Changing the subject here but I'm not really that up to date on this but what connection does megaupload 2.0 have with bitcoin and what affect will it have?

Just heard rumours about it and I don't know anymore.

Cheers!

Živjo, zanima me, če je moj plan zgolj držati ethre 5 let, imam potem kaj koristi če jih vložim sedaj v vaš ICO. Če prav razumem boste potem z vsem tem zbranim denarjem kupovali razne kriptovalute in trgovali z njimi?

How many Sell orders will there be after halving. Most will wait for the price to hike then sell their bitcoins right after.

Well the price already hiked in its own way!

How high must it go to expect those sells ?

986  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 08, 2016, 09:59:32 AM
The amount of FUCD and general misinformed/malicious negativity that has been spread about the halving means there will be a relief rally of some sort when it turns out to be a nothing more than a quite boring, uneventful clicking over of the time-stamping calendar and everything works as advertised on the tin.

For those of us that have been around for the first one it isn't even a consideration but there are probably a lot of new faces who will be apprehensive about the deflationary mechanism in the bitcoin algorithm until they see it work with their own eyes.
Actually, the last halving coincided with the release of ASICS, which probably smoothed over the transition. So we might see a bit more of a slowdown this time around, but I don't expect any major issues.

Well the ASICs started getting released a few months after the halving (Avalon) and not really in large quantities. It all happened around the april 2013 bubble. In early 2013 FPGAs still dominated the mining scene, with GPUs switching to LTC (Scrypt). It became an ASIC only game in late 2013 when they started being available en masse. So a full year after the halving.

Everyone ready for the down leg?

Would you say it´s NLC or a brand new freshly paid troll?. Probably the latter. Anyway, ignored for good.

I honestly wonder if the entire forum is just NLC talking to themselves.....wait....that means I'm a Lambpuppet  Cry

Ok, solved with support.
Question... What will Kraken do to prevent such ddos attacks in future? Bitstamp for example solved that perfectly with Amazon.

We've already done some things that should help and plan to do a lot more. We are considering a switch to a different provider of DDoS protection. This is something the developers are working on and I don't have too many details at this point, so I can't say too much about it. But we understand that clients are concerned to know that we are taking appropriate measures, so we'll make a more detailed statement about it soon.

Is it soon yet?

Whoever is doing the DDoS is probably doing it to manipulate price and of course they are going to try to cause trouble right when the market starts to move and is most ripe for manipulation.
If your website is down and API unaccessible how is price moved? Who can place market orders while all the rest can't? Why the attackers are so confident they can trade at Kraken while all the rest can't?

We are investigating to see if we can find a connection between the DDoS and trading on our site and will take appropriate action if we can identify someone, but it may be very hard to do so.
Is there a customer or group of customers that have privileged access to your trading engine? They must also have access to the order book, including hidden orders! They can profit only if they know at what price level majority of 'take profit' and 'margin liquidation' orders are grouped.

Sure, if the attackers are trading on our exchange, then they wouldn't be relying on having access while access is limited. But that doesn't mean that there's no way for them to profit from it. They might be trying to initiate a market crash so they can pick up cheaper coins later, or they might open a short position beforehand looking to close it later after the crash. The market can still move during an attack, because DDoS doesn't usually take down servers - it constrains the access to those servers and different people may experience different levels of access. Some may have no access while others just find that the site is slow for them. It can also happen that people aren't able to login and trade on our platform, but the API is still working. So people can have different levels of access, but there's no group with privileged access.

I should emphasize that we don't know if the attackers are trading on our exchange, only that they could be. It may even be that the attacks are not intended to manipulate price. Maybe the attackers have some other motive, but this seems less likely.

To pay shipping please send 0.46180000 BTC to Bitcoin address...

Thats a lot shipping! I hope it´s not a way to suck more BTC out of the people....

How many machines would that have to be for?

I'd guess 1. I've got 0.80020000 BTC for 1 unit.

Not sure why he's using people traveling in 1st class to ship these...

There is a mandatory request for those which opted to receive hardware, to check their shipping address. The deadline is Wednesday 00:00 GMT. After this date, the shipping fee will be available via My Account page.  There is a new section for Q&A (only about HW): http://ltcgear.com/my-account/qa/  The rest of questions were not answered.

So there is a Q&A online, but now the site gives a 502 bad gateway error. This is not unexpected, but still sucks.

Works fine for me:

Quote
23.) What kind of hardware you are shipping to customers? What are the specs of the Hardware?
Boards, 350 Mhs max per asic unit

24.) What is the amount of hash per one asic ship?
500 khs max

25.) How much power do they draw?
Under 1W per 100kHs

26.) Which sort of connections (Ethernet,USB,…) are on board?
USB

27.) Do they come with a controller or a PSU?
No PSU, embedded controller

28.) What is your PSU recommendation?
No recommendation except certified high efficiency psu. The boards may accept multiple psu, unpowered parts of the board wont hash. The chips are daisy chained, so this needs to be taken in account if boards are powered selectively.
The industrial version of the boards work at higher input voltage, but this feature is not present in boards shipped

29.) Will the boards be overclockable? What kind of cooling is needed?
The hardware automatically sets speed based on thermal performance. The speed can be improved by improving stock cooling

30.) What will the shipping cost be?Will they be deducted from “owed” balance?
Shipping cost is to be collected, however its low value

31.) Where is your shipping location? What will be the value associated with boards shipped, shipping manifest, that customs / duties may be applied to, or will value be negligible or no value ( samples / “faulty return” )?
They will be shipped from outside EU, with low value

32.) Will it be possible to pick them up?
Most likely not, they are shipped via a forwarding company outside EU

33.) Will they come with instructions?
Basic instructions, which would be enough to use them.

34.) How soon will the software/updates be posted on the website?

35.) Is the software open-sourced?
Not at this point since there is some authorisation mechanism embedded in both chips, and controller.
The software will most likely become opensurce in the future

36.) Are the units just boards or do they come with a case?
Just boards, casing is not recommended since will most likely degrade performance and rise reliability issues

37.) What will be the delivery date?
August

38.) What will happen with small share accounts under the minimum of one shippable asic ship?Is there just the hosting option available? Will you adjust the fee?
Currently there are several options but a decision will be taken after this batch deployment

39.) What is the size and weight of the unit?
300×240 mm, 1900g per board

40.) What will happen with Dual Mods/Gen2?
Several options are taken in account. A decision will be taken after this batch deployment

41.) Do you have pictures or Videos of the units?
Yes, links are/will be available via this web page

42.) Are the units pure scrypt units or can we change the algo?
Scrypt only at this point. They may receive extra algs in the future. At this point there are several reasons why only scrypt is implemented

43.) What happens if the units are defective? Is there any kind of service planned?
Not service for the moment.
After deploying this batch, it is possible to chose certain peers (volunteers) to receive a quantity of boards which can be used as replacement for defective boards in same geographical region.

A bunch of BS if you ask me. He avoided answering any hard questions. And the specs are a joke.
998  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How is bitcoin better than litecoin? on: August 06, 2015, 12:19:56 PM
To get back on topic. How is bitcoin better? It has a bigger user base and that's about it.

Litecoin is essentially indeed a fork with some modifications/improvements. The number of coins and the hash algorithm are not really very important.

What makes it an improvement is 2.5 minutes per block and anti-spam filters. Meaning it can handle much more transactions than BTC before the block size becomes an issue. And we all know how hard it is to get people to agree on that. Wink

An explanation from Warren (lead LTC dev):

Quote
It is mathematically 4x that of Bitcoin, however in practice we benefit over Bitcoin in a different way..  Due to our anti-spam rules the majority of transactions on the Litecoin network are economically "meaningful".  Historically many millions of transactions on the Bitcoin network have been for the express purpose of spamming.  The Bitcoin network makes it too cheap to send large quantities of outputs that are highly unlikely to be spent because doing so would cost more in fees than their value.  Litecoin is different in that it punishes sending outputs that are too small by requiring yet another minimum fee per output that is uneconomically small.  When the majority of transactions are forced to be meaningful the network in practice can handle a lot more transactions because it is not competing with worthless spam.

as consumers often prefer to have transactions in whole units instead of fractions

ROFLMAO - you do realise that appx. 1% of ALL retail transactions happen in "whole units" in the USA - dollars are COMMONLY split into fractions, it's why we HAVE coints.
cent is short for "1% of a dollar", by the way.
I don't see this "whole units" argument as being more than a strawman argument at best.

...

Actually this not a bad argument. Let's say you buy something worth $10. You pay 0.0357 BTC or 2.5 LTC.

That's what they mean by fractions. It's easier to remember compared to zero point zero something Wink

okey because Litecoin, however, uses the scrypt algorithm – originally named as s-crypt, but pronounced as 'script'. This algorithm incorporates the SHA-256 algorithm, but its calculations are much more serialised than those of SHA-256 in bitcoin. Scrypt favours large amounts of high-speed RAM, rather than raw processing power alone. As a result, scrypt is known as a 'memory hard problem'.

The consequences of using scrypt mean that there has not been as much of an 'arms race' in litecoin (and other scrypt currencies), because there is (so far) no ASIC technology available for this algorithm. However, this is soon to change, thanks to companies like Alpha Technologies, which is now taking preorders.

I had to look at the timestamp of this message just to be sure it's from 2015 Smiley There were quite a few companies that sold scrypt ASIC devices. Gridseed, KNC Titan, Alcheminer... That started about a year ago, btw Wink

But the arms race has come to a halt as most of them have stopped making new ones. But you can get a limited quantity of used ones on Ebay etc... Expect a lot more after the halving Wink

Alpha Tech are either scammers or utterly incompetent. They should have shipped over a year ago, but so far nothing Smiley
