In version 1.4 I will update the repairwallet rpc command to remove the orphans.

I get corrupt 2nd wallet file again, no hard restart this time. Luckily it's empty.

It will be convenient if "repair wallet" command is added to rpc or menu.

Were those wallets created from version 1.2 and moved to 1.3?

Presstab is correct, these are orphans. The Mac client does work and will stake, however the staking algorithm is not very efficient on it. So you end up with more orphans then accepted. Not to worry though. If they are orphaned they retain their coin age and try again. Plus you will get the increased interest once they are finally accepted. I suggest using larger coin blocks with the Mac client.

Unick and I did some test on test net with the mac clients. They are producing the correct solution to solve a PoS block ,but they just do it a bit slower.
1304  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 11, 2014, 10:37:17 PM
I've been wondering about a Staking issue.

If I read right, the coins split every 10 days when stake is generated. How is this going to affect the 1 year super stake? Do the coins remember the original minting date? or are they getting washed new every 10 days when it splits?

Or was the super stake pulled? I don't see it mentioned on the front page any more.

If it's gone, then I may just recombine my coins again. I generate so many little stakes that it's going to get cpu intensive.

The coins are split, so coin age is destroyed, and reset to zero.

Yes Super Stake is just a buzz word, the 2% every 10 days has not been changed.

Each person can find a good balance for when they should combine. I do it about every 2-3 months.
1305  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: HoboNickels - HBN - 2% stake power! - Version 1.3 on: February 10, 2014, 02:04:24 PM
Oh, I solved it! Ran hobonickels daemon with -salvagewallet option and after a while it recovered the wallet file!

Good to hear. Remember keep backups!! Even make a paper wallet, with dumpwallet.

I am curious as to what happened to corrupt it in the first place. Did you upgrade recently, from 1.2 to 1.3?

Does this look right? No connections yet but I'll keep the wallet open.

Also, If there's a HBN noob forum, kindly point me there. I don't want to become an irritation but I do want to figure things out and become a hobonickel miner.

yeah pepto, that looks about right... give it time to pick up a connection. If it doesn't work. Try opening up your firewall

You need to do addnode 94.23.31.223:7372 add
1308  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: HoboNickels & Proof of Stake on: February 09, 2014, 04:50:23 PM
Hi,

i have some hobo coin since more than 10 days and my wallet is open most of the time. I don't see POS. There is a minimum amount of coin needed to POS ? Or do i need to do something with my wallet to start POS ?

Thanks

No min, just about any amount will stake. However the smaller the inputs, the longer it will take, but as they age their chance will increase. Max weight at 30 days.

If your wallet is encrypted, you will need to unlock it.

See here about PoS.

Change the OP. the config is Mintcoin.conf not mintcoin.conf

Quote
in the mintcoin folder, create a file called mintcoin.conf

I'm interested in knowing the current inflation rate, how many coins are minted daily through PoW and how many from PoS?

Thank you.

I don't have the exact stats on this, I'd have to scan the block chain. But I can tell you that we are right on par with where we would be with PoW only.

PoW started in July '13  approx 200 days ago times 14,400 coins a day = 2,880,000

We are at "moneysupply" : 2901892.33080000,

But I have noticed we are getting more PoS, so I expect the inflation rate to pick up slightly here in the next few months.

Thanks for the easy explanation.

wing_hk The difference in that code is it will auto find other nodes and add them to your DNS. where as Meska has hard coded them.  In any event I will add your IP to the Live seed list.

Thanks!

1312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: hobonickels wallet will not sync.. do you guys have a conf file / addnodes? on: February 09, 2014, 12:27:01 AM
IRC has banned the use of 'bitcoin' clients.  I have seed nodes ready for version 1.4, but it is not yet been released. For now you can try adding these nodes to your .conf or use the addnode feature in the rpc console.

DNS Seed Node added(Thank you Meska), 4 hard coded seed added. IRC turned off by default.

Would like one/two more DNS nodes and 5-10 more live nodes.  Let me know if you can help.

I added your pool to the first page, and we'll get it added to the website here as well. Thanks!

I would like to get mine on the list as well

irc.rizon.net has now banned 'bitcoin' clients.  I will be removing the irc code in version 1.4. It will be replaced by seed nodes.

In the mean time you can stop using irc by starting with switch -irc=0. If you need a node to connect to please PM or ask.

If you have the know how and desire to run a seed node, please let me know. I will pay a nice bounty for it, but you have to get it up.

Thanks!

"seed node" means a always on wallet accepting RPC connections right?

Sorry I may have caused a bit of confusion.

If you want to be a simple seed node, there is almost nothing special you have to do, other then run the client, with a decent number of connections. You do have to have a static IP though.

So if you can be a normal seed node, just PM me your IP and I will add it to the list.

If you want to be a DNS Seed node, do a few google searches and let me know if you think you have it setup. We can test.

Nope. No luck. I'm just going to have to try it in a Debian box.

It might be worth tring out nvc and see if you can compile it. Our coins are very similar. If are you are able to, and find a thing or 2 that needs changed for HBN. I would be appreciative, for a PR.  I've got a bit of stake right in the wings....

No luck on all fronts. The farthest I have progressed is with trying a Qt Creator build, but I seem to be hitting a wall with non-free code that is not available in the Fedora repos. I see that error has done some work compiling bitcoin-qt specifically for Fedora but I don't see that a lot of other work has been done in this area. This tells me that pretty much everyone is still quite reliant on non-free code, including the Bitcoin Foundation. Something that I would like to see cured eventually.

Hmmm. If you want you can send me a PM with some specific build issues. I have only built on win 7 and Ubuntu so far, but I am willing to try another flavor of Linux when I get some extra time.

Is this still minable?

Absolutely. Difficulty is still relatively low, and can be solo mined well with even just 1 mh/s.

How do you do it?!

You made this coin, didn't you?
