Together these are quite simply the most insightful piece of economic theory I have ever read.
How much economic theory have you read, I think that's an important piece of information for me to use to decide if I should: A) Read any further, and B) Put any credit into your opinion that this reading is valuable. I await your response.

Another day another dollar, err BTC!
Always earning...
Thanks to everyone for their posts so far. It's interesting to see what people are spending their coin on. I'd REALLY be interested in knowing how people can pay utility bills with Bitcoin. I mean, is it more than just a 3rd party accepting your coin and then paying the bill for you in fiat? Cause that's NOT paying your bills in bitcoin. That would be akin to giving your neighbor you trash to be recycled and saying that you recycle all the while he's just putting it into the trash.

They probably wouldn't create a cryptocurrency, but they instill a sense of transaction verification (i.e., blockchain) technology to decrease the ability to counterfeit the dollar. I don't see them replacing the dollar and what would a second currency, a crypto currency, do for them or the US?

THe page is in russian, so can't really view or understand much. As for excursions with bitcoin, I had a vegas trip last year with bitcoin alone. Lucky guys. I haven't got enough Bitcoin to spend, im on saving mode until I feel comfortable enough with my savings. Do you have fiat to spend? Lucky for you BTC can still be purchased with fiat.

The US would have probably not fallen into recession if it were not for the 9/11/11 terrorist attacks. The economic boom did peak in 2000, however we did not fall into recession until late 2011.
I don't think there was actually any kind of crisis in 1987, just a recession caused by the economic cycle.
Really? The terrorist attack referred to as "9/11" happened on 9/11/ 2001, the recession started in 2008 (by 2011 the markets has started to recover). And there definitely was a market crash in 1987, it's referred to as "Black Monday", http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Monday_(1987).

How do you define "economic collapse"?
The were market crashes and subsequent bear markets after 1999/2000 and 2007 but these didn't collapse the economy. Business continued on, albeit recessed, but both of these declines created firesale prices for the biggest and best companies in the US, certainly not a reason to panic unless you planned to retire in 2001 or 2008 (in which case you shouldn't have been invested in stocks anyway).
Economic Collapse, to me, means a fundamental breakdown of the economy. Depression style disappearance of work and wealth. Neither of these happened in the recent 15 years. I don't think they'll happen this year either.

Did we see much price increase correlated to the last halving? I don't think so. But perhaps that rate (from 50 to 25) still wasn't enough to cause a shortage of supply over demand.

The people that say BTC will fail just want faucet payouts to be higher!
I think Bitcoin is very much still at a place where things could go very well or it could fizzle out into history. I'm a fan of success but I'm not sure that the bears in the audience are trying to keep prices down so they can buy more at a low price. Majority of the people in the world would be bearish on bitcoin...especially if it's "just like using cash!"
Because if it's "just like using cash" why not just use cash?

Do we think that any of this news will stop people from taking selfies in the most mundane and/or public places? We can only hope!

When will Putin publicly announce that he kills people that oppose his dictator politics?
Poutine is far more popular than Putin...

Wow, this is cool. Is there a site from which we can track their progress? It's odd that the trip will take 5 months. If they can cross the Atlantic/Pacific in 5/6 days why not do longer stretches. And if they only have 12 legs they must be taking a lot of time off in between legs for some reason. It would be more impressive if they did it straight through with minimal stops.
Powered by the sun is the real point here, very cool.

Just one day? That's FUCKED UP! I think women should get at least half the days...seeing as how they make up half the population. This is like calling February "black history month", such bullshit.

If the Master's benefit is based on luck they're not running their game right. They should run their game so the house has the edge. There's never a legitiment excuse for them to take our money.

Yeah man, it sucks that Coinbase turned you away. Try not to take it personal...maybe they had a legit reason, maybe it was a mistake, either way it's just business. This isn't about disrespecting someone in a pool hall or in the street. Take your business to one of the other good wallet options and DEFINITELY let us all know your negative experience (as you have by starting this thread.)

Another sexist thread, just after International Women's Day.
You're the sexist for supporting only ONE day for women. How about every day is International Women's Day...as much as it is International Man's Day.

Isn't this what the blockchain and miners are for, for community verification of the transactions. What control does Blockchain.info have over your transaction from cold wallet to cold wallet? (Not sarcastic, I don't know).
I can see how the bank style services (e.g. Coinbase) could appear risky and they'd probably need to provide some insurance ot get anyone's business, but the exchanges are just meeting places for the transaction. Like that spot under the buttonwood tree in lower Manhattan.
