Check out links:
MagiMining (I will push guides into this thread, also be sure to ask any questions you may have regarding mining. still updating ..)
MagiDev (development thread, suggest & comment)

Suggest us the "next" work: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=848731.0; will lay out the plan.

Also need some one to confirm stratum for XMG is working if you're able to: https://github.com/magi-project/magi-scrypt; use setup.py, and when embedding it into pool mining, using algo: scrypt (will change later on).

This is Spexx's windows CPU miner and guide posted on December 03, 2014:

New Windows XMG Magi Mining Software Release

I wanted the fastest possible Windows miner. I thought I could do even better than before but got bogged down in details. So I contacted the Vulcans for their purely logical take on things, but they just kept on muttering about the High Council having decreed that time travel was impossible so no joy there. I tried using The Force, but was tempted by the Dark Side and had to turn back. Finally I had a word with a young bespectacled boy who taught me how to use a birch twig. I waved it about in front of my compiler, shouted "Gofasteramus" and there was this bright flash of blue light with smoke everywhere. When the smoke had cleared, I had a newer, faster generic minerd.exe which needed no dll files at all plus two even faster minerd.exes to support CPUs with the AVX and AVX2 instruction sets. Whoa that's a result Cheesy

So, armed with these and the 32 bit miner, plus the fact we now have 6 mining pools to choose from, it was time to re-write the entire support suite. I have now included all the 32 bit and 64 bit stuff in one package. The new autominer will support up to 8 mining pools and spread your hashing power among them if you want. It will auto-detect your CPU and version of Windows and select the appropriate minerd.exe for you. It has never been easier.

The new software is available now on the usual links. Please note that the 32 bit and 64 bit versions are now one and the same thing, but I have maintained all the old links for compatibility, only changing the names to protect the innocent.

self-extracting .exe (extracts to C:\XMGminer by default) https://www.dropbox.com/s/re3bp3oem4uh31w/XMGminer-Win-Setup.exe?dl=0

This last link contains only two files, Setup.bat and wget.exe. Download, extract and run Setup.bat. Simples. This new package does not over-write your Myminer.bat file, nor any minerd.exe or dlls in the installation folder. It is fully compatible with your existing Myminer.bat file and will run up just the way it did before, only better. To gain the full benefits from this release, you will need to run the Setup.bat which creates a new Myminer.bat file for you.

Now because some anti-virus software dislikes stuff like wget.exe and minerd.exe, you will probably need to disable your anti-virus temporarily to allow the installation to proceed unhindered, then add an exception in the anti-virus to ignore the mining software in future. Other than that, it ought to work like a dream.

Any problems, then please report here and I will try to advise. Don't just tell me you "get an error" - be specific or I might just ignore you Cheesy

There is a whole lot more that I should be telling you, but you don't want to read this - you want to get on and have a play with the new software don't you? Go ahead - make my day Cheesy

[Compile and run CPU miner on Mac OS]

1. Ensure Xcode and the command line tools are installed.

2. Download and Install MacPorts: http://www.macports.org/install.php

3. Install libraries
Open up app "Terminal"
Code:
sudo port selfupdate
sudo port install git openssl gmp

4. Compile minerd
Code:
git clone https://github.com/noncepool/m7magi-cpuminer-v2
cd m7magi-cpuminer-v2
./autogen.sh
./nomacro.pl
./configure CFLAGS="-O3" CXXFLAGS="-O3"
make

5. start minerd
For example, nonce-pool:
Code:
minerd -o stratum+tcp://mine2.magi.nonce-pool.com:4090 -u <username.worker> -p <password>
Suprnova pool:
Code:
minerd -o stratum+tcp://xmg.suprnova.cc:7128 -u <username.worker> -p <password>
<username.worker> and <password> should be set up in a pool.
1365  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [XMG] Coin Magi - CPU mining guide on: November 06, 2014, 06:00:08 AM
The following package is purely for simplicity. I didn't yet compare the hash rate, so it may not give you the best result, but the interface is pretty straightforward. It's not a re-compilation of the source code, but rather a collection of a few minerds, to allow one to choose from a menu. The basic running is the same as using command line parameters; I will do some optimizations later on.

Let me know if you run into any problems.

[VPS mining guide]

Register your VPS through the following referral link to support this project:
Digitalocean: https://www.digitalocean.com/?refcode=0881d086fee6
VULTR: http://www.vultr.com/?ref=6812659
Through the referral link, Digitalocean gives free credit which allows free VPS service.

This guild covers VPS setting up, compiling cpuminer and running pool or solo mining.

1) Set up a VPS server.

2) Get the login information from the email received (IP and password), typically
Code:
ssh root@IP
This is a command to ssh login the VPS. You'lll need to figure out ssh, for example, http://www.putty.org/ for windows.

3) Once login, copy and paste the following commands (you can choose different username than magi)
Code:
adduser magi
follow instructions to set up a user (only need to create password)

Code:
/usr/sbin/visudo
edit this section (add line"magi ..."):
Quote
## User privilege specification
root    ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL
magi   ALL=(ALL:ALL) ALL

4) Exit and ssh again with (i.e., regular user login rather prior root user)
Code:
ssh magi@IP

5) Upgrade and install packages:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install git screen automake build-essential libboost-all-dev libdb5.1-dev libdb5.1++-dev libminiupnpc-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libgmp-dev
(input your password if asking)

6) This is a need if you choose 512 M memory during VPS creation
Code:
sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=64M count=16
sudo mkswap /swapfile
sudo swapon /swapfile

Turn on swap permanently by adding it to the fstab file:
Code:
sudo nano /etc/fstab
 /swapfile       none    swap    sw      0       0

DON'T do the following steps unless you know what they mean:
Code:
sudo swapon -s
sudo swapoff /swapfile
sudo rm /swapfile

7) Compile cpuminer (copy and past following command)
Code:
cd
git clone https://github.com/noncepool/m7magi-cpuminer-v2
cd m7magi-cpuminer-v2
./autogen.sh
CFLAGS="-O3" ./configure
make
sudo cp minerd /usr/local/bin
(notice any errors, let me know if you stuck somewhere)

8-) Pool mining
We need put the miner a screen session so it will run even when we logout VPS:
Code:
screen -S magi
To use Nonce-pool:
Code:
minerd -o stratum+tcp://mine2.magi.nonce-pool.com:4090 -u <username> -p <password>
To use Suprnova pool:
Code:
minerd -o stratum+tcp://xmg.suprnova.cc:7128 -u <username> -p <password>
<username> and <password> are the worker and password you setup in the pool (check the pool website for info; ask me if you don't know how to set it up)
Press “CTRL+a” and then press “D” to detach from the screen session (get back to prior command line). Under regular command line you can check if the screen section is alive:
Code:
screen -ls
If you remember (i.e., magi), simply issue
Code:
screen -r magi
to back to the mining screen. You logout/login to check if the mining is still going on.
Quote
Press “CTRL+A+D”;
Code:
exit
ssh magi@IP
screen -r magi

Basically you're done pool mining!

If you interested to solo mining, please continue reading.

9) Compile and run Magi wallet
Code:
cd
git clone https://github.com/magi-project/magi
cd magi/src
make -f makefile.unix
Create a conf file which should be in the folder: ~/.magi (magi is the user we created)
(magi.conf is not necessary, unless you will sole mine; use more complicated pass as you like)
Code:
cd ~/.magi
emacs magi.conf
emacs is text edit tool, use any you like. save the following content:
Quote
daemon=1
server=1
rpcport=8232
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcuser=rpcuser
rpcpassword=rpcpass

Code:
cd ~/magi/src
./magid &
The last command runs the daemon.

10) Solo mining
Code:
./minerd --url http://127.0.0.1:8232 --user rpcuser --pass rpcpass --threads <number of threads>
8232 is rpcport, rpcuser and rpcpass are user and password you set in magi.conf
set <number of threads> to a number, matching with the threads of your needs.

The official thread of Magi (XMG) is here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.0

Coin Magi (XMG) utilizes a unique M7M algorithm that allows only CPU Mining. XMG also has at the first time implemented a particularly designed block rewarding system to enable FAIRNESS in the distribution of coins among miners. By removing the competitive nature of mining, XMG offers an even playing field for anyone looking to mine cryptocurrencies without expensive equipment.

A revised version of XMG's PoW mining algorithm (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg9230961#msg9230961) has been done recently. This algorithm utilizes iterative sequential algorithm and numerical computation operating through GMP floating points to disable parallel implement, such as using GPU.

The following covers CPU mining through VPS and miners compiled by Spexx and MarcusDe. The guides were initially posted in the OP.  Guides here are still under updating...

Coin swap died ? I do not sell my coins.  Where is the road map? I hope that the developer will be engaged in something useful.

Supposed to have polo being in swap stuffs, well they just keep us waiting, I will just go ahead to handle it this week!

Found a good way to put your graphics cards to use.

http://simplemulti.com/
Throw some x11 hash or scrypt at them with your bitcoin address and get super easy daily payouts.

I have a ASUS 270x getting 2.7Mhash x11 get about .0001 BTC a day in payouts before noon.

Have it linked right to my cryptoine bitcoin wallet (since I'm extra lazy but not recommended) so every day I go buy an extra load of xmg on top of the coin I can mine directly.

Hope this helps someone better utilize their hardware to buy magi.  Cheesy

Nice support, evilmuffinman. Just upfront info, we will get our multipool support so that all the process will be automaticaly done, aka, scrypt/x11 mining with XMG payout. Smiley

09/19: Proposal of block reward adjustment to depress difficulty

Initial design

We have to go back to review the initial design.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg8755719#msg8755719

Quote
Predicted consequence is fair distribution, avoiding big mining farms and maintaining the network hash under a certain level (unlike BTC network keep increasing). It will frustrate mining farms (if existed) when network hashrate is so high that the mining rewarding is at the decline side. Mining XMG is less profitable compared to mining others; only belivers keeping mining will receive the most out of it. Same frustration applies to GPU miners if they existed.

According the above image, sorry for big miners, my initial thinking is to exclude the (personal) big hash as much as possible. Since we are initially based on M7, GPU mining is allowed at that time. The situation I am trying to avoid is the GPU farm, that is the reason of using diff-dependent rewards. As to M7M, allowing big hash in network means allowing GPU miners too if they exist. I do believe CPU miners (even with farms) would hate to see GPU farms online, same applied to individual CPU miners. This initial direction must be complied.

Issues

Network hash keeps increasing; we haven't see the arrival of rewarding peak yet while we already noticed the coming of big miners;

Current mining status in two pools:
Quote
Suprnova Workers: 244
Nonce-Pool Active Workers: 183
total works: 427
Total network hash is about 105 MHps.

It would be conclusive that individual miners have reached saturation, further increase in hash is mostly due to big miners. We haven't got into the 500 XMG/block stage. Provided the general user base won't grow (most likely), what do we expect once net hash hitting a point where gets 500 XMG/block?

Solutions

1) We intend to get 500 XMG/block into the net, but conditional

2) This is the idea; let's say we have three mining groups

Quote
Group A - CPU individual miners
Group B - CPU farms
Group C - GPU miners & farms

Though we may expect nonexisting of GPU miners, we can't exclude the possibility (individual). This must be taken care of.

The most importance of this solution is to maintain the #A:
a. Mining hash of #A must remain the same or above during the lifetime of mining.
b. Moving the optimum diff to a point where the net hash equals to the hash of #A; optimum diff is where we get maximum rewards.

It will be clear that with the arrival of #B, #A+#B leads to less rewards; Both #A and #B suffers low rewarding. #A is a faith miner and never go way in spite of zero reward or 500 XMG, and what happened to #B. #A is a set of many individual miners; for one who mines with 1 cpu, it won't be much loss if nothing coming out in one or two days (in an extreme case, we can assume at #A+#B rewards is zero). But for #B, since #B is a big farm and running costly, it won't be acceptable for them to mine without any return. We can image the same thing for #A+#B+#C. Obviously, the only way of getting rewards for #B or #C is to lower their hashing power, so that the block rewards are available for mining; it may get them to the same hashing level as #A.

If we can go this way, we will will need to select optimum diff and reward-diff pattern. The standard can rely on the mining history so far.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Please suggest if this is the way we can go.

09/21: Random IRC talk regarding the new block rewarding system
http://cryptomagic.com/files/misc/irc-log-09-21.txt

7:47 PM <@joelao95> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=735170.msg8919002#msg8919002
7:47 PM <@joelao95> check this post about block rewards
7:47 PM <@joelao95> all please hold one
7:47 PM <@joelao95> *hold on
7:48 PM <@joelao95> let's push all big miners out of the scene
7:48 PM <@joelao95> then all of you will get rewarded with 300 XMG/block
7:49 PM <@joelao95> bojcha, how many coins you got before and now
7:50 PM <@joelao95> yes, the optimum has is calculated based on individual miners
7:51 PM <@joelao95> we supposed to get 300XMG at 40 MH/s
7:51 PM <@joelao95> hi paul
7:51 PM <@joelao95> let's say one cpu get 50 kh/s - 100 kh/s
7:52 PM <@joelao95> no problem, that's fine
7:52 PM <@joelao95> so 40 MH/s means 400 - 800 cpus
7:53 PM <@joelao95> if individual miners remain 40MHs, there is no miners with higher hash or gpu miners will get profits
7:54 PM <@joelao95> the key is that  individual miners  must keep mining
7:54 PM <@joelao95> paul, yea, that's the issue too
7:54 PM <@joelao95> bojcha Smiley haha
7:55 PM <@joelao95> ok, let me ask you
7:56 PM <@joelao95> if we have 300 XMG/block, and the reward won't reduce at higher hash; regarding the situation we had, there are few miners with 10Mh/s above, would that make you stop mining
7:57 PM <@joelao95> even worse, we've see network hash keep rising, and there is a concern of gpu miners, we could see many more 10Mh/s miners
7:57 PM <@joelao95> will that make you stop mining
7:57 PM <@joelao95> we have no chance at all in that situation
7:58 PM <@joelao95> am I right, or missed something, correct me
7:59 PM <@joelao95> paul, the issue is that situation just make things bad
8:00 PM <@joelao95> if someone has 100 vps
8:00 PM <@joelao95> there will be others have 200 vps, 300 vps etc,
8:00 PM <@joelao95> never stop
8:00 PM <@joelao95> BTC is an example
8:01 PM <@joelao95> ok this is the situation with small miners i would expect, say each person can only mine with 50kh/s , there will many many people join in the mining part
8:02 PM <@joelao95> but, if there are few 10MHs, could be like this, 1000miners + 10MHs miners
8:02 PM <@joelao95> what if there is a 1GHs miner, could be like this 100 miners + 1 GHs miner
8:03 PM <@joelao95> not like that; but I rather put limitation for one who just keep increasing his power hash
8:04 PM <@joelao95> let say you rent two vps, you will get twice pay
8:04 PM <@joelao95> three vps, three times
8:04 PM <@joelao95> but you rent 1000 vps, then, won't be 1000 times pay
8:05 PM <@joelao95> there is a point, go beyond that people will get loss
8:06 PM <@joelao95> yea, so this is risky
8:06 PM <@joelao95> there is price to maintain this
8:07 PM <@joelao95> paul, the situation is if we don't put this limitation, I suspect there is gpu miners soon,
8:07 PM <@joelao95> XMG will die soon or later
8:07 PM <@joelao95> at least the current situation (few 10Mh/s) already freak out miners
8:08 PM <@joelao95> I don't think of any new algo could really resist gpu
8:08 PM <@joelao95> though I don't M7M
8:08 PM <@joelao95> no confirmation
8:09 PM <@joelao95> but new algo just create hidden miners people suspect GPU miners
8:09 PM <@joelao95> that's a FUD
8:10 PM <@joelao95> this is pain
8:10 PM <@joelao95> any pain we will go though this stage and then enter PoS
8:11 PM <@joelao95> *anyway
8:11 PM <@joelao95> I showed this idea to Hix and itod
8:12 PM <@joelao95> they though this quite innovative, though there are unknown things. but deserve try out
8:16 PM <@joelao95> will closely keep an eye on the nethash and block rewards
8:22 PM <@joelao95> anyway, paul, this type of block rewards is designed from the beginning, not just because I've seen the situation now and changed my mined; what changed now is better to fit this algo

09/21: MagiPub: the new block rewarding system explained - A network-dependent rewarding system: proof-of-mining
1. MagiPublication

I've managed our first publication in the academic level, currently submitted to arXiv.org e-prints:

A network-dependent rewarding system: proof-of-mining

Raising up this effort has dual purposes. We've experimented a few new features in Magi in my expectation at this coin going towards a direction never achieved or attempted before. We are kinda researching something and such efforts should be recorded and published if possible. XMG does benefit a lot from either suspect & complaining voices or from positive comments in the thread. With many back and forth discussions, we seem like going toward a solid direction now. If XMG cannot achieve whatever it's supposed to be, subsequent coins might go stepping ahead of us by benefiting from the publications.

I, myself, was working in the research field (credit: RG score more than 29 based on ResearchGate). I like to think and ask. I have been kinda addicted to the cryptocurrency since last Dec, and have thought about a lot over the time. I don't want point out for whatever reason I am doing this, this coin is just on the track, and I am not just joking in making a random coin, but rather seriously take it in the long run. I won't object to the argument of pump and dump (just meaningless wording arguing). If I did wrong the coin, correct me; I am very like to hear different voices. Back to the topic, publishing papers on XMG will obviously place XMG into a more broader audience, just imaging how many people will read the publication.

2. New block rewards explained

We were missing a full description of the new rewarding system: A network-dependent rewarding system: proof-of-mining.

(a) -  our initial design; (b) - the actual implementation in the M7M algo.

Ads. (anyone can get a better ads or image based on this idea, shoot me a PM)

1000 people mining BTC/LTC with their CPU (assume 50Kh/s) only get negligible rewards; however, mining XMG yields 144 coin/day/person.

Current mining situation

Miners should be aware of the current low block rewards (5 XMG/block typically) is because of the overtuning of the rewarding system; that is, we are at III of figure (b), rather than I. This is important; big miners might need to lower their hashrate a little bit, so that the reward will be back to maximum (at I).

Deep explanation

We have explained the rising part in the initial design: the system allocates more rewards to the network having more miners. However, simply increasing reward will drive miners towards building more powerful equipment. The relationship between mining costs and returns in consistence with economics should be the guideline to achieve the goal. We assume this is valid. For example, one who has powerful equipment and hence high cost as well will expect commensurate returns; otherwise, the cost must be reduced by reducing the usage of equipment.

The efficiency of discouraging mining activities is fully determined how fast the rewards decline with difficulty (at the high difficulty range). It should be noted that self-adjustment of network difficulty in accordance with rewards is affected by both the reward declining rate and the market place of the cryptocurrency. One can build up more powerful equipment to compensate the declining rewards. A much faster declining rate will disable any possibility of acquiring desired rewards by simply building more hashing power. Fig. (b) shows an improved rewarding system as implemented in XMG, by incorporating a cut-off function. The maximum block reward is available at Diff = 1.75 (I) (or ∼ 40 MHash/s). The reward is halved when Diff = 2.20 (or ∼ 51 MHash/s) (II), and equals to 1/10 of the maximum value at Diff = 2.37 (or ∼ 55 MHash/s), at which the low rewards will be lack of incentive to the miners.

Does the new rewarding system work?

The short answer is yes. Let's take a look at the pool status before and after the hard fork (new reward):

BEFORE (nonce-pool and suprnova, respectively)

AFTER

Summary
============================================================
Network hash ratiobig miner weight (>5 MH/s)
Before (at block=2660)115 MH/s47.5 %
After (at block=5682)83 MH/s38.4 %
============================================================
The big miners did have been depressed to a certain level; we will carry out proof-of-mining campaign to help this further.

Proof-of-mining

One may expect the market place will affect the miners’ behavior significantly. For example, the high-pricing reward leads more miners into the network which immediately move the block reward out of the maximum region. This initiates a self-adjustment of the rewarding system. Realizing the marginal rewards (e.g., at III of Fig. (b)), some of the miners start ceasing their minings, thus pushing the reward back to the maximum. In this case, it will be relatively less advantageous for miners quickly in and out the mining activity. One will need to show a proof of mining in order to gain sufficient credits to declare the rewards. The new system emphasizes the participation of miners instead of their hashing power.

Another look - difficulty vs time

It's clear that diff is nearly constant between 09/18 and 09/21, while it declines after 09/21 when hard fork happened.

Currently over 530 active miners.

1. A network-dependent rewarding system: proof-of-mining (http://arxiv.org/abs/1409.7948)
A soft control of the network activity through varying reward in a proof-of-work (PoW) cryptocurrency is reported. Rewards are the necessity to incent the contributors activities (i.e., mining) in order to maintain the PoW network. Contrary to constant rewarding in a certain period implemented in most of cryptocurrency, such as bitcoin, we propose a network-dependent rewarding model system, primarily including two phases: 1) activities encouraging phase in which higher rewards are issued at higher network activities; and 2) discouraging further increase of activities by reducing rewards. The advantages of this system include 1) fair distribution of rewards among a variety of contributors, and 2) enforcing a limit to the network activity and hence the cost of maintaining the PoW network. This mechanism requires network contributors to show their participation in order to earn maximum rewards, i.e., proof-of-mining.

Hey Folks,

We now have a working paper wallet generator. I've used the source from walletgenerator.net and modified their code
to work with magi. Now we have the ability to cold store our coins or the ability to give away an offline wallet with some magicoins on it to a friend.

The wallet has been tested by my and joelao95, we both have used the generator to get an public and privet key, sent a small amount of xmg to that address. Then after the coins where sent we imported the private key and then received our amount of xmg sent to that address.

Please be sure to test it before you use it, send a small amount of xmg to a generated address and the import the private key.

How to import the private key to your wallet

Open help and choose, in debug go to the tab Console and type importprivkey <Your newly generated private key>

The response should look like this if successful

In the image above I use a working key that has been generated with this tool just for this example.

If you get any other response for ex. Invalid private key (code -5), this would mean that the generated private key is invalid.

The paper wallet generator has been created to work completely disconnected from internet.

The recommended way to create a wallet that is going to be used as cold storage is to download the zip file, link to zip, to a clean system, disconnect from the internet, generate the an address and then print the wallet so you have both the public and private key.
Do not use print to PDF or take a screenshot and save it on the computer. Keep the printed paper wallet safe, if you loose your private key your coins will be lost and there is no way the get them back.

Url to Magi Paper Wallet Generator http://paperwallet.coinmagi.org/

Please note that nor I (ex33s) or joelao95 can guarantee that the generated keys are 100% correct. All keys generated during the test have been working perfectly. With this is mind, we can not leave any warranty or guarantee that you will get a working pair of keys from the wallet generator.

Many thanks to joelao95 for letting my use one of his subdomain for this wallet.
Also many thanks to guys developing http://walletgenerator.net/ wich is the base for our paper wallet generator.

Happy cold storing your coins! Smiley

Just a little bump on this one.
Thanks ex33s, well done!

The links for the miner software seem to have disappeared from the OP. Oops Smiley Here is a comprehensive list for my Windows versions.

was cleaning up the OP; had a link now, also will get a separate thread for mining guides. Smiley

I updated wallet to v1.1.0.2-magi-tor, found the wallet can not be synchronized, and I want to know how to solve
Dev or someone can you help this member with this problem?
No help. That wallet does not work!
