2121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Conversation I had with my girlfriend the other night on: April 30, 2011, 06:21:19 PM
My GF says its "cuckoo crazy" and whenever I tell her its reaching a new record high she says all the more emphatically, "you need to sell!".  I tell her she said the same thing last time.  Then when there's an eery silence over a very shallow market, and I worry it has topped and is about to tumble down, I tell her I'm selling and I sell some.  Then it goes up another 50 cents.  So I tell her it just went up another 50 cents and she said "why didn't you sell 50 cents higher?!"  I buy back in 50 cents higher.

I'm going to stop taking her advice.

I will tell my GF that I already got the money back that I invested, so whatever happens, no harm done. I am definitely not selling the rest of my Bitcoins though, whatever she says.  I will wait until the bitter end/ glorious future of Bitcoin.

Instead of just you know, holding onto the btc hoping for it to appreaciate, why not invest in ina company or business priced and operated in btc, like on the stock exchange that's opening....around monday.

2122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [poll] Namecoin official tld : .bit, .web, .p2p on: April 30, 2011, 06:16:31 PM
khal, there are no big technical difficulties with that. If you are the man behind namecoin, talk to me in private I'll do what I can to help.

nefario, give the enemy a retreat route to weaken his resolve to fight to death. let ICANN play in 2 symbol reservation plus whatever is taken .com .org .net etc..., take everything else.

OK, but as soon as they're too weak to fight back we go for the kill.
2123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [poll] Namecoin official tld : .bit, .web, .p2p on: April 30, 2011, 06:05:44 PM
Do we even need to respect names taken on icanns names list?

They're not the boss of us, our system is separate, we can probably do .com, .net, .org and everything. Ours is a competing domain name system, that's superior.

I say everything is up for grabs, this is our internet, and we're taking it all back. Fuck what anyone else says.
2124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the recent fast increase of bitcoin value a bubble waiting to burst? on: April 30, 2011, 05:33:21 PM
Those who are not selling don't think that it's a bubble, even if they say it is.

Well I wouldn't really be selling at any price, right now everything I buy online is priced for me in bitcoin, if it's not then I dont buy.

If I didn't have to pay for food and stuff with local currency then I wouldnt.
2125  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex IPO! on: April 30, 2011, 05:27:26 PM
Well, I wanted to join in, but when I try to register with GLBSE by using 'blackmarket.py register' in the Python cmd prompt I'm told that there's a server error - "couldn't connect to hose.".  Bummer.

To hose?

Hehe   Embarrassed

Servers down until monday
2126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is the recent fast increase of bitcoin value a bubble waiting to burst? on: April 30, 2011, 05:20:54 PM
It's likely a bubble, however the alternate choice is that bitcoin has just been grossly undervalued for the last month or two.
2127  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: options trading on: April 30, 2011, 05:17:58 PM
The bitcoin stock market is launching in beta on Monday, this should be something that's totally possible to do on it.

2128  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: transaction fees and negative balances on: April 30, 2011, 03:14:42 PM

negative balance results from moving one address from the default account "" to another.

I don't think so. I had an account with 0.00000002btc in it, it then sent the same amount to another bitcoin address, now the account is negative 0.01btc. It seems that a transaction charge can also put an account into negative balance.

Thanks for the reply on the other parts.
2129  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: decentralized Bitcoin are highly centralized to mtgox!11 on: April 30, 2011, 03:12:33 PM
Yes it's a weakpoint of bitcoin, as are all the exchanges.

Until someone implements the anonymous exchange idea found here http://bitcoinweekly.com/articles/anonymous-money-needs-an-anonymous-exchange it will remain so.

Also the arrival of OTC exchanges.

2130  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex IPO! on: April 30, 2011, 03:09:29 PM
Well chris, just to let you know the exchange is down until Monday night to fix some issues that have been uncovered.
2131  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex: In-person Bitcoin exchange [STOCK AVAILABLE] on: April 30, 2011, 01:26:59 PM

2132  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Stock Exchange testing, round 3 on: April 30, 2011, 01:25:19 PM
yrral86 ,Just trying to go over you're error, and I thought it was a strange one, have not seen that before.

It seems you have managed to find/accidentally discover a somewhat obscure bug, congradulatons.

So you have 2 accounts on the system(am I right?).
The bitcoin address you tried to withdraw to is actually a deposit address you we're given for another account.

You had deposited 0.00000002 to your first account with the address 1MqoX4QphLAhvAEbGs9omJF1sBZbAC9Pwq, and then tried to withdraw 0.00000002 from your second account to the same address 1MqoX4QphLAhvAEbGs9omJF1sBZbAC9Pwq.

The withdraw was successfull, however there was a transaction charge which was removed from the general wallet (and not recorded in the database).

Also the address 1MqoX4QphLAhvAEbGs9omJF1sBZbAC9Pwq is only meant to be used once (for the initial deposit), any further payments to that address will not be entered into the db (although they will be put into your wallet account) which will result the balance of your wallet account and your db account being different, which is bad.

So my solution to this issue will be to prevent withdrawing to a deposit address, and setting minimum withdrawal amounts,  I also need to account for transaction fees (from the miners) for withdrawals.

I currently have 2 sets of books for bitcoin, and they do not balance as a result of the above. This is really something that I need to fix before brining the system online again (otherwise the mess to clear up will be much greater).

These are purely issues caused by interaction with the bitcoin daemon (that to be honest I hadn't known about). They are pretty serious but totally fixable.

For everyone who has deposited btc, issued or bought shares don't worry, everything will be just as it should when the system comes back online. But it will be a day or two before this happens(for me to fix the system, and then ensure everyone has their correct balance and shares).

2133  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / transaction fees and negative balances on: April 30, 2011, 01:21:58 PM
Firstly a question about transaction fees.

The fee is taken out of the sending wallet and not from the bitcoin being sent right?
So if I have a wallet of 10btc, and send 5 btc then the balance should be 4.99btc right?

Second a question about negative balances.
If I have a number of accounts in a wallet, and one of them results in a negative balance (say, caused by the previously mentioned transaction fee, actually happened) how are other account's effected?

Lets also assume for this case that the default account "" has a balance of 0, how does bitcoind decide who's account to take that btc from?
2134  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex: In-person Bitcoin exchange [STOCK AVAILABLE] on: April 30, 2011, 11:02:46 AM
The ticker symbol has *CHANGED* from "ubitex" to "UBX".

Both ubitex and UBX are listed at GLBSE.  What happens to those who chose the ‘ubitex’ asset?

Cheers,

I will create a function called "swapasset" where you will be able to swap one kind of asset for another. But it will require the user to actually do that(or permit it) themselves.

With regards soon I'm working on it, had to run out and have just gotten back, better for the server to be down than to have problems show up.
2135  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex: In-person Bitcoin exchange [STOCK AVAILABLE] on: April 30, 2011, 07:11:30 AM
I cant seem to register. Keep getting Server Error: Couldn't Connect to host. Hope you can get this fixed.

Yes the server is down, will let you know when it's back up. Should be soon.
2136  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex: In-person Bitcoin exchange [STOCK AVAILABLE] on: April 30, 2011, 06:48:10 AM
I want to buy some but I'm doing a pretty terrible job figuring out how the exchange works. I guess I'll stare at it some more tomorrow and hope my computer skills magically improve.

Are you on windows ?

Yes. Is that prohibitive to using it?

No, should work fine, I'm on windows and works fine for me.
2137  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Ubitex: In-person Bitcoin exchange [STOCK AVAILABLE] on: April 30, 2011, 06:40:22 AM
When trying to deposit it says unable to connect to host so I'm guessing problems with the server?
Yes, looks like GLBSE problems.

Server is down for the next hour or so, I'll keep you udated, I need to investigate an issue.
2138  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Stock Exchange testing, round 3 on: April 30, 2011, 06:28:11 AM
Server is going offline for about the next hour to investigate.

I will update this thread when it's back online.

Please bear in mind prices are not bitcoin fractional's that is it's not 1 for 1bitcoin but 100000000, all prices currently use 64bit integers, so the number 1, is actually 0.00000001 of a bitcoin(I think, it's thereabouts anyway).

We will continue working on the client to improve it's usability.

Please also keep in mind that this system is still under active development. That no orders sent to the server are encrypted (although they are signed), and that the systems security (both the programming of the system, and the actual machine setup) needs considerable work and testing(moreso testing really).

Long story short, use this system now at your own risk(for playing around it's not a problem but actually listing companies for more than small amounts of bitcoin is a little risky).

Please note that if there are any issue's I will do everything in my power to resolve them and attempt to keep this running as smoothly as possible.

Regards, nefario.
