1601  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 23, 2021, 11:32:58 AM
It is surprising to see the England bowlers failing continuously against the Indian lower order batsmen. During the test series they struggled against Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin. And this time they are having issues against Krunal Pandya. Sam Curran in particular looked clueless out there. He bowled well during the first 8 overs, but then conceded too many runs in the last two.
1602  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar - UEFA Qualifiers on: March 23, 2021, 08:17:25 AM
^^^^ This is something that FIFA would like to sweep under the carpet. Thousands of poor workers (mostly from South Asia) have died during the construction of the world cup stadiums and most of them were paid measly compensation of $10,000 or even lower. Imagine this, $10K for a human life! On average, the workers were paid around $10 per day, for 12 hour shifts ($0.80 per hour). And as some of the articles mention, many of the works didn't even received this amount as well.
1603  Economy / Economics / Re: Biden planning first tax hike(major) since 1993 on: March 23, 2021, 07:59:48 AM
I don't know what to say about this tax thingies but if I may ask you about paying more taxes if you know that the taxes are going to be used on things that will help other people like increase in minimum wages, housing loans for minorities, and other social issues, do you think that you are going to pay that taxes. Because for me, I am willing to pay more taxes if I know that it isn't going to be wasted on military spending and the taxes goes where it is really needed.

If the government wants to help poor people, then they should scale down on wasteful expenses. Biden has splurged hundreds of billions of USD on groups that explicitly support him, such as the teachers unions. In fact a majority of the $1.9 trillion stimulus is earmarked for such unions and failed inner city areas, which are predominantly Democrat leaning. Taxing people at a rate of 50% or 60% is insane. If you are fine with it, then go ahead and pay your taxes, but don't expect others to be silent.
1604  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ODI cricket and general cricketing discussion [self - mod] on: March 23, 2021, 07:48:23 AM
As expected, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul has been included in the playing XI. Now I am certain that the younger Indian players don't have any chance under the Kohli/Shastri regime. Why these two are included in the XI, despite so many failures? On the other hand, Ishan Kishan was dropped after just one failure. Anyway, as long as India wins the series, no one is going to complain. And perhaps that is the reason why Kohli is acting so arrogantly.
1605  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BUSD Vs. USDT on: March 22, 2021, 07:44:25 PM
So essentially the question is which exchange is more trustworthy as far as stablecoins are concerned. Binance or Bitfinex? My choice is obviously Binance, since it is the largest cryptocurrency exchange. Also, Binance has stayed out of legal issues with the authorities and so far the hackers haven't been able to target that exchange. On the other hand, Bitfinex is still engaged in some sort of legal battle with the NYAG.
1606  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 22, 2021, 07:25:59 PM
Yuvi, Pathan, Sehwag and Sachin were hitting the ball well along with the rest of the players as well and they can be competitive and there is no doubt regarding that. Not sure whether these retired players kept of practicing even after retirement but as long as you have your reflexes and eyesight they will play brilliant knocks if the bowling lineup is weak.

I am not sure about Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, but the other two (Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj Singh) were playing regular cricket and they were even part of various franchise T20 leagues. Irfan Pathan was a part of the Kandy Tuskers squad for the Lanka Premier League 2020. Yuvraj was involved in multiple franchise T20 leagues. He was a part of the Toronto Nationals squad, and then he represented the Maratha Arabians during Abu Dhabi T10 in 2019.

1607  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 22, 2021, 05:56:19 PM
After 1 year, people almost forgot about other viruses. Anyone knows how many people died from flu in 2020/2021 ? Do people still die from Ebola? What about bird and swine flu?
If I'm not mistaken, among Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Moderna, medicine still havent discovered the best and successful vaccine?

The issue with virus is that they mutate in relatively short timespan. That is why we never have 100% effective vaccines against various infections causes as a result of viruses. Even in the case of COVID 19, the most effective vaccines (such as Pfizer and Moderna) only have a efficacy of around 95%. However, it is still initial stages and more and more vaccines are coming to the market with every passing month. Maybe some of these new vaccines can take the efficacy closer to 100%.
1608  Economy / Economics / Re: Economy after COVID-19 on: March 22, 2021, 05:35:25 PM
Now the general population is slow to act against these new strains and they are behaving as if nothing has been changed.

People today are very ignorant of their health and what I see the cause is a psychological condition that is fed up with the continuous spread of the virus but the economic condition is deteriorating with all forms of social restrictions.  People now think more about their guts than they are afraid of an invisible virus.  I also sometimes do the same thing.  With the news that the virus is mutating and growing, it is even stronger than before.  As if there was no end, even the inflation was looming before the eyes.  And what needs to be prepared is asset insurance assets to mitigate the risks that will be faced in the future.

It is true that economic condition is getting worse with every passing day. But that doesn't mean that the bars and pubs should open and the youth should be allowed to party there till sunrise. Opening the shops and restaurants is one thing, and opening bars/pubs is another. Both these should not be mixed. What is the benefit to the economy, if the youth is allowed to drink and party? They should refrain from such activities until the pandemic is contained.
1609  Economy / Economics / Re: Can the world be without poverty on: March 22, 2021, 05:19:59 PM
Unfortunately, most poor people have an inferiority complex and feel very jealous of the rich, they cannot give up their poor status and go up, they just sit there complaining about their fates and failures while the rich stay active and go up every day, only a few poor people can sympathize with their fate and try to give up a poor life in order to go up. Having too many children is not a reason to be poor, it is important that the thinking of the poor is too backward and not upgraded, it is difficult to dismiss this thought when it was plugged too deep into their minds

Completely agreed. For the sake of argument, it can be claimed that previously it was extremely difficult for the poor people to gain necessary education or skills so that they could qualify for a job that provides them with a decent salary. But that is not the case now. Smartphones and mobile internet connections are now affordable for everyone. If someone really want to get themselves out of poverty, then they can do that with relative ease.
1610  Economy / Economics / Re: Central Bank of Nigeria Official Reiterates Nigerian Residents Free to Trade BTC on: March 22, 2021, 05:08:50 PM
They may flag random users who deal with cryptocurrency and close down their bank accounts. This will create issues for cryptocurrency users. If they close down the bank account, then the users will face all sort of difficulties. Debit cards and credit cards will get blocked and making payments for utility bills and other expenses will be impossible. Still, at least the situation is better than what we have in India. In Nigeria at least the government is not stupid enough to make possession of cryptocurrency a criminal offense.
Actually this is the case here in Nigeria, they will restrict accounts of users who are dealing with cryptocurrencies but they have not made any law prohibiting possession of cryptocurrency as criminal offence. They rather directed Banks to stop dealing with exchanges offering such services in Nigeria. I'm sorry the Indian government is treating you guys this bad.

Yeah.. right now India is like the worst place to be in, if you are a cryptocurrency user. The rich users have already moved out to more sane jurisdictions. But those who can't afford to do that are stuck here. On top of that, the travel restrictions due to the pandemic has also made things really bad here. I really don't know why they have so much hatred for new innovations. It's like they want the people to remain in poverty forever.
1611  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 22, 2021, 04:21:51 PM
Will the ICC allow these matches, some of the matches were entertaining and they might pose a challenge to much lesser competitive teams as they have spinners who bowled well but the fast bowlers lost their pace and it is expected as they are playing after a long gap and i am not expecting them to bowl at express pace but you cannot compete with a young team and expect to be competitive if they are not playing in spin wickets Tongue.

Why do they need permission from the ICC? As far as I know, retired players don't need any NOC from their own respective cricket board or from the ICC. They are free to play wherever they want. And in case the ICC is afraid that these events will generate good revenue and it will in turn affect their own tournaments, then they should STFU. I have never seen a more incompetent sports body other than the ICC. They are composed of a bunch of greedy businessmen with no love for the game and during the last two decades they have done a lot of damage to the globalization of cricket. Fuck the ICC.
1612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do we need Litecoin when we have Bitcoin Cash? on: March 22, 2021, 01:45:09 PM
The only reason I would ever use either LTC or BCH is because of their low transaction fee. If we talk about technology, then both these coins are ages behind the newer cryptos such as Cardano and Polkadot. However I need to admit that the LTC developers try their level best to keep the coin updated against the recent issues and security bugs. Both LTC and BCH are losing market share and it doesn't surprise me. They are simply outdated cryptocurrencies.
1613  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 22, 2021, 01:30:19 PM
I just checked the aviation part, and it looks like, at least for some of them, this is not the case.
~~~~~
From the graphs above it doesn't look like the companies are in a bad shape currently.
Not trying to say that COVID-19 hasn't impacted the world economy. I'm just saying that the economy turned out to be more resilient than some analysts thought.
Their business is down and therefore I don't know how the stock prices are up. Even in my country (India), the stock prices of various airline companies (such as InterGlobe Aviation and SpiceJet) are up by at least 50% when compared to the levels 12 months ago. But these companies are posting record losses in their financial reports. And the future outlook also looks bleak, with all the new strains of the virus and reports of third wave in Europe.
1614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tesla Bitcoin purchase on: March 22, 2021, 01:05:08 PM
Yes, this information appeared due to the fact that Tesla is a public organization and submitted its reports to the SEC. I recently read information that in fact Elon Musk owns a much larger amount of bitcoins, namely, about five billion dollars. A significant part of them is on the balance sheet of SpaceX, but this company is not public and does not submit its reports to the SEC. Elon Musk also has bitcoins in private ownership. So the information about Tesla's purchase of bitcoins in the amount of one and a half billion dollars can be trusted.
These are just wild rumors. In case SpaceX want to purchase Bitcoins worth $5 billion, then they should have cash reserves worth at least that much. And as far as I know, the Space X reserves are around 1/10th of that amount. And even if they have that sort of cash reserves, I don't think that they will take the risk of investing all of that in a highly volatile asset such as Bitcoin. For comparison, Tesla invested less than 10% of its reserves in BTC.
1615  Economy / Economics / Re: Central Bank of Nigeria Official Reiterates Nigerian Residents Free to Trade BTC on: March 22, 2021, 12:55:22 PM
I don't think the Nigerian government seriously checks whether every individual is trading cryptocurrencies using their bank accounts since this would require a huge time and manpower investment.
These rules are probably only meant to scare cryptocurrency investors and I feel that majority of the cryptocurrency investors still find ways to trade while ignoring these rules.
Similar situations can be observed around the world in countries like India etc based on my research.
They may flag random users who deal with cryptocurrency and close down their bank accounts. This will create issues for cryptocurrency users. If they close down the bank account, then the users will face all sort of difficulties. Debit cards and credit cards will get blocked and making payments for utility bills and other expenses will be impossible. Still, at least the situation is better than what we have in India. In Nigeria at least the government is not stupid enough to make possession of cryptocurrency a criminal offense.
1616  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 22, 2021, 12:45:49 PM
If they can pick a legends team among the players that played in this series and then compete against Zimbabwe they will defeat them without a doubt, i am yet to look at the bowlers who could create problem and their fitness but the batsman are in free flow and they were hitting the ball with ease and they can compete again them in the shorter format especially in the T20 format.
The match will be competitive, but I am not sure whether they will be able to defeat the current Zimbabwe squad. The batsmen may be in better condition compared to the bowlers, but we will know that for sure only if the actual match occurs. And I have seen the list of players who are participating in this series. Some of the players retired only recently, such as Dwayne Smith, Dhammika Prasad and Jacques Rudolph. These players will be able to compete in a meaningful way. But the same can't be expected from the 50 plus players, such as Sanath Jayasuriya and Ridley Jacobs.
1617  Economy / Speculation / Re: If the FBI wallet with 141,000 bitcoins was stolen what would happen? :o on: March 21, 2021, 06:16:37 PM
Even if you have a plan to hacked it or anyone wants to hacked it, you are endangering your lives and your love ones, they have all the tools and the people to chase you even if you go to Mars, they will go after you, they will even put a bounty in your head, it's not worth the risk, their Bitcoin in exchange for your freedom and your life.
Some hacker may try to steal the coins, not for profit but as a protest. And as long as he doesn't convert this stash to fiat cash, the chances of FBI finding out his real identity is really low (still not zero, since we all know the capabilities of the FBI). All you need is the private key to the Bitcoin wallet (good luck with that). They may be storing their coins in some secure cold wallet and if you want to break in to their wallet, it will take some serious effort. That is the toughest part. Once you can access the coins, you can move the coins to another wallet and keep it there for the next 50 years.
1618  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 21, 2021, 06:11:25 PM
Haha I mean yes they might but lol this has become more of a Joke each year now. They always have the best players I don't even remember a single season when they had some bad players in their squad. They even find their winning combination at the start of the tournament but somehow begin to lose it towards the end of it. They are more like South Africas to the IPL. They don't exactly choke but their momentum fade aways in very important matches but yes they can win too obviously they have a fair chance of winning.
If they have the best T20 players, and still they manage to lose matches, then that means there is something wrong with their strategy and match plan. It won't be a bad idea to make someone other than Virat Kohli the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain. I would suggest the name of AB de Villiers. But the big question is whether Kohli will agree to this idea or not. If his ego gets hurt, then it will do more harm to the RCB prospects.
1619  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: T20 and T20I cricket prediction and discussion on: March 21, 2021, 05:53:04 PM
Haha Everytime they think of this and fail. Even their fans have stopped keeping any hopes from them. They have Maxwell too this time. Obviously the team on paper can't be better in any context so it's all about the management.
Who knows? Maybe this time RCB may emerge as champions. Apart from Kohli, they do have some very good players, both local and international. Devdutt Padikkal have been in splendid form recently for Karnataka. Glenn Maxwell is regarded as one of the best T20 players in the world right now. Then they have AB de Villiers to strengthen their middle order. Also I need to mention about their latest import - Kyle Jamieson.
1620  Economy / Economics / Re: After 1 year of Covid 19 Virus on: March 21, 2021, 05:45:28 PM
Brazil is a good example of a country reaping the consequences of having stupid leaders. All these ultra conservative politicians follow the same playbook- deny the virus is dangerous, deny the science about transmission, deny the growing pandemic is a problem, deny that statistics on deaths and hospitalizations, and then when it's too big to deny anymore blame it on something else instead of your own failed leadership.  Doesn't matter the country, the conservatives in each one have done this.
Jair Bolsonaro won the 2018 presidential elections with 55% of the vote. He was supported by the evangelical churches and the agrobusiness lobby. But the main factor behind his victory was the disqualification of leftist candidate Lula da Silva. If Lula was his opponent, then Bolsonaro would have lost the elections and therefore he got him disqualified (and jailed). Within 2 years (he took charge on 2019 January), Bolsonaro has managed to destroy vast swathes of Amazon rainforest, and encouraged illegal miners and loggers to invade indigenous reservations. Sometimes, lessons are learnt the hard way. Now at least some of those who voted for him would realize that doing so was a mistake.
