Let's say for the sake of argument he had no malintent and really did lose all those coins. In that case he was at least extremely (if not criminally) negligent and you should bring him before a civil court and get some compensation. He did get rich by operating the exchange, why should you settle for a loss? |

Digital currency exchange Kraken announced today that it has been chosen to support the investigation of Mt Gox's stolen bitcoins, manage the claims process and distribute the defunct company's remaining assets to creditors. The announcement was made at the second hearing for Mt Gox creditors held today at Tokyo's District Court. Speaking at a press conference following the hearing, Kraken CEO Jesse Powell said he was "very humbled for the opportunity to help the community like this", and that his firm hopes to repair bitcoin's damaged reputation in Japan as much as build its own in the local market. It always amazes me that there are panic dumps whenever an article mentions a chunk of coins being manhandled in some way. Oh no, 50,000BTC are going to be privately auctioned in a month, I better dump! Hell, with the Mt. Gox coins we don't even know if they'll be sold off or returned, and when. It certainly isn't going to be tomorrow or the next day. It's almost as if people forget that there are millions of BTC out there where even a marginal percentage could just show up on an exchange at any given time. Market is more wise than any individual, it is the perfect voting system. Whether you wanna admit it or not is your problem. Why buy at a premium (and they do buy at a premium most of the time) only to dump immediately? That's burning money... 2. Imagine you were a MtGox customer and got 20% of your BTC back. Would you sell most of them immediately? Some people will, but i guess more of them will hold for a higher price to recoup their loss... These coins were out of circulation so basically they were not offering in supply at all. Now they are back, we can only speculate on the amount that will be sold but markets usually tend to speculate close to the worst case scenario (if not more). True. I would find it more likely that fear of the dump will cause a bigger dip than the dump itself... And it's probably already happening. |

This one is more limited and cautious, but it is still not clear what is certain and what is merely a wish of Kraken and/or the clients, that the trustee may concede or not. In particular, the statement that clients will be required to open an account at Kraken in order to receive the refunds seems to be just a wish... Does that mean, pay customers even the stolen amount? or just new amounts? I'd assume it is to pay whatever coins are still under the control of mtgox, anything else would be crazy. I'm baffled why'd they even want to get involved in the mtgox bankruptcy though... Seems like way more trouble than it is worth. Personally I think it's great that there will be an actual investigation. When Powell said: "We’ve decided to volunteer our resources and expertise in an attempt to minimize damage to creditors, restore faith in the Bitcoin community, and demonstrate trusted leadership in the industry,", that explains it all. We all know getting new customers is something Kraken needs. And that's what they hope to get from this move. But, hey. I have a question. How should I go about using my Trezor to also store my Litecoin stash? So a single seed originaly created by the device to also be used for creating LTC keys.
Would using the same Trezor with Electrum and Electrum-LTC work?
Any thoughts on that?

If you don't have enough liquid cash reserves or income that you are forced to sell a "coin or two" every now and then, you are doing it wrong.
I would have to agree with you. I was of the mindset to keep more cash in reserve but my husband figured Bitcoin had a better "return" than the crazy low interest rate the bank offers so we decided, albeit foolishly, to go ahead and keep our reserves in Bitcoin and pull from there when needed. Seemed a brilliant plan until we have had months of downward movement. On the upswings it is amazing though. The only comfort is that we never really had much cash on reserve until we began investing in BTC, so really, it isn't that big of a deal. It is just that our BTC value isn't the same as it was a year ago.  It was @ $240 exactly one year ago But it's true that we were in a strong up trend back then... |

bitcoin production price is atm 131 and sold as 351... it seem fair price to me I'm going to say this makes no sense. 170% is a nice profit margin. If this was the case we would not see the diff level off like it has in the last month. I would also like to see where you got those numbers from... |
