1001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 25, 2015, 08:55:34 AM
OK, the first interesting insight from the first 43 voters:
  • The UK is dominating almost all wealth categories, and
  • I'm surprised we only have 44 voters, we need to be in the Thousands!

THOUSANDS!

Spread the word. Share this link in other posts, lets's get it done!
1002  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB] Casascius Coins on: July 25, 2015, 08:42:20 AM
Just to weigh in on the multiplier on the 25BTC coins... That coin, both S1 and S2, is both rare and iconic. It seems a bit insane to me that they wouldn't go for a decent premium; at least 2x (and no, I don't own a bunch of them).

I think *eventually*, they will, even if BTC > $10,000. There are plenty of highly sought-after traditional coins that go for six-figures (for which the face multiplier would be thousands, btw).

As I've said before, numismatics, whether gold double eagles, flying eagle copper cents, or Casascius coins is driven primarily by rarity, history, and grade, with a kicker for physical beauty. The 25BTC coin is one of the rarest Casascius issues, is dated 2011 (the oldest Casascius date), a high percentage were opened, and a large fraction of articles about Bitcoin STILL feature that coin as the lead image.

http://www.spotcoins.com/bitcoin/casascius

In short, it's rare, intimately tied to Bitcoin's history, and is already recognized as noteworthy.

If anyone's selling for <= 2BTC over face with a verified ownership chain, PM me (Edit: but give Blazedout a shot first, as this is his thread...)

Melbustus! I love your work man/woman! That spotcoins site is the best summary of Casascius coins, have you been updating it? If so, how frequently do you updat the metrics on redeemed coins.

Thanks.
1003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 24, 2015, 05:32:22 AM
Post 2013 this would probably be Asia, with China being the wealthiest Bitcoin country right now judging by their minting presses and high volume exchanges.
Chinese Yuan is most traded fiat currency with BTC, following by Dollar! I cannot understand why do you put India and Asia together. The most Chinese users normally go to 8btc.com, pupular Chines crypto community, due to the blocked access to bitcointalk.org. Probably we need to refer this poll to there.

Because I had a hunch that India wouldn't have many votes and I wanted to minimize the number of choices...as it stands there are 37 choices. Another 4 seemed like too many, had to draw the line somewhere. I also could have separated Western and Eastern Europe.
1004  Economy / Economics / Re: What will be our new world currency? on: July 24, 2015, 12:07:02 AM
Wow, that graphic is scary, eh?

It looks like we're due for another "earth quake". We need more people to respond to this...maybe share this with the people who frequent Politics & Society?
1005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 24, 2015, 12:04:12 AM
The thing with this is, I expect a lot of the BTC to reside in china because major big mining companies are around there, so we would need the Chinese posters to be aware of this and vote too..

If you know of Chinese members that don't frequent the Bitcoin discussion, please feel free to share the link to this thread with those members or perhaps post it in the local forum.

The more participants we have the more better the analysis will be!
1006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 23, 2015, 09:01:23 PM
For those that enjoy a poll like this, please promote it by sharing the link with other forum members you talk to or posting it in appropriate threads.

The more people that participate the better our results will be and many of the long-time members don't frequent the Bitcoin discussion because the talk can be so general sometimes.

Thanks.
1007  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Are you using BitWage to get any of your paycheck paid in bitcoin? on: July 23, 2015, 08:35:17 PM
Do you know what BitWage charges employers or the employee for this service? They have to make their money somewhere...perhaps they're taking a piece when they convert from fiat to BTC, they're getting the spread...that's my guess.

The responses so far are pretty polarizing, only a few people are into it but of those who are they're all in!
1008  Other / Politics & Society / Re: More black babies aborted than born in New York City on: July 23, 2015, 07:59:36 PM
This is really interesting - african american babies are a fifth of the babies born in NYC but a third of the abortions.

Kind of shocking. They should overlay this data with socioeconomic data to see if income level can be correlated to a cause. The decision to have a baby or have an abortion can't be linked to race, because race has no ideology that would drive such behavior - religion, culture - perhaps, but not race.
1009  Other / Politics & Society / Re: NASA scientist says we may be living in a Matrix-like digital imprisonment on: July 23, 2015, 07:49:49 PM

"WELCOME to The Matrix. You’ve lived here all your life.

This was the terrifying theory first proposed by British philosopher Nick Bostrom.

The shocking hypothesis was penned four years after Andrew and Lana Wachowski wrote and directed The Matrix, a film set in a dystopian future in which humans are subdued by a simulated reality."

There should be a correction to the article - if Nick came up with his theory 4 years after The Matrix was written, then the theory was really penned by Andrew and Lana Wachowski. Give credit where credit is due...the Matrix was a really thought provoking film!
1010  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC in your country on: July 23, 2015, 07:45:26 PM
I am from France, many people have heard about it, but not too many are using it. Shops or magazines either. Most shops that I've seen are using it in Paris, which is normal.

Bitcoin still has a long  way to go in my opinion. But we are slowly getting there! Smiley

Any chance you'd be willing to get some bitcoin publicity on the Tour de France? Maybe you could go out on the course and hold a Bitcoin or BTC sign?

I would be great publicity, especially if the currency is widely known in France.
1011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No more bitcoin news? on: July 23, 2015, 07:41:45 PM
your concern should be more toward why all those good news did nothing for affecting the price? having gazillions of good news without any impact on the market seems very underwhelming to me

What's your time frame for the trends? You may need to take a 6-12 month chart of BTC price and then plot where specific news events happen to see if it effected the pricing trend over time. Looking for inter-day uptick or downtick correlations to news isn't useful when the overall volume of transactions is really low compared to all other financial markets.
1012  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: best way for earning bitcoins on: July 23, 2015, 07:33:34 PM
As always, the easiest and most convenient way to "earn bitcoins" is, and has always been, to get a job and buy bitcoins.
What ever you do for a job right now or plan to if you're in school is the best way to earn bitcoin. Do whatever you do to earn as much fiat as possible per hour, then use that fiat to buy bitcoin.

P.S. There are multiple threads about this topic. You should find them, close this thread, and then read them.
I know about this method but in my country its very hard to get part time jobs for students...is there any..other way from where I can earn from home..

Ok, good point. You said you have some skills - advertise those skills in the Services discussion of this Forum and work out a deal to get paid for it. Once you have a reputation of good service you can charge higher prices for your time. Start a thread about your services, and advertise the link for it in your signature.
1013  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bachelor's thesis on Bitcoins on: July 23, 2015, 07:14:19 PM
Giving you a hint on what to write your Bachelor's degree thesis on seems part inefficient (because we don't know what Bachelor's degree you're getting) and part cheating (because the point is for you to take a position on something you find interesting).

There are a lot of different topics to choose, from:
-The debate on Currency vs. Investment
-The debate on "the hard fork"
-How Bitcoin will impact the traditional banking system
-How Bitcoin has been adopted
-How Bitcoin may help serve the un-banked

Read around on the various forum rooms and you'll quickly see what the primary topics of discussion are these days. Also, check out the Bitcoin Reddit.

When you're finished with your thesis, would you mind sharing it with us so we can all benefit from your research? You can omit your name if you want to keep your anonymity...we only need your thoughts and conclusions!
1014  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Physical Crypto General Discussion on: July 23, 2015, 06:54:59 PM
Since all of us are in some state of acquisition or liquidation of Casascius coins, we all are maintaining a BTC balance.

I'd love to get all of you to respond to a bitcoin wealth distribution poll I just set up in the main Bitcoin forum -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1133078.0

This poll has been done in the past, my new version overlays geographic region so we can see wealth distribution around the globe.

Please take a minute to share (anonymously) where you fit in the wealth distribution and may you all see good fortune come your way!

Thanks.
1015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do I need to become a Bitcoin Advisor? on: July 23, 2015, 06:37:13 PM
Fortunately for you - no license is needed to share your experience and opinions on bitcoin to someone who is or is not willing to pay for it. Just get your information, be honest with your opinions and advice, and start advertising your services. Perhaps start with just tips. Advertise your service in the Services and Beginners sections of this forum.

Good luck.
1016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 23, 2015, 06:34:29 PM
I know there's been a lot of talk/polls about the spread of bitcoin wealth. I thought it would be appropriate to refresh that understanding (since there are a lot of newer members here) and overlay that distribution of bitcoin wealth with geographic location.

Please select the option that aligns with your bitcoin wealth and geographic location.

Please don't put your answer in a comment/reply, only share your comments to discuss the outcomes, findings, or theories on the data.

Thanks...

Nice poll. I always wanted to know how BTC's distribution is spread across the world, unfortunately it's impossible to know. You should post this on reddit to get as much traffic as possible so we can get some decent guesstimate. A lot of people in reddit that don't visit this forum and reddit has 170.000+ users on the bitcoin reddit.

Thanks for the suggestion - I'll set it up on Reddit and then post a link here so people here can also contribute to that poll. Thanks for your compliments. Understanding the wealth distribution would be really valuable for researchers, bitcoin business marketers, and the general curious cats (like myself)!

EDIT: If you've previously voted for a "UK & Europe" choice, and live in the UK, I encourage you to revote for the new UK-only categories.
1018  Economy / Auctions / Re: Sr. Member signature space for 3 months on: July 23, 2015, 05:59:30 PM
Your buy it now price is asking someone to pay you BTC0.0025 per post. That's more than any existing Signature Campaign is offering to anyone at a Sr. Member rank or at a Hero Member rank.

Why should your posts (i.e., ad space) be valued so much higher from everyone else?

What ad exposure will you provide to target markets of the firm you end up advertising for? Will you spread posts across all sub-forums? What will your frequency of posting be?

You're not asking for a competitive price so you may need to provide more incentive for advertisers to select you. Advertisers would get more exposure paying two people half of your rate, no?
1019  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTB] Physical Bitcoin on: July 23, 2015, 05:26:43 PM
You've found your place...there are plenty of options available being sold by multiple forum members. Good luck to you, welcome to the physical cryptocoin market, and always use escrow for your purchase and payments!

IMHO, if you can swing it, Casascius coins are the original, they're worth the higher price...
