2121  Other / Politics & Society / Re: A UK resident? If so, prepare your anus. on: May 30, 2015, 03:24:20 PM
I'm afraid the OP's quite naive. 3 years ago, I was in Italy, and some websites I tried to access were blocked. Today, I'm in France, in a public place with free wi-fi, and I've been unable to launch Tor. I've tried with different settings, but it fails each time.

It's the sad truth, we're getting f*cked everywhere.

It's worse in Iran, Israel, or Egypt, but that doesn't help.

I'm not really sure why you think I'm naive?

1) I never said other countries weren't having problems.
2) You said you was blocked, but this is rather vague. At what level was you blocked? Local machine, local network, ISP, government level?
I mean it quite understandable if a internet cafe chooses to block it's customers from watching porn for example.

I haven't understood how I've been blocked. I was able to surf normally, but I was unable to launch Tor. I tried every possible settings, but none worked. It was the first I'd seen that. I also remember being unable to access several websites in Italy, when I was in a private apartment, using a standard connection. I thought the websites I tried to access were down, until I checked with a friend in another country, who told me everything was fine. I believe those websites were blocked by the Italian ISP.

Anyway, it just shows that wherever you are, you're probably watched when you're on the Internet. I don't think the new law in the UK will change anything. What is now allowed was being done illegally before.

2123  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Transferring money from Argentina to the US on: May 29, 2015, 02:11:06 PM
Does your friend has cash? I know there are currency controls in Argentina, but he may buy a flight ticket and travel with the money in his pocket for way less than 35% of $15,000.
2124  Other / Off-topic / Re: Offline navigation , Is it possible ? on: May 29, 2015, 02:06:15 PM
I'm using GPS navigation everyday without a smartphone. You don't need to be connected. Get a tablet and download navigation software. Alternatively, you can still buy a pocket GPS, but it isn't cheaper.
2125  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bin Laden's porn stash will not be released on: May 29, 2015, 01:55:00 PM
Quote from: Metro
He may have once been the world's most wanted man, but that didn't stop Osama bin Laden from enjoying a bit of porn...

Link: http://metro.co.uk/2015/05/21/osama-bin-laden-had-massive-porn-stash-in-pakistan-lair-5209160/

Isn't it possible that he kept a porn stash for reasons other than personal enjoyment though? Most sites that have covered this aspect of bin Laden's life don't go into any further detail about why someone like him would have a porn stash in the first place. He considered himself to be an enemy of the Western world, its policies, and its values. Pornography is both a product of Western culture (whether we like it or not) as well as an example of un-Islamic values. For someone like bin Laden who wanted to establish Sharia law across the entire Arab world (which prescribes female modesty, enforces separation of the sexes, and considers fornication and adultery as crimes against Allah), it would be really out of character.

For instance, it would be understandable for someone who despises Judaism and Jews to own copies of the Torah and Jewish scriptures in order to understand what exactly it is that they oppose. A Creationist might own a copy of The Origin of Species for the same reasons. From reading the article below, I'm fairly certain that Richard Dawkins has a few bibles and other religious books laying around his house as well:

Quote from: BBC
Prof Dawkins, writing in the Observer, said: "It is not a moral book and young people need to learn that important fact because they are very frequently told the opposite".

He said pupils should learn about its role in the nation's history, language, literacy and culture.

Prof Dawkins, an evolutionary biologist at Oxford, said: "A native speaker of English who has never read a word of the King James Bible is verging on the barbarian."

He added: "I have even heard the cynically misanthropic opinion that, without the Bible as a moral compass, people would have no restraint against murder, theft and mayhem.

"The surest way to disabuse yourself of this pernicious falsehood is to read the Bible itself."

Hmmm... I don't think you need to have a lot of videos to understand what pornography is all about. May be some people understand more slowly than others...
2126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many friends did you recommend bitcoin to? Did they accept it? on: May 26, 2015, 07:57:06 PM
This is no business. Yes, I've talked about BTC to a few friends and some family, but I'm afraid I can't answer your question. I don't count the number the people I'm talking to, nor do I know how convincing I was, as I don't keep track of who bought some BTC after meeting me and who didn't.
Sorry.
2127  Economy / Economics / Re: The Next Step for Digital Currencies on: May 26, 2015, 07:44:40 PM

“The question is how make the issuance of and access to money egalitarian on the one hand.”

What about work? What about merit? What about talent? Sorry, but issuance and access to money shall never be egalitarian. No way!
2128  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Putin Signs Russian Law To Shut Down ‘Undesirable Organizations’ on: May 26, 2015, 07:38:25 PM
So Putin's got a new gun to fight the West. He already has many of them, so I'm not sure this is going to bring any change. Anyway, there are way more Russians leaving their country to live a better life in the West, than there will be foreigners expelled of Russia because of that new law.
2129  Other / Politics & Society / Re: nuke went off in Yemen on: May 26, 2015, 07:29:48 PM
Hey, we need more proof than this low-res video to get scared or raise alarm. There are still a few journalists in Yemen, how come nobody reported anything about an atomic explosion, if this was real?
2130  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 2 DEA agents busted for running strip club on: May 26, 2015, 07:21:39 PM
The only thing wrong was that they hired illegal immigrants as dancers. Besides that, I see nothing wrong with getting another source of income. When I was employed, I hadn't told my main employer that I had another job. Hey, I just wanted more money.
2131  Other / Politics & Society / Re: "Podemos" Spain. What do you think about ? on: May 26, 2015, 09:22:54 AM
Most Spaniards have little economic knowledge and they haven't understood what happened to their country in 2008. Jobs were plentiful, money was flowing and suddenly everything crashed. So millions voted for the candidates who proposed the easiest way to go back to how things were: with more money creation. I guess they will launch a new cryptocurrency sometimes. The SpanishCryptoSuperPeseta, and they will give one million of them to each Spaniard.
2132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: It is time to raise the blockchain size. on: May 26, 2015, 09:04:43 AM
One small correction. This isn't about increasing the size of the blockchain, which is already quite big, but the block size. There are many other topics regarding this issue already, this problem is well known.
2133  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DICE traceable cash on: May 26, 2015, 09:02:31 AM
Traceable cash! I really think this world is getting worse and worse. I'm proud to say that I'm not on facebook and that I don't have a smartphone. I like my privacy. I don't want to be tracked, maybe I belong to some dying species.
2134  Economy / Economics / Re: What happened ? on: May 25, 2015, 08:14:11 PM
I haven't noticed any change in the past month. Trying to think about it, did I check the price of BTC in the last 30 days? I think I haven't. I don't worry much about BTC going up or down a little, I'm in for the long run.
2135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there an actual Bitcoin bank yet? on: May 25, 2015, 08:06:23 PM
If there's a BTC bank which could help you finance a new house, that's certainly good. But besides that, banks are totally useless to BTC users, individuals and businesses alike.
2136  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why is Yanis Varoufakis so praised? he is just a socialist puppet on: May 25, 2015, 07:57:16 PM
He's just a loser from a country with a majority of losers so he got elected and now he's famous. In ancient times, the rich countries who've lent so much to Greece would just go there, and rightly seize everything they see as valuable, because they've paid for it. I don't thing he will stay famous long, when the people will discover that his policies aren't making the country any better.
2137  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Oregon to test pay-per-mile idea as replacement for gas tax on: May 25, 2015, 07:44:39 PM
This is fascism at its best. I wasn't expecting that from Oregon. A black box in every car to tell the government what every driver is doing with his car. Europe's smarter. In Switzerland, there's a highway tax. It's just a small sticker you put on your windshield. You've got to buy the new one every year to be allowed to drive on the highways, and you'll get a fine if you get on a highway without it, but nobody records anything. That's not needed.

Nobody's concerned about privacy in Oregon? I'm really surprised.
2138  Other / Politics & Society / Re: China Plans First Ever Landing on the Dark Side of the Moon on: May 25, 2015, 07:38:56 PM
Question is how much they are willing to spend, or to lose more precisely. I guess it's a question of honor, nobody has ever done it, so if the Chinese are the first to do it, they'll be very proud. It's politics...
2139  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bin Laden's porn stash will not be released on: May 25, 2015, 07:34:02 PM
Well, nobody shall miss that. There are tons of porn available online already. I don't even need to know if he was watching it alone or with one of his wives.
2140  Other / Politics & Society / Re: ISIS leader, Baghdadi, says "Islam was never a religion of peace. on: May 17, 2015, 04:31:15 PM
The sad part being that as long as there will be losers in the world, there will be people to follow him. Some years ago, those people would have joined the communist party, now they join that islamic state (they don't deserve caps).
