The blockchain without bitcoin is as useful as a road without cars...  maybe you mean a car without a wheel, because a road is still useful without cars... Without all 4 wheels, yes. You can still sit in it and chill out, but you're not getting anywhere... I think we're more or less no the same page |

DOOM Wait, isn't that actually good news for the price? I see you guys complaining constantly that there are too many miners and thus the supply is bigger than demand. Am I missing something? Nothing will change, CEX.IO will continue to mine with all it's hardware. Only the customers who purchased cloud GHs will get nothing, because the maintenance fees will become higher than their income. And in all seriousness, let me repeat the BASIC principle of Bitcoin supply. Supply is CONSTANT. That's why the difficulty adjusts to the hashrate, to keep the supply constant. 25 BTC each 10 minutes... |

When will diff change? I expect blocks will slowdown on this change. ETA on diff change is 3.3 days. And I wouldn't call a jump from 40,6 bill to 43,5 bill negligable. I guess you donīt read too well. It is HARD to click on a link... It is hard on my ruddy phone What's the point? major exchange offline for a day and no big movements at other exchanges  Minor exchange in Slovenia offlne for a day, Chinese short-term speculators do not care.  I believe Bitstamp is in the UK now, isn't it? They are from slovenia or something but operate in UK They are legally registered in the UK. That's where their management and accounting offices are. The rest is still operated in Slovenia (servers, development, support, etc...). Specifically in the town of Kranj... Happy? |

This makes bitcoins worth less how exactly?
You know, Bitcoin. The sound money store of value that eliminates third-party risks? 1. Loses three quarters of its value. 2. The part that's left gets pwnt by third party  1. 1 BTC still worth 1 BTC. 2. Bitcoins transffered to an exchange are not yours. |

+1 I'm seriously impressed with all the FUD regarding Stamp today. C'mon they've been alright till now. One of the least shady companies in BTC and this happens... With Gox, people were delusional for 6 months (1-2 months for a withdrawal is normal, etc...) and some were actually sincerely surprised when it closed down. With Stamp, they shut down for a while to investigate a possible breach. They say they will honor all deposits made before the announcement. They've actually had an audit done a while back. And people are FUDing like there's no tomorrow. This is me:  |

More specifically, the last bit will be shifted out of the integer. The current block height is divided by 210000 and the decimal portion of the result is thrown out. The resulting integer is the number of "halvings" that have occurred. The initial 50 BTC block subsidy is stored as an integer. A right bit shift operation is performed on the block subsidy value. The number of halvings indicates how many positions to the right the bits should be shifted. Any bits that are shifted to the right of the least significant bit position cease to exist. New zeros are shifted into the most significant bit position. The resulting integer is the new block subsidy. Once the value has been shifted 33 times, the last bit will be shifted out and integer value of the block subsidy will be zero. Never, there will always be a little block reward available everytime a miner solves the block hash. The vast majority of bitcoins (99%) will be mined in 2140 or so, we'll be all long gone I dont think it would be mined by then, even after all the estimates. A lot of miners would give up at low rewards . Oh dear... Looks like many still don't understand the basics... 1. The vast majority (99%) will be mined in 2033 (give or take a year). About 100 years before 2140 https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Controlled_supply2. Around 2140 the block reward will indeed go to zero. The thing is that it would be less than 1 satoshi per block, so they rouned that to 0. 3. If there are more miners the difficulty goes up. Less miners, the difficulty goes down. This way the supply remains constant. 4. The transaction fees will replace the fixed block reward. Miners get that today, but it's less than 1% compared to the block reward. So it's not included in calculators... In theory with wider adoption there will be more transactions and more fees collected. |
