Gavin Andresen tweet,

 Dark Coin was built, originally, to solve the anonymity problem. Now they introduced what they think is a fix to confirmation times. And yet, it has a fraction of the hashing power being pumped into it.

All of bitcoins hashing is from 1 pool so how is petahashs any better than gigahashes of mining in keeping the network stable, and also the decentralized masternode system should keep the network doublely stable as an extra network layer, or am I missing something?

Agreed. Like Evan said, "Nice try though". We should welcome these challenges, Aswan on DCT found a big one with Zombie change, and we are now stronger because of it. Darkcoin has weaknesses, like anything else, the more we find and patch the better it is for all of us.

Like Kelly Clarkson says, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger!
I've seen other coins (e.g. Navajocoin) do security challenges where the reward was several BTC. This could be put to good use for DRK as well, Google used to do the same for their Chrome browser.

Just my 2 cents Duffs. Smiley

What funny is when DRK stays low for months, none of this came out.
After the rise, there are always attempts to FUD. Whether is it true or not, these actions are always miserable.

He found a critical bitcoin bug some days back, maybe this is more than FUD
The timing is very suspect. The same day DRK gets recognition from The Guardian, this claim surfaces. I bet he is trying to create an opportunity to buy in.

Why does the timing matter?  What matters is whether or not it is true.

Evil-Knievel seems to be a responsible dude, after his discussion with Evan he agreed his initial claims were not correct.  It seems that his original claim came from not fully understanding how the system worked. After his conversation with Evan he believes he may be able to approach it from a different angle, so Evan invited him to try and report back.

Discussions like this are what is needed, anyway, Masternode Blinding is already on testnet and there are substantial changes to the system specially as the inputs are now random. So the conversation seems to be moot, I hope Evil-Knievel sticks for a while and tests the next version.

Hooray for me. I am a Masternoder now. Huge thanks to TaoOfSaatoshi for the fantastic walk-through. Now I'm just waiting for my first payment and looking forward to $100+ DRK price.  Grin

You're quite welcome! Welcome to MN ownership! Enjoy the payments, and get used to updating...

I'd not seen this, looks like someone has hacked a Trezor to work with DRK Smiley

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/trezor-for-darkcoin.4162

The changes have been pushed to the official Trezor firmware repository and accepted. It's no longer needed to 'hack' a Trezor to support Darkcoin; it's compatible right out of the box.

dummy question:
what is Masternode blinding please !?
(I asked before and I did not get a serious answer)

is it hiding the the other MN's , so mine do not know who they are talking to
or
is it hiding general MN IP so they can not be found ??

We need a MASTERNODE BLINDING GUIDE FOR DUMMIES!

Evan on Testnet: Darksend rounds with MN Blinding are 100x more secure!

https://darkcointalk.org/threads/v0-11-2-x-testing.4202/page-3#post-44576

I knew it was more secure, but that's something else!

How can one say they are 100x more secure now, or 90x? I mean, where is this number coming from?

Probability of following Darksend through
  - 4 non-blinded rounds with 10 masternodes* is (10/2300)^4 == 3.5734577849564574e-10
  - 4 blinded rounds with 10 masternodes is ((10/2300.0)^20)**4 == 1.1528508353537067e-189

Each round uses 20 random masternodes of 2300, so you must control 20 of 2300 four times in a row. It's super secure .

Here's the new probablities for each successive round:
  - 1 rounds with 10 masternodes is ((10/2300.0)^20)^1 == 5.826976675086318e-48
  - 2 rounds with 10 masternodes is ((10/2300.0)^20)^2 == 3.3953657171999996e-95
  - 3 rounds with 10 masternodes is ((10/2300.0)^20)^3 == 1.9784716837512123e-142
  - 4 rounds with 1000 masternodes is ((1000/2300.0)^20)^4 == 1.1528508353537028e-29
* attacker controlled
Thank you Evan, for that detailed explanation. That's pretty secure, all right!
1991  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] Darkcoin | First Anonymous Coin | Inventor of X11, DGW, Darksend and InstantX on: March 05, 2015, 06:34:58 PM
Oho Otoh will be happy finally some coins into his e-walls.
edit: Ahhh I forgot Otoh has the walls only @ bitfinex now. So he needs to wait a bit more Wink
The dumps are always on low volume...with high volume the price skyrockets. That's a good sign. Just another high profile adoption will take this coin to the next level, IMHO.

Excuse me if this was mentioned before, but why would We Live Security leave out Darkcoin on this article?: http://www.welivesecurity.com/2015/03/05/five-alternatives-bitcoin/
I've asked them:

https://twitter.com/taoofsatoshi/status/573511358232330240

And on the comment section below (it's currently being reviewed).

I think the first paragraph may have something to do with it "currency of choice for black market transactions"   Cheesy
srsly, they wrote black on white that:
"it (Bitcoin) has been proven vulnerable to hacks and fraud" (which would logically mean that all cryptos are vulnerable to hacks)
and you are worried that Darkcoin is not included in the article?
Whow...

Shit response from clueless journalist. I use the term "journalist" lightly.
Agreed. I just want to see if he gives me an answer, and what it might be.  Cheesy

FUD of the year.

Actually cried a bit I laughed so much.

Can't bring myself to ignore him.

 I really really miss having a pet troll. Some where some quite adamant and insistent... great fun they were... DRK's code quality is invertly proportionate to troll quality.
Seriously, it's really getting pathetic, I don't know why they still try! Once you've become a parody of yourself it's time to throw in the towel....
