1241  Economy / Lending / Re: Requesting 1200 btc loan for mining hardware (w/ collateral) on: February 25, 2012, 03:18:36 PM
Regarding issues with GLBSE, thats being addressed with the upcoming release.

In terms of liquidity, around the 1500BTC mark seems to be the average for IPO's, BTCSYN has brought in about 1200BTC in 2 days.

I get what you're saying on the work involved.

I just think it's easier to get little bits of funding from a lot of people as opposed to lots of funding from a few people, at least thats been my experience with GLBSE.

Good luck.

Some interesting correlations between BTC and bitorrent. I think it's actually a great idea, I need to look up some of the tech that he mentions.

1243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why is account showing as empty even after doing a setaccount? on: February 25, 2012, 12:50:06 PM
Yeah I tried to use the bitcoind accounting system with the first version of GLBSE and it was a nightmare. Now I keep the system separate, In my system I record bitcoin deposits over 6 confirmations, and withdrawals immediately. After that I don't touch bitcoind.

Wondering why someone would lend you the funds as opposed to use them to start mining themselves. This would remove the risk of getting scammed while keeping the upside.

Also, why just get a loan? Why not sell shares on glbse.com like all the other mining companies there. From a quick look, something like 10% of all bitcoins hashing power is a result of GLBSE mining companies.
1245  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Peer to Peer "Unit" Ownership using Bitcoin - (GLBSE Decentralization) on: February 24, 2012, 06:44:47 PM
Hey Dunster,

you're right, GLBSE is a central point of failure but that's not whats holding it back. Actually GLBSE is tiny in comparison to nearly all the bitcoin exchanges out there.

Yes it's the only bitcoin stock market right now but that market is very small (although I'm guessing something like 10% of the hasing power on the bitcoin network is a result of GLBSE companies).

When the market grows there will be competitors, the problem often is not tech, it's trust. We've been around since shortly after bitcoin started, GLBSE itself is nearly 1year old.

We've had 0 hacks, and never run off with anyones money.

But yes, the future is with namecoin.
1246  Economy / Services / Re: Shades Minoco / Shakaru / Collections / Debt on: February 24, 2012, 06:32:59 PM
Regarding the shares on GLBSE I would recommend you calculate what is owed entirely, then make a single dividend payment to shareholders (which should exclude shakaru). Then I will remove the share and the contract for it is kaput.

I think the route that shakaru is taking is an honorable one, and will not affect his standing in the community. Actually I believe that it will only solidify his reputation as someone trustworthy, even when things go bad.

Please correct me if I have made any mistakes.

I'll have to dig though logs, it could take a while.

1251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What kind of Bitcoin startup will be the first to raise a Series A from a VC? on: February 23, 2012, 04:24:39 PM
Who needs funding from VC's, when we've already got a bitcoin stock exchange (GLBSE.com)?

Sure right now it's on the small side of funding, but GLBSE is already responsible for dozens of new ventures.

Check this article.

I'm sure it's great, but I lost my Bitcoin account on GLBSE because there is not adequate instruction about backing up the private keys. I am not sure if folks are educated enough about key management to use it. I would like to see more instruction on the website on this and a warning about the risk of not backing up all your account information.

Were moving away from key based auth in the next release. And if you have anything in your account, give me whatever information you can (addresses for bitcoin deposits, shares held etc.) and I'll transfer them to a new account for you.

On checking his account there was 819000569 satoishi's in there which works out to a little over 8.19BTC I think.

So some of the held assets have cashed in. Not the windfall we were hoping for.

AFAIK Intersango don't accept Paxum anymore.
1258  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is buying bitcoin really this complicated? on: February 22, 2012, 03:38:06 AM
It depends where you are, if based in the US then the cheapest/easiest option is CryptoXchange/ Intersango. It's just an internal wire transfer which AFAIK is fairly fast and cheap.

If you're based in a Euro area then MtGox and Intersango Euro are the best, both have SEPA, Intersango has customer service, gox doesn't.

If in the UK then Intersango is the best option.

For smaller amounts, MtGox(USD) is a terrible choice as the transfer fee will eat up most of what you send out. Because MtGox(USD) is based in Japan you have to pay the full international wire fee. Try to avoid that.

It turns out there was no transaction error. Everything is fine and I approve the launch of this IPO.

I have verified Glasswalker's real life identity, passport, and online profile for facebook, google+ as well as his home address and place of work, and his whois details.

I called him to verify his phone number.

Glasswalker is indeed a real person, and is relatively well known in his field.

I am keeping a record of this information.
