201  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 50GH+ AM V2 5Blade Kit w/PS,BBB on: March 08, 2014, 11:16:06 PM
The reasonable price for this here on this forum is 0.5-0.75BTC for both....

I am selling these for less than they have been selling for on eBay!  Buy now for a great deal!

Never compare your prices to those listed on eBay as it's consistently overvalued. You're not going to find buyers at BTC1.13 because for BTC1.11 (at the time of writing) a person can purchase a 180GH/s AntMiner S1 from BitMain and have it in hand within a few days.

If you can find buyers for your hardware on eBay, then go for it. Otherwise cannachris is right; ~BTC0.70 is a fair deal for both rigs.
202  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is taking illegal ads from a ponzi scheme - MakeBtc.org on: March 08, 2014, 02:58:03 PM
So with this on the table, I've got a question:
If a person were to create a piece of malware that does a drive-by install by clicking on a link, would they be able to advertise that link so long as they put in the disclaimer "Clicking on this link gives you malware"? If not, why not?

I absolutely think they would have every right to advertise it with a disclaimer.

While I appreciate your opinion, I'm actually looking for answers from someone who has a deeper understanding of how advertisements are chosen (e.g. moderators).

Without one? No way. But if you're stupid enough to click it, it's your fault.
They're not the ones giving you the virus, your stupidity is.

Technically only partially true. Their assistance promoting the malware may constitute aiding and abetting in known criminal activity.
203  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos is taking illegal ads from a ponzi scheme - MakeBtc.org on: March 07, 2014, 07:57:11 PM
I'm all for viewing banner advertisements to support the forum, but the moment I saw a known Ponzi scheme was being advertised was the moment I disabled ads. Regardless of the common libertarian and caveat emptor ideals on this forum, it's still concerning that anything can be advertised so long as Theymos is paid. At the very least, it's bad PR for the forums.

So with this on the table, I've got a question:
If a person were to create a piece of malware that does a drive-by install by clicking on a link, would they be able to advertise that link so long as they put in the disclaimer "Clicking on this link gives you malware"? If not, why not?
204  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: March 05, 2014, 08:35:15 PM
new firmware download:

http://cointerra.com/firmware-downloads/

has anyone tried it yet?

So far so good on my end, though I'm not holding my breath just yet. I applied the update around 2 hours ago, and it appears that things are running a bit faster. On the original firmware, I ran at around 1.2TH/s (power step '5' since that was the only one that allowed for stability) and the stats always showed one core was dead.

After the update, it seems I'm doing alright at 1.32TH/s (same power step). The stats no longer show the core volts (which is what I used to determine a problematic core to begin with), but now I see...

...the problematic core, Asic1Core1, is showing a value that's not '0000000000000...', so I figured that's a good sign.

I'll give it another day or two. If all looks well, I'll probably try bumping up the power a little and see how it holds up.
205  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: March 04, 2014, 01:51:11 AM
Flame wars with hashfast aside, anybody actually rack mount these?  I'm about to send these to a datacenter but I couldn't figure out what kind of rails to get.  The datacenter said they use 19" wide cabs so is this ok http://www.ebay.com/itm/Athena-Power-RM-Slider-20-20-Length-2U-4U-IPC-Rack-Mount-Case-Slider-Rail-/301108288247?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item461b73daf7

I have no clue about rails and the center is in another state so I'd rather try and get the right stuff

I'm sort of in the same boat, though luckily I had a spare 1U shelf hanging around when I moved my unit into my rack space. I'll be heading back there in the next week or so, and bringing a couple rail kits with me, but my guess is it'll be too late by then!

Let us know how it goes if you do end up ordering those rails.
206  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should we start New Bitcoin? on: March 03, 2014, 05:19:07 PM
We don't need to change the rules and ban the stolen coins. We can simply forget Old Bitcoin and start New Bitcoin, with exactly the same rules, mining hardware and same infrastructure.
If more than 51% of the current bitcoin users do that, the Old Bitcoin will simply fade away...

A concerted effort into forking the network because some people feel the past has been too "unjust" for their liking would be detrimental to the value of both the 'new' Bitcoin and the 'old'.
207  Economy / Securities / Re: [Havelock][KCIM] Korb Investments – Establishing my Investment Firm, part 1 on: March 01, 2014, 04:43:46 PM
Disappointing that the TerraMiner IV is flawed. They should certainly be willing to compensate us for that, they were offering 15% discount coupons to customers who got the less-than-advertised early releases.

Perhaps you suggest they throw in a GSX I card with the next TerraMiner IV delivery since the 400 GH the card supplies is even less than the short fall on your current IV.

We qualify for the 15% discount, but it comes down to whether or not we'll want to use it since that means purchasing more gear from CoinTerra. Based on what I've experienced so far, placing another purchase doesn't seem likely (unless they get their act together).

As for their new GSX card, the problem is I have no idea how the card would be set up (aside from building a PC solely for mining), where it would be set up, or any additional costs associated with running it. Not to mention it won't be shipping for another 5 months (making it nearly obsolete by that time).

What I would appreciate, however, is a TerraMiner II if they A) start selling them again and B) can figure out how to get it into a 2U space ...at half the price and speed, it should come with half the problems Cheesy
208  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Havelock Investments - Exchange feedback/comments on: February 28, 2014, 11:58:07 PM
How long should it be until deposits show up in my account?

Typically just one confirmation in my experience, unless it's been changed. How long has it been since you sent your coins?
209  Economy / Speculation / Re: Thoughts on the month of March for Bitcoin? Predictions? on: February 28, 2014, 09:57:06 PM
I hope we should stabilize sometime later in March and make a base for next rise.

Barring any other catastrophes and negative media attention, I think you're right. My guess is we'll stabilize at some point between $500-$650 for a number of months (sort of like mid-2013). Either way, after all that's happened so far, I don't think we'll be seeing any prices much lower than $500 or so (depending on resistance of course). *crosses fingers*

211  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Ordering from Bitmain's website- how fast does it get delivered? on: February 27, 2014, 02:41:04 AM
I need to know how quickly I should be picking up a new PSU etc for it.

As others have noted, it's probably better to have a PSU already picked out / ordered prior to ordering from BitMain. Your miner will more than likely arrive sooner than your PSU if you ordered today.

Most likely you'll receive your shipment of the Ant before the tracking number, at least that was my experience with Sushi's Group Buy.

This happened to me as well (outside of a group buy). A couple days after I ordered I got a random UPS notification that they would be delivering that afternoon! Though I'm on the East coast, I'm still impressed with BitMain's overall speed.
212  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Havelock Investments - Exchange feedback/comments on: February 26, 2014, 04:35:49 PM
So the share is "attached" to my... what? wallet that was generated by havelock? e-mail?

Your email, I think.

It's your email for those securities administered by TAT anyway (ASICminer, NEOBEE, etc), so I assume it would be the same with others.

Exactly. We receive a full list of all unit holders twice daily (midnight and noon), which contains all holder email addresses and the number of units held each. In the event that something happens to Havelock, I'd have to get in touch with each user for an updated Bitcoin address for payouts. It may not be the most efficient method, but it's certainly better than nothing.
213  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: BTC price Dip, and Mining correlation? on: February 26, 2014, 01:31:18 AM
Mining speed on BTC Guild was 5,671 Th/s when BTC was above 580, now it's at 4845 TH/s and price is below 535. I keep seeing a pattern of it... just saying, I'm thinking some people stop mining when the price drops.

The price is high enough where just about all miners are just profitable in fiat, even if their margins are rapidly slimming. An 800TH/s fluctuation on a single pool can be attributed to a number of factors, including typical mining speed variability, pool switching or load balancing.

isn't difficulty supposed to be lower as well when people stop mining?

If enough miners stop mining, yes, but difficulty readjustment only happens every 2016 blocks. All but one miner could stop mining right now and the difficulty would stay the same until that single miner was able to finish out the rest of the round (which would take a loonnngg time).
214  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: February 24, 2014, 06:57:03 PM
Pooled at BitMinter, but did end up finding a block (fairly recently actually). It's been running for about 5 days, accepted shares submitted so far are bit over 48M (since last reboot, Saturday morning).
That is encouraging.   What HR do you calculate from submitted shares?

Encouraging, maybe, but also *quite* lucky. The unit is hashing at ~1.3TH/s, which hopefully will change with the new firmware coming out soon.
215  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: February 24, 2014, 04:59:48 PM
BTW, Can someone post if they have solved a block (even if you are on a pool) with a CoinTerra please?   I would love to know.   Also, if you know, can you post how long it was hashing or shares submitted?
Thanks.

216  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: February 24, 2014, 04:54:37 PM
thats impressive...  how much are antminers in $/gh?

and how much space and power do 10 antminers take up?

AntMiners are a flat BTC1.45 (so far)...which equates to ~$4.50 per GH/s a current prices (roughly). Runs at about 360W, size is 5.3" x 6.1" x 11.8" (135mm x 155mm x 300mm). You could probably fit 3 in a 4U space.
217  Other / Meta / Re: Wow, you people are messed up! on: February 24, 2014, 02:08:59 AM
If you avoid certain sections of the forum, you get a much better signal to noise ratio.

This ^^

I've set my preferences to ignore the altcoin boards and it made all the difference in finding threads worthy of a response.

As for:
There also appear to be many nice people on here, but by swamping me with a big amount of insufferable posts the (hopefully false) first impression this board gave me and is bound to give anyone is this: Bitcoiners are a greedy, remorseless, partly psychopathic, immature, hateful mob. I am almost sure this is a false impression, but it's what it looks like!

I'd say that generalization applies to any online discussion board where you're able to maintain an anonymous persona. Even so, it seems quite a bit worse now than I've seen in the past, though that's probably because Bitcoin has gained some popularity over the years.
218  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Cointerra Terraminer IV Unboxing and Setup on: February 23, 2014, 06:39:40 AM
So, when CTA0 shuts down and CTA1 is still mining how do I reboot the miner?   Just reboot CGMiner in the web interface?   Have you figured this out yet?
The fans really blow the heat a long way don't they?
I'm not sure when you would ever encounter this scenario, they basically mine as one unit, you don't direct one board to one pool or anything like that, all the hashrate is directed at whatever pool you point it at.  You can SSH in and reboot it that way and it seems to reboot everything.

I had this exact scenario this morning. Woke up to CTA0 offline, but CTA1 still going strong. I ssh'd into the unit and rebooted it, which seemws to bring everything back online (for now).

I am still running into the problem where one of the "cores" will sometimes stop hashing and total hash rate will drops by about 100 GH both locally and on Eligus.  Manifests like this in the stats.

ASIC1Core1 obviously the one not hashing.

Same problem, and same core for me. CoinTerra support noted their releasing new firmware soon that should help with this, but we'll see. It's bad enough I paid for 2TH/s but am only seeing 1.2.
219  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: CoinTerra announces its first ASIC - Hash-Rate greater than 500 GH/s on: February 23, 2014, 06:10:55 AM
One of my units is seriously much worse than the other one, lower overall hashrate and the 2nd board will go down from time to time.  Very frustrating.

They better come out with a serious firmware fix asap.

Same here. One of the cores in the chips seemed to be dead, which (seemingly) resulted in crazy hashing swings. Swapping between power step 4-8 didn't do much of anything...still stuck around 1.2-1.3TH/s. I got in touch with CoinTerra support and they noted some of the issues I'm seeing should be resolved with the new firmware that's coming out soon.

We'll see how that goes...

It's not clear what's left for sale...

Was literally in the middle of asking just that!

I'm interested in a bit of the silver. Feel free to send me a PM, Usagi.
