Personaly, I don't even see a takeover/buyout to be a viable option.
What do you get for your money? A client base that hates your guts basicaly. Most of them will pull out ASAP.
Sure they may sell off some of their assets. The value of their software is highly questionable... And the name is just synoymous with incompetence.
I think Karpeles is getting the hate. I don't think many would swap that hate onto a new owner - they'd be so relieved! No, I would not put the hate onto the new owner. But I would hold him liable for the outstanding debt. If he just bought my account and would not be liable for my losses, why should I use his service? That mail would be forwarded to my spam folder. And at this point I ask myself: Who in their right mind would invest $300 million in Mt.Gox? The biggest investment in Bitcoin history goes to the most poorly implemented/managed exchange service? And I'm saying that to be nice. Ohhhhh, they will not have all that money right away? I might get my money/Bitcoins back if I stick with them for the next few years? Weeeeeeeee, I'm so excited and relieved... This whole "to big to fail" nonsense makes me sick. Saving MtGox is like putting a band aid on an infected limb. If we don't cut it off, the infection will spread and then Bitcoin WILL die. It's been pointed out in the leaked document that not saving Mt.Gox will set us back by 5-10 years. Let me put this in perspective: 5 years ago : the genesis block 10 years ago : Satoshi is fooling around with his first "Hello World!" SHA256 program...

Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which is the most reliable exchange to trade on?!

Bitstamp and Kraken. I might be biased because they both have fast & cheap SEPA EUR deposits/witdrawals. Kraken is a bit faster & cheaper, also the trading fees are lower. So it's my primary choice. The trading volume is still not for big players (ironicaly it's not going to go up without them). But for us mortals that trade with a few 1.000 € worth of BTC/LTC it's an excellent exchange. They also have DOGE You should give them a try. That being said, treat any exchange as if it could be gone tomorrow!

When I received this mail, I was unable to withdraw bitcoins! They blocked me without any notifications! Now I wrote a letter to them, no response yet. It's a preemptive block. They block you, and then check if everything is OK. Better to be blocked for a day or two, than having your funds stolen, right? At my company (card payment processor) we do the same thing when we find a skimming device on one of our banks ATMs. We temporarily block all the cards that were used on that ATM since the last time the machine was serviced (cash loaded, etc...). THEN we begin investigating and checking witch cards might me at risk and should be blocked permanently. The owners are notified on the same, or the next day (if we do this in the evening/night)... Better safe than sorry, right?

Mt.Gox is not hurting Bitcoin, it's people still using Mt.Gox that are hurting Bitcoin. (Guns don't kill people, people kill people...) But in that respect I also blame the Bitcoin Foundation for not throwing Mark out of their board and revoking the gold member status that Mt.Gox still holds.
People that got into Bitcoin in the last six months got the wrong impression that Mt.Gox was a solid exchange only because their status in the foundation.
Just ignore it and move on. This kind of utterly irresponsible negligence must not go unpunished!
Seriously, what did you expect from an exchange that is too lazy to even change its name after it switched from trading Magic the Gathering cards to Bitcoin trading?
Unless you really like to be 'mtgoxed' every few months. Then by all means, transfer you life savings over there.

Dargo,
Have you considered implementing maker/taker fee structure like BTC China just implemented? Takers pay a fee, while makers actualy get a rebate.
I think this would attract market makers and increase the volume, something we would all like to see happen on Kraken.
You guys are simply awesome, all you need is volume IMO.

$3000 is too expensive for 1MH that can only mine a couple of scrypt coins. It would make more sense to just buy a 2 GPU or even 4 GPU rig, even with the power costs.
Indeed... FPGAs are only interesting in the long run (takes longer for ROI), because of lower power cost. And since ASICs are already on the horizon the long term viability is now higly questionable. Looks like we will be jumping over FPGAs for scrypt. I would consider buying one if it was available today, but a preorder with 3 months wait time is just too much. It seems to me that Koolio and Motaboy have already come to that conclusion a long time ago, but failed to inform us. They have been silent since the start of November. They are probably looking into ASICs like all the others have done. Alpha-tech and jasinlee (Fibonacci Inc., former LTCFPGA): both abandoned plans for production using FPGA chips and started ASIC development. The coming months may prove me wrong, but i'm pretty confident about this prediction...

I'll pay $3000 USD for the Horus. Does that look reasonable? Or is it too much?
That would be an awesome price for the Osiris (5MH), but if they don't get the hardware at ridiculously low prices you'll be paying $3000 for the Isis (1MH) Remember, they would be dumb to sell at lower $/kHs price than GPUs if their hardware consumes 3-4x less power. Even the same ratio is a steal. Most likely it will be at least 2x as expensive as a GPU rig, but with much lower running costs...

The website is definitely up.
And the trade history clearly shows 8 hours worth of downtime (7 if we include the very limited avilability in the last hour). KrakenFX: "no nothing serious, except that we want and are working to get it up and running for our fans to use as soon as we can again"
Please explain how this was not a serious problem... Till this day I had 0 problems with you and loved this site. I just want you to reasure me that stuff like this will not be happening again. Just a plain explanation please. Thank you!

Not cool guys... I don't think you fully realize that the site has now been down for most of the working hours within EU. Where most of your customers (fans) come from... If the problem is really not serious, you are not taking it serious enough. Plan your major downtimes for when Europe is asleep, you will get much much less complaints

Pozdravljeni.
