121  Other / Beginners & Help / [Guide] How to get genuine windows 10 ISO and why? on: January 28, 2020, 11:40:01 AM
Prelude:

Last night I was installing windows on one of my machines while watching the installation go through a random thought popped in my head. I quickly went ahead and googled People running pirated windows, I couldn't find official statistics from Microsoft which is understandable as it will give bad press to them but I did manage to find some alarming figures... This article[1] from Indiatimes showed up in one of my search results. According to a Microsoft study in Asia around 91% Of PCs Sold In India Run On Pirated Windows 10, And 85% Of Them Come With Dangerous Malware. The story doesn't end here.

Quote from: IndiaTimes
The software piracy levels in some countries is unbelievably high. According to Microsoft's report, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand reported 100% piracy in brand new PCs purchased off the shelves.

India was next in line with 91% pirated Windows coming pre-installed on brand new, box packed computers and laptops. That's not all. In India, 85% of PCs that came with a pirated version of Windows 10 pre-installed were also loaded with dangerous malware, including backdoor software that could be used by hackers and bitcoin miners that secretly utilize your PC's power and performance for someone else's use, according to Mary Jo Schrade, Assistant General Counsel and Regional Director of Digital Crimes Unit in Asia at Microsoft in Singapore.

This totally blew me away... These people don't earn enough already and if they are becoming a victim of a scam through no fault of their own. The least we can do is warn them. If you are running a pirated version of Windows please do yourself a favour and get at least the Genuine Windows 10 ISO from Microsoft! This guide will show you exactly how you can get the Genuine Windows 10 ISO via a Direct link. Microsoft has been a dick for a few years now and is pushing one of its download tools for downloading windows 10 but this guide will show you how to work around that and get the ISO file instead. Before someone jumps in and says use Linux, Not everyone can jump platforms overnight. There are countless reasons that have been discussed before and I don't want this discussion to head there.

Things to think over before we begin:

  • If you have created a wallet on a pirated windows consider it compromised. I will suggest creating a new wallet after installing the new windows and moving your Bitcoins to your new wallet. Bonus points if you upgrade to Segwit.
  • Consider all of your passwords compromised aswell. I will suggest creating new passwords for all of the websites you are registered on. Trust me its worth it. Read this guide from @GreatArkansas.
  • Consider investing in an OEM Windows key. They usually go for around $5-$10. Stay away from windows activator. If you can't buy an OEM key try to live with the watermark.
  • Consider staying away from Cracks, Look for free opensource alternatives for your needs.
  • Consider formatting all of your drives/Previous data. A fresh start will only help.

Have a suggestion to add into this list? Feel free to leave it below.

Let's Begin, shall we...

1) Goto this URL: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

2) You need to enable the Responsive Design Mode on your browser. If you are on firefox/Chrome/Opera you can do this by pressing Ctrl + Shift + M after opening your console.

3) Select an Apple Device from the Dropdown menu and refresh the page.

4) Select the Latest Windows Version and choose your appropriate language. Click confirm.

5) Choose the appropriate architecture 64-bit or 32-bit and start your download. Most of the PCs support 64bit architecture these days but you can still make sure your CPU is compatible by googling " ( CPU model ) 64-bit support "

Burning the ISO with Rufus and some thoughts.

Once your download has completed. Head over to https://rufus.ie/ and download the latest version. I won't recommend any other ISO burners as Rufus is OpenSource. Don't use any other shady ISO burners as they can insert all sorts of malware while burning the ISO. I will highly suggest following this video: https://youtu.be/K7SlsJEVSXc?t=60 as it includes everything you need to know while burning the ISO file. I will also suggest putting some time in learning how to install windows by yourself, There are plenty of youtube tutorials/guides around which take you step-by-step through the entire process. In the world of Cryptos, you trust no one except yourself. So don't let anyone install it for you. If you truly believe in Bitcoin then respect the ideas behind it.

P.S Microsoft used to publish their ISO's Checksum but for some reason has abandoned it altogether. So if your network is already compromised then there is no way of verifying the ISO you are downloading from Microsoft is indeed legit. In the long run, you should consider moving to a Linux based Environment.

Note: Feel free to translate this thread for your local board.

You did nothing wrong with that thread... It's just that not many people are familiar with the technical side of bitcoin... I clicked on the links which @Jackg shared turns out there were some terms ( E.G P2SH, MAST ) in the article which I wasn't familiar with as I never understood the technical side of things ( or let's just say I never bothered to learn about them ). Anyway one of my new year's resolution was to learn the technical side of things I saw that themoneymongers website had a crash course on Bitcoin, I signed up for it but turns out it isn't technical enough but they do have some useful articles... E.G I now know what P2SH means, what are UTXOs and What Language the Bitcoin is programmed on. There is no point in me by just replying thanks for sharing the articles I'm reading more about it. It just adds up the spam...

The only way you're (sanely) going to get a game like this to be provably fair, is have each client have a secret -- send a hash of the secret to the server (which broadcasts to all other clients). Then when the client has seen the hash of all other clients seeds, reveals it's own seed. Then the game result is computed based on all the client seeds.

Would it be possible to do this without a server seed? (assuming we have multiple client seeds)

So a little backstory, I ran a lottery of sorts a while ago, it was basically PVP or peer 2 peer. 10 people would participate in a round and the prize of the pool was distributed to the top 3 players who rolled the highest number between 1-100... We stumbled upon this very issue. The server generating the seed will always have an edge over the other clients. The way we solved this issue was by selecting a server seed which was based on future bitcoin block's hash, something basically we had no control over. So when the client bought a ticket their client seed was stored in the public ledger on the website and once the 10 tickets were bought, a round hash was generated and mailed to all the participants, basically ensuring that none of the client seeds are changed afterwards. After that, the game waited for a new bitcoin block to be generated and its hash was used as a server seed to generate the rolled numbers. That's how we made it provable fair by simply taking away the edge from everyone.

Rolled number = Future Bitcoin Block's hash(acts as server seed) + Client seed + Random Nonce of each round.

Unfortunately, the game didn't get much traction and i had to shut it down...

Why aren't the FIAT supporters acknowledging that their dirty creation is being used for dirty illicit purposes?  Roll Eyes Some times Elon makes me wonder whether he is Steve jobs or Steve Wozniak.

Now back to the reply, I'm going to answer "As for shady domain names, Google has already got the users covered" with a question: Do you think 100% of the Google Ads are properly checked and safe to click?

Not even Google would claim that their system is 100% safe. There is no such thing as 100% safe in the real world. There are always weak points in a system to be exploited. I think I went too far by saying google has got our back... I take my words back, they haven't got our back after all... I did a bit of Googling on keyword "Cloud mining" and I was presented with these four beautiful trustworthy websites  Roll Eyes

Bitmain.Farm Ad is a perfect example of what you were referring to in your initial post and it looks like they aren't real Bitmain either according to this thread... Ultra-miner also looks shady as hell there is no thread of it on bitcointalk, What I did find was this thread. I think they are trying to steal agilmine's identity ( wondering what's up with this all this identity theft going in bitcoin space )... As for eomining I couldn't find anything on bitcointalk either.

As I said earlier if they end up with something which blends ads with normal search results, We can easily then callout google for their hypocrisy. I will keep an eye on this situation and see where Google heads from here.

127  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BEWARE what you visit! Google's new design makes Ads look like normal results! on: January 24, 2020, 07:27:59 PM
People have been using Google for decades now, for me at least it has become subconscious to not click on any of the top links and look out for "Ad borders"... Anyway, this new Rebrand isn't that bad... Even from the design perspective, the search results aren't that blendy if I am being totally honest... But you shouldn't be taking my word for it, I ain't Picasso. As for shady domain names, Google has already got the users covered. Google doesn't accepts any sort of crypto-related ads[1] anymore except for regulated crypto exchanges in the US and Japan ( I believe this has been extended to EU regulated Exchanges as well because the "capital.com" ad you saw is one of the exchanges from EU ). I believe they have introduced some filters of sorts where certain words like coin, block etc have been blacklisted, So anything like coinmarketcap will almost be instantly rejected... So what you are suggesting won't be happing as the lessons[2] have been learned in the past.

The ad you saw is from one of the regulated Exchanges which google has whitelisted. According to Google, the ads are reviewed within 1 business day[3] so even if someone succeeds to bypass the automated process it will get eliminated in the human review as google doesn't allow advertisement of Counterfeit goods[4]. Also, I don't think Google will end up with this design as it's their policy[5] on Adsense that the ads should stand out from the rest of the content on the publisher's website... So it will be hypocritical of them to end up with something which blends ads with their normal search results while banning publishers for doing the same. Give it time as @BitMaxz suggested they are probably testing different designs...

For the quantum experiment, I wasn't suggesting that if you put every atom in the same place, same energy level etc., and then made the same measurement choices you would get a different experimental result - although on reading it back I appreciate I wasn't clear enough, sorry. What I meant was that you can repeat the experiment and always get random (and different) results, the classical analogy being a coin toss in which the speed and angle of the coin toss, air resistance, temperature, humidity etc have no bearing on the result.

No worries! but you kinda indirectly said we can't prove randomness... Lemme explain how because you can't put every atom in the same place, same energy level etc., and then make the same measurement choices you would get a different experimental result that is my whole point based on. If we were to have the ability to pull this off and the results ended up as something else only then you will have the grounds to make an argument for randomness. But since this can never be the case, there is no certainty that the results are truly random and just appear to be random in the smaller picture...

I deserve and accept this shame, but instead of giving up or letting myself down, I'm ready to move forward and start being a better member of this community.

Apology accepted and No dude you are not being shamed! We have all let down ourself in one way or another. I personally have nothing against you, it's just that we get a lot of spam here which makes the reading experience terrible for other users. A warning isn't a terrible thing either... I will tell you my story, Back in the day we used to get placed in SMAS blacklist ( Signature managers against spam ) for spamming... It was a nightmare for shitposters... I got placed in it by @Lauda for the good! Some times we need to be slapped to wake up and get our shit together. Once you made it to that list coming out was tough work... You weren't allowed to participate in the signature campaigns managed by them So you are still in a far better situation than the rest of us were!

People treat Bitcointalk as some sort of online money making website... It's not! It's a private forum for discussing bitcoin and blockchain. People get blacklisted for the very reason that they see bitcointalk as an opportunity to make Easy money! Start treating it as a forum and you won't land yourself in any trouble...

Just like @o_e_l_e_o I don't have a problem with news stories, articles etc... Some people have compared your links with @Hydrogen but there is a striking difference between the posting style... @Hydrogen engages in his threads which he creates as I have said many times before and his articles are sourced from different websites... Just look at how many threads @Hydrogen has started in the last couple of month and then compare it to what @Cheezcarls was doing. The intent behind sharing the articles becomes clear as day... It was always the intent which was in question, not the link/articles themselves...

Anyway, it's about time this chapter closes... Hope the lessons are learned and we can move on to better things.
131  Other / Meta / Re: Board-specific signatures on: January 24, 2020, 07:02:12 AM
The first thing that comes to my mind is why would a company not want to get some free advertisement? Basically, they get free advertisement whenever the user posts in a non-paying board. Why would they want to give it up? Economically doesn't make any sense. As for local language specific signatures that makes a lot more sense... E.g in the case of chipmixer they can have as many translated versions of their signatures as they like... In the recent hiring they wanted German posters, So a german specific signature would have suited them in theory but if you look at surveys, they suggest 56% of germans [1] can understand English. So is it worth paying for the translated version of their sigs is their marketing decision as you said... But this could work in other local boards where the native speakers hardly understand any English. I don't see why something like this shouldn't be developed. It will open up all sorts of advertisement opportunities... This could be further developed for forum Banner ads e.g Each local board could have their own specific banner ad. Opening up more spots for advertisers basically... It's a plus one from me...

@Cnut its something which i am still reading/watching about... I will leave my thoughts here once i have read enough on the subject...

Quote from: Cnut237
The crucial point here is that in quantum mechanics, repeating an experiment with the exact same initial conditions does not result in the exact same outcome.

what does this mean? I mean one of the conditions which won't be true is time it self... Can you explain what do you mean by exact same initial conditions? There is no way you can travel back in time...

I gave the article a read for a second i thought this might be something good but turns out it's just another Fancy Pump & dump group trying to use a study [1]. What experience does @velvet.capital has in the real world? What kind of results have you achieved? I can optimize a simple MACD EA ( Expert Advisor ) through Backtesting and claim X amount returns but that doesn't mean that EA will perform the same in the real market. Backtesting results should be taken by grain of salt... Anyway this sounds like a pump and dump group, basically allow us access to your account so that we can use your money to pump and dump shitcoins... Plus your website looks sketchy as hell...

It is indeed hiding behind the textarea. Notice in the gif below the height of the textarea increase by 30px when we type something... It goes from 246px to 276px. @theymos i don't think it was the stray </div> but rather something to do with CSS. The height is being overridden for some reason...

Report the posts, they are of low-quality. The user is definitely spamming. If they wanted to share it for a discussion it would have been acceptable but the posts are basically one-liners except for the text copied from the articles...

@tokeweed Life is not just about money jeez! These Celebrities wouldn't have been going through depression and shit if life was all about money! Just do a quick google search and see how many have suffered through depression! As for Mcgregor, let's just say the guy is a good fighter but money has got to his head...

@uray if that's what you got from the documentary then you need to rewatch it. Dagestan is underdeveloped as hell! Dunno if you saw that Series's all parts or not... But he is constructing a Professional Gym where more people can train... it must be quite hard for them to source/ship the materials where even the roads aren't developed yet... Where do you think he will put his money? The guy lives with his Mum&Dad and is Patriotic as Fuck! LOL!! If I remember correctly there was the question of whether he might end up in politics to which he responded along the lines that might be possible. The dude is super famous already and can definitely help their struggling economy...

See this post on the cryptotalk forums: https://cryptotalk.org/topic/37314-how-to-use-yobit-investbox/. This is even worse than what I have outlined above.

What I have concluded is they Prey on users via this lack of information. I never TBH actually understood what these actions meant, their FAQs have zero information on any of these subjects. So any new user might easily fall for their traps. Simply put they are scammers just like you said...
