I like the idea of a subforum. It might be a pity to lose the sticky link at the top of Bitcoin Discussion though.
Hopefully the originator of the press thread, jgarzik, can weigh in and tip this in one direction or another.

Any word on when we can expect to see them on cablesaurus, and what cooler they'll offer as stock (the zalman one?)?
Well I can *see* the heatsinkless board on cablesaurus again now. It even says "In Stock"... but when I go to buy it, it says: "Products marked with *** are not available in the desired quantity or not in stock!" (desired quantity 1 or 10 - doesn't seem to make a difference) Stop teasing, Cablesaurus!

I quite like the idea of a press subforum.. although the nice thing about a single thread is that people can get an alert for each hit. Still.. with the inevitable discussion posts that sneak into the press hits thread, the notifications are perhaps not that useful anyway. Time to push this idea in the Meta subforum? edit: oh.. It's already being talked about there. Good. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=67884.0

How do you print the public key on the sticker? Can each sticker be customized as to guarantee the customer where it came from?
For example, Let's say I made my own paper currency and used these stickers to secure the private keys. Then my currency takes off because everyone trust that I, the issuer, is honest and will not still still any bit coins; however, the con on the internet sees an opportunity to steal some coins and duplicates my stickers and currency.
Do these holographic stickers have a solution to this? Maybe the only way is to spend the money to buy my very own stickers like casascius did.
I am interested to put $500 dollars towards the project to help get it off the ground.
My understanding is that there is a windowed section in the sticker so the public key can show through. (lasered in at the same time as your custom text I think ?)

I've only committed to 1 share - but will go in for more if we're close.

OK then, another Q&A item:
Q: Will I get my $2250.- deposit refunded if I am not able to get the initial reduced offer price?
^this I've already seen it said that over 30 orders have been taken. If you are sure of being able to raise $15K but not sure of $30K - you'd be crazy to order.

More and more people are travellers. The globality of bitcoin will win people over (eventually).

Virtual Currencies, Online Transactions, and the Future of Cash Marco Rabinowitz 2012-03-11 http://www.benzinga.com/general/entrepreneurship/12/03/2413495/virtual-currencies-online-transactions-and-the-future-of-cashI have some reservations regarding Bitcoin owing to historical trends and speculation with the virtual currency. At one point, one Bitcoin was worth as much as $33 and fell to $3 in a matter of months. Some have suggested that Bitcoins may contribute to money laundering and/or illegal transactions. It would appear that there are formidable obstacles (in terms of value and reputation) in the path of Bitcoin's becoming the digital/virtual "gold standard" currency of the future. Bizarrely.. this author states: I could see a digital currency coming about based out of a website like Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) or Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) that could take the lead in becoming a "gold standard" with respect to online transactions that deal in virtual currencies.
The irony of using the term "gold standard" in reference to a centralized system run by a corporation clearly escapes him.

Cablesaurus.com is our distributor, so that we can focus on working with FPGAs instead of USPS. Cablesaurus appears to be doing a terrible job, as the X6500 does not appear to be listed on their website, and the link on fpgamining.com just takes you directly to cablesaurus.com. Yeah.. Even when the X6500s were listed and showing as 'out of stock' - you couldn't put in a pre-order. They've surely lost out on a few impulse buys that way.

It's obvious that so much work has gone into building this system. I'm really impressed with it. All it's lacking is the punters!
strikesapphire has shown some real commitment and enthusiasm for bitcoin - c'mon bitcoiners - give 'em some lovin!
(Disclaimer: I have no affiliation whatsoever with strikesapphire - and I'm a shit poker player)

Given that an individual's bitcoin wealth could be spread among numerous addresses, and also that numerous individual's bitcoin wealth could be pooled in single addresses (e.g cold storage wallet of an exchange or other service).. I don't see how one could glean any real insight into the wealth distribution by examining the blockchain.

The May Scale of Money Hardness and BitCoin http://stakeventures.com/articles/2012/03/07/the-may-scale-of-money-hardness-and-bitcoinThis tickles me. When talking about Bitcoin with people who are unfamiliar with it, the obvious comparisons to other digital currencies and value transfer systems come up. It may seem like a minor point of terminology - but to refer to bitcoin as a 'hard' money due to it being irreversable and unconfiscable versus 'soft' molestable systems like Paypal is a good way of emphasizing the distinction. People understand the 'hardness' of cash - so it makes sense to apply it to bitcoin in this sense. Perhaps this little bit of spin terminology has come up before - but it escaped me! edit: indeed, when I search for 'hard money' and bitcoin it does come up. Well - it seems like a meme worth spreading. As pointed out by someone in the comments of the article, 'hardness' is already ranked against various payment methods on the bitcoin wiki: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Payment_methods

A small blog from a tech/finance geek - but the topic of this post struck me as notable. Presumably the 'may scale of money hardness' is a play on the geological scale: 'Mohs scale of mineral hardness'. Cool concept to apply to money and reversability! (I like the idea of bitcoin being 'hard' money. Fits right in with 'mining' it too) The May Scale of Money Hardness and BitCoin Pelle Braendgaard 2012-03-08 http://stakeventures.com/articles/2012/03/07/the-may-scale-of-money-hardness-and-bitcoinAbout 10 years ago after a bunch of E-Gold exchangers lost money from fraudulent purchasers performing chargebacks Start e-gold app developer JP May published his May Scale of Money Hardness (only on wayback machine now). The idea is that the easier it is for a payment to be reversed, the softer it is. I’m trying to update it for 2012 so the next generation of financial startups don’t get burnt more than they already have been and learn the lessons learnt by the e-gold community. ... Actually I'm really quite enthused about this terminology. I think in discussions with the bitcoin-agnostics I'll make a point of referring to bitcoin as a 'hard' digital currency due to it being non-reversable and non-tamperable by intermediaries - compared to 'soft' digital systems like Dwolla and Paypal. I would have thought little of it if it was only on hxtop (nothing against hxtop - but it's a bitcoin-specific site) - but it does appear to be on sina.com.cn which is a major site. http://tech.sina.com.cn/h/2012-03-08/05012056255.shtmlWas this article originally by you on hxtop - and then tech.sina.com.cn just picked it up.. or did you submit it to them somehow?

Bitcoin: Crypto-Anarchism and the Digital Money Revolution Michael Suede 2012-03-07 http://www.policymic.com/articles/4980/bitcoin-crypto-anarchism-and-the-digital-money-revolutionImagine if we lived in a world where your bank accounts could never be audited, seized or controlled by the state. Imagine if the currency system itself made organized theft impossible. In the future, I predict this is precisely how currency systems will operate. While this may sound like a bold claim, economic analysis demonstrates why my prediction may become reality. ...
