I like the idea of a subforum.
It might be a pity to lose the sticky link at the top of Bitcoin Discussion though.
Hopefully the originator of the press thread, jgarzik, can weigh in and tip this in one direction or another.

Any word on when we can expect to see them on cablesaurus, and what cooler they'll offer as stock (the zalman one?)?
Well I can *see* the heatsinkless board on cablesaurus again now. It even says "In Stock"... but when I go to buy it, it says: "Products marked with *** are not available in the desired quantity or not in stock!" (desired quantity 1 or 10 - doesn't seem to make a difference) Stop teasing, Cablesaurus! |

I quite like the idea of a press subforum.. although the nice thing about a single thread is that people can get an alert for each hit. Still.. with the inevitable discussion posts that sneak into the press hits thread, the notifications are perhaps not that useful anyway. Time to push this idea in the Meta subforum? edit: oh.. How do you print the public key on the sticker?
Can each sticker be customized as to guarantee the customer where it came from?
For example, Let's say I made my own paper currency and used these stickers to secure the private keys.
Then my currency takes off because everyone trust that I, the issuer, is honest and will not still still
any bit coins; however, the con on the internet sees an opportunity to steal some coins and duplicates my stickers and currency.
Do these holographic stickers have a solution to this?
Maybe the only way is to spend the money to buy my very own stickers like casascius did.
I am interested to put $500 dollars towards the project to help get it off the ground.
My understanding is that there is a windowed section in the sticker so the public key can show through. (lasered in at the same time as your custom text I think ?) |

^this I've already seen it said that over 30 orders have been taken. If you are sure of being able to raise $15K but not sure of $30K - you'd be crazy to order. |

Cablesaurus.com is our distributor, so that we can focus on working with FPGAs instead of USPS.  Cablesaurus appears to be doing a terrible job, as the X6500 does not appear to be listed on their website, and the link on fpgamining.com just takes you directly to cablesaurus.com. Yeah.. Even when the X6500s were listed and showing as 'out of stock' - you couldn't put in a pre-order. They've surely lost out on a few impulse buys that way. |

Given that an individual's bitcoin wealth could be spread among numerous addresses, and also that numerous individual's bitcoin wealth could be pooled in single addresses (e.g cold storage wallet of an exchange or other service).. I don't see how one could glean any real insight into the wealth distribution by examining the blockchain.

When talking about Bitcoin with people who are unfamiliar with it, the obvious comparisons to other digital currencies and value transfer systems come up. It may seem like a minor point of terminology - but to refer to bitcoin as a 'hard' money due to it being irreversable and unconfiscable versus 'soft' molestable systems like Paypal is a good way of emphasizing the distinction. People understand the 'hardness' of cash - so it makes sense to apply it to bitcoin in this sense. Perhaps this little bit of spin terminology has come up before - but it escaped me! edit: indeed, when I search for 'hard money' and bitcoin it does come up. Well - it seems like a meme worth spreading. Presumably the 'may scale of money hardness' is a play on the geological scale: 'Mohs scale of mineral hardness'. Cool concept to apply to money and reversability!
