1021  Economy / Services / Re: PB Mining -- 5 year mining contracts! on: April 13, 2014, 02:52:42 AM
I've been researching this along time and following at C#@.io. There paying close to 19%  in fees and who cares we dont know where were mining.

It matters because AFAIK they haven't actually provided any evidence that they have been mining at all. It's not hard to point to a tx where there the 25 BTC reward comes from and yet they haven't done it. I'd be more than happy to keep quiet if they would post some verifiable proof that this is legit. It's all to easy for it to be a ponzi - it fits the bill exactly. As an investor myself, I don't like saying this but this is what it looks like.
1022  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exporting private keys from multibit to blockchain *uncrypted* on: April 13, 2014, 02:47:51 AM
and you helped the scammer to steal people's keys, you basically mentored him!
when he spread trojan keylogger from his bogus website - good job, guys!

the last guy was got for ~ 3.500 $

sadly

I don't see how it's our fault if people are unable to have a secure password/use 2FA. People should have a little more common sense than that. Not to mention this information is available freely on the wiki and on the Blockchain site.
1023  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Blizzard should accept bitcoin on: April 13, 2014, 02:45:01 AM
Sure they should - but let's be realistic here, even if they did they'd just use BitPay and convert it back to fiat anyways. Doesn't exactly support the system considering all they are using it for would be as an alternative payment processor rather than its own merits.
1024  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Too much scamming in Bitcoin on: April 13, 2014, 02:43:30 AM
That is an over simplification. Yes... I agree party. Bitcoin owners who are too trusting, less intelligent and having lower levels of computer knowledge are more likely to get hacked compared to others. But at the same time, we take proud comfort in saying to the general public that the Bitcoin is a currency for everyone, not just the high-IQ types.

I really wouldn't equate intelligence with the ability to take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent loss of their BTC. While intelligent people may be more likely to read about how to have security in place - so too can a layman provided they aren't lazy/disinterested. Anyway, I wouldn't be too worried - most people using it at the moment are somewhat tech savvy and the corporations that support BTC in the future will help to babysit the people who are less knowledgeable in these matters.
1025  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: MSI R9-270 [AUS] on: April 13, 2014, 01:25:15 AM
You might want to consider lowering the price. It's priced @ $239 retail.

1026  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How difficult it is to actually trace someone's transaction? on: April 13, 2014, 01:17:57 AM
And btw, the info isn't for me. I have a friend who's about to shut down a website and take off with everyone's coins and claim the site got hacked, so he wants to make sure none of it's going to come back to him.

Pretty shitty friend you got there man. And why exactly would you be helping him in this (on the assumption you guys aren't one and the same)...

You know, you guys are awful sensitive to the topic of scamming when you're supporting a currency that basically has all the properties an internet scammer wants out of a payment system.

Of course we're going to be sensitive - what your 'friend' is trying to do is unethical and morally wrong.
1027  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is MINING actually WORTH it now? on: April 13, 2014, 01:10:52 AM
Thanks to everyone who gave a helpful response.

I have zero intention of doing it as a hobby or for fun.  If I invest money, it is to MAKE money.  I would want it first off to break even.  If it takes a year to break even, then it is not worth it, as there are many other things I can do to make money and get a return faster.

Worth it = making more than I have invested.

Short amout of time...weeks? months?  NOT years.

Are BTC still awarded every 10 mins?

BTC are created roughly every 10 minutes. The difficulty factor is set such that the time taken to solve a block approximates 10 minutes but it can vary quite significantly.

My advice - find something else to invest in as you either a) won't make money b) barely break even. The costs associated with waiting for your orders and electricity mean it's not exactly profitable.
1028  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Your Bitcoin storage solution? "Share It!" on: April 13, 2014, 12:52:20 AM
of course that leaves me with the whole "and then my house burned down and took my fortune with it." scenario... never seen a good solution there. maybe n of m passphrase type stuff? multiple statues or other QR codes hidden at home, office, bank vault... *shrug* i'll nail it down before i implement anything.

Best option IMO would be to have an encrypted USB that you have in a safe deposit with your bank. It might cost you $50-100 a year but if you have enough coins it's really rather valuable enough to warrant it. That way unless there is a natural disaster that affects both your bank and your house you should be fine.

Well, I don't think it will be popular though... What are the rules? Martingale? Then the winner is the one who has more on his deposit. Makes no sense to me, boring and tiresome without bet multiplication... Shocked

And I leave the question of fairness. If this pvp will be much more fair (or even fairer), it plain shit means that now the rolls are not  Cool

I'm doubtful martingale would work as even without a limit, you'd be hard pressed to find users willing to take someone's bet at the higher value bets. It's just part of distribution - there are logically less whales than the normal bettor.
1031  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How difficult it is to actually trace someone's transaction? on: April 12, 2014, 09:50:44 AM
You know, I am new here, and as happening to all discussion communities, I give more emphasis on senior or "hero" as called answers.

But this case degrades this point of thinking.

ps. So "older and wiser " does not apply here?

Sr and Hero posts on technical matters are in general more sound, in particular pay attention to DannyHamilton & DeathandTaxes as I've found that their technical responses as they are well informed. Most (and I emphasise most) VIP/Donators are also very technically competent.

As far as matters regarding ethics some members no matter what rank they hold are far more vocal as this case demonstrates. What I'm saying is that it's best to avoid making sweeping generalisations about members - don't lump all Sr and Hero members in the same group. Trust me at every level here and society in general there will be people you don't like/disagree with but it doesn't mean everyone at that level is just as bad.

On your final point, I only speak for myself when I state that - not everyone on this forum/rest of the world. I'd like to think I'm not so arrogant that I know everyone that well.
1032  Other / Meta / Re: Why does it say "changing Avatar is currently not possible"? on: April 12, 2014, 09:31:30 AM
It's disabled for everyone because of security.
what kind of security  Huh ?

IIRC one of the hacks that occurred in event history was as a result of a flaw that stemmed from avatars. Hence they were disabled to temporarily solve this issue and theymos has no plans on re-enabling this functionality.
1033  Other / Meta / Re: How can we (Bitcointalk) improve this forum ??? (This is 2 help further BTCoin) on: April 12, 2014, 09:29:21 AM
.
Add 2-factor authentication? Smiley

We sure need more security on the forum.

And yet theymos has stated that this will not be happening either as the result of his or Slickage's work meaning that someone else will have to do this. I find it rather laughable that it's costing us so much for new forum software and yet we can't even have 2FA enabled.
1034  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How difficult it is to actually trace someone's transaction? on: April 12, 2014, 09:22:07 AM
You are right.

But, wouldn't expect a hero member asnwering like a 10 year old bully.

Yes and no. Some members have a propensity to be quite a bit more blunt when it comes to their views. Just a part of human nature.

1035  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How difficult it is to actually trace someone's transaction? on: April 12, 2014, 09:12:00 AM
You are a hero member.

I cant believe you give such answers.

Shame on you!

A Hero member is a person nonetheless and like any person on this forum is entitled to his opinion. I don't know why there is some misconception that Hero members have to be nicer, more knowledgable and ethical than the rest of the forum base. Some are - but as evidence will show you some aren't.
1036  Economy / Lending / Re: Need LOAN 0.1 pay back in 24 hours on: April 12, 2014, 06:17:56 AM
i said predicting not predicting correctly all the time

That is even worse. If you cannot 'predict' better than the rest of us, what use is your apparently mathematics defying bot.
1037  Economy / Lending / Re: Need LOAN 0.1 pay back in 24 hours on: April 12, 2014, 06:07:56 AM
Wait until April 15th, no need for a loan.

And the house bankroll will be a little larger in a few minutes from then.

@OP: You're lying - it is mathematically impossible for you to 'predict' rolls so you offer no advantage to any individual who could bet themselves. Unless you have infinite money, and no betting limits martingale will eventually fail and you will go broke. The reality is that:

1. You scam and never pay back.
2. You lose all your money and never pay back.

And just saying - if you could 'predict' rolls there'd be much larger problems like the whole premise of mathematics failing. So yeah, unless you're telling me you've successfully proven mathematics wrong go try and scam somewhere else.
1038  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CEX.IO on: April 12, 2014, 04:42:34 AM
Also, I suggest you don't mine on cex.io, since it is highly unprofitable and nearly impossible to break even.

This. Just buy and 'hodl'. Trust me it'll work out better for you in the end - unless you're willing to sit at your computer all day and daytrade for a few cents you're going to lose money. Just get a job and invest some of your earnings into BTC.
1039  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is MINING actually WORTH it now? on: April 12, 2014, 04:30:13 AM
if it isn't profitable, people wouldn't be mining

Not necessarily, people whose preorders came late are probably losing money, but they are mining to reduce their losses. It doesn't actually mean they are making profit off of it.

@OP: It would probably be more effective for you to invest a % of your wealth into BTC and then watch where that goes rather than trying to run a large scale mining operation as all in all you won't make much for the effort and time - probably better to just work a day job.
1040  Other / Meta / Re: Forums 2FA ? on: April 12, 2014, 04:28:05 AM
Has there been any consideration for implementing 2FA for logins ?

There has. As theymos is unwilling to do so, a bounty for the a project was placed by Stunna here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=364307.0
However, no one has offered to complete the task - so I believe we won't be seeing it in this forum or the new one.
