Just wanted to pop in and let the HBN community know that I'm behind it and I want to help where i can.

Has anyone ever tried to adapt p2pool to HBN? I was thinking of looking at the NVC p2pool fork an having a go, but didn't want to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks StakeHunter.  There were a few that tried to run a p2p pool. For some reason all of the blocks generated from the pool were rejected, not sure why.

I'd guess the new NVC p2pool should work. If you do want to give it a shot, let me know.

Thanks niceman. The site looks great.

How about to add http://www.CoinMine.PW to the second post with pools list?

Done. We'll get it added to the website and CCT as well.

I zipped up everything that you mentioned but the wallet for you, I see that it is over 300 MB even after zipping it up so I can't email it to you.  Where can I put it for you?  Lmk.

You could try one of those free upload sites like

http://www.fileswap.com/

or

http://www.filedropper.com/

PM sent.

Thanks. I was able to re-create the error. It stems from corruption of the index. Which is kept in files in the %appdata%\HoboNickels\txleveldb directory.

The quickest fix was to remove or rename the %appdata%\HoboNickels\txleveldb directory. Then start the client with -loadblock=%appdata%\HoboNickels\blk0001.dat

This will re-index the blocks again. Takes a bit of time, but faster then using the network.

The newest BTC client 8.5+ has an option -reindex which does approx the same thing. I would like to add this into HBN, but it will require a substantial amount of work, so it won't be for a while.

Hey,  I started to see a weird message when I went to open up my 1.3.1.0 wallet.
The wallet has been working since I updated.  It is encrypted,  but I unlocked it to do PoS and it has been minting.  I had to do some work on my rig and powered it down,  and this came up when I restarted it.  I have the wallet to start up when I restart the rig.  (Running win 8  )

"
"MinGW Runtime Assertion"

Assertion failed!

Program:
C:\HoboNickels-qt-1.3.1.0\Hobonickels-qt.exe

File:
src\kernel.cpp, Line 372

Expression: pindex->pprev ||pindex->GetBlockHash() ==
(!fTestNet ? hashGenesisBlock : hashGenesisBlockTestNet)
"
Then if I select "retry",  I get

" Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!

Program
C:\HoboNickels-qt-1.3.1.0\Hobonickels-qt.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

I have no idea what this means,  or what to do about it, because I'm not QTwallet master.

Can someone give me some insight as to why this happened and what to do about it?

I'm assuming that I need to backup my wallet.dat and delete some shit from my appdata roaming folder or something,  but I really don't know.

Let me know if I need to post up more info.

Yes, as presstab stated, you will need to navigate to %appdata%/HoboNickels folder
and remove the database directory, txleveldb directory, and blk0001.dat file. You can re-sync or use the files presstab has given.

You should, as you noted, make a copy of your wallet.dat before you do this.

Finally if possible, could you or someone else, rar/zip up all the files i just mentioned, that are causing this error, and put them somewhere. I would like to to do some testing with them to nip this bug in upcoming v1.4 release.

Thanks

I have question , wondering if anyone could help me out with.

I encrypted some of my wallets.  I have a few than I would like to unlock so they can generate pos blocks. I tried to do so with the 'walletpassphrase' command.  However, it says that I can't do this because my wallet is not encrypted (my first wallet is not encrypted).

So is their a command I can use to switch to the 'active' wallet so I can use the walletpassphrase command to unlock it.  Like in the debug command options, how to unlock certain wallets , or how does it select which wallet I'm talking about when I use that command?  Thanks for any assistance!

You need to use the usewallet.

usewallet walletname walletpassphrase password timetounlock mintonly

I have looked at the source code for a minute, so I can't suggest anything yet, but 90% of the CPU time spent while synchronizing the blocks is spent in
Checkpoints::CheckSync
Code:
            while (pindex->nHeight > pindexSync->nHeight)
                if (!(pindex = pindex->pprev))

now 80 minutes CPU time for 300k blocks. This is the bottleneck, not network speed.

Thanks. I'll look into this more..

I have "display coin control features" checked under options, but how do I do... whatever you guys are talking about to check if my coins that generated orphaned proof of stake are still "aged" ?

Under send coins, you should see a new box.

The Tranz5 repo is my Work in Progress. It maybe unstable from time to time.  I'll work on those compile issues tonight. It should be a small change.  (Fixed)

The crypto expert is the stable release environment, I only push there once all the kinks and updates are complete.

Zack let me know when to turn on the old client to push as I have some PoS that are aged.
1275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 23, 2014, 10:41:42 PM

I got my first stake... though only half the coins staked (showed up next to the Stake label). Does that I mean I continue to let the wallet run unlocked so the second half may also stake? Thanks!

That's right. You had 2 coin blocks, so you need to wait for both sets to stake. Next staking period you will have 4 blocks, unless you combine them.
1276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 23, 2014, 02:34:08 PM

Stake interest  is what the current interest the algo is allowing. Divide it by 10,000 and you have 100% yearly interest. As the PoS difficulty goes up the interest goes down.

Min and Max weight let you know how aged your coins are, and how much weight they are carrying versus the entire network

As long as your wallet is live on the network, and it is not encrypted(or unlocked if it is), your coins will stake, just be patient.

More information can be found on the wiki. At wiki.hobonickels.info

Just curious that as stated in WIKI stake coins will be calculated once a wallet is connected to internet again.

What is the difference in stake gain between a always-online wallet and a disconnect-then-online (say maybe disconnected for few months) wallet?

Coins age no matter what, connected or not. But they do need to be online to become a block.

With an always online wallet you get additional coin through compounding interest.

Hi guys

I recently bought some HBN (11 days ago) and trying to stake for 6 hours now. Running getinfo gives me below. My question: what do these fields imply, namely netstakeweight, stakeweight, stakeinterest etc. Is there a guide on these already that I can look up. Am I staking or not? Sorry new to PoS, mostly been involved in PoW so far.

{
"blocks" : 612874,
"currentblocksize" : 1000,
"currentblocktx" : 0,
"difficulty" : 1.94812723,
"errors" : "",
"netmhashps" : 269.90783029,
"netstakeweight" : 169944.57609122,
"generate" : false,
"genproclimit" : -1,
"hashespersec" : 0,
"stakeweight" : 14,
"minweight" : 14496,
"maxweight" : 0,
"stakeinterest" : 1000000,
"pooledtx" : 0,
"testnet" : false
}

Stake interest  is what the current interest the algo is allowing. Divide it by 10,000 and you have 100% yearly interest. As the PoS difficulty goes up the interest goes down.

Min and Max weight let you know how aged your coins are, and how much weight they are carrying versus the entire network

1278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] official NovaCoin thread - the original PoS+scrypt coin. --POOL LIST-- on: February 22, 2014, 05:05:30 PM
Hello,

In this commit: https://github.com/novacoin-project/novacoin/commit/b9c711308fc96540c0a22c7aba0707d90460c0a1

It seems that line 394 in wallet.cpp, (CWallet::WalletUpdateSpent):

Code:
NotifyTransactionChanged(this, hash, CT_UPDATED);

Is not needed as it causes a warning:

Code:
02/22/14 08:29:22 Warning: updateWallet: Got CT_NEW, but transaction is already
in model

When returned back to CWallet::AddToWallet  and the next line try to notify transaction as new.

At least I think that is why. I commented out the new Notify and no such warning and still received notification in wallet of new block found.

1279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 20, 2014, 10:34:01 PM
For those interested in seeing what new features and changes will be in version 1.4 see this thread.

https://cryptocointalk.com/topic/4390-preparing-hbn-v14/

it's good to see "walletpassphrase" will be valid forever for time 0

However I am always not sure if I should set True or False after time value to disable RPC send HBN function.
i.e. walletpassphrase passwd time true/false

You will want to set it to true. This will only allow you to mint coins and not send them out. I think in version 1.3.1.0 has the mint only option extended to gui. If not it will be in the v1.4 release.
1280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 20, 2014, 10:25:01 PM
I see no reason to change the way mining is done on Hobonickels. Trying to make things "equal" for PoW miners doesn't make sense. Whoever has the most hashing power will have the biggest advantage, just like whoever holds coins the longest gets priority. You can either PoS mine, PoW mine or buy the coins on the open market. I do all three and I haven't had any problems doing so.

The networks is being secured and supported, that is the important thing. If you PoW mine as a business then its your responsibility to stay on top of your business. Moniter your miners, switch coins when necessary etc etc. If you PoS mine its the same thing, watch price, volume, level II, research. Everything requires work, and this game is competitive.

If you don't have time to manage your PoW miners, then don't mine.
If you don't have time to move coins around to reduce dust and cpu load, then don't mine.
If you think this coin will give you something for doing nothing, then please take your money elsewhere. Everything requires some level of effort.

Whoever started to stake those 30 day+ coins deserves to mint every PoS block until they receive all their rewards. That is the deal that was handed to everyone when the coin was launched. Changing parameters to favour one type of miner over the other isn't fair and to change the rules in the middle of the game will discourage any future interest in this coin.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks sir.
