My guess is that Jon is shorted with high leverage to around 4.20 and is just goading people to attack his fake bull position.
The bid curve is so flat immediately down-side of the monster wall that I don't see how anyone can take this as a genuinely bullish state of affairs.

When are you planning on getting more in stock?
Well, they're in stock here right now, but we can't seem to supply enough to Cablesaurus to keep them in stock (selling out within hours of listing them). Because each board needs to be tested, then packed up and shipped to Cablesaurus, there's a bit of a lag. They will have more stock later this week. Sorry, but you guys are just buying these up too fast to keep up!  I think you'd sell more in the long run, and be able to plan the size of your manufacturing runs better if cablesaurus simply accepted pre-orders. I've been checking the cablesaurus site over the past weeks and have always been unlucky. I bought ztex & icarus boards in the meantime. |

i understand nothing is perfect...ever. the specific enhancement i suggested was to have the wallet encrypted from the get go. gavin explained he thought the average user couldn't handle remembering the password they set it up with, so the decision was made to make it easier, but less secure.
The broader picture of security includes user behaviour. Coins lost through mistakes made jumping security hurdles are just as lost as stolen coins. I'd argue that the chosen path as explained by Gavin is superior from this perspective, and it would be better to pursue improvements along the lines of striking visual cues that the wallet remains unencrypted. |

Assuming 12kWh, is this even possible on a domestic electricity circuit under normal circumstances? (100 Amps @ 110V)
If not, then those 30 GH/s GPU farms are only fictional or very rare.
According to my household power monitor... our instantaneous water heater alone uses around 15kW. That thing is on a 3-phase 240V supply (Australia). I've seen household usage spike up to near 20kW - so I guess an electrician could put in circuits to supply a nice big GPU farm. Not sure how well that would go *on top of* the already heavy usage of some households like this one though! |

Someone was paid by the banking industry to discredit Bitcoin?
Doesn't seem that way to me. Assuming he's correct... The bitcoin system has proved useful in revealing a minor issue with SHA256 ... which the banks (and military) also use. Note that many US military systems are still in the process of migrating *to* SHA256. It's highly unlikely that these surface scratches indicate a massive reduction in the security and utility of SHA256. It's more a case of 'orderly migration' to something stronger - rather than 'panic exit'. |

I thought it notable that a security consultant who works for a bank should choose to mention Bitcoins out of all the usecases for SHA256... Lategan says his findings nevertheless indicate that vulnerabilities can exist even in trusted algorithms in use to protect currency as valuable and widespread as Bitcoin.

First we have to climb a mountain, then build a skyscraper on top of it... then survive a series of earthquakes. Unless we can demonstrate that - there will be no bitcoin space-program. |

I also see that as desirable.. but I wonder if the 'stream' will be in the order of a few cents(ie those trashy 'fiat' cents) per month by the time the unit has paid for itself. If I were to buy one of these - I'd actually be content if it paid itself off by the end of 2013 even if it was making negligible amounts after that. The motivation in that case for me would simply be the satisfaction of supporting the security of the Bitcoin network with 20GH. The counterpoint to that is that I also worry that before it's even recovered 50% of the cost price, it could be as obsolete for Bitcoin mining as CPUs are today. I'm still tempted as a gamble.. but it's a pretty big gamble, with an obvious downside, and a not so obvious upside. For this to actually be 'exciting' - wouldn't we need to see a massive and extended crash in network hash power (and also presumably price), followed by a recovery? |

As I see it - p2pfoundation is just cataloguing some possible and perceived issues with bitcoin and putting them forward for discussion.
