1301  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guard your Bitcoin with Stainless Steel Cold Storage on: July 04, 2015, 07:40:39 AM
Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign just launched! "Cryptosteel: The Ultimate Cold Storage Wallet"

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/cryptosteel-the-ultimate-cold-storage-wallet

Our goal is to raise $8000.  Your generous support can make that goal attainable. Any contribution is appreciated and no amount will go unnoticed.
Thanks and I look forward to sharing my project experiences with you.

Are you offering any incentive to contributors of your Kickstarter campaign (i know it's not typical)? Providing a cold storage wallet if people contribute the sale price or greater may help you lock in orders and revenue faster.

Great product, would love to have one!
1302  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: An idea to move Bitcoin closer to everyday use on: July 04, 2015, 07:35:35 AM
You lost us with "like Central Bank's."

I think the BTC exchange rates do just fin right now. The challenge might arise with lesser known, smaller volume exchanges but those marketplaces should keep greater eye on the major marketplaces (i.e., Blockchain).

Why add another process to the mix to increase variance?
1303  Other / Politics & Society / Re: You've been warned, America, gay marriage is just the beginning on: July 04, 2015, 07:29:50 AM
Near future Endgame: Rich old conservative media mogul fuckwits die of old age, progressive millennials outlive them by many decades, everybody wins.

If that was the case, then Fox News wouldn't have been the most popular news channel in the United States. Fox News viewership is stable and slightly growing, while that of the progressive (pro-Sodomite) channels such as CNN and MSNBC are going down sharply. This means that the people want conservative news on their TVs.

http://deadline.com/2014/12/cable-news-ratings-fox-news-channel-wins-13th-consecutive-year-1201338131/

Interesting source, the article doesn't provide complete fact to it's claim, it only shows that Fox had highest viewership in 2014, not for the previous 13 years. The source, Nielsen, is legit though. The bar charts are confusing though, what's the second bar supposed to represent by network?
1304  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS Could Blow Up the Entire USA on July 4th If We're Not Careful on: July 04, 2015, 07:25:45 AM
I think the "high alert" talk has been standard in the US around these holidays since 2002. There's always a threat, [insert new organization name here]. The more pressing question is why the media pronounces ISIS as "I-sis" rather than the more phonetical "is-is"...there's the REAL scandal.

I kid. Happy holiday!
1305  Economy / Economics / Re: Paypal Banned Greece! on: July 04, 2015, 07:20:06 AM
This is the same as Western Union has done. Paypal has to operate within the laws that a country puts in place, clearly they didn't want to deal with managing the restrictions Greece has temporarily deployed on conducting international transactions and/or the $60 withdrawal limit. This isn't some scandalous or brave declaration against the establishment, it's more of an admission of respect for it.
1306  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coinbase - charge? on: July 04, 2015, 07:15:12 AM
The charge is minimal but i'd suggest buying more than $5 increments if you can. The more transactions you have the more fees you'll have, and the fees don't increase 1:1 with size of transaction.
1307  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Highest Graded Casascius Coins [MS-69] -More Coins Added! on: July 04, 2015, 07:12:43 AM
Jonesing for some pictures...send the coins to me and I'll take the pictures for you!!!

Ha.  Grin
1308  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Ok... What is the easieast way for a total newbie to buy some BTC? on: July 04, 2015, 07:10:51 AM
What country do you live in?

Since you have the Big Lebowski as your avatar photo I'll assume you're in the US, in which case Coinbase is the easiest way for you to buy some cold hard BTC. Good luck.
1309  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Oregon to test pay-per-mile idea as replacement for gas tax on: July 04, 2015, 07:06:14 AM
I'm a fan of use taxes, it's a fair way for people to pay for common services they use in proportion to how much they use it.

It's a bit funny but not surprise that people are complaining about this. When you change the way someone has to think about something, even when the result is about the same, there's opportunity for people feel the change is somehow making them worse off.

The article quotes the gas tax to be $0.30 per gallon. A 1.5 cent per mile tax would equal 30 cents a gallon if the car was getting 20 miles per gallon. The $0.015 per mile seems about right when you think about how many miles a tank of gas buys. I don't think the people of Oregon are paying more by paying per mile, however it's getting tax obligation back in line with use, which goes away with more fuel efficient vehicles. The alternative is deteriorating roads or tax hikes in other ways (i.e., local income taxes).

This isn't the big bad government trying to gouge people, it's about paying for common services based on use. This is an example of how taxes SHOULD be applied!
1310  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rapture / Comet Predictions for September 15-28th (2015) on: July 04, 2015, 06:55:30 AM

I'm not saying I believe it. In fact, I don't. It seems a bit early, though recent events and attitudes are getting closer to where it's supposed to be.

But basically it says that Obama is the abomination of desolation, as he was given the noble peace prize on the day that Jewish people look for their Lord, the holy place had been desecrated, and then Obama visited there and stood, versus standing.

"When you see 'the abomination that causes desolation' standing where it does not belong--let the reader understand--then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains." Mark 13:14

So I'm already seeing an inconsistency in how The Rapture Puzzle is putting this story together, and it relates to the Abomination that Causes Desolation reason. This item (chapter 4 in the PDF) mentions there are two things that prove this will have occurred:

1) "His army will rise up to desecrate the fortress" - explained in the PDF as being the Palestinian uprise at the Church of the Nativity, and
2) The leader of that army will stand where one is not supposed to stand - explained in the PDF as President Obama, when he went to the Navity with the leader of Palestine - this is where this theory deviates, it's not Obama's army who desecrated the fortress, it's Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas! By this theories logic it should be Abbas who is the Abomination, but they claim it is Obama.

This inconsistency alone makes me believe that this isn't a serious claim about the end of days but a political attack agains a US President (which happens to every US President because the most powerful people are the easiest to blame and the biggest targets.)

Further your comment about "a rumor" that the Pope wants to talk to the US President about aliens is nonsense - not that it's about aliens but that you're quoting "a rumor". There's no fact. There's no logic. There's no foundation for an argument that the Pope's visit has ANYTHING to do with the return of Jesus.

Finally, if the author of the Rapture Puzzle really wanted to make their point, why would they do it over 100 pages that is mostly rehashing scripture rather than linking factual events to the scripture? There's nothing worse to getting people to believe your point of view or cause than burying the important detail in pages and pages of context, background, or explanation. Get to the point! Give us a summary! If you want us to believe something tell us what it is in a way that we can consume it in one piece!

What keeps you attracted to all of this? Obviously you're buying into some of it (if not all) otherwise you wouldn't be so quick to provide more support, links, information, etc.

Good talk, let's keep it up.
1311  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rapture / Comet Predictions for September 15-28th (2015) on: July 04, 2015, 04:50:51 AM
This remains interesting to me, thanks for sharing your additional thoughts on it. I'll read up on it and perhaps respond back with an educated opinion.

I do have one more question for you - what's the relevance of the Pope being in the US and a UN meeting occuring int he same week? Regardless of the fact that the Pope's visit in no way enhances some end of days theory, Is it possible the Pope is attending the UN meeting?

At a minimum, let's let these types of (conspiracy) theories keep us enjoying the now and every day that follows as much as we can. Cheers.
1312  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rapture / Comet Predictions for September 15-28th (2015) on: July 04, 2015, 01:00:51 AM
The problem with using the Bible as a predictor is that there is ZERO guidance on timing. That's why people keep claiming - "this is the year! - and  nothing happens. What, specifically, does this new theory point to as an indicator that this year is the year AND that September is the timing?

Y2K was absolutely a theory. The theory was that computers wouldn't be able to function once the date rolled from 12/31/1999 to 1/1/2000, which would have cause computers to fail and therefore cripple the world's monetary system which is run on computers, servers, and in the cloud. That theory just wasn't based in biblical reasoning.

These theories are akin to someone standing on the sidewalk with a sign around their neck saying "the End is Near". Just because someone says it doesn't give me any reason to believe it.

Sorry I'm hassling you on this, but what are the facts this theory is listing that should give anyone any reason to pay attention?
1313  Other / Politics & Society / Re: You've been warned, America, gay marriage is just the beginning on: July 04, 2015, 12:53:48 AM
What is it that Fox News this is coming, what's the end game?

The reality is that the end comes when the People of the US decide it has come, the People run this country, no one else. If the Gov't steps beyond their bounds, the People vote that government out (see the abundance of Democrats elected in 2008.)

Another reality is that the news is in the business of creating sensational stories out of status quo...it's how they make their money. I wouldn't get too caught up in what Fox News (or MSNBC for that matter) have to say about "what's supposed to happen".
1314  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Rapture / Comet Predictions for September 15-28th (2015) on: July 03, 2015, 06:01:38 PM
What do you think makes this year's claim than any previous year's claim? There was Y2k, the Mayan 2012 calendar, and numerous others that weren't has high profile. I feel like the doomsday prophecy people will latch onto whatever the next "prediction" is, so if that happens to be this year all of them are going to support it regardless of fact or support.

So in your opinion, does this year's prediction have any more credibility than any previous year's prediction?
1315  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Russia Blacklists Another Bitcoin Website on: July 03, 2015, 07:39:30 AM
Good thing Bitcoin doesn't have to exist solely within Russia's borders. Is anyone from Russia on this forum? I'd love to get their perspective on their governments censorship of the Bitcoin project.
1316  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Christian bakers fined $135,000 for refusing to make wedding cake for lesbians on: July 03, 2015, 07:35:23 AM
Very old news i'm afraid, but it's one of the major news events that has led to the recent legislation to make same sex marriage legal in the US. Now, the social debate continues on whether people who disagree with same sex marriage due to religious beliefs can refuse service to those they know are gay. The test for whether this is discrimination hinges largely on whether sexual orientation is a protected class in the US, I believe it is, which would make it illegal for a business to refuse them service (if the reason for the refusal is due to the sexual orientation.)
1317  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: July 03, 2015, 07:17:08 AM
Yeah, i got small bitcoin from giveaway & avatar campaign
what was the giveaway? Cheesy

There's often giveaways for taking surveys or entering some promotion or gambling event. You should look around and you'll probably find them.
1318  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Greetings and Hello on: July 03, 2015, 07:05:04 AM
So what does SoundCloud do/offer?

The website looks good, i listened to Rabble, Carl Sagan, and the Riddle demo. It doesn't seem like you're creating any music or art but providing some service related to broadcasting or playing tracks one owns. Can you share more detail?

Good luck.
1319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you like best about bitcoin? on: July 03, 2015, 06:54:54 AM
I like the inspiration it gives to a lot of us that the traditional system can be changed, that things are not to big or out of reach to be revised, improved, made more appropriate for people.

Cool topic idea.

Chef, what's your opinion on this? You just posted the article but didn't share your point of view. Helps with the discussion by leading us off!
