1721  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: European friends, last month, you profited approx 38%? on: March 11, 2015, 06:45:43 PM
Good topic but you can't add percentages from two different sets of numbers together.

E.g., a 2pt gain from BTC10 is 20% and a 30pt gain from BTC300 is a 10%, but a 32pt gain from 310 isn't 30%, it's 10% (ish).
1722  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What Would You Have Bid For The USMS Seized BTCs? on: March 11, 2015, 06:42:09 PM
I don't recall when the seizure took place exactly, what's the USMS "cost basis" for when they acquired the coins?
1723  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Research into opinions on Bitcoin on: March 11, 2015, 06:27:53 PM
A lot of researchers have posted surveys to the forum and I think a lot of forum members have participated. When you complete your research, please try to post it here for all of us to enjoy, learn from, and share with others.

If you spend some time reading the forum threads and asking questions you'll find a TON of knowledgeable people with a lot of different opinions. Good luck with your work!
1724  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ATMs to withdraw bitcoins directly form bank account on: March 11, 2015, 06:25:25 PM
This won't happen until your "regular" bank starts dealing in Bitcoin. The ATMs are owned/operated by banks. Give it some time and you might see some duality of currency BUT ATMs currently don't offer Pounds and Euros or Yen and Dollars so perhaps the Bitcoin and Dollars equivalent will never exist.
1725  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: March 11, 2015, 06:21:04 PM
Indeed, a little bit every day.

  • Signature campaign, constructive posts only!
  • Faucet dust and some faucet referral payments
1726  Economy / Economics / Re: Economic Devastation on: March 11, 2015, 05:47:06 PM

Together these are quite simply the most insightful piece of economic theory I have ever read.

How much economic theory have you read, I think that's an important piece of information for me to use to decide if I should:

A) Read any further, and
B) Put any credit into your opinion that this reading is valuable.

I await your response.

I was an economics major for a year before deciding that the opportunity cost of that career track was far too high. I subsequently jumped ship to biochemistry and mathematics. I have a doctorate but it is not in a field related to economics.

I very much value my time and the time of others. If I did not believe the information was both unique and worth reading I would not have posted it.

Thanks for sharing your background. I'll check out some of the reading you've posted here and I appreciate you sharing what you know. I've found in the past that a lot of people on this forum make claims about economics or prices or industry without any real fact whatsoever, which is why asked about your credentials and expertise.

@iamback, my question was completely valid. If people are going to make serious claims about the decline of the economy or wide scale economic destruction and they're asking me (i.e., all of us) to read and consider those claims it's important for us to ask some questions regarding credibility. That's all I did, no need to get upset with me for it and don't be condescending either.

If someone preaching economic theory hasn't studied much economic theory in the past it's fair to assume that they may not know what they're talking about. That doesn't seem to be the case here, but I didn't know until I asked and CoinCube responded.
1727  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: how much bitcoin incoming in per month ? on: March 11, 2015, 05:31:44 PM
I have a hard time believing the blanket statements that "it's not possible to make money" mining. I realize it's difficult, time consuming, expensive, etc, but there are still miners out there doing the work. Some operations are getting paid, right? Is just getting increasingly consolidated into fewer and fewer large operations?
1728  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What's more lucrative - mining or high rank signature campaign? on: March 11, 2015, 05:27:24 PM
P.S. CIYAM, if you're out there, i'm starting to see the frustration you see in people posting bullshit posts just to get paid...

That's pretty ironic. I don't see what 'bullshit' responses you've gotten here so far but you keep seeming to make bullshit topics/posts just to get paid. I'd suggest not asking stupid questions especially if you don't like getting appropriate responses to them.

So you're saying my question was stupid/vague/bullshit so I should expect answers of the same caliber?

Apologies to everyone if I came off as an ass. I'll try to improve my attitude.
1729  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What's more lucrative - mining or high rank signature campaign? on: March 11, 2015, 05:25:20 PM
If you have no money, join the Bit-X sig campaign. No limit to how many posts you make and payouts are weekly.

If you have money, you could try mining. The best money from mining comes from the lowest price of electricity.

There are no official limits via the campaign, but if the forum begins turning to garbage because of one person trying to make 25 BTC by mindless, constant posting- they will be suspended and make nothing...I've been around for a while, it is difficult to make 1-2 worthwhile posts in any given day.
Mining, even with low electricity costs becomes almost a certain loss unless the person is able to find themselves in the first batches of newest miners. Mines whatever possible for 2-3 weeks and SELLS the miner as fast as possible. If one cannot hit those spots, at this point in BTC time, they cannot make coin, most likely will have a negative ROI.

Best, easiest, fastest way to obtain 25 BTC...just BUY THEM and...that's it. Target hit.

Speaking of mindless posts, yours is a great example.

I'm not trying to "hit a target" i'm trying to figure out how long it takes to mine 25 BTC.

THanks to the moderator for putting this thread in a section that may have people who know!

Sorry didn't even notice that you were trying to hit a target.

Let's see.

1 post at Senior Member (You should be Senior this week)

.0014

It would take 17857 posts.

Assuming you post every 2 minutes a very constructive post, it would take you 24 days total assuming you did it 24 hours straight.

If you wanted to split this up, here is how long it would take:

1 hour a day = 30 Constructive Posts = 12 bucks = Approx 607-608 days (.042 BTC)
2 hours a day = 60 Constructive Posts = 24 bucks = 608/2 = 304 days (.084 BTC)
3 hours a day = 90 Constructive Posts = 36 bucks = 304/1.5 = 202 days (.126 BTC)
4 hours a day = 120 Constructive Posts = 48 bucks = 608/4 = 152 days (.168 BTC)
5 hours a day = 150 Constructive Posts = 60 bucks = 608/5 = 121 days (.21 BTC)
6 hours a day = 180 Constructive Posts = 72 bucks = 608/6 = approx 101 days (.252 BTC)

I won't go any further since I doubt you'd have the time past that amount.

This is the information you wanted, right?

I appreciate you doing the math. This isn't really what I was looking for but only because I don't agree with your assumptions. I was just looking for one of two answers:

1) Mining, or
2) Sig Campaign

Thanks for entertaining the question everyone. I know very little about mining, which is why the question was rather vague. I completely understand that there different size mining machines and different scale operations. I wasn't concerned about profitability, just revenue generation.
1730  Economy / Economics / Re: One-world reserve currency inevitable and will enslave all nations? on: March 11, 2015, 05:09:28 PM
I like the poll question but the answer choices are mutually exclusive, nor collectively exhaustive.
1731  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guard your Bitcoin with Stainless Steel Cold Storage on: March 11, 2015, 05:03:29 PM
I don't understand how these types of things are safe when the person who makes them has access to your private keys.

Just trying to dispel the myth, all the info I've found says the wallet comes with a card or two of letters and numbers so you punch out your public and private key on your own. The seller of this product has no connection to your address.
1732  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: CoinDesk launches the Deals page with no BTC prices? on: March 11, 2015, 05:00:56 PM
Funny indeed, they probably should have waited until "BTC accepted!" was a reality but at least they're working on it. One other speculation I had is that since Coindesk is the middle man in a transaction selling goods for companies that may not be as committed to the BTC community as Coindesk is. So Coindesk increases their currency exchange risk by selling in BTC but sourcing in Dollars.

1733  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptosteel: The Ultimate Cold Wallet Private Key Storage System on: March 11, 2015, 07:40:58 AM
@Cryptosteel,

Aren't there third party risk to get my private key? I have to generate that first before I can arrange it in the steel wallet.

P.S., "Anonymity" is spelled wrong in your graphic.
1734  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Cryptosteel: The Ultimate Cold Wallet Private Key Storage System on: March 11, 2015, 07:39:49 AM
essentially a metal paper wallet? They look rad atleast.

Just a metal wallet, no paper.
1735  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guard your Bitcoin with Stainless Steel Cold Storage on: March 11, 2015, 07:36:58 AM
Any word on exact price yet? How do I buy one of these?

Here's the official thread -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=977486
1736  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: very basic bitcoin news overview site, feedback welcome on: March 11, 2015, 07:33:54 AM
I like it, there's a lot of links and it's VERY clean looking.
How did you get the name "Bitcoin 21"?

thanks!
it's also lightweight and responsive, try it on a smartphone Smiley

21 -> 21 mio existing BTC

Thanks man, I also just figured out what 21e6 means, hahah...slow but catching up!
1737  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What's more lucrative - mining or high rank signature campaign? on: March 11, 2015, 07:32:01 AM
Eternal, thank you!

I definitely realize my question was vague because a huge mining operation would get to 25 BTC faster than one machine in an apartment some where.

To use the calculator you shared I need some more education, what's an average hash rate? I have no idea.

Guys, you're all missing the point. I'm not asking how to make money. (I HAVE AN AD IN MY SIGNATURE SPACE!)

I'm asking which would take longer, earning 25 BTC through mining or through a signature ad campaign as a Sr. or Hero Member?

If you don't know, don't respond.

P.S. CIYAM, if you're out there, i'm starting to see the frustration you see in people posting bullshit posts just to get paid...
1740  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 21 Jobs on: March 11, 2015, 07:22:38 AM
I only count 19 jobs.

Derp.

The company's name is 21 and that doesn't mean they have to have 21 jobs!

It was a joke, laugh.
