1181  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Sheepy - new cryptocurrency payment gateway on: June 09, 2023, 12:26:01 AM
Sheepy has a demo page where you can see how the platform works and try it out for yourself. The demo page lets you create a sample invoice and see how you can configure payment settings. This demo page is a great way to experience the convenience and flexibility of Sheepy.
I tried to check your demo. Basically, the countdown starts after you input the payment amount, but not before you select the payment method. I don't think it is a good option. I'd suggest starting the countdown after the user choose the payment method, and maybe extending the timeout for more than 15 minutes since a confirmation might take longer than that in the live version.

Also, what is the difference in the QR code between the URL, Address, and Amount shown in https://www.sheepy.com/demo/invoice/demo? I can't seem to understand it.
1182  Economy / Economics / Re: US Advisory on Payment App Risks and Bitcoin’s Position as a Secure Alternative on: June 09, 2023, 12:18:31 AM
What's the point of storing funds in a payment app? Payment apps should be used only for payments. They aren't banks or investment funds.
I don't know about payment apps offering investment plans or paying interest/dividends. Maybe there are apps, which are offering such services.
I think they just want to warn people to not rely on other companies to store their wealth and use banks or other alternatives. Not really surprising since people can get really stupid sometimes. Not sure how it works overseas/in the US, but in my country payment apps have a limit on how much money people can store (around $700), so it is unlikely that people will use them to store all their wealth in the first place.

AFAIK, the risk of a payment app going bankrupt is really small, because those companies invest the funds their gather from the customers in short term treasury bonds. The only way for the payment apps to go bankrupt is the company owner to exit scam. Such risk is really small, but it does exist.
They are trying to sell insured services at the end of the day, so using a risk of bankruptcy/uncertainty will definitely get mentioned. They can also tell people about the lack of control over their funds when they use a third party, but that is counterintuitive if they want to sell banks. Even if they mentioned Bitcoin, I believe the end goal is definitely to push people to use banks more.
1183  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: El Salvador to develop mining farm Using Volcano Energy on: June 08, 2023, 02:44:20 AM
Not sure using Instagram as a source is really a good idea. Some comments also suggest that this is old news. The latest news regarding El Salvador mining is related to this one[1]. Not sure if Bitcoin Magazine is mixing up volcano energy with a company called Volcano Energy or not, but it seems like recycled news.

But first thing first how to get the energy from the volcano Im I missing something here or I am just dumb  Grin Like how? I know Coal powered, solar powered or nuclear powered but this is new for me.
If the OP is referring to the news I linked below, then it is using wind and solar energy. The article claims that it can work together with the geothermal energy mentioned last year, but it is unclear how it will do that.

1184  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 08, 2023, 02:10:05 AM
Do you guys agree with what @tayvano_ mentioned on her Twitter account about some of the possibilities of the root causes of this Atomic Wallet hack
Both of them are certainly a possibility. It is hard to figure out what really happened unless Atomic shares what kind of exploits are being used by the attacker. Even if they did that though, the distrust is still there since they can edit some code before making it public to steer the narrative to their preferred direction. Zach also claims to know what happened behind the scene. At the end of the day, someone would be better off using other wallets in the future.

Side thought, when this happens why the hell do these wallet people not push a 'dead' version out to the app stores. Should be sitting there and ready to go. Just one that displays a big warning about what happened.
Unless I'm mixing up some news, IIRC, they disable the downloads shortly after the attack was reported. Not sure why they allow users to download it again, especially after some reports suggesting the latest version is one of the ones that got affected.
1185  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Fun & learning Bitcoin blockchain downloaded on 1TB Silicon Power 2.5 SSD on: June 08, 2023, 01:47:01 AM
Just curious guys is there any website or thread who predicting the full size of BTC block transaction when all bitcoin has been mined 21 million  Grin .
I can find some tools that track blockchain size such as this one[1], but I can't find those who predict the size when all BTC has been mined. You can probably make a manual calculation with a fixed variable such as 1 MB per new block, 6 new blocks per day, and so on.

SP A55 doesn't have DRAM so that's the reason it's having I/O limits.
Maybe we can visualize it in detail if you show the comparison between and after this problem comes up. For example, my external SSD speed decreased by a blot (from 200MB/s write to 30MB/s after I copy a ton of data in one go). AFAIK, the SSD speed should come back up after you trim it or clear the cache even if they don't have dedicated DRAM. CMIIW.

1186  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: P2P Scams : Where does the government stand on: June 08, 2023, 01:24:48 AM
But for now, best solution is running an awareness campaign and let p2p  users not trust users on the other side of the screen as these are strangers and trust should never come in the picture.
There are definitely good tools that we can use to prevent scams from happening, such as multi-sig/escrow, trust profile, trade history, etc. I believe people can definitely use P2P without being scared that much as long as they get the gist of it. But yeah, a change of habit can be quite difficult for some people who usually rely on a third party to prevent scams from happening.

If cryptocurrency is banned in your country, you can ask friends from other countries to set up an account with one of the European payment systems and buy cryptocurrencies through these systems.
Oh, so that's what you mean. I guess people can do that as long as the requirement is not that difficult. I do have an overseas bank account opened through apps like Wise, but I believe they also need to follow regulations in my country to some extent.
1187  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Explain this to Me Like am a Five Year Old on: June 08, 2023, 01:04:45 AM
    • What message is the SEC trying to convey to other nations, especially their allies?
I'm not really sure if a single decision by SEC makes other countries will follow them blindly. Not to mention there is also dissatisfaction with SEC inside the US. AFAIK, they get sued by Coinbase regarding regulation clarity and they have yet to respond. They even get a deadline to respond within a week or so[1].

At the end of the day, they are trying really hard to make most tokens classified as security and sue exchanges left and right. The end goal is definitely to gain control over the market. As others have mentioned, better to be safe than sorry. Withdraw your money if you have any, and use other platforms if you need to trade your crypto (or look at P2P).

    1188  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.4.4 Released on: June 07, 2023, 02:35:09 AM
I am stuck on 9 sat/vb fee last a couple of days, but I'm not in a hurry.
I believe you can find the explanation for no suitable output error in this forum, for example in this thread[1]. AFAIK, it basically means you don't have any more output to spend to increase the fee. It is not a new change at all. CMIIW.

1189  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Are there any smartphones out there that are hard wallets too? on: June 07, 2023, 02:27:27 AM
But not all smartphones have a built in cold storage wallet so it can be said to be secure. Most can also have vulnerabilities that hackers can get into to get crypto.
If I remember correctly some companies already tried to build a dedicated secure chip for their CPU, like Qualcomm SPU unit. They can market those features and build a dedicated phone for crypto (some already exist I believe) if they wanted to. But it still doesn't solve the problem that a phone is a phone. Personally, I wouldn't use a phone as a hardware wallet even if they claim it is unhackable due to a secure chip, etc.

    Changing their mind after the update is just like saying;
Most people definitely lost their trust in Ledger, especially after the latest Atomic Wallet exploit. Who knows, maybe the same thing can happen when Ledger makes their firmware can expose the user's seeds in one way or another. Unless they make everything open source and allow people to verify/develop their own app without relying on Ledger, I wouldn't use or recommend them to others.
1190  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: New rules for cryptocurrency trading in Hong Kong from June 1st on: June 07, 2023, 01:48:07 AM
Yes interesting but risky at the same time Centralized stablecoins that are under the authority of the government will be worse than fiat in my opinion it is true that it is backed by the government and by real assets but on the other hand there is no privacy and your money can be held by the government without No apparent reason.
Isn't that what CBDC basically is? I believe it will happen eventually, government wants easier control at the end of the day. Not sure how other countries would apply it but I doubt cash will go anytime soon, so that is still an option. But yeah, it is hard to not feel that banks/governments will freeze your money anytime they wanted to, especially if you have limited options to store your wealth.

SEC wouldn't look at this different from paxful releasing that BUSD for binance don't you think?
Binance also have those USD on paxful which binance does have real USD on them.
I believe so. They just started suing more changes and claiming more tokens are securities, so I doubt they will let anyone issue digital USD without their approval at all. Would be interesting if they tried to fight other countries to make sure they can control everything.
1191  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: P2P Scams : Where does the government stand on: June 07, 2023, 01:21:15 AM
In Russia, for example, such exchanges will quickly lead to the blocking of a bank account. On average, 7-8 thousand dollars per month of operations on a bank card and the account is blocked.
8k USD per month transaction limit is kinda low, isn't it? If it is because crypto is being used, I wonder why they don't block people from the beginning and wait until they reach a certain threshold. Is there a limit or something on the trading activity for each month?

I would try to use the European and American services that are on the website https://www.bestchange.com/
for purchase only. If you are blocked there, then there will be no problems in your own country. You can buy cryptocurrencies in small amounts of 300-500 dollars.
I'm not sure I get it, how can you be sure that a service is available in my country if it was blocked in Europe/US? For example, Pakistan just ban crypto based on the news shared a few days ago iirc because they don't want to get blacklisted internationally. At the end of the day, I do believe exchange services will allow users from countries that don't explicitly ban crypto trading activities.

    1192  Local / Altcoins (Bahasa Indonesia) / Re: [DISKUSI]Altcoin Kategori Layer 1 & 2(Berpotensi tinggikah?) on: June 06, 2023, 05:23:02 AM

1193  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: [List] Dompet Bitcoin - Wallet Sofware on: June 06, 2023, 04:34:38 AM

1194  Local / Topik Lainnya / Re: Kenapa Banyak yang Sering Ganti Sigcam Bayaran BTC on: June 06, 2023, 02:16:46 AM

1195  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: [List] Dompet Bitcoin - Wallet Sofware on: June 06, 2023, 01:33:29 AM

1196  Local / Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian) / Re: [CHART] Tampilan Bulanan Aktivitas Lokal Board Bahasa Indonesia on: June 06, 2023, 01:19:32 AM
1197  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: A Non-Custodial wallet, Atomic Wallet, being compromised on: June 04, 2023, 08:30:31 PM
Zach claims to have successfully recovered some of the stolen funds. He said he knows what is wrong but prefers not to share it as of now[1]. Wonder why he decided to do that, maybe the attacker still has the means to exploit more? Kinda surprising the funds are even recoverable.

1198  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: P2P Scams : Where does the government stand on: June 04, 2023, 12:25:39 AM
And if you ever happened to take your case to a court of law, they will first not only take your case but at the same time make you guilty of using the cryptocurrencies against the rule of law. The only way to remain safe in this situation is to make P2P transactions cautiously so that no one can scam you.
Does your country explicitly state that trading crypto is illegal, or crypto is not allowed as a means of payment (like how fiat works)? If it is the latter, I think you won't get jailed as long as the government is not doing something behind the scenes. If it is the former then prevention is definitely the only way to protect yourself. Relying on somebody else is not a good idea, to begin with.

Overall to avoid any such issues in the future it would be wise to setup and entity in a crypto friendly country. Do all crypto to fiat and fiat to crypto transaction in that country. Then send your profits through wire transfer to your home country.
I don't think it is feasible for the average user to open a new bank account overseas. Not to mention it doesn't solve anything if they use a platform that doesn't support any dispute system, a multi-sig/escrow to prevent scams, etc. CMIIW.
1199  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Shilling service on: June 04, 2023, 12:09:52 AM
Aren't you looking for a bounty manager already? That should be a good option for marketing. You can't force managers to accept your proposal even if you pay them a lot of money if their credibility is at risk unless you want to hire someone with no reputation at all. It might be a good idea to introduce your project first. As far as I can remember, there are also marketing services if you want to promote your project on other media in the Services board, just need to search for them. I doubt any of them will accept mindless spam posts though.

1200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best open source hardware wallets for BTC? on: June 03, 2023, 01:12:03 AM
Since it's a software wallet, you can risk losing your BTC if the hacker gets access to your device. With a hardware wallet, they'd need to get physical access to the wallet and enter a PIN to steal all of your coins. Electrum allows you to create a cold storage wallet, but I'd certainly won't be using that to make day-to-day payments with BTC. That's why I prefer hardware wallets, even though some are expensive.
I believe you can also install Electrum on a live USB if you don't want to expose your wallet continuously to the internet. For example, buying a mini-PC dedicated to running a live USB with Electrum, or just an air-gapped device in general.

Some are using trezor and they say it is open source and cheaper than Ledger. In my opinion, I don't think anything is 100% secure, and Ledger is an example. We trusted them for years until they announced their damn service. The best way is that you divide your assets into parts and store them in different wallets, I think only then will our assets be more secure.
I don't think they expect Trezor or other open-source hardware wallets to be immune from exploits or bugs in the first place. However, it is certainly better compared to using Ledger after their latest fiasco. You can simply build your own device and verify the firmware/etc since it is open source. Using multiple wallets increases the burden of making backups. Sure you can do it, but if you use closed-source software then I don't see it as a significantly better option. CMIIW.
