961  Other / Politics & Society / Re: American Dentist Pays $50G's, Kills Cecil The Lion on: July 30, 2015, 10:54:46 PM
I'm having a hard time picking a side on this one. I think hunting for sport is pretty pointless and wasteful, but this country allows hunting, right? They have guides and permits and tourism based in the wild game hunting. So is this really an outrage? This HAPPENS EVERY DAY in this country, no?

Why is this story so much more important?

Its not so much that this particular case is more important than others, its simply impossible to report every single instance of these kind of incidents. Instead, it is easier to give people a story that touches them to make an example and a case to mitigate this kind of thing from happening again in the future.

I did a quick Google search for "lion hunt" and look at all the trophy pictures that come up -> https://www.google.com/search?q=lion+hunt&espv=2&biw=1517&bih=714&site=webhp&tbm=isch&imgil=Jvpvr7z7BwfzqM%253A%253BFUWwg4UBA0EihM%253Bhttps%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.discountafricanhunts.com%25252Fhunts%25252Ftrophy-lion-hunting-safari-in-south-africa.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=Jvpvr7z7BwfzqM%253A%252CFUWwg4UBA0EihM%252C_&dpr=0.9&usg=__DBsJJDb8FEnQUulPlpyWCTEbL4o%3D&ved=0CDAQyjdqFQoTCODrqeP3g8cCFVUtiAoddEwJXg&ei=eKm6VeDPHNXaoAT0mKXwBQ#imgrc=4WdJgMmsSNookM%3A&usg=__DBsJJDb8FEnQUulPlpyWCTEbL4o%3D

These countries need the money, people are willing to pay. Some of us may think it sucks but who are we to tell the country of Zimbabwe what to do?

This argument has a similar (although much more morbid) tone as the gas efficiency of vehicles debate - drive a hybrid vs. driving a gas guzzler. Perhaps the burden of acceptance should be whether the person doing the shooting is doing anything to give back to the community or natural environment that they've taken from for sport. Teddy Roosevelt hunted, a lot, and he also created five National Parks in the US...it feels like he earned his sport hunting. This Dentist, probably not, and he certainly didn't deserve some dumb "celebrity" sharing his home address (which I heard happened recently.)

Someone rolled 10000 so far?

Any tips from anyone on how to get referrals?

Purchase an ad on other faucets

Best I've done is 9905

mine was 9995 this time last year

for ref is better for you to use any social network from facebook twitter ..... to another forum

AFAIK no one has reported to have rolled a 10000, which is kind of strange considering there are over 1.1 million registered users.

But it's not the number of users that matter, it's the number of rolls. In theory every 10,000 rolls there should be one roll for lucky number 10,000 (provided the game is fair, and the OP claims it's "provably fair"!)

That's how the laws of probability work, unless the site is fixing the rolls by adding a level of increased hedge against the random selection of 10,000 numbers to make the higher numbers appear even less than a natural random sample would suggest.
963  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 30, 2015, 06:49:22 AM
Nice poll to recognize bitcoin wealth spread by region, but i think Asia is bit too wide as it is a big region.

How would you split up Asia?

It seems I should have split up UK and Europe, but it's done now. It would be silly to restart the poll with a slightly different cut, but if people want to dive into the regions...feel free to discuss it.

In better news, we've passed 100 votes!!!

Let's keep it going! Spread the word, share the link with the people you associate with here. Thanks!
964  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Methods of growing your Bitcoin? on: July 30, 2015, 06:44:40 AM
Hi! Cheesy

I recently created a thread asking for the best methods of gaining free Bitcoin.

Most popular results:
  • Signature Campaign (High Paying)
  • Faucets (Low Paying)
  • Trading (Variable)

Now, I'm asking a different question.
What are your best methods of growing Bitcoin.

Only refer to safe investments!

Thanks

You lost me with "only refer to safe investments". I don't think there are any safe investments in bitcoin. Bitcoin itself is still wildly volatile and the future is completely uncertain (despite media mentions, Greece, and blah, blah, blah...)

The fundamental anonymity of bitcoin ownership and transactions makes it difficult for investments to be done with confidence, the investor has to be significant amounts of trust in the investment provider. There's no recourse if the bank takes off with the money!
965  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain without bitcoin. Can it work? on: July 30, 2015, 06:40:58 AM
Idea of blockchain without bitcoin is becoming quite common nowadays. It's even getting discussed by banks and other mainstream heavyweight players. However, it doesn't make a sense for me. For blockchain to be reliable store of anything, it must be supported by some expensive process, like mining. And the most expensive mining is bitcoin mining. So if you want to store some valuable data in a blockchain, it must be bitcoin blockchain. Am I right or am missing something?

You're missing something. The blockchain could be used to verify the authenticity of sorts of transactions - from transaction based business to accounting practices for a major corporation. The mining likely wouldn't be involved but if it didn't the math wouldn't need to be so difficult (which is what drives the hard and expensive part of mining).

The blockchain could be the next mega trend in business...like the cloud in popularity, unlike the cloud in the fact that the blockchain will have much greater impact then "virtual storage".
966  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Accept KYC or jump through hoops to avoid it? on: July 30, 2015, 05:49:43 AM
Would you be willing to share you story of identify theft? Maybe we can learn from it, avoid having it happen to us? Was it conducted by a business or because a business lost your personal data or some other reason all together?

Sorry for your luck! Good luck with your settlement!
967  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Your political views - test yourself on: July 29, 2015, 09:57:16 PM
Your Political Compass

Economic Left/Right: -2.0
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.36

Yeah, the questions are fairly charged or leading the respondent. And the response options are sometimes forcing one to one extreme or another which is bound to lead to some inaccuracy in the results. I've never seen this poll before, what level of expertise does this guy have? Any solid endorsements from any publicly sponsored media outlets (regardless of how independent their content is)?

Haha. Thanks for sharing.
968  Economy / Auctions / Re: 2013 Casascius .1 BTC Silver MS-68 [Funded][Ends August 1 4PM EST] on: July 29, 2015, 05:39:52 PM
QS, beauty of the a coin. The hologram is perfect on it, the first bits are perfectly straight, really something! I know that ANACS and team doesn't consider the hologram in grading, but that should just imply to all of us that this coins is worth every satoshi if not much more of what an MS68 can command. The hologram appears flawless and coins with completely straight first bits are rare, very rare.

In the first thread you mentioned or implied a buy-it-now price of BTC3.5 ("BTC3.5 OBO"), is that still your target for a buy-it-now price?

Thanks and good luck to you!
969  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL: Bitcoin wealth by region on: July 29, 2015, 07:31:49 AM

I am the first one to vote for South America Embarrassed, and my contribution is not even worth  Undecided.

How do you define Asia? What does it mean "India and Asia"? It would make sense if it was Russia/Turkey and Europe, since those countries are in two continents, but... India?

Hey, thanks for the feedback! I had to strike a balance between geographies and number of choices. We don't have many India/China responses yet so maybe I made the right decision. And by the way Any Bitcoin ownership is great, keep collecting/earning/buying and don't let the comparisons to other people get you down. Some people got in early, others didn't..

Thanks to those following the thread, tell people about it so we can get more respondents. Share this poll on local boards!
971  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Loaning - Is it worth it? on: July 29, 2015, 05:04:13 AM
If there is a chance of you being scammed then you will surly be scammed. Only ever loan Bitcoin if you can get a trusted 3rd party to hold collateral at 110%-120% of the value of the loan, which will at least cover you when they default. I doubt it is very profitable in all honesty.
Ah okay, thanks. But what really is collateral? If someone says they'll give a domain name for example, how do I know that really is worth more than the loan?

Collateral is anything you can hold as value for the amount you've loaned...domain name is good but only as valuable as your ability to use it to recoup your money of the borrower doesn't repay.

You should check out www.prosper.com. It would be safest and most profitable to converts your btc to dollars and loan them through Prosper. You can lisn amounts as low as $25, choose who you loan to and get a decent return (4-10%.)

Check it out.

Hey, there's a bunch of spam topics in the Economicd board right now. The post talks about the university of Michigan but is flooded with Chinese characters and the same post, with the same content is posted several times in a row.

It actually looks like malware has corrupted the post and posted it a bunch of times (but I'd be shocked if that's actually possible).

Just thought you Moderators should know.
974  Other / Off-topic / Re: What was BTC price? on: July 29, 2015, 03:26:19 AM
In the $10-$20 range in late 2011.

At the time it was a lot harder to buy it. I hadn't found this place yet and there wasn't much media or news elsewhere except for the occasional article identifying that exists and referring to it in very simple terms. Then I checked the price about a year later and it was at $100 to $120...

It's crazy to look at what could have happened. Fun to talk about but don't go crazy obsessing about what could have happened. Focus on what still can.
975  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: why you shouldn't trade Bitcoin on: July 29, 2015, 02:43:54 AM
be a hodler not a trader.  top reasons:

1. most traders lose money.  if you were a
good trader you'd be rich already.

4. brokers and exchanges are unreliable (gox)

Good topic, I have a question and a comment. If I've never traded before how do I know I'm not good at it yet, maybe I can still be "rich already" if I try some trading! And the people holding Bitcoin at Mt Gox were the ones who got fucked and left with nothing! The traders, the people transacting through probably did the best at dodging that bullet!

Full Disclosure: I'm a hodler.

Holding helps keep the price high if demand remains the same or increases. Now when to hold em, that time is now!
976  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Tips for building succesfull bitcoin startups on: July 28, 2015, 11:08:13 PM

Great content, is this your website? Or is this your article? Or are you sharing the article that you've found?

If you own the site or wrote the article you should include a QR code or bitcoin address for us to send you tips for the information!

I like that you included sources to the experts referenced in the article. Another addition could be adding a comments section so people can use the opportunity to discuss some startups they may be involved with. Networking is critically important for all business, but especially new business. You could help these entrepreneurs by establishing a place for them to build their network with other business owners and customers.
977  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best decentralized marketplace to sell digital goods for Bitcoin? on: July 28, 2015, 11:01:44 PM
You found the right place - the Goods forum on Bitcointalk -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=51.0

There's a lot of good action in the Goods forum - great offers, a lot of things for sell, a lot of traffic volume of purchasing.

Post your offer in a new topic and see what happens. (I'm surprised other people who have responded here have completely overlooked the forum the spend their time on!)

Good luck!
978  Economy / Goods / Re: [Request][WTB] Wine from 2008, private winery "bitcoin" --Details inside on: July 28, 2015, 10:48:52 PM
Hello. As many of you know I'm a long time permabull and I have no doubt that bitcoin will take over much of the financial system and its price/value will skyrocket sometime over the next coming years.

With that being said I would like to know if anyone has connections to any private wineries that would be willing to make a "bitcoin" wine out of a grape stock from 2008. I will purchase multiple of these bottles from you and I have no problem paying $250/bottle for the right quality.

I will be buying cases these bottles of wine at $1000/btc, $5000/BTC, $10,000/BTC etc. And I'm sure you will also have many other customers. The label must be professionally made with a nice bottle design.

I'm interested in wines that are either Zinfandel's or something similar to Roscato Rosso Dolce. Yes you may call my palate immature if you like Smiley

I'm open to suggestions/comments etc.

Gotta love wine, cool idea. Is the bitcoin connection the fact that you're using grapes from 2008? And given the price points you list it sounds like you want to buy wine (from any decent winery) at the years when bitcoin reaches specific milestones, i.e., when it was created, when it hits $1000 (will this be Dec. 2013?), when it hits $5000, when it hits $10,000, etc.

Is this what you're doing?

Do you want the wineries to have anything to do with bitcoin?
979  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin wealth by region - please consider completing this poll on: July 28, 2015, 10:44:39 PM
Voted. I don't get it why polls of this type doesn't get that much support. Also I don't think that you'll really get an honest answer from the users of this forum. Most of the users nowadays doesn't even read a single post in a thread and just go straight commenting and/or voting on a poll.

Thanks for your vote! Share the link to the poll with others.

Why don't you think people here would respond honestly? What incentive do they have to lie about how much coin they have? There's no link to the vote and the name. I'm sure a few will lie because some people are liars, but most will play it straight.

And I agree that a lot of people don't read a post but just reply with the first thought that comes to mind. But voting on a poll is really easy and that is the reply function, no one cares about the comments in a poll, they care about the poll itself. This is why I'm trying to get more people to respond so we can actually get a good representative sample of the population.

We have 57 votes right now, it's a good start but certainly not ideal. Spread the word, here's the link -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1133078.0
980  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Check out our new feed of Bitcoin news and blockchain statitistics on: July 28, 2015, 10:31:20 PM
I think the best bitcoin blockchain statistics come from the blockchain.info/charts site. They have the best bitcoin currency statistics and charts, specifically:

  • Circulation
  • Market Capitalization
  • Transaction Fees
  • Transaction Volume
  • Pricing Trends

They have about 30 different charts!

What they don't have is commentary, boards, or news...just the data. But if you want the best data, you gotta go to the source.
