141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Solana - worth it in 2024? on: April 12, 2024, 03:52:15 PM
Recently I dived more and more into the solana altcoin and I wondered wheter it is too late to jump into it or not?
You have to DYOR, people who are hodling Solana would prolly tell you to buy the coin, so you should not depend on information you get from others, but that which you got through your own research. I don't own any Solana, but i usually see their users complaining of bugs and "transaction failures" in the network, i don't know for sure how bad it is, but if they are constantly faced with problems like this, then their network might not be sustainable for the long term.
142  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: E no resemble local board. on: April 11, 2024, 10:41:54 PM
I think say we don bury this discussion about either using pidgin or English, either as post subject or content of our post for this local board. I dey use the two of them, e dey depend on wetin i wan talk and on my mood at the time of making the post, both English and Pidgin is allowed, and you fit even mix the two of dem for one post, just as i am doing now.

Why are you concerned about wetin non-Nigerians go think when they visit our local board, check the Indian local board, na posts for English language full there, because English follow for language wey dem dey speak well well for their country, just like in ours. So make we just die this matter, na quality posts matter, be it in English or in Pidgin.
143  Other / Meta / Re: Option to Allow / Restrict merits on the OP Posts on: April 11, 2024, 09:55:20 PM
This isn't something Theymos is ever going to implement, i think every suggestion should actually solve a particular problem in the forum and this suggestion of yours does not actually solve any problem. Implementing something that nearly "nobody" is going to use doesn't make too much sense to me and that effort can be put into something else.
144  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: You will lose more if you DCA without knowledge on: April 11, 2024, 09:04:36 PM
DCA can still be the worst for a newbies,  so I say newbies should stay away from DCA until they have the knowledge of the risk and approach to DCA.
I don't know how you have come up with this, but it is flat-out wrong, DCA is the best strategy for newbies and it helps to minimize the risk of trying to game the movement of market and also the risk of price volatility. There is no "special" knowledge needed to use DCA strategy and i cannot see any major risks for people who use it, i always advise newbies to use DCA strategy to purchase Bitcoin, instead of making lump sum purchases.
145  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When is alt season likely to be? on: April 10, 2024, 11:01:09 PM
I am currently 100% in altcoins and wondering when we can expect the next big alt season?

I plan to hold all my altcoins till this alt season when alt coins are performing better than Bitcoin and then start putting profits into Bitcoin.
Goodluck with your strategy, altcoins usually follow Bitcoin's price movement, so i think altcoin season should be when Bitcoin starts pumping very high, then some altcoins can start rising fast and very high too. Having said that, nothing is set in stone and things can happen differently, if i were you i would buy Bitcoin now, altcoins are too risky and waiting on profits from altcoins to put in Bitcoin is something that is unlikely to happen, because you might not make any profits from your altcoins.
146  Local / Off-topic (Naija) / Re: Our dictators with their false alarms just for self enrichments. on: April 10, 2024, 10:17:04 PM
Nigeria Will Pay For It, Naira Will Crash If Foreign Airlines Succeed In Their Plan Against Air Peace – Onyema Raises Alarm
I laughed over this because it's not different from other course strategies of inflating fears and unrealistic fact to the people all just to gain more grounds for more riches to himself.
I no really understand you here, Air Peace chairman no be politician na, he is a businessman and na big win for Naija say Air Peace don dey travel from Naija to the U.K. Wetin Allen Onyema dey ask for na support from the government, and for other Nigerian airlines to also join the international route. If you recall, as dem start their flight from Naija to the U.K, they were faced with many challenges, allegedly created by the foreign airlines wey no dey happy with Air Peace's involvement in international flight, thus crashing the price, they wanted to continue extorting Nigerians, with the "support" they are getting from some high and mighty people in positions of authority and their governments too.

We suppose dey support Nigerian businesses wey show genuine effort to offer good services at affordable price, i agree with Allen, if dem lose this "fight" with these foreign airlines, e go affect Nigerians and the Naira.
147  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price history during Eid al-Fitr on: April 10, 2024, 06:05:31 PM
Every year during this Eid-ul-Fitr Eid celebration, the price of Bitcoin increased a lot.
Are you sure about that? There is no connection between Bitcoin price and the Eid celebration, i know people like to look for connections in everything, "Bitcoin price rose because of this or fell because of that", i know that it is events that influence the price of Bitcoin, but historically the Eid celebration has never been one to concern the price of Bitcoin.
148  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Risk of import wallet seed to a new web wallet, to chase airdrop on: April 10, 2024, 05:37:31 PM
Having an offline wallet is very crucial, if you wallet is offline the keys will be completely far away from the internet and it becomes impossible to fall victim to this type of scam.

With majority of your funds offline, you can now have an online wallet and as many "burner" wallets as possible, these you would use for airdrops or connecting to untrusted websites, because you do not really have anything to lose in them. People who deal with airdrops, DeFi and even altcoins generally, take a lot of risk with things like these and staking too and fake projects as well, thus they lose quite a lot of money in the process.
149  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How I almost become a millionaire on: April 10, 2024, 02:10:43 PM
You got to know about Bitcoin in 2010 and you thought it was a scam, it was okay to think like that during the early years of Bitcoin, but 2010 is such a long time ago, and if you still haven't bought Bitcoin until now, then i guess you are still not interested and hence no need for this post.

Bitcoin is not a get rich quick scheme, so do not think that buying Bitcoin automatically means you become rich, many people who bought or mined Bitcoin's in its early years, sold it very early and did not make as much ROI as you think. Thus if you are interested in Bitcoin, learn more about it before you get involved.
150  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: For beginners: Create a Bitcoin wallet securely and privately on: April 09, 2024, 10:22:31 PM
Also if you have your watch watch only wallet which is harmless because public key cannot be used to access your wallet even if it is compromised. You can still create an unsigned transaction using watch only wallet.
If your watch-only wallet is connected to a third party node, then you're as well exposing your IP and your Bitcoin address to a third party node that you don't know who controls. If you must tell people to avoid using block explorers because of privacy reasons, you must also advise them to connect their wallets to only their own node, if not they do not still gain any privacy.
151  Economy / Economics / Re: Accepting Bitcoin for paying tax on: April 09, 2024, 09:36:42 PM
Switzerland is a country that is friendly to crypto, so no surprise to see what the city of Lugano has implemented regarding accepting payment for tax and community fees in Bitcoin and USDT. That being said, i don't know if i'd want to pay my tax in Bitcoin when i can just do that with fiat, IMO, i'd prefer to spend Bitcoin on certain goods/commodities in a store around me or online, rather than paying taxes with it.
152  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Government demanding from Binance the lists of its Nigerian users on: April 09, 2024, 04:29:23 PM
There are also rumours that he has been sent to Kuje Prison, a prison known to hold high-level criminals in the country, and he is said to be detained there till further notice.
The way our government they handle this matter no make sense at all, this is violation of human rights and the charges they have is against Binance and not this individual. Binance don already talk say this man no dey in any decision making position of the exchange, so what is the sense in hodling him back in Nigeria for many weeks now.

That being said, transferring him to Kuje prison is just flat-out crazy (if true), this man came into Nigeria of his own accord, he was not compelled or forced to come into the country, reports have it that they came for negotiations with the government, if we didn't want to negotiate, we should have just turned it down and allowed them return to their country. This whole saga has put Nigeria on the spotlight, but for the wrong reasons as usual.
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Stablecoins or Fiat? on: April 09, 2024, 03:57:50 PM
I think in time people will switch to cryptocurrency, so I am already preparing for it and keep money in TFS, plus you can also staking tokens and make money on it. So definitely crypto has more advantage over fiat.
You think people will switch from fiat to stablecoins? No chance for citizens of countries that use "healthy" currencies like the U.S dollar, Pounds, etc. Prolly people from third world countries who have shit currencies that is greatly affected by inflation and hyper inflation, they might decide to use USDT that is pegged to the U.S dollar.

That being said, USDT is very risky, it is centralized just like fiat currencies, but the institution that issues it is far less trusted than central banks that print fiat currencies. Stablecoins could be depegged and people who hodl it can lose their money in the twinkle of an eye, but fiat currencies stored in the bank is at least insured up to a certain amount.
154  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Be careful about some messages to your DM on: April 09, 2024, 02:15:20 PM
I hope you didn't try to hold a conversation in the least or if you did, the best sign if he's a scammer will be when he uses the lure of what you stand to earn, after you do few tasks for him, and such task might entail you divulge personal information without much thought.
If you read some previous responses, you'd understand that the sender of that message isn't actually a scammer and i don't think he would have pulled a fast one on OP even if he held a conversation with the sender. It was just someone who was confused about what was happening in the forum with "merits" on April 1st. That being said, it is obviously good to be sceptical about unsolicited PM's and take many of them as a scam, until proven otherwise, especially when coming from a user that is not reputable or one you are not familiar with.

156  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Football Transfers Speculation, Odds and Predictions on: April 07, 2024, 04:44:51 PM
I feel like the value of Rodrygo should not be 100+ million as well, that seems a bit excessive, just because Real can spend a lot because they have a lot of money, doesn't mean that other teams are willing to spend that much either.
Are there any rumors that Real Madrid want to sell Rodrygo? I have not seen anything like that, i believe he is happy in Real Madrid and the club is also happy with him. Of course Mbappe is joining the team pretty soon and there would be strong competition for a starting place in the team, but i don't think it is something Rodrygo should be worried about, he basically has to keep his head down and keep doing his job and then see what happens.

As for his value, it should be nothing close to £100m, he does not have the quality to be worth that much, but these days anything is possible in the transfer market, just take a look at how much Chelsea signed players like Caicedo, Enzo, etc, nowadays clubs just place outrageous amounts on their players in the hope that they would get a team which would sign them.
157  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: April 07, 2024, 02:29:11 PM
This is going to be a tough match because Manchester United will be the host, Manchester United will no like to live this opportunity, i have confidence in them that they can do better this time around.
Manchester United are very erratic, so it is very difficult for me to have any sort of confidence in them, they are in a very tight top four race and i have a feeling that it would be impossible for them to make top four if they lose this game. Liverpool know what is at stake, win and go back to the summit of the league, City and Arsenal fans will be watching this game, and definitely cheering for United to win. Kick-off is a few minutes away, time to grab my popcorn for this cracker.
158  Economy / Economics / Re: "Various aspects of Bitcoin and crypto economics" on: April 07, 2024, 01:27:19 PM
To defend our finance, wealth, we have to avoid banks, use money to invest. No better investment asset than Bitcoin.
Due to inflation, it might not be wise to keep all our money in the bank, nobody ever became rich by keeping their money in the bank, they invest it and the money works for them. But the thing is, we cannot completely avoid the bank, neither can we invest too much money into Bitcoin because of its risks. Generally i don't think Bitcoin is the best investment one can get into, there's real estate, stocks, bonds, etc, some are less risky with low ROI, but i think it is essential for one not to invest in too many risky assets.
159  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2 cold wallets for my crypto assets on: April 07, 2024, 12:29:40 PM
1. If your cold wallet is offline 99% of the time does that mean that if/when offline it cannot be hacked?
If it is offline and isn't connected to the internet, it cannot be hacked. Having said that, if it is offline 99% of the time, and online for only 1% of the time, then there is a chance it can be hacked, in other words, your cold wallet must never be connected to the internet.
2. Those who read this question please let me know which cold wallet you would choose if you were me with the knowledge you have today?
Choose a hardware wallet:
Open source hardware wallet
Airgapped hardware wallet
3. Why open source cold wallet is better than none open source wallets?
In open source wallets you can check/review the original code by yourself and make sure it is safe for use, in closed source wallets you have to depend on or trust the developers because you cannot review the original code.
160  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tips for Bitcointalk Newcomers on: April 07, 2024, 12:09:16 PM
You've been a member of this forum for over four years now, though you have been inactive for sometime, but you have only earned 1 merit. Thus i think you should leave tips and guides like this for users who have earned a lot of merits and are somewhat reputable. Personally i don't think it makes sense for newbies to be giving tips/guides to other newbies.
