201  Economy / Speculation / Re: 1 BTC = $7,992.71 should i buy and wait or on: May 23, 2018, 08:17:13 AM
1 BTC = $7,992.71 is it now the right time for a person to buy bitcoins and keep to earn more profits OR i still have to hold?

Currently, the price is even trading at the early part of $7900s which means it has gone further and if you had waited a little, you would have save $90 equivalent if you are still interested to buy. The question you need to ask yourself and anyone in the same dilemma is that, who will be responsible for the outcome of my decision, the moment you know its going to be you totally, then taking the decision should not be too hard to figure out at all.
202  Economy / Economics / Re: help a newbie understand a loss please on: May 22, 2018, 08:11:25 PM
Hi all, please forgive such a nub question but couldn't seem to find this in the forum and there's too many different answers on the 'net.

Picked up some altcoin, they got a cease and desist from the NASAA and looks like the biz could go under. Trying to figure out the best thing to do.

If I hold and the value goes to zero, can I write this off as a loss based on the value at time of purchase? Should I try to just dump it all and pray someone buys?

Thank you
-G

You have just been showed that all that glitters in crypto.trading is not gold and its does not seems to be the way it shows. I guess you saw a coin rising and then dig in only to realise that its a case of pump and dump whose brunt is borne by newbies like this while they make money out of it. Now in this period, you have identify two solid ootions, its then left for you to decide which is the most beneficial of the two. You have learnt your lessons and going forward I hope you will make reference to it before making any further decision.
203  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why do projects after a successful ICO lower the price of their tokens? on: May 22, 2018, 07:58:57 PM
Do you think if the project collects a lot of money for the ICO, why does its token fall in price, immediately after ICO, and investors lose money?

Just do not say that, the bounty hunters lower the price of the token-it's a fairy tale Grin, the normal project always keeps track of the price of its token and buys it without letting it fall to the bottom.

Since we are not allowed to talk about the bounty hunters who dropped the price. I also don't even believe that bounty hunters drop the price because when you look at the percentage being dedicated for bounty purposes, its just a fraction of what is being sold and also most bounty hunters don't get paid until about a month after which means any driving down of price would have been done. But for a serious project, aside those who bought mainly for the purpose of turning out profit, only few really bought because they believe in the project that is why there is always noise about when will it be listed on exchange sites. The moment that happens, they dump and move on to the next project.
204  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Be aware of KYC on: May 22, 2018, 05:38:41 PM
KYC is a procedure that many ICOs implement. It is normal due to the uncertainty in regulations and the multi-jurisdictional scope of most ICOs. However, as investors, we have a serious problem with this, because everytime we want to invest, we have to upload yet another copy of our ID.

If I get scammed and lost my ETH or NEO... well, I can live with that. But if I am scammed and my identity is stolen, the damage can be extreme. Paypal accounts, credit cards, bills, services... the economic disaster can be huge.

What is the solution to this? I have read a bit about projects like CIVIC or The Key, but it seems that ICOs are reluctant to use these. WHY? As investors, we deserve to be treated with maximum care.

You have raised a valid point when it comes with KYCs. Its something that should bother anyone who values his identity because the extent that anomalies can be done due to identity theft cannot be under estimated to the extent of being arrested for fraudulent activities. But at the same time we cannot because of that deny us from reaping the return of good investment. We only need to weigh before trusting them with any of our data.
205  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Crypto shop on: May 22, 2018, 04:49:30 PM
This is just a general idea of a concept I'm trying to build so I came here to see what the general sentiment is.

Thank you in advance for your honest replys.

It depends on what you want to sell exactly and for you to get the right response, you must give a range of items you are considering. Opening a chicken business is also a shop but not something I would participate in because what would be the cost of buying then shipping to my country but opening an electronics shop that would sell quality gadgets and the cost will be reduced from the excessive market price by some percentage including shipping charges is what I would surely consider.
206  Economy / Economics / Re: If the government supports bitcoin instead of the existing currency. on: May 22, 2018, 02:39:26 PM
The government of any state will never make a decision to destroy its own national money and replace it with a crypto currency. The task of any government is the strengthening of national money. From this, the economy of the country is strengthened and increases. Replacing the national currency with a crypto currency will cause the economy to decay and its complete unbalancing because of its high volatility. I think that unlike this forum, there are no children in the governments of the countries and they will never have such a stupid idea in their heads.

I completely agree with your position. There is no point in imagining what is not going to happen. I don't see any government abandoning its own national currency for bitcoin. If they would go for crypto currency, it would be based on their own national currency because the money we see goes beyond paper or mathematics, its part of our identity, our values and our origin which cannot be quantified and bought at any value. The highest we would see is finding a way to accommodate the two and not abandoning to adopt bitcoin.
207  Economy / Marketplace / Re: HTC is planning to build a blockchain-powered smartphone on: May 22, 2018, 09:30:52 AM
HTC is planning to build a new blockchain-powered phone featuring a built-in cryptocurrency wallet.
HTC's Exodus device will make it easier for users to trade cryptocurrencies
The touted Android device, known as Exodus, will come packaged with a universal wallet and hardware support for all major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, as well as featuring decentralised applications.

Head HTC's business and corporate development Phil Chen, who founded the company's virtual reality system Vive, outlined these plans in an interview with The Next Web, also providing provisional schematics.

"Through Exodus, we are excited to be supporting underlying protocols such as Bitcoin, Lightning Networks, Ethereum, Dfinity, and more," Chen said. "We would like to support the entire blockchain ecosystem, and in the next few months we'll be announcing many more exciting partnerships together."

In that next few months is where my interests lies because that is where the outcome of all planning, speculations, prototypes will have to materialise as without that, its mere words and noise that does not move anything. Its really a good one though as it shows to promote crypto currency to a new set of people. I have gotten aware of certain products I didn't even know exist because its a default app on my phone and even if I wanted to get rid of it, I can't as I am left with exploring it.
208  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Selling tokens earned by bounty on: May 21, 2018, 07:37:54 PM
There's nothing much about selling your tokens received from bounty,
Firstly, you check whether the token has been listed on exchange,
If YES! then you move to exchange and proceed to sell.
If NO! You have to wait till the token hit exchange.

There is no three ways to this. The other option is to.put it up for sale on the ANN thread (although this is largely discouraged) but I have seen it happen. You can then sell to anyone who is only interested in keeping long-term but you will have to sell below the ICO price since you are choosing not to wait. Its a risk though, because you might sell and the following week it got listed which would have made more money if you had wait. On the  other hand, it might be the nest decision because some of the tokens might eventually not get listed.
209  Economy / Speculation / Re: What's wrong with Bitcoin now? on: May 21, 2018, 07:32:11 PM
Bitcoin has lost almost 15% of its value since two weeks ago. At the peak around Christmas holidays, it was trading at over $19,000.

Bitcoin investors have been predicting that meteoritic rises will commence any day now. But the price has been hovering in the $8,000-$9,000 range with surprisingly low volumes.

One Good Post: why is Bitcoin price stagnant?

What is happening in the Bitcoin world?  What is the near-term price forecast for Bitcoin?

This topic is better for the speculation section of the forum because its no different than all of the threads you see about questions on when bitcoin would increase or maybe it will crash further, will.it reach the all time high again etc. Nothing is actually wrong with bitcoin, whay happen was that we got accustomed to the period of high price and we continue to make reference to that particular period forgetting that even at the current price of $8000+, its still a way high of appreciation over the same time period last year.
210  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People are joking about Bitcoin on: May 21, 2018, 05:17:59 PM
In recent times, some new ICO companies have been kidding about Bitcoin on Twitter, Facebook for their ICO promotion. I think this promotion way is very negative for Bitcoin. They showed that Bitcoin will be destroyed and their token will become number one. They have presented it in such a way that the price of Bitcoin will not rise anymore. I think this type of promotion is  very negative in the market.

Anyone should not be bothered about news such as that, a lot of time I have seen several altcoin claiming to be the next bitcoin or planning to replace bitcoin. We all know its an advertisement strategy to convince the newbie to buy into their ICO. There is nothing wrong in doing advertisements or trying to portray your coin as the best, but do it in your own way, sell your own project to the populace rather than dragging bitcoin into your own publicity stunt that might eventually pay of because for someone like me, I lose interest in such project.
211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Royal Bank of Canada BANS ALL Cryptocurrency Transactions! on: May 21, 2018, 04:34:29 AM
My bank, RBC has banned all transactions involving crypto.  I can't even fund my Coinsquare account with my debit card anymore.
This is the response I got when I emailed them about it:

"The cryptocurrency environment is continuously evolving. After carefully reviewing the current regulatory, risk, and external environmental factors around cryptocurrency, we've elected to stop facilitating transactions involving cryptocurrency. We will continue to monitor these factors going forward."

This is really a bad one coming from the bank at this time. But would like to know the position of the central bank of Canada's position on the issue of crypto because if they have not taken a position then the bank is just acting up which gives you the option of opening another bank account in another bank and you can just go ahead and carry out your trasactions otherwise, you have to think of ways of carrying out your transactions under the radar or transacting abroad.
212  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Credit/Debit Card Payment Processor that accepts BTC Transactions From Paxful on: May 18, 2018, 09:52:22 PM
If you don't have a website, where are you going to accept the payments? If PayPal is not working for you, you could use some crypto friendly payment methods like Neteller, Skrill etc. Alternatively, I know there is PaymentWall (payment processor) so you may want to check it out but I doubt you will find a service accepting you without owning a site (or a fake one) because most of them process requests manually.

Thank you for the info. I am going to seek out a freelancer to create a websited. I'm just looking for a way to process visa/amex/mastercard/etc prepaid cards for bitcoin. I'll check out the services you mentioned.

You can actually save yourself some trouble as a note of warning, you just need to stop using PayPal so you don't get carried away that since you have not had any issue then all is well, when the trouble will come, you won't be notified and don't forget that even after transferring there is a call back period that can still reverse such payment received. You can try the option of getting a Payoneer prepaid card which is supported by MasterCard you can then change your bitcoin on Paxful and other peer sites for Payoneer which would be paid directly there.
213  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After ICO What do you do with your coin - HODL or Sell? on: May 18, 2018, 11:01:34 AM
In the few that I have participated in. You are forced to hold because it takes time after the end of the ICO before being listed on the exchange sites while some are not even listed and you forget about it until when you are only checking your wallet then realise that there are some left overs. Another reason why I hold is because in the project I invest, I believe they will turn out well and holding is a way to support beyond raising fund because dumping by everyone will force the price down while developers are looking for ways to increase the price rather than focusing on achieving the objective of why they set out in the first place.

214  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Hold your keys vs money on exchanges on: May 18, 2018, 06:26:53 AM
The veteran people on crypto tend to say that you should keep your coins in your wallet, never on exchages. However if there is a strong downwards movement on a coin and you want to sell to buy latter at a cheaper price it may take quite a bit of time and fees to move it. What is the right strategy?

There is no doubt that time is of essence when there is need to make some decisions concerning the holding of stocks just like bitcoin increase in price from $8000+ to $8100 within the hour but that does not justify keeping all your funds in exchange sites. What is being suggested is that keep only the amount you will need on exchange sites in case if anything should happen, you have something to fall back on. And today there is less traffic on the network meaning the time lost can still be minimal in transferring from the wallet to exchange sites.
215  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Can BTC reach 12$K? And how about the altcoins? on: May 18, 2018, 06:23:11 AM
Do you think BTC can reach $12K at the end of this month? If not, do you think when will it happen?
How about the Altcoins this month? Is it the time to invest? I really care about it. Thank you for your opinion.

The reason why $12k was reached and dusted late last year was a testimony that it can happen again but the timing is what remains unknown to everybody and why its better to live the moment as it comes without necessarily putting hopes high then get disappointed in the process. For altcoins, some are surely designed to fail and no matter the push or the increase in activities, its only temporal. While for others, the price at which they are currently trading even though its low, no one could believe they could touch half of it about 2 years ago. Those ones will continue to have their solid potentials now and in the future.
216  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: why facebook and twitter are too low on: May 17, 2018, 09:02:20 PM
i just wonder why facebook and twitter are too low in terms of pool allocation, what i m seeing now is not longer encouraging about doing facebook and twitter anymore again. facebook and twitter are more stressful compared to other pools but it seems they have less reward.
watch out the stress in retwitting and tweetting also post and repost on facebook everyday and everytime writting report come to think the stress.. also emerging how your facebook profile will be filled with picture and text of any campaign which you are advertising. please i m using this moment to plead to bounty managers to add up facebook and twitter (increase the allocation), so wen participating we won't get tired of doing the work (advertising on social media).
also due to the stress some ends up on the way without the program being end while some manage to follow the program to the ends.

please if you agree with me, support me with your send-able merit.
i will appreciate with your merit.
Disagree with your words on here yet those allocations would really be just fine. When it comes to stress level and difficulty of such task i would rather see that signature campaigns and translations would really be much harder thats why its normal for those companies to took consideration to have those programs to have a bigger allocation than on twitter and facebook.

I don't expect a campaign manager or bounty manager to allocate huge portion to either Twitter or Facebook which way much more easier than signature campaign. On those platform, I don't see anything hard in retweeting or sharing or link. If you want to out your own content, all you need to do is see what has been tweeted and put in your words. You don't have to bother about someone checking for post quality, there is no wait time before you tweet, you don't have to make high minimum number of tweets to be eligible for payments and all those conditions embedded in SIG campaigns.
217  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Fluctuates Below $8,500 on: May 17, 2018, 06:42:29 PM
Cryptocurrency drops further, making fresh lows, with no signs of the positive upside move.

Read Bokka Crypto Technical Analysis BTC/USD 17.05.18: https://bokka.com/bitcoin-fluctuates-below-8500/

Now bitcoin recently sign up with 8000$ .This is constant between 8000-8300$,but this is not a permanent one. It's better to hold your valuable bitcoin, when the price reach new peak. You will get additional dollars for that.No need to feel sad for this, this is just as usual fluctuations after a rise.

That is the message that needs to be sent out everytime while we hope that those who will listen would and rejoice in the end and those who wouldn't, would find someone to blame for their decision when the tides turned for the better. There is no point creating threads to emphasise what is obvious. If you cannot handle it, sell of course its an open market where there is always a buyer ready at the current market price. But if you believe, its time to remain strong and hope which is the source of everything.
218  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What does Trading bot helps? on: May 17, 2018, 07:54:07 AM
Ahahaha!
This is all nonsense.
I scalp myself in the Forex market.
I wrote a robot on my trading strategy, but it's impossible to make it perfect.
And one day, you can see in your account zero dollars)

Robots, it's just a mathematical program and it's not possible to write everything down!

My robot works, brings income.
But you have to follow him, so it's better to trade with your hands.

Your idea is just the best way to go about it. Some people would think the use of bots would just replace them completely as they need to sleep and wake up and see their 1btc turn into 1.3btc but not knowing that its based on what is being coded that it responds to and it also dependent on how versatile one is able to tweak the default mode of the bot to get maximum results. In a situation of price dropping, the best is to avoid bots because you will just realize that you can actually do better than what its giving you.
219  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-05-09] BTC Wallet Electrum Exposes Malicious Copycat on: May 17, 2018, 05:58:57 AM
Wow, there is need to get this kind of message to everyone but unfortunately, some people who will fall scam of this because a lot who are not conversant with the latest news might read about upgrade and just decide to go through Google and the moment they type Electrum the suggestions comes up which would further lead loss of funds. I wonder what people stand to gain by going extra effort just to steal people resources when such effort can be channelled towards making of a working product that would add value to the community.
220  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Cryptocurrency market to suffer from strong correction on: May 17, 2018, 05:57:39 AM
Strong correction I believe is an overrated term. Yes there would be correction which would likely drop the price beyond what we are having currently but a strong one would mean a crash in price which is way out of line at this time. Analysts would say things for them to cotinue to be in the news. Only if there is a way to punish people if there predictions fail to hempen after a specific period of time, it would have reduce all of this not so thoughtful predictions.
