I wonder if one would have survived in the futurama world at all. It looks dangerous to live there. They might very well let you socially acceptable die... or so. Cheesy

Hope you still answer me dargo. Besides, I noticed that announcement about the MtGox trustee. I believe it said to log in at https://claims.mtgox.com/assets/index.html#/signin and verify the decision of the trustee or so. But I can't. It says that someone might have claimed the coins already, which I did, but how to verify the decision of the trustee then?
1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blocks are full. on: March 02, 2016, 02:46:39 AM
Cryptology

It is pretty clear that somebody is doing this on purpose.

Agreed. That data points in that direction. In any case for an average bitcoin user it really doesn't matter why block are full.

Unfortunately this is not really true. I got a number of people complaining about transactions not going through because they chose a standard fee of some kind. Looks like there are enough wallets out there that still can't deal with spam attacks.

Windpower

So pretty much even if we raise the block size, it is going to do nothing. Wow. Why is everyone making a fuss over it then?

Some fear that it will be the first step only and have nightmares of much bigger blocks and that then someone could not run a node anymore.

Others explicitely don't want it because they want a fee market. Which means alot higher fees. They have the impression that bitcoin is a network for high amount transfers and that all small transfers are spam only.

Well, then there is the accusation that some of them do this only to promote lightning network. Which is practically using another network instead using bitcoin directly. Can't say that I give that idea much chances. Bitcoiners will be hard to convince.

And some others say that we first should implement SegWit. Which is a good thing but will get to it's borders relatively fast too. It can not help for very long.

AliceWonderMiscreations

If Amazon accepted bitcoin most people would still use credit cards, just like most people buying from newegg use credit card.

Before Amazon's volume could grow large enough for there to be a serious blockchain problem, your typical Tom Dick and Harry would have to own bitcoin and choose to spend it, and that's years away.

Sure, amazon would probably avoid advertising this. Though even the community might already put pressure on the network only by realizing the chances showing up with amazon adopting.

Though if the would advertise situation could change fast.

It's a very theoretical question anyway. No serious business would invest now in something bitcoin related. With all the news of apocalypse because of forks, non working bitcoin transactions, fights in the community and and and. Nobody invests into such an unstable area.
1244  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Why soft fork is a very bad idea and should be avoided at all costs on: March 02, 2016, 02:28:12 AM
It will be about 30 minutes between blocks, due to the intentional trick which makes the hard fork trigger long before it has 75% hashrate.  (And it will likely be even lower, since basic game theory says you should cheat this one by announcing support for it, and then not mine on the fork.  So there is no way to know if the fork has a mining majority at all before the fork is supposed to happen.)

I think that the biggest pools are often enough serving other miners or have customers. Claiming to do one thing and doing another would actually result in a huge customer loss. So I doubt that will actually come into play.

Of course if the exchanges can not reach a consensus (basically they follow the major hash power), then it means the consensus is not yet enough strong, it must come from enough users , exchanges and miners together, so 75% hash rate is enough strong, given enough support from exchanges and users
Consensus is important among nodes, not miners.  Miners who don't follow the consensus rules are simply mining invalid coins, and ignored by the nodes.  No matter how much hashrate they have.  Miners aren't important in that regard.

Even when the majority of nodes would promote different blocks, which assumes that the fork already happened and that miners would accept these different blocks as valid, the miners simply would need to make sure that they connect to nodes that give them the blocks they want and all the other nodes would not matter much anymore.
1245  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptostocks - BTC,DVC,LTC denominated Stock Exchange/Crowdfunding Platform on: March 02, 2016, 02:18:49 AM
I wonder what kumala is working on. It seems cryptostocks is not his priority, obviously profits from there will be low and unlikely to rise again when he put works in it. Vircurex did not answer me either, so he might have a new project he puts his time into or he left bitcoin.

Edit: Kumala, there is a problem with your daily update or something like that. If a security is set on Trade Stop then your update removes that setting and it is live for trading again.
1246  Other / Meta / Re: If an account is banned where can another member see this? on: March 02, 2016, 01:57:45 AM

When even scams are not moderated, why should moderators work to support/help account sales? It only helps give a false sense of security. You trade accounts at your own risk.

Sure, trading at your own risk. And using an escrow can avoid that risk even, at least when the escrow is changing the pass, so has to login.

Though for the unescrowed trades or trades where the escrow is not logging in, it would mean supporting scammers. Since showing a ban has no disadvantage for everyone else though has the advantage that others can't be scammd so easily.

Well, when I think over it it might be rather rare cases when someone trades an account without escrow and even would know the account name before buying.

arbitrage

Yes but when selling account he also can claim that wasn't banned from signatures..
So there is no way to know is it scam or not?!

Mostly there are entries from campaign managers in trust ratings. Or one could check out google search with:
Code:
site:bitcointalk.org username banned

When even scams are not moderated, why should moderators work to support/help account sales? It only helps give a false sense of security. You trade accounts at your own risk.
Probably because they don't support trading of accounts anyway,
probably they assuming this account will be used for scams, so this way they will discourage sells..
  But this is still legal..Why?

They forbid it once but the problem was that it did not change anything. Trades still happened, only hidden. The downside was that they did not see it happen. It's better the trades happen over forum pm.

Decoded

It's only in the modlog when the ban is manual. Most of the time, it's automatic.

Simply just look in the meta thread, and usually the butthurt guy will come crying.

Though an account owner who get permabanned and has a scammy character would not do this. He would try to approach interested users with this irresistable offer.

Though like I wrote above. I think the cases might be very rare to be the reason for a change.

1248  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Escrows - Trade Safely! on: March 02, 2016, 01:15:26 AM
ezeminer

Account selling is up to escrow discretion in my opinion. I personally wouldn't sell, and I wouldn't escrow because there is nothing to say accounts could be attempted to recover, used for scamming or any other things.

Well, the last thing can be prevented relatively good by checking the account out properly. Though some things can't be checked 100%. For example a signed message for an address might be beaten with an even older address. Or loans could be done through other means. Though the escrow can explain the buyer those risks which would end up making the deal more safe for the buyer. And you would not believe how many account trade scams would happen without some escrow doing it.

Besides... account trades are not rewarding as an escrow in form of tips. And the time needed is 10th of times higher than for normal trades since you need to check the account out. I use that list for checking: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1362297

Blazed

It is amazing how many accounts get traded here per day. Before I stopped offering escrow I would get a tons of requests per week for account trades. If I had to guess I would say 5+ get traded per day here (likely a lot more). Looks like they are lacking an escrow these days till Sebastian returns....

OgNasty wrote something similar though I really don't escrow accounts often. Though I can imagine when an escrow vanishes then buyer and seller, maybe indepentendly start to contact all the other escrows and soon it looks like a huge amount of trades. Cheesy

You might be below the actual amount of trades with your 5+. Though mostly traded are accounts worth $20 or even lower. I stopped escrowing them so I don't get asked often anymore but there were alot more requests for those accounts back then.

SFR10

To escrow providers that are avoiding the whole account trade deals, why just don't make a rule of leaving the account (new owner) a neutral feedback of telling, the following account is under a new ownership. Any feedback prior to this date would be inaccurate. I think something like that would be a good step plus at the same time, it won't give that much of freedom to the buyer to scam someone in the future (unless some fail to read the feedback).

It would be the same like when theymos and staff tried to forbid account trades. It was simply useless. The only effect was that the trades did not happen through forum pm's anymore. So at the end staff not even was able to see what happened and what was traded. As far as I understand it it was allowed again to allow them to have some insights.

mexxer-2

I had to laugh when I saw your new avatar. Back then we joked on the forum that all the scammers already announced their character by naming them properly. Pirateat40, nefario and whatelse they all were named. So "criminal mastermind" does actually not look like the best idea. Cheesy

I have already provided a signed message from the aforementioned post.

Well, not saying that you bought the account but the ability to sign even for an older address can not really proof that you are the original owner. The original owner could have sold you the private key of the signing address. A signature only can ensure that an account was not taken against the will of the original owner.

So it's never a good idea to post addresses you don't have the private key for or losing a wallet because of missing backups. It can be deadly for your trust.

Anyway, I hope you are legit since we had enough scandals...
1249  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: [WTS] Very Old Legendary Bitcointalk Account - UID below 10k! on: March 01, 2016, 10:31:49 PM
I can confirm that areyouserious asked me to provide escrow for this trade. I know that legendary account and know that op controls it.

I wish good luck to the one who receives that old account. Smiley

I'm showing that I'm new by asking this, but can you explain what you do when you "provide escrow".  Again I'm just a newbie and trying to figure this stuff out.

Areyouserious is right. As escrow I would take the coins you pay into escrow so that the seller can provide you the account without fearing that you would not pay.

However in the case of bitcointalk forum accounts I do some checks to make sure that the buyer receives a correct account. I listed these checks here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1362297
1250  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [LAUNCHED] Staisybit - Universal Online Staking Wallet on: March 01, 2016, 10:04:03 PM
Devs, I think you really don't see the importance of support. And if it is only through giving updates on here or on your site itself. Missing support can turn problems VERY fast into a circle of doom. And trust me, this is nothing you want to have. I have seen this too often.

I guess you work on things since you invested already alot of time into the website but really DON'T miss the support point.

Just saying...
1251  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake, a.k.a. "Clamcoin" on: March 01, 2016, 09:43:13 PM
No really... without digging clams will lose ALOT of his charme. And i think it will go down pretty fast then too.
How can you say that after 2 years!? The only reason why CLAM is still alive and kicking  is Just-Dice. You can't be that blind. I don't have a problem with digging but that award (4.6) need to be smaller with time.

You didn't get my point. What I was trying to say in the unquoted text is that all the new users mainly come to clam because of that unique feature. To be honest, I would never have bothered to spend the hours of time investigating clams when I could not be pretty sure that I would find some clams on old addresses of mine.

Take this away, where will new clam users come from?

From gamblers? Why? They will most probably be bitcoiners so why should they bother checking out just-dice when they would have to buy and checkout some altcoin to gamble there? JD is not even the biggest casino so I don't see why one shoul invest the time to do so.

Clam will die pretty fast because it won't be able to attract new users anymore. A gambling site with only a single altcoin, I don't know if it can attract normal gamblers. I doubt, because of the hassle.

Well, only my opinion...

Hi Leute, bin wieder frei...

@Macno

Hi,

Dargo can you explain why I still can't login with these other accounts I had on the exchanges kraken bought?

I received 2 emails. Checking the named usernames they were from the two bought exchanges where I, it seems, had accounts too. But when I tried to login kraken only says that it does not work. User unknown or so.

When I received the emails I thought it is because of the overloading or that you guys sent the emails out before you actually sat up everything. But it still doesn't work.

Where my accounts merged without noticing me?

I believe he said two weeks

I think so too, though website developments normally take longer than anticipated in most cases. Well, that is true for most software development projects though. Cheesy

Though in fact I don't understand why they don't develop on a copy of the website. Then simply push the new developed code over. Should work better an could be done very fast.

1256  Economy / Services / Re: [ANN] SebastianJu - Free Legendary Escrow Service - Escrowed over 8150 BTC on: February 28, 2016, 11:21:48 PM
@SebastianJu

What you did with that neg trust account the user wanted to sell and you told the buyer was the 100% right action to take, when buying something the buyer should know all the information about the "item" in question.

also in regards to the "tip response message" above, I never thought of that, I mean when I used escrow I do tip the escrow-er after a successful exchange (I never had a trade going non-completed) But the answer to that is pretty simple:

Start charging fees, so you get a "tip" every time for completed and non-completed escrows, or you can only accept tips for religious or other reasons?

It would be nice if you had small fees (I guess like 0.0001 for small trade) and each thing can have more of a fee depending if its electronically or physical or even if high risk, but if you do charges fees please don't start charging crazy fees lol

I will be interested in your service in the future, thanks for your bitcoin support!

Thanks for your words. Well, normally established members tip, though it seems new accounts often don't. Maybe because it would be no problem having that account negative somehow. Dunno.

Anyway, first thing why I escrow is because I know how really really annoying it is to get scammed. I like making the life of scammers harder and maybe I can even help a bit to let bitcoin lose it's bad reputation.

Though the other side of the medal is that escrowing takes time. Normal escrows where I create the details including escrow address, then trading partners deal and at the end I forward coins and send thank you pm, are seldom. Mostly a couple of pm's have to be answered, which needs time. Really not seldom some problems appear with one of the trading partners which takes a lot time then. Which means escrowing is time consuming.

At the end, before I included the limit for account trades, I spent regularly hours each day on escrowing. And it was practically unpaid because of the low values escrowed. So why do I escrow, to prevent harm. Though I can't spend too much time on it so I thought I would need to set a limit so that the risk the trading partners go in match the time I spend.

Well, 0.0001b would mean no fee at all anyway for me since I could setup and go through with hundred of these escrow trades and would receive $5. For a work amount of 10th of hours. That's not possible and not usefull for the trading partners too because they risk nearly nothing in their trades.

I simply have to find a balance between the time I invest and the usefullness of escrowing. So at the end it might be a way to go to go to minimize the time I spend by the cost for my service. Traders then could decide for themselfes if they want to go through.

1258  Other / Meta / Re: My account SebastianJu banned for 14 days now? on: February 28, 2016, 09:36:48 PM
Guess that might be worth a suggestion for the new forum then. Cheesy It simply would mean the longer one is in a forum the higher the chance to get permabanned while one would have to behave pretty stupid to do the same in a years timeframe.

I think closing the thread is not needed probably, it will die anyway fast. And I don't really like when others close threads when I would have wanted to say something. It feels like being forced to shut up. Tongue Might be only my preference or feelings. Smiley
1259  Other / Meta / Re: My account SebastianJu banned for 14 days now? on: February 28, 2016, 09:25:21 PM
Looks like my account is completely free again. Smiley Thanks moderators and helping staff.

I only fear a bit that something like that might happen again, not for the same thing, but for some unknown rule one is not aware about.

Is there a forget 14 day ban after, let's say 6 months or so? Since otherwise the risk that another ban might be a permaban sounds pretty high. And the longer someone is a member on here the higher the chance would rise to get another one. Is there something like that?

And to those who tried to warn me kindly, please think about adding to your warning that it is an actual rule or even that it is a ban reason. Only something that would have saved me from this experience. Wink Thanks for the warning anyway, I'm sure anyone getting warned that way will be thankful. Smiley
1260  Economy / Services / Re: [ANN] SebastianJu - Free Legendary Escrow Service - Escrowed over 8150 BTC on: February 15, 2016, 05:01:54 PM
Just to that things straight... I did not change password on the account guessed to be the one and I'm not able to speak about the identity of the account that was to be sold.

Anyway... seeing that account trades are a lot of work and trouble way too often I think about allowing all account trades as long as they can be relatively safe traded or that the buyer is aware of the risks. In exchange i would demand a minimum fee to be paid for all account trades and all gift card trades. The latter minimum fee might be lower.

Further on I think about adding a minimum fee when very young accounts are involved. This can be avoided by posting proof of the account behind. Though those accounts way too often mean a troubling escrow deal. So a minimum fee might be needed there too.
For all older accounts such a minimum fee would not apply since they mostly try to stay legit and mean good trades. On a case to case basis it might be voided too when trades already happened.

Though these are only my thoughts as of now. Seeing that some trades actually mean hours of my time, mostly without a tip at all, something has to happen on that front so that I can safe some time or at least my time gets a small compensation. Escrow is nothing to earn really anyway but wasting time is not so appreciated by me. Smiley
