1921  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin been hacked?? Are your BTC safe??? on: June 10, 2021, 07:47:20 PM
The FBI managed to retrieve most of the $4.4 million cryptocurrency ransom payment in Colonial Pipeline hack.

Can they also confiscate YOUR crypto funds if they wanted to??

What do you guys think about this...
The bitcoin network is safe. It was never hacked. Threads and titles like yours are the ones that spreads FUDs and rumors. A quick google search and reading a news from an authentic source might have answered your question. The FBI probably seized the wallets with the private keys. Not hack them.
No they can't confiscate your funds as long as you don't give them your private keys. But if you store your coins on a custodial wallet, the organization that has access to your keys might give it to the FBI for legal reasons.
1922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China's official view of El Salvador on: June 10, 2021, 07:30:09 PM
Wang Yongli, Former Vice President of Bank of China: Countries that lack sovereign currencies will not succeed in using cryptocurrencies as legal tender.

Wang Yongli, former vice president of Bank of China and chief economist of Shenzhen Neptunus Group, pointed out in an interview. Some countries lacking a sovereign currency lack the most basic understanding of currency, and use fully decentralized digital encrypted assets such as Bitcoin as legal tender. The economic and social operations will be severely disrupted due to its own price fluctuations. The country has no means of control and can only go to destruction on its own.

I think his statement is unreasonable.

In the past ten years, China has said that Bitcoin is only used as a personal investment, without large institutions or government endorsements. After large institutions began to invest in Bitcoin, they said that Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme, a playground for capitalists. When some countries recognized it as legal tender, they used the lack of sovereign currency as an excuse to ignore the facts. I very much look forward to what new excuses the Chinese government will have when more and more sovereign countries in the world use Bitcoin as legal currency.

I am a Chinese, but if the country loses a key strategic opportunity in the era of digital currency pre-emptive due to the nonsense of a certain person, these historical and national sinners will surely be stinking for thousands of years.
Oh no, not the Chinese government again bashing other countries and trying to interfere with something that doesn't concern them. That's obvious that his statement is unreasonable. China just being China over here. Their government won't let their people have any power at all. Imagine if the whole world makes bitcoin a legal tender, and China being forced to do so (having no other option but to follow what's happening). Would be fun to see their government giving power to their people.
1923  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin... Stop being so hard to defend on: June 10, 2021, 05:59:44 PM
What would happen if Bitcoin was NOT such an easy target. People often operate as superficial difference engines. They see the obvious  and whats directly in front of them. Bitcoin offers up low hanging fruit for people to attack Bitcoin imperfections. What would happen if Bitcoin plunged the holes in the leaky ship? Seems every time Bitcoin gains ground. The same old derogatory talking points emerge  “Energy consumption” , “Scalability” and “Slow” sends it backwards. What if Elon couldn’t say anything about Bitcoin power consumption cause there was NO massive energy consumption. The Bitcoin community often will defend the shortcomings of Bitcoin by rationalizing the flaws as a NEEDED or an acceptability causality. This is called Confirmation bias. We have heard the most amazing arguments in pursuit of justifying Bitcoins shortcomings. Imagine if we -snip-
Who said bitcoin was perfect? Everyone is aware of the flaws that bitcoin currently has. And everyone believes that we will come up with a solution that will help us solve the underlying drawbacks without altering the main protocol and security of bitcoin. Nothing is perfect. Literally everything in the world has a problem or two. People will keep on defending what they believe. It's a good thing, isn't it? It shows how strong the community is and how much people believe in it. The only ones that shit talks about bitcoins are the ones that doesn't really understand what it is and how it works. And then there are those people that tend to trash talk about bitcoin because they want to promote their own project, which isn't a good way to do so.
1924  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Prayer and gambling. on: June 10, 2021, 03:56:35 PM
Often times in my country, i have visited a sports betting shop to place my bet, and each time before I am about to do so, i always look out to the other service booths where bettings are received for other other individuals placing their bets as well.

Each time, i notice that out of the five service booths in this sports betting shop, it is common to see two or sometimes three individuals out of the five occupying the service booths always bow their head and mutter some words solemnly, a prayer i suppose.

Big questions - Do spiritual beings get involved or influence gambling results in the favour of those who pray to them?

Have you ever prayed before placing a bet (gambling)?
Did it work?

If you believe it does work, examine this scenerio.
If we both worship and serve same god, and we place our bets on the same games, in a manner that our bets are opposites, and we both say a solemn prayer to this our god before casting our bets, Who will this god favour?
Lol no. Praying doesn't change your odds of winning a bet. And no, "spiritual beings" does not get involved or influence your gambling outcome. I guess the people you saw that were "praying" were not actually praying? They were just "hoping" and "wishing" that the next bet is a win. Like you know, how you mutter to yourself "please be a winning bet, please please". Something like this.
If praying would change your bet outcome, casinos would go bankrupt.
1925  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Bitcoin/ETH replace fiat someday? on: June 10, 2021, 02:26:45 PM
Bitcoin or ETH, they are never going to replace fiat currency. Do you really think the government would like a decentralized currency take over the countries monetary system? Nope. Never. They won't give the power to the people. It would just make them weaker. Its either going to be strictly regulated crypto currencies being used along with fiat currency or the government themselves making some sort of centralized crypto currencies. So the fiat currency may someday be replaced by a centralized crypto currency, but highly unlikely to be replaced by bitcoin or ethereum.
1926  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discipline hodling altcoins in the face of challenges. on: June 10, 2021, 12:33:57 PM
We all have a level of discipline when it comes to HODling but that discipline is tested by the the level of challenges we face. Everyone has challenges, true...but the challenges are different for everyone, some more peculiar to others.
You are right. Holding can be quite challenging. Especially when the market becomes very volatile or some events take place that will affect the market. Bearish market also tends to break some people.
I had a conversation with a friend today who was excited that he was able to discipline himself, ignore the financial challenges he had and still was able to HODL  his many altcoins without selling even when he had some  pressing needs.
Good for him. He had extra money lying around which helped him not to sell his coins. That is not always the case though.
I agree that there will always be needs and challenges, but the big questions are?
Will you Judge someone who sold his altcoins in the face of a situation
which he did not see any way out of financially other than to liquidate some assets as not disciplined enough?
In the face of a life threatening situation that finance is the solution to, will you still hold on to your coins knowing that liquidating some or all will get you out of the situation? Or will you wait for help from above or somewhere else?
There is nothing to judge. You don't have to keep holding. If you need money and you have no other options but to sell your coins, then sell it. No need to make things more complicated than it is. I would avoid taking unnecessary help (borrow) from anyone. It would become more of a nuisance to return those money.
1927  Economy / Exchanges / Re: PayPal vs Coinbase: Which one is better crypto platform? on: June 09, 2021, 10:33:57 PM
Both are shit to be holding your crypto currencies. They are both are centralized. None of them gives you access to your private keys. Don't forget, not your keys, not your coins. Paypal is even more bad because as far as I know, you don't actually buy any of those bitcoin. It's paypal. They hold it for you. You can't send those coins to any external wallet. You can only use it where paypal is accepted. At least coinbase lets you spend those coins as you wish.
To help you choose between the two, PayPal locks out their users when they feel like there is a suspicious activity when there really isn't any of it, they are just being overreactive and hyper vigilant.
What's stopping coinbase from doing that? They can lock your funds too.
1928  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Who is selling? on: June 09, 2021, 06:35:09 PM
Like I get the markets move but is this big wallets, ancient wallets? Who is actually selling? Normie noobs who just got in the market and are spooked by comments?

I dream of the day when alt coins are not tied to the price of bitcoin. Uhg...
People that are new. People that hasn't experienced a crash before. And then there are people that were holding for years, but didn't sell during ATH and selling now because they are scared. In other words, panic selling because they think the price is going to drop more and won't recover. Its better that this is happening. The more this happens, the more the people will be aware of such situations. The less we will see this kind of panic selling in the future. Unfortunately, I doubt your dream will come true. Price of altcoins will always be tied to bitcoin.
1929  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading is Easy dont be afraid just on: June 09, 2021, 04:28:39 PM
Lol you are making it sound like its a piece of cake while it isn't. It is not as easy as you think. And what do you mean by "don't buy when it's green?". The price is "green" right now. So you are telling people not to buy now? That would be stupid. Even if the price is going up, if you can afford to invest, then invest. Or else you will lose your chance to buy. You are all good as long as you are not selling at a loss.
1930  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Please Relax About the FBI News.. on: June 08, 2021, 09:19:38 PM
No way they cracked the private keys or something. The FBI doesn't have those tech yet. People are just trying to create fear. That's it. This is how rumors are spread. And those
"news portals" and "media" uses those rumors as a bait to attract viewers/readers while probably others are taking advantage of this to cause the price to crash further so they can stock up more bitcoins to maximize their profit. So either FBI seized the coins with the help of coinbase, a centralized wallet and exchange or the hackers were dumb to not secure their wallets. And this is why we shouldn't be using centralized wallets.
1931  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do You Think Elon Musk Is Afraid? 72 Hrs Have Passed And No BTC Tweet! on: June 08, 2021, 09:07:44 PM
Not to mention Doge. It looks like he is busy changing all his passwords due to the latest Anonymous video... what do you think? Is Elon becoming a smart boy now?

Does he think twice before posting anything online? Is the FUD master left out of ammunition? Poor guy. What a hard life.
What anonymous video are you talking about? Did Anonymous say that they are going to hack Elon and steal all his crypto? Lol, they are a joke most of the time. I doubt Elon is scared of them or something. Someone like him won't be storing his crypto like an idiot. And he probably isn't tweeting much anymore because he is aware if he keeps on doing this, he will be put under constant pressure.
And yeah, he thinks a lot before he posts anything. If he didn't he would be in big trouble right now.
1932  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Question about bitcoin taxes and signature campaign payment on this forum on: June 07, 2021, 10:51:11 PM
Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies generally are banned in my country for now, but I know the government will still one day legalize cryptocurrencies. If cryptocurrencies are later legalized in my country and paying crypto taxes are mandatory, what do you think about this below.

All what I have read about crypto taxes are:
  • only capital gain will be taxed
  • capital gain will not be taxed if there is a capital loss until no losses again

With all I have read about crypto taxes, I do not yet know how I should pay crypto tax for any signature campaign paid on this forum unless the bitcoin paid later has net increase. But if it has not yet increase in value, this means no taxes to be paid. Is that correct?
Depends on the law of your country and how they see crypto currencies. If you have accumulated just few hundred dollars through signature campaign, I doubt its going to be a huge issue if you know what I mean(I am not suggesting you to avoid tax or anything. Always do what you think is right.). But since it was illegal in your country, and you still were using, trading, earning or buying bitcoin, you should probably talk to an expert before you think of disclosing your coins to the officials.
1933  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Where to seek help if you need; concerned with gambling addiction. on: June 05, 2021, 04:45:12 PM
Before getting in touch with those peer support groups and organizations, let your loved ones know about your problem. Things are going to be easier when you talk to them about your issue. Don't hide it from them. Nothing to be ashamed of. They will support you and you journey to get rid of your gambling addiction is going to become very much easier than it would be. First step is self realization, second steps is to talk to someone you trust about it and the final step is to get professional help. This is how it should be.
1934  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: My Crypto Youtuber Tier List on: June 05, 2021, 04:40:09 PM
Lol, how do you know they never "took any offers". Do you know what's happening behind the scene? Nope, you don't. Sorry to disappoint you, but most of the youtubers get paid to promote projects and coins. They do it in such a way that you won't even know that they are shilling for it. Do you just trust them because they "made some good calls" before? I am sure they got either very lucky or called the obvious. There might be some legit youtuber, but most of them are just shilling for money.
Why do you have to follow some youtubers when you could be doing your own research?
1935  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Economic Costs of Gambling on: June 05, 2021, 04:21:51 PM
-snip-
-snip-
I see many neighborhoods in my area that have become criminals due to depression and become a financial cost to the family.
You are saying people become criminals due to depression? Its wrong and very insensitive of you to say things like this. Have you ever met a person who suffers from depression? Calling them criminals or judging them make things worse for them. If you think depressed people tend to become criminals and are a financial burden to their families, you should never try to interact with one. You will just be harming them more. Try to learn a bit more about depression. And please don't think I am being hostile or anything towards you Smiley.
1936  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin is the fastest asset to hit 1 trillion marketcap on: June 05, 2021, 04:11:39 PM
Not surprised to be honest, but very impressive. The only snag is that bitcoin might lose its market capitalization with seconds where as apple, google, amazon and other top stocks won't lose their market capitalization very easily. Even though bitcoin lost its 1 trillion marketcap, 600 Billion isn't bad at all. Anyway, you shouldn't be comparing stocks with bitcoin. They are two different things which can't be compared with each other.
1937  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Economic Costs of Gambling on: June 05, 2021, 02:27:11 PM
Hi,

in this thread I would like to address a very important topic: Economic Costs of gambling.

-snip-

1. Gambling in fact has many negative externalities. If someone gets addicted, the likelihood is much higher to be depressed. Depression is factor, which leads to high costs for the society.

2. Gambling addiction leads to economic costs because of crime actions. Other market actors have to increase their security standards, which means higher costs.

3. Many gambling addicts go as a consequence to jail. Jail means EXTREMELY high costs to society.

What are your thoughts on this topic?
1. People can get addicted to anything. Yeah, getting addicted is not a good thing. There are places and organizations that help with addiction. If you think you are or someone you know is suffering from addiction, then get help for you or them.

2. Not everyone who gambles are involved with crime.

3. I though they go to the streets and become homeless haha.
1938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are MEME Coins A NEW Trend on: June 04, 2021, 11:09:22 PM
With the rise of Doge Coin, there have been countless MEME coins launch on different platform.
What are you thoughts on meme coins? Are they bad for the industry? Or Are they a gateway drug for newbies to enter the game?
Oh yes, meme coins are the current trend now. You just have to find which one is going to get pumped out of the thousands of other meme coins. In other words, you have to get very lucky and be smart. If you get lucky, you will get rich over night, but if you don't act smart, you will lose everything. By smart, I mean you sell when you make profit. Don't keep on holding because once the trend is over, the price is going to get dumped and you will lose everything you invested.
1939  Economy / Speculation / Re: Don't you think Bitcoin will die over the summer? on: June 04, 2021, 10:56:04 PM
Recently, the price of bitcoin has dropped by almost 1/3.  The beginning of May is 58 thousand, now it is already 38 thousand. The chart is steadily falling down.  Will Bitcoin die in the summer? Cheesy
You have never seen the price crash before? You must be new here. Look at the charts and try to learn something from it Smiley . Most of the people were already expecting the price to fall after the huge bull run. It is very normal. Compare the current price with the last ATH few years back. You will see that bitcoin is actually up in price. Why do you people keep on thinking that crypto currencies will dies when the price falls? Lol, do you say the same when the price of stock or gold drops?
1940  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can BTC become the world central currency? on: June 04, 2021, 10:43:39 PM
At a time when the world is clamouring for peace and unity among the countries of the world- developed and developing.
There is a major limitation, which is the different currencies of the countries. These fiat currencies are controlled by different policies and economic situations of their different countries.
This posses a threat to global financial unity. As many countries are under banked. At the height of these challenges, came a pseudo human called Satoshi, who created what seems like 21st century wonders(bitcoin)

From 2009 till date, bitcoin suffered too many set back, ranging from disbelief to doubt about its future.
But 10 years down the tunnel is a great improvement and acceptance of the first cryptocurrency - bitcoin.
The huge acceptance lead to the creation of several altcoins.

Now many countries are willing to involve in the cryptocurrency world  despite some restrictions in some countries because according to an African adage "No one knows the Goose that will lay the golden egg".
I am seeing in the future where BTC will become a unified currency for the whole world.
Based on current situation, it really is not going to happen. If it does happen, be prepared to pay absurd fees for transacting anything. Look at how crazy the fees are when the network is underload. Now imagine the whole world using bitcoin at once. You will have to pay insane fees to get your transaction included in a block. Something has to be done about this. We need a proper solution that won't comprise the current protocols and security measures bitcoin has taken. Or else bitcoin is always going to be a store of value. Not a regular currency that can be used for day to day transaction.
