1941  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: More platforms will bite the dust? on: January 09, 2023, 12:46:25 AM
The much endorsed cryptobank might also be another platform that might bite the dust? It appears that everythng might be nearing the very bottom with all these crypto platforms capitulating everywhere.

It also appears they want a bail out when their executives mentioned that they might become a takeover target hehehe. It will not be shocking if CZ's team is talking to them already.

Silvergate Capital Corp. shares plunged after the bank said the crypto industry’s meltdown triggered a run on deposits, prompting the company to sell assets at a steep loss and fire 40% of its staff.

Customers withdrew about $8.1 billion of digital-asset deposits from the bank during the fourth quarter, which forced it to sell securities and related derivatives at a loss of $718 million, according to a statement Thursday. Executives said on a conference call that Silvergate may become a takeover target.

1942  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: [Poll] What are the safest platforms? on: January 08, 2023, 01:23:29 AM
I'm currently and only using kucoin, it's the only exchange that i'm using beside the local one in my country.
Well, there's no kyc requirements there, at least for now, so I can say i'm trusting them for exchanging purpose. Note that i'm not holding my funds there, i just use it for its purpose, all is stored in my custodial wallet.
It's the same in every top exchange — only use it for its purpose, to exchange not to hold and alternative for wallet.

I am quite certain everyone in the forum very much agrees hehe.

It is Binance and Kraken for the safest platforms, however, I am beginning to speculate that Binance might become more risky when the trial for Sam Bankrupt-Fried begins on October. I am quite certain CZ's dump of FTT will be mentioned and they will make it appear as something similar to a liquidity attack that triggered FTX's destruction. This might begin another investigation and this time it will be on CZ.
1943  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gervonta Davis VS Hector Luis Garcia SAT, JAN 07, 2023 on: January 08, 2023, 12:29:42 AM
Everyone is talking about Tank Davis, however, it appears that much of us fans of boxing in the forum did not notice a very important fight for the IBF welterweight division. This is Boots Ennis vs. Karen Chukhadzhyan for the IBF interim welterweight championship.

Why the interim welterweight championship for IBF? This is because Errol Spence cannot make a mandatory defense for his IBF championship because he has another mandatory defense for his WBC championship. The IBF is also very strict and force Errol Spence to make his next mandatory defense against Boots Ennis or give the championship to Ennis.

I am very excited for this because I have told everyone many times that Boots Ennis is the boxer who can win against the kings of welterweight, Spence and Crawford.

In any case, my prediction is Boots will knockout Karen in round 1.

That's what they say, Boots is feared by many in the division. High risk for Karen. Boots stepping up against Spence or Crawford will be a bigger fight, but he can't be that comfortable at 147 against the top contender may at 154. There is just no offer for money to make but I think he'll get there after Ortiz.

This is not the highlight because Tank is the main event. Too late to create a thread.

I am not quite certain why anyone would consider if Chukhadzhyan is high risk or not because he is certainly a type of opponent who is below Boots' previous 2 opponents. He might also not be the main event, however, I reckon that he might give a better show than Tank Davis hehe. I speculate Hector Garcia might make it difficult for Davis and this fight might end with a decision. My bet is over 7.5 rounds.
1944  Economy / Speculation / Re: Who thinks DCG / Genesis / Grayscale / Barry are bad actors? on: January 07, 2023, 04:29:37 AM
First sentence made me question him right away:
Quote
1) they conspired w FTX to attack Luna and steth and made a fair bit doing so
So we should believe him despite the fact that he didn't provide any proof of it?
This is pretty serious accusation and with that amount of people following him, there will be damage.
Which makes me think he might get sued for defamation, because it's hard to prove conspiracy even with evidence, and he just decided to accuse them without any ammo.

It might be true or it might not, however, what is true is we in bitcointalk.org appear to have no knowledge of much of what is happening in the cryptospace. I reckon there is some truth to what Su Zhu has tweeted. He might be a corrupted gambler, however, he might not be lying about this. But he might have an agenda in exposing the truth hehehe.

In any case, on stETH/ETH depegging, @lookonchain has this analysis onchain that shows that Su Zhu might be telling the truth.

1945  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: More platforms will bite the dust? on: January 07, 2023, 03:47:16 AM
News update.

According to some people in social media, the exchange has shutdown internal communications groups for employees and internal feedback channels following circulating rumors of laying off hundreds more of employees.

Onchain analyzers similar to Nansen have begun recording the outflows from the exchange and it appears they are suffering heavy outflows. If this becomes a liqudity crisis, I reckon this will be something very much like a bank run.

There were rumors that Huobi planned to lay off hundreds of employees in the coming weeks. Perhaps the rumors have now been confirmed, as the exchange said that it will lay off hundreds of employees in the coming weeks.

Ever since the news hit the streets, the TRX token fell by 7.48% in the last 24 hours, followed by Huobi’s HT token, which also lost 11% during the same period, according to the data from CoinMarketCap. Furthermore, TRON’s stablecoin USDD has depegged and is now trading at $0.9787. Now, according to the latest reports, the exchange is experiencing heavy outflows.

According to the Nansen data, the Huobi exchange is witnessing turbulent trading and outflows of $64 million in the last 24 hours. On-chain data also reveals that the exchange has experienced over $100 million in weekly outflows.

Thank you Jim Cramer for giving us your signal that this bear market is at an end heheehehhe.

In any case, Barry Silbert might be the last to cause another waterfall of dumping if he is forced to dump some bitcoins and altcoins in his custody. However, I am not very pessimistic. Barry will not occur into something similar to Sam hehe. But reading the news updates on him has been a comedy show. Coindesk has to publish bad news about their owner.

As i predict another weak year for crypto, i do ponder how many people are still involved, now many millions of people....

1948  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Crypto lender Celsius mulls possible restructuring amid financial woes on: January 06, 2023, 02:01:36 AM
News update. The judge ruled that all the cryptocoins that were deposited in Celsius were the property of Celsius. The company does not need to send their depositors back their money thanks to what was written in their terms of use. This quite represents not your keys, not your coins.

A federal bankruptcy judge ruled cryptocurrencies deposited into interest-bearing accounts at Celsius Network, a now-bankrupt cryptocurrency lending platform, actually belong to the firm — thanks to the fine print.

The verdict gives Celsius ownership of the $4.2 billion in cryptocurrency that users deposited into its high-interest Earn program, according to a 45-page filing from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Southern District of New York on Wednesday.

With the Earn program, Celsius allowed users to deposit cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin, Ethereum and Tether and receive weekly interest payments. Depending on the time horizon and token, the platform offered as much as 18% interest annually.

Also, 18% interest annually, I am not quite certain what type of ponzinomics a centalized service used to pay for 18%, however, this is very common in Defi with autocompounding, velocking and other types of ponzinomics strategies.
1949  Economy / Speculation / Re: [Speculated] Barry Silbert dump on: January 06, 2023, 01:21:03 AM
Honestly both Barry and the Winklevoss twins can make the customers whole. Both of them have enough funds to cover the hole but they refuse and want the other to pay up. The Winklevoss had at one point like 1% of total supply of Bitcoin. They can easily cover the hole and save their brand.

However this is only going to get dragged on for years like MtGox and only the lawyers will be the winners making any money here and the Gemini Earn customers will be the sole losers.

Agreed, however, this is business. Gemini earn depositors' coins were held in Barry Silbert's Genesis Global to earn yield but it appears that Barry sent them to himself in Digital Currency Group as loan from Genesis. Barry should be sending those coins back to Gemini and also pay for the yield earned in Genesis.

There appears something to be happening in DCG that we do not know. I hope not something similar to FTX where there was comingling of funds and mismanagement.

It is very head shaking because Barry said this about the cryptospace hehehe.

There is a daisy chain of borrowers and lenders in the crypto space -- most well capitalized, but some are not

Lots of leverage still in the ecosystem...including in some non-obvious places

Digital Currency Group also closed their wealth management business.

Digital Currency Group, the cryptocurrency conglomerate whose Genesis Global Trading division just announced more layoffs, said it's shutting down a wealth-management division called HQ.

"Due the state of the broader economic environment and prolonged crypto winter presenting significant headwinds to the industry, we made the decision to wind down HQ" as of Jan. 31, the company said in a statement Thursday.

1950  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [Updated] FTX on: January 05, 2023, 02:17:50 AM
My prediction on the conclusion of Sam Bankrupt-Fried's case on October.

He will be fined and he will be freed. His mother's connections with those politicians in Democtratic party will make certain of this because if he is charged guilty, there are important people in FTX that might also be implicated. They will be protected. The case will also mention Binance and CZ's liquidity attack on FTT causing a cascade of dumps that triggered the destruction of FTX. The American government will certainly use this to start a campaign against Binance. They have always looked for a reason to crackdown the biggest exchange, however, CZ appears to play cat and mouse very well hehehe.

However, he cannot play cat and mouse forever against the American government. I will not hold any coin in Binance if the case begin mentioning CZ.
1951  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia betting and discussion (May, 2023) on: January 04, 2023, 03:15:51 AM

And that's the true advantage right there because even though Garcia have the size advantage, Davis here is already accustomed fighting with that scenario and surely he prepared for it because he knows that there will be some times that he'll get to fight with other boxers that are much taller than him and he doesn't want that his size will be the one who will give him the disadvantage despite the KO power he had.

The reach difference isn't small, and I think that is what Ryan Garcia is working out.  Making use of all his advantages.  If executed properly, I think Gervonta Davis may have difficulty moving around and closing into Ryan Garcia.

Ryan Garcia should be careful and I expect the best from him because he had to cancel his fight with Mercito Gesta just train and prepare straightly for his fight with Tank Davis. And yes, I also think that this bout won't be needing a full 12 rounds.

This skipped fight with Ryan Garcia may take a toll on him.  The fight against Gesta is a good way to test his training, there is a possibility of signs of ring rust too because of too much idleness before Ryan's fight against Gervonta.  I think Ryan is getting too confident that can possibly work against him.

I agree, if Ryan will take that advantage of is, being long and used his jab even further in this fight, stiff and strong jab that will let Davis very uncomfortable and can't execute his game play then Ryan might have a chance to win.

And then probably Davis will adjust too maybe in the middle of the fight, maybe put more pressure on Ryan and push him to make that one mistake and then he deliver his knock out, just like what he did against Romero. Very cautious but then when Rolly goes after him, Davis saw that opportunity. So there could be rounds of adjustment for both fighter, and it could be a chess match in the beginning.

However if Tank begins to pressure Ryan, it might also give Ryan some opportunities for a step back before left hook. How is Tank Davis' jaw because it might be also be his test. There are already many people who speculate that Ryan has a glass jaw, but how is Tank's jaw?

According to this article Ryan wants Tank to knock out Hector Garcia out cold hehe. Is Ryan pressuring Tank?

“I want Tank to knock [Hector Luis Garcia] out cold. It will make out fight even bigger,” said Ryan Garcia via ESPN

Game officially postponed... I turned it on right after Hamlin collapsed to the field, all the Bills were praying as the ambulance drove off the field. Sad.

I read some speculations in social media that say the tackle was not very strong and Hamlin might have an undiagnosed medical condition already before this. Others speculated that it might be the effects of the vaccines for the coronavirus hehehe. I shook my head, however, how can we really know it is not?

In any case, what does this imply for the NFL?

1953  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin developer @lukedashjr's wallet was hacked on: January 04, 2023, 01:36:37 AM
I tend to believe more and more it's a prank.

* The story is still only on Twitter and not on Mastodon, although it tells everywhere "Mastodon preferred"
* Stealing from the cold storage would be possible only if the user would be more than incredibly sloppy/uncautious.
* I don't think that somebody for so long in Bitcoin would ask for FBI help, and also would not do it on Twitter.
* Luke Dash Jr is (proudly!) asking for donations for his work; was he indeed owning 200 BTC ?!

I *know* that Peter Todd has confirmed the story, but the things still don't add up.

as for the supposed 'coinjoin mixer' scenario luke hints.. strange thing is his raided coins went into the 1YAR address.. but have not moved out.

Yes, that too; I've followed some of those transactions and it looks more a consolidation of funds than anything else.

This is another skeptical me argument hehehe. This might also be a way to prepare for an exit from holding bitcoin without being persecuted by the community? Claim he was hacked, mix the coins, keep the coins then sell on the next bull market when he has 10x of the present value. This is $20 million and very much enough for his retirement.

DCG delivered to Genesis and your advisors a proposal on December 29th and has not received any response

Reply from Winklevoss

There you go again. Stop trying to pretend that you and DCG are innocent bystanders and had nothing to do with creating this mess. It's completely disingenuous.

So how does DCG owe Genesis $1.675 billion if it didn't borrow the money? Oh right, that promissory note...

Will you, or will you not, commit to solving this by January 8th in a manner that treats the $1.1 billion promissory note as $1.1 billion?

1955  Economy / Speculation / Re: Michael Saylor and Bitcoin or Michael Saylor and altcoin? on: January 03, 2023, 02:59:31 AM
This was an argument jokingly made by one of the forum members that I much respect. We argue and tease each other, however, everything is with respect and we do not take it very serious because we accept the reality that we are not very important people in the cryptospace.

In any case, the argument made is maybe Michael Saylor would have made a better investment if he invested in altcoins, Defi or NFT instead of bitcoin. It appears this article shows that the argument might be correct. The article was published on November 3, 2022, however. It presently might not give us the same conclusion.

I didn't write that because I really think that Saylor should have invested in altcoins, but because you think that from 2020 to today he made all the wrong decisions investing in Bitcoin and considering your positive attitude towards DeFi, NTF and altcoins. Given that the losses of those who, for example, invested in various NTFs are incomparably greater than anyone who invested in Bitcoin, my slightly sarcastic observation went in the direction that Saylor today would not have to worry about what to do with his coins because they would be practically worthless.

Everyone should already know that long-term investing in altcoins has not brought anyone anything good, and I'm sure that Saylor knows that very well. Maybe we should ask Silbert what he thinks about his altcoin adventures and why he is allegedly dumping them all lately?

I never implied that you said Michael Saylor should invest in altcoins. I said this was a joke. However, it opens an argument that what if Saylor invested in altcoins and it appears there are people who have asked this question already and published some articles.

This is another article I found with more data. This was written on November 4.

The Blockchain Center has a dashboard comparing MicroStrategy’s ‘actual’ and ‘what if’ crypto investments. Per data from the same, its current 130k BTC HODLings is currently worth $ 2.679 billion. However, if it had invested in Ethereum, the firm would be owning around 3.5 million tokens worth $5.596 billion. Resultantly, instead of being down by $1.304 billion USD, MSTR would be up by $1.614 billion with ETH.[/i]

Source https://watcher.guru/news/if-microstrategy-invested-in-ethereum-over-bitcoin-what-would-be-its-valuation

This is the dashboard mentioned in the article. I will keep quiet, everyone should see this data.

https://www.blockchaincenter.net/en/there-is-no-second-best/

I also agree on Saylor's long term argument for bitcoin as an investment. We will witness his investments in profit on 2025 or 2026.

On Barry Silbert, bring your popcorn. It is not the altcoins' fault heheheheheheeee.
1956  Economy / Gambling / Re: Neodice.com | Futuristic Dice Platform 🎲 on: January 03, 2023, 02:28:20 AM
Many newbies trying to withdraw and seems that most of them need to wait for several days before neodice process the withdrawal.
However after reading the last post above, it seems that the long waiting withdrawal is a special case because maybe most above newbies are trying to withdraw what they win from bonus without deposit.

I have mentioned this already. There is a $20 minimum requirement for withrdrawals. I reckon if much of these new players have been playing the faucets and much of their coins withdrawn are from the faucets, there might be an argument for abuse. How difficult would it be for 10 people to create 10 different accounts and abuse the site? I am quite certain it will not be very difficult.
1957  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 Oscar Awards betting and discussions on: January 03, 2023, 01:28:09 AM
Kids these days have different way of thinking compared to us before. And their interest might have also been shifted like they focus more on drama and horror movies, gone are the days where cartoons and comedy are the kids favorites. However, I haven’t been interested in Oscar’s betting even before, although I love to watch some of these movies but I have not thinking betting on them.
People and kids are not much interested in award these days - they are more interested in games and action movies.
And we were more interested in awards. The trend is changing. I remember we were so interested in awards and we knew who got what award.

I very much agree! However, for people who still love movies and who also like to gamble for entertainment, what is the best form of entertainment if it is not entertainment betting hehehe.

The categories for best supporting actor and best supporting actress have also been created. I am not quite certain why Ke Huy Wuan is the very big favorite. I speculate this will change after the Golden Globe awards and the official announcement for nominations.

Ke Huy Quan - Everything Everywhere All at Once Wins - 1.36
Brendan Gleeson - The Banshees of Inisherin Wins - 3.24
Paul Dano - The Fabelmans Wins - 4.50

For example, using USB storage to transfer unsigned and signed transaction could  be exploited by specifically designed malware.

Everything looks more than sloppy for a Bitcoin Developer. Surreal. Hot wallet is possible, but a dev's cold wallet... hmm...

While Peter Todd has confirmed the story, also on Twitter, I find it incredible and I still tend to think that's higher chance both Twitter accounts (Luke-Jr and Peter Todd) are compromised than all this story (including Luke calling on Twitter for FBI, come on...). Even more, no sign of this story on his Mastodon/BitcoinHackers account.

Do not attack me for this, however for the skeptical me, another argument mentioned in Luke's thread that made sense was it was done to make everything appear like a hack so Luke can use it to write off taxes. Before you shake your heads on me, I am only saying it makes sense, I am not accusing him. I know Luke is a religious and a God fearing person who will never do something shameful only to avoid paying taxes. If this was Justin Sun it would be different hehehehe.
1959  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 50% Down Move Incoming? on: January 02, 2023, 11:27:47 PM
It appears someone did not get the joke or does not see how Michael Saylor is presently a running joke in the cryptospace. However whether it is a joke or not, Saylor has always made the wrong decisions after 2020.

For people who think like you, Saylor is certainly a joke in every sense, because a man invests in Bitcoin even at a time when most others are selling, because like every time we are in the middle of a bear market, pessimism is at its highest level, and tombstones for Bitcoin spring up like mushrooms after the rain. Maybe it's good to expose yourself to the end, in other words all the people (including Saylor) have been wrong for the last 2 years because they invested in Bitcoin.

Also on Sam Bankrupt-Fried, I reckon I was also the first person to speculate that FTX was going to bite the dust. I speculated him to be the next king in the cryptospace after Changpeng Zhao. I never considered him to be the most intelligent.

Don't give yourself so much importance, all those who have never invested a single cent in that exchange are intelligent people - all the others do not fall into that category, including you. You didn't consider him the most intelligent person? Then someone else got hold of your account and wrote the following:

I think Sam Bankman-Fried is one of the most intelligent founders in the cryptospace, however, I am starting to be more skeptical about his agenda. In the article, he mentioned that bitcoin may have a future as an asset, a commodity or a store of value. I am scratching my head on what he might be implying in his statement. Is he telling us that bitcoin will not forever be no.1 in market capitalization?

It is funny for people who do not worship Saylor. We can joke and laugh lightheartedly because we do not take this serious. It is only very much similar jokes when Jim Cramer makes a bullish prediction. Also, what was funny was the timing of the creation of this thread predicting a 50% dump and Michael Saylor's latest purchases of bitcoin.

I never give myself too much importance. I am only a newsreader who shares the news and who has opinions similar to much of you. I am sorry if you do not like them. I am not quite certain why you are very annoyed with me.

Does saying he is one of the most intelligent the same as the most intelligent? Read the post you have quoted again. I was making an argument. I said Sam is one of the most intelligent, however. The argument makes it appear that he might not be as intelligent as mentioned.

Don't give yourself so much importance, all those who have never invested a single cent in that exchange are intelligent people - all the others do not fall into that category, including you. You didn't consider him the most intelligent person? Then someone else got hold of your account and wrote the following:

Ouch, bbc. Heh.

So I don't think someone bought your account or posted on your behalf but when you make a habit of commentary on the news, you end up making contradictory statements every now and then. Think even I find myself guilty of that.

Perhaps time to leave them corporate personalities to themselves and not give them so much exposure? Particularly if you think they aren't intelligent...

I am not sure why he is quite annoyed. It might have started when I implied that thinking anything that is not bitcoin is a scam is stupid.

Congratulations to both of our finalists! I will not pretend that I am not disappointed. I thought the finals was already a certainty for me.

snip

I overestimated my team and I also thought they would give me the same level of performances to the end of the regular season. I also stopped reading the news and other updates on the players. I also stopped checking the waiver wire until it was too late. I wish next season was tomorrow already hehehehehe.
You did well, this is just your second year playing FF and you put together a very good team, during the regular season a consistent output for your starters is key and it showed on your record, but when it comes to the playoffs a single bad game by a few of your players can be enough to get you eliminated.

I did not believe your reply at first and I thougnt you were only making my loss against @Hueristic feel less painful hehehe. However, after witnessing how my team has performed for week 17, I am completely quite angry on why my stupid players did not give me a similar performance during week 16! I want the next season to begin already! Can we organize the draft order earlier? I am certainly going to join next season.
