1341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mintpal hacked (VeriCoin) on: July 14, 2014, 08:19:08 AM
Rolling back would be the same thing as producing money out of thin air...moving it magically from one wallet to another.
Except that no new coins were created.
That's not the point. The point is the old coins were put back where they came from. Essentially a bank bail out. The first one in crypto history.
But that's not what happened in the bail out or in a bailout. In a bail out new coins (dollars) are created and these are given to the banks. The dollars or coins that were lost continue to exist and the new coins/dollars also exist.
A bail out (if we want to make it like the recent bank bailouts) would mean the total coin supply was adjusted and the new coins would replace the stolen ones at the exchange, whilst the stolen coins also exist.

1342  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mintpal hacked (VeriCoin) on: July 14, 2014, 06:31:24 AM
With any crypto currency there is always the risk that parties will co-operate to change things. Though I stand to be corrected on this.
Certain parties co-operated to change some transactions. That is fair enough I think. That risk will always be possible with crypto coins.
I think the whole thing is good because it demonstrates what coins really are.
Without community the whole experiment can't work anyway.

The whole idea of rolling back a blockchain because an exchange lost coins is ridiculous. Mintpal should make good on the losses out of their own pocket for their sheer incompetence. Even if it means the death of their exchange and the collapse of the market value of VRC.
If they can't secure their customers coins and aren't prepared to pay for their own mistakes in the event of a security breach then they don't deserve to be in business.
A roll-back and hard fork would be the equivalent to BAIL OUTS of the big banks in 2008.
Fucking retarded.
Except with the bail out, money was produced out of thin air to bail out the banks. At least here the thieves don't gte the coins and the owners get them back. (unfortunately with the bail out the people responsible ended up with more money Tongue )

I wonder though if there is a way to trade coins without having to reply on an exchange?
Is that what blackhalo does in some way.

I'd be pretty concerned if this was due to MP trying to stake the coins and thus leaving them online.
Maybe we need exchanges to be more transparent
1345  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 14, 2014, 12:25:20 AM
Could someone make a complete noob tutorial for making your XC completely 100% safe. Teka you mention you have yours stored very safely what did you do?

Thanks :-)
We made one on the website: http://www.xc-official.com/wallet/

Of particular relevance are encrypting your app, backing up your wallet.dat file, and backing up your private keys.

Let us know if you have any questions, but the how-to should pretty much sort you out.
I clicked on the middle link here and extracted it....wallet is syncing it seems

http://downloads.xc-official.com/release/windows/

Should I start all over again and follow the steps you linked to?
1346  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 14, 2014, 12:13:09 AM

however we have been working with the VRC developers and all major exchanges to hard fork the coin at a position before the attack. This will allow us to retrieve the stolen coins and facilitate all withdrawals. We are also working with various exchanges to accommodate any losses they may encouter as a result of the required fork.

Can they really do that?

Yup and they did.
I saw a suggestion here (and is is pure speculation and may not be true)...https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=692757.20   that MP may have been keeping a lot of VRC in the hotwallet in order to stake them.

Is that a possibility, and is would that be a possibility with XC as well?

Did you guys see Mintpal was hacked for VRC? All the more reason to keep your coins off exchange  Undecided

when ?

Yeah, also they only attacked vrc balances?
Probably rather stupidly I have my XC spread over several exchanges....but the windows walletr is fine and working isn't it?
Can I download from official XC website?
Is there a step by step guide for dumb people like me Smiley

I clicked on the middle link here and extracted it....wallet is syncing it seems Smiley

Can I stake from that wallet?

Will we be able to transfer XDN directly from either Bittrex or Poloniex to this exchange?

It is obvious from your questions that you have not read much of this thread as you have no sense of this coins developement to date.
I would recommend you start reading from Pg.1 and don't stop. >>  DO THE WORK YOURSELF  <<
Ok..whatever. I don't think I will be be buying this coin and probably other people wont buy it either if supporters like you can't explain why it is cheap.
Most likely this coin will just die

this coin will be fine, and if you are wondering why we think it is cheap is because compared to other coins with the same features and similar coin count like say cloakcoin.
Isn't cloakcoin different though in that it obscures information via exchanges? That seems quite unique if I understand it correctly.

the price has taken a dip because the dev doesnt respond as fast as he should for many shakey bag holders.  if you dont want to buy the coin then fine but you dont have to say it is going to die.
You are right there. Apologies for that. I don't know what will happen and this could be a good opportunity to buy for all I know

currently the focus has been on the website design and promotions via twitter and youtube etc... this dev has delivered consistently and i am sure will continue to do so.  dev has already said this is not a get rich quick scheme.  it has survived two pump and dumps and will continue to grow.
Is the anonymous feature a mixer? Something like coinjoin?

I heard there are very few people who really do mine Monero and the developers use botnet to maximize the demand for this coin. Is it true?
I heard that President Obama is a 12 foot tall shape shifting reptilian...is that true?
1354  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 12, 2014, 11:01:26 AM

Rev2 has been released. atcsecure has released a functioning rev2 on mainnet and is working on further updates to bring the trustless mixer into the UI. Everything has been delivered as promised.
Dang! Why can't these guys be like everyone else and not deliver on time? It's so annoying

With rare exception, every state on the planet grows larger, more tyranical, more confiscatory, and more dangerous with each passing year.
Except known history does not bear this out. Pretty much all ancient societies were socialist as Igor Shafaravich's research  bears out in his book The Socialist Phenomenon..
More recently we have seen various experiments against this trend

Yea you know i may be unfairly looking at the world through the lens of my own perspective. My government (that is to say the government that rules over me not the government that i own Tongue) started out small and has grown out of control over the last 200 years. However most other governments were much more tyrannical 200 years ago than they are today. Grin
haha Smiley YOu know in my work I am constantly looking and studying how the world could go wrong, mainly economically. But when i look at the big picture things are getting better.
1356  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XC][OFFICIAL] PoS/Privacy on: July 12, 2014, 10:45:00 AM
The question is, when is REV2 finally going to be released? That's what everyone wants to know.
And here was me thinking it had been released. That makes me feel better. It's good to see the coin holding it's ground. Quite a few coins have been under some pressure
1357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAMM] MammothCoin|Anon Wallet Released - 1st X13 with SuperBlocks on: July 12, 2014, 09:25:40 AM
whats up with this coin?
Price took a beating, otherwise good coin/dev/community. Cheap on Bittrex right now.
Cheap compared to what?
I see we got a comedian in the house. SO how about you go find me a cheaper
x13 pos coin (50% year 1) with anon/supersend/coin control with a sub 6mil coin cap.
Are you wanting another supersend coin or just any anon coin?
My intention though was not to be a comedian. I own some Mammoth and have been thinking seriously about buying more. I've been surprised at how fast it collapsed.
Now I'm old enough and ugly enough to understand that this collapse may not be "rational". It may represent a great opportunity.

So lets be clear. I apologise if I came off as flippant. Can we compare it to some similar coins?

Look at it this way. Right now you could set buy orders on Bittrex for about 430 sat. That is very cheap
for a coin with this level of development and specification. ..... Hope this helps.
It does not help, as you don't explain why it means it is cheap. If this coin is to succeed it needs this spelled out, because it needs new investors.
What is it that makes it cheap? What coins are you comparing it to?

Global sovereign debt collapse (which means global wealth confiscation, war, chaos, and descending into the economic abyss).\
So ...are you really saying this will ruin every corner of the globe? if not then what portions are you talking about?
It's just that you keep mentioning Europe and America...but that's all you mention but you keep calling it "global".

So...is it global or is it just Europe and the USA?
1360  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MAMM] MammothCoin|Anon Wallet Released - 1st X13 with SuperBlocks on: July 12, 2014, 07:41:36 AM
Its cheap beacause it cost less than 10% of the top trade level.
And its not abandoned coin.
Really ? What is the dev doing?
