Welcome to the forums sirfibonacci Smiley Hope you enjoy your stay!
1922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: REVELATION I JUST HAD ABOUT BTC!!! Read This on: September 17, 2013, 11:05:10 AM
Because greed.

Pretty much the best explanation. People don't want to think about the possibility of scams when they could be making thousands of dollars a day from mining (based off their ridiculous calculations that they'll get the miner tomorrow and start mining 24/7 etc) so they conveniently ignore it and then obviously get scammed.
1923  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do you think BTC will hit $200? on: September 17, 2013, 08:51:25 AM
Well although the value of Bitcoin doesn't seem to be rising proportional to the increased cost of mining bitcoins (due to more power and upfront cost of mining rigs), I do think we will see $200 by near the end of this year. However, I'm not sure whether this will simply be a bubble or whether it can hold steady at ~200.
1924  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: repost of reddit post 'BFL refund success.... sort of lol' on: September 17, 2013, 08:49:27 AM
So!, Can we finally BAN BFL FROM THESE FORUMS!?
There's been a poll, 70+% of users feel that they are a scam, that they are a fraud, that they exploited people, that they conned people via false advertising!...
When will someone deal with them!

I'm not sure whether we can actually ban BFL themselves as although the admin does have the possibility of banning their accounts and IP blocking them it won't really do much to a determined user. Anyways, they'll get their fair share once this whole thing plays out, for some reason there are still some people holding on to false hope.
1925  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do You Think The Price of Bitcoins Will Go Down To $5.00? on: September 16, 2013, 07:06:53 AM
Well I believe if the drop happens, it will be very quick instead...

A large drop will only really happen if for some reason we get a bubble and it bursts, and even then if history is anything to go by it won't drop to anywhere near $5.
1926  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports betting Picks ( RECORD 143-64-16) on: September 16, 2013, 12:13:10 AM

1927  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Assault weapon bans on: September 15, 2013, 08:04:24 AM
so you don't believe in the idea that government is to SERVE the people, rather than be our masters?

Well I live in the land of Oz and we've had guns outlawed since 1996 and it's been a smooth time. Sure I do agree that they should serve the people, and it's in the people's best interest to have ALL guns banned simple as that.
1928  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Assault weapon bans on: September 15, 2013, 07:48:09 AM
Hah, easiest decision in the world. Ban ALL guns. I've never seen the merit in allowing civilians to readily access firearms and I still don't. All you are doing is giving more power to the masses to terrorize each other with.
1929  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The Matrix vs Inception on: September 15, 2013, 07:46:09 AM
Personally, The Matrix was a far deeper than Inception, it really provoked and challenged my thinking of the world around me (for example perception vs reality and relativism) . Inception was an interesting concept, but it didn't really make me question anything really.
1930  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: An Old Newbie? on: September 15, 2013, 07:40:22 AM
Haha, it's nice to see another old newbie hanging around. I too like you joined a couple of years back but I was nearly always a lurker so I didn't have much to say. Nice to see you and have a great time! Smiley
1931  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Giving away 3 BTC divided equally to 50 Bitcointalk forum members on: September 15, 2013, 07:38:08 AM
It's hardly surprising that he's targeting the newest members of the Bitcoin fraternity for this scam as none of the older members would even believe this for a moment. Clearly, he was simply trying to make a few quick bucks off of getting people to run that toolbar and never had any actual intention of paying out.

1933  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Best Online Wallet? on: September 15, 2013, 02:38:39 AM
Personally I would recommend using something like blockchain.info sheerly for the number of precautionary steps you can enable on your account to make sure you don't lose your bitcoins. Then again, a cold storage option would also be quite safe (and would be better for large amounts of BTC) if you could manage to keep enough offline encrypted backups.
1934  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do people sell Bitcoins on eBay? on: September 15, 2013, 02:36:06 AM
Aren't sellers subject to chargebacks?

They most certainly are. Despite what people are trying to do, I don't think there is actually a viable loophole and as such I would advise against selling Bitcoins via eBay and using PP.
1935  Economy / Economics / Re: Invest a Small Amount in Bitcoin on: September 15, 2013, 02:33:59 AM
Well fundamentally we need more people to be using it as a currency promoting it's use as a trading commodity. Without acceptance by a larger audience, I doubt that the price will rise significantly (unless we have another bubble) anytime in the near future. I've invested quite a hefty sum into Bitcoins and I'm sure a lot of others have too, what we need to hope for is simply more widespread adoption and more keen investors.
1936  Other / Meta / Re: Torrent with this forum contents on: September 15, 2013, 01:42:48 AM
Don't worry, the NSA has backups.

I'm sure they'll hand those over if you ask nicely.
1937  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: St. George bank Australia blocked my account for buying BTC via localbitcoins on: September 15, 2013, 12:15:11 AM
I've never heard of St. George giving any issues with Bitcoin payments in the past, maybe it's a possible policy change recently? As far as I know, most of the other banks are a lot more welcoming to people using BTC, in particular NAB.
1938  Economy / Gambling / Re: What makes a gambling site successful? on: September 14, 2013, 11:54:53 PM
For me, the site layout must be attractive and easy-to-use (functionality is key). Aside from the standard "provably fair" it should be off the blockchain (faster transactions) and have a chat.
1939  Economy / Economics / Re: what do you think......paypal on: September 14, 2013, 09:18:34 AM
Yeah, once you've filed a dispute and closed the dispute he could quite easily simply not pay your allocated BTC. Unless he has a great reputation (and even then these things can happen), personally I would avoid it or if your determined for it to go through do it via escrow.

As a side note, the post count is from now to the end of the month right? (not for a period of 30 days)

Thanks.
