitcoin and other blockchains owned by some governments if the latter also allows you to run your own node then? Are you going to call them decentralized too?

I believe you can see what other factors you should consider from the answers shared above. The consensus mechanism, how it launched, who controls the repository, who can participate, and so on are one of those things. If you don't agree that those factors are important, then I guess no one can convince you that Bitcoin is more decentralized than others.
1066  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Verify if seed is working on: July 16, 2023, 10:59:18 AM
But I am not interested in any seed, I am interested only in the seed created by KeepKey hardware wallet. For that to be verified a transaction should somehow be present both on the Electrum-Keep-Key hot wallet and the cold wallet generated from the Keep-key seed and this is apparently impossible to do.
If by "present" you mean showing up on your other wallet while it is offline and not connected over the internet to update your balance, then I don't think that is true. In most cold-wallet setups you would use the watch-only/hot-wallet to check your balance with the block explorer and so on. As mentioned above, if the address are the same and you use the same seed then it is guaranteed to show up regardless of what wallet you use as long as they use the same derivation path. CMIIW.
1067  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Liquidity and Fees When Trading on: July 15, 2023, 01:31:10 PM
I wonder why OP seems so keen to try a relatively obscure exchange/service instead of using the popular one. OP, you also look for a copy-trading service and its review in the last few days. I guess you want to maximize your profits by reducing the fees you paid, while also making it quite easy to do so. If a risk of security doesn't discourage you from trying them, I believe you should at least calculate just how much fees you are saving and check if that's really worth the trouble.
1068  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mixing Safe (Decentralized Multisig+MPC+Timelock solution) review preperation on: July 15, 2023, 12:07:16 PM
Sounds like a mixer yet it is not, more like a paid wallet service with a high transaction fee or i say service fee. But let's see since the site/service needs reviews.
They said they are not a mixing service on their ann thread. Basically, a wallet app that claims to offer a better way for multi-sig so that their users can recover their funds as long as they have one of their keys. They hold one of them, just like other services in this field. CMIIW.

The name Mixin is not unfamiliar to me. I probably use one of their services in the past (Mixin Messenger) but I can't really vouch for their security, reliability, etc. I only used them for a short time. I'll probably participate if the process does not need personal info or something similar.
1069  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Discussion] Arkham Intelligence on: July 15, 2023, 11:28:16 AM
Isn't that what walletexplorer.com does all the time? you use walletexplorer to search for other people's wallet addresses, but they provide their data to Chainalysis, which uses such services as a honeycomb to collect more data, with some available as results for this service.
I guess the difference is the probability of some stranger abusing or issuing fake data is lower compared to this service. I don't think anyone can easily figure out real people's names just from wallet addresses unless the user posts their details publicly on social media or something else. At the end of the day though this service is going to cause so many troubles and privacy issues regardless of how the company spins its articles.
1070  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Brazil to launch CBDC, Github repo found on: July 15, 2023, 11:13:19 AM
But the regulator also failed to state the circumstances that will lead to the freezing, reduction, and transfer of funds. This is a clear violation of the privacy of citizens because the central bank has total control of the wallets.
From another tweet, it seems like they refer to "current legal legislation" as the basis for such actions. I'm not sure how broad that would be, but I believe we can safely assume reasons that usually led to bank accounts being frozen, etc would be used as one of its criteria. Stuff like money laundering etc is probably gonna be quoted so often in the future.
1071  Economy / Economics / Re: I want to get spot bitcoin ETF news directly from the SEC on: July 15, 2023, 10:53:11 AM
I want to know the exact second that SEC would approve bitcoin spot ETF directly. I do not want it to be what I will read on the crypto new later after people would have bought and the price would have increased.
Is there any reason to believe you'll be able to buy enough if they ever got approved though? I agree with what has been mentioned above, just buy Bitcoin now and DCA if the price moves against your liking. I mean, even if you can buy it asap as the news is released, you'll likely lose to bots or something similar. There is no reason to increase the risk of not getting some sats at the right price just because you want a guaranteed return from ETF news IMO.

By the way, as far as I can see from their official news page shared above, there is no mention of any approved ETF from their side. I guess they won't change it just for Bitcoin ETF and other media will likely be your source for any confirmation of ETF approval. CMIIW.
1072  Economy / Exchanges / Re: You are probably paying more to get your Bitcoin on: July 14, 2023, 12:48:53 PM
Simply said, this means that even though they claimed the data was secure, they can manipulate it. You should never trust anyone with your personal information since anyone may use it to blackmail you in exchange for money.
While this can happen, I believe most people are worried about data leaks more than blackmail from the exchange. That being said, other risks such as disabling accounts and so on do exist, so that's that. I do believe a service like what OP posted also requires some personal data eventually, especially if they use debit cards/fiat to buy their crypto. There's no way they can do it without KYC forever judging from how the market is moving. CMIIW.
1073  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tornado cash and others mixers on: July 14, 2023, 12:32:26 PM
I also agree with you that the later was the case with chipmixer which shows that they somehow deviated from their statement years after. I also do not think that what happened to chipmixer was just one particular incident. It seems that they have done it so many times and they have been in the bad book of the government for many years without their knowledge. When the evidences were so glaring,  FBI had to strike.
They will be investigated sooner or later even if they don't mix any coins from hackers etc imo. A nonregistered service in the eye of the government will be classified as suspicious even if the data about them is so scarce. I guess that's just the risk of running a mixing service.

Mixer with KYC Smiley I think that customers will not use it. There is another practice when the mixer cooperates with AML services and before using the mixer, the AML service allows the use or writes that the coins have traces of a crime. But this did not help the BITZLATO exchange.
True, a lot of people would not use a mixer that explicitly or found to be working with a government/somebody else that collects their data. They'd probably choose a coinjoin or another mixer asap. I've never heard about Bitlato exchange. How did they work as a mixer if they are an exchange, to begin with? A quick search seems to suggest that the founder basically run an unregistered service and facilitate money laundering practice for blacklisted business etc. CMIIW.
1074  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Former Celsius CEO Alex Mashinsky reportedly arrested on: July 14, 2023, 11:49:36 AM
Also in P2P trade, users prefer to use CEX because of the KYC requirements and verifications involved in the process.
Do you mean trading in general? As far as I'm aware, CEX is not really the only option for P2P. If you're referring to Binance P2P and something similar, I guess they do offer some convenience but it is not a deal breaker if a user is looking for a P2P transaction. There are other ways to make sure you don't get scammed such as using a multi-sig wallet as an escrow and so on. CMIIW.

Before ftx, Celsius and Luna Collapsed, was there any reason to arrest sbf, Alex Mashinsky and Do Kwon? That was because their shady activities were hidden and it only became exposed when their platform bit the dust.
I won't be surprised if they charge him with similar issues like inappropriate funds management and so on. The unfortunate news is that they have to 'wait' for the company to go bankrupt before giving any charge. Do they have no data before? It would be cool if any abuse is prevented for the users imo.
1075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Argentina Launches it's First Bitcoin Futures Contract, Brazil To Follow.. on: July 14, 2023, 11:08:07 AM
What I'm trying to say is that, this news isn't for you. Also, worth mentioning that some people will get curious about this and do their own research and then find out that it's not bitcoin per se, they would most likely press on and learn more about bitcoin then and there.
While that might be true, I think it is fair to warn people so that they don't misunderstand what the contract means. I just read the link provided by OP and it seems the Argentinian future contract is traded in a limited scenario. Only available to investment firms and only worth a tenth of Bitcoin, for example. Based on this, I doubt the exposure to retail will increase compared to before. If it does happen though, retail would probably be better off buying Bitcoin directly still.

Why did Brazil took too long to do what Argentina did? Is it because they're a member of BRICS and somehow China is influencing them?
I'm not sure where did you get the impression that the gap between them is so long. Worst come to worst it would be six months apart if they don't change their schedule again. There is too little information to find out the reason why.
1076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I just completed my first totally air-gapped transaction... on: July 14, 2023, 10:47:30 AM
In seems though that for beginners, it looks like it's a complicated process. So maybe it's better to just try for a few sats and see how it goes for you.
They can try to familiarise how it works with other tools like Electrum with an air-gapped setup before they buy a dedicated wallet for this kind of setup IMO. The cost might be lower depending on what tools are available to them (an unused PC or phone, a live OS on a USB stick, and so on). Maybe I'm just more familiar with it but I don't think it is that complicated unless you don't know anything about making transactions with Bitcoin. CMIIW.
1077  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Tornado cash and others mixers on: July 13, 2023, 03:10:35 AM
Singling out chipmixer's answer. Is what happened to them as a result of privacy or law breaking services?
I'd say the latter. I mean, some news reported that they mix funds from various criminals whether you believe it or not, so the story is quite clear. As far as I'm aware a privacy service itself is allowed, which is why stuff like VPN and so on exist. I remember reading that a mixer is basically a money service business, which is why the government also requires them to comply with KYC and so on. Basically, it is fine to run a mixer as long as the government can see the data while others have difficulties decrypting it. CMIIW.
1078  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ledger rollback ledger live on: July 13, 2023, 02:34:37 AM
Using this appimage I was able to transfer successfully (without being forced to upgrade firmware).
I'm not sure if I get what you're trying to say with this post, but as far as I'm aware Electrum never asks you to upgrade your firmware when you use your Ledger. Updating your udev rules is probably the step most people missed, but after that, everything should run smoothly. If for some reason you failed to make transactions due to your firmware being too old, you can check the log and see what is the cause and report it to the GitHub page. It would be better if you can provide more details on how the "work and then would not work again" process happened. At the end of the day though this doesn't really mean you are safe from the risk of Ledger forcing you to update. Especially if you want to store other coins that needs installation from the Ledger Live app. CMIIW.
1079  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Bitcoin Core as main wallet on: July 13, 2023, 02:23:37 AM
If not for the question Op asked I wouldn't know that bitcoin core also stores coins like non custodial wallets. I have thought that it is only for running nodes.
I think you still misunderstand some things regarding how non-custodial wallet work or what a node is. Some people run their own nodes and use non-custodial wallets because they can verify the transaction themselves, or for privacy reasons. Running a node is not the opposite of offering a wallet functionality. CMIIW.
1080  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Cool mining set up that more miners should copy. on: July 13, 2023, 02:08:17 AM
In any case, this is further proof that in low-income countries, BTC mining can be a game changer.
I'd assume that is true as long as they can access cheap electricity. If they don't, then it will probably be as expensive, if not more expensive, than in other countries. My country has relatively cheap electricity, but people would need to spend a lot of money to set up their RIG and wait months before they break even. Not sure if they can do the same thing as OP shared though.
