1901  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Methods of growing your Bitcoin? on: March 06, 2015, 10:49:55 PM
Here's what you'll need:

  • One BTC1 Casascius brass coin, prefer 2011 Series 2, but any year will do
  • One clay pot, pint to gallon size
  • One gallon of nitrogen rich soil
  • And unlimited source of water

Fill the pot half full with soil. Place the Casascius coin in the pot on top of the soil. Fill remainder of the pot with the remaining soil. Water thoroughly and regularly. Wait a month or two  and with some luck you'll find a sprout of growing bitcoin on its way to the moon.

Jokes aside, right now it's easier to earn bitcoin as wages than it is to earn bitcoin as interest on deposits.
1902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Average Age for Bitcoin/Crypto currency users on: March 06, 2015, 10:44:55 PM
You should change this poll to ask people what their age is. What we all think the right answer could be is irrelevant and certainly not statistically valid!
1903  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Is Safer Compared To Other Digital Payment Platforms on: March 06, 2015, 10:39:23 PM
Among digital payment platforms, bitcoin CANNOT be safer. The reason is because bitcoin has the components of cash, it's anonymous...if I lose what's in my pocket and someone else finds it i've lost it for good! Same exists for bitcoin - transactions are final. Thefts are nearly impossible to find or reverse. There's very little safety with bitcoin.

Oh, and the volatility of the price also reduces the safety, e.g., it wouldn't be safe to put your life savings into bitcoin because it could be worth half as much in 3 months. It could also be worth double too...
1904  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTCPoint Creates 10,000 Bitcoin-Enabled ATMs Using Spanish Bank Network on: March 06, 2015, 10:37:06 PM
Does anyone know how many BTC ATMs exist worldwide?

Has anyone used a BTC ATM? Care to share your experiences with us?
1905  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC, the blockchain and compounded interest on: March 06, 2015, 10:34:07 PM
1. Yes
2. No

Questions for you:

Is your idea that one fund be developed for one person. Like if $10,000 were deposited in an account for one person on their birth that the compound interest would provide for them? Or is your idea that a fund be created for all children (if so, what amount would be needed? How long would the investment period be? What would the pay out rate be?)

Compound interest is a powerful thing...and if grand parents can set up funds for their grand children for this exact purpose it would be VERY powerful. It's tough to get an electorate to devote tax dollars to it but it's certainly a noble and valuable idea, one worth pursuing.
1906  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Academic Survey] Bitcoin adoption factors study - Improving Bitcoin adopotion on: March 06, 2015, 10:26:55 PM
Just finished the survey and have a question for you:

Can you share your results with the community here once you have them compiled? We're all thirsty for knowledge and surveys like this are great for our knowledge and our personal efforts to spread awareness.

Good luck with your research.
1907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: investopedia article on: March 06, 2015, 10:18:05 PM
Wow, that's cool! Even small articles substantiate the system, the technology, the value of the use.

Good find!

1909  Other / Archival / Re: Best bitcoin faucets? on: March 06, 2015, 09:56:49 PM
Im not in a position to buy BTC off an exchange at the moment, so what faucets do you guys use?

You should join a signature campaign. There are few offered to Newbies and if you can hang in there until you have a higher rank your pay rate will increase and you'll have more options.

See this thread -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=615953.0

As for faucets, Freebitco.in is the best paying faucet out there.
1910  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bit-x wants a phone number to sign-up? on: March 06, 2015, 09:44:39 PM
Once you're signed up you can give an email address for future security verifications. The phone number option is ok, but the number that calls for verifications comes from country code +44, is that the UK or something? Could result in long distance charges for some.
1911  Economy / Economics / Re: pump and dump on: March 06, 2015, 09:42:12 PM
If they bought 10M coins in one purchase their purchase price would have to rise significantly. If they bought that many coins in phases the price would rise gradually as their 10M continually exceeds the available coins being sold.

A pump and dump really only works if you buy your coins today, then try to get a bunch of other people to run up the price based on fake or misleading news, at which point you sell.
1912  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Casascius Silver Coins on: March 06, 2015, 09:39:53 PM
all I hear is ..."me and my homies, BLAZED OUT!"

Coins look good, good luck with the grading and sale!
1913  Economy / Economics / Re: one question tickling my mind on: March 06, 2015, 09:36:34 PM
Oh man, no, they wouldn't be...in fact I can take whatever coins you have from 2011 off your hands...please see my address in my profile!

Hahaha, what a great question, please tell me you have 50,000 bitcoins from 2011!
1914  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Washington state Federal Agents still prosecuting Marijuana Growers on: March 06, 2015, 09:29:04 PM
Federal law always overrules State law, so it's more like the "Parent" meddling in the affairs of the "Child" for telling the parent to "bite it!"

I don't agree with it but it's not news.
1915  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Iran: Some people consider peace 'an existential threat' on: March 06, 2015, 09:25:48 PM
Human's hold grudges and seek revenge...one of our most fatal flaws.
1916  Other / Meta / "Satoshi" started Bitcointalk? on: March 06, 2015, 07:17:41 AM
Perhaps this needs to be in the Beginners section...

Satoshi started Bitcointalk?

The very first topic in the forum is started by Satoshi and talks about Bitcoin 2.0 -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=16.0

Pretty cool!

Clever title, shall we coin the acronym "IoM"?

Downloaded!
1919  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How do we destroy ISIS an co? on: March 06, 2015, 06:33:13 AM
It's tough. A first reaction for me is let's bomb the hell out of them, but fighting people with bombs just breeds more people that want to fight with bombs.

E.g., I'm a bad guy and I terrorize you so you kill me. My child grows up knowing you killed me and all they know is that you're the bad guy and want to avenge my death, so they terrorize you. You kill my child. And my grand child grows up knowing you killed...It never ends.

The only way to fight this is we make it impossible for their terrorism to be effective, we play "blockade style" offense and defense against their attacks, forever. It's the only way we can make them ineffective AND minimize or eliminate the breeding of more people that share their ideology.

And by "blockade style" offense I mean that the world needs to treat them as the pariah of society. People need to not do business with them, not give them money, not let them stay/operate/live on their land...they need to be starved.

Make it impossible to exist BUT never take away their existence, so there can never be anything to avenge.
1920  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama unveils plan to start federalizing state and local police on: March 06, 2015, 06:26:55 AM
It's not, if you do some research on what Obama said you'll realize he's not proposing the Feds take over local or state authorities, police, etc.
