1601  Other / Politics & Society / Re: America, It's Over! Yale Students Sign Petition To Repeal First Amendment on: December 19, 2015, 12:41:01 AM
If you check the video, there's something wrong as the faces of the people against the 1st amendment are blurred. I would have liked to see clear pictures of those people with a mention in big block letters: I'm against freedom of speech, freedom of press and freedom of religion. I thought Yale students were smarter. I'm afraid America is doomed.
1602  Other / Politics & Society / Re: U.N. Council to Adopt Sanctions Against ISIS on: December 19, 2015, 12:31:29 AM
Are they going to build a wall with armed guards all around Syria to prevent goods or people getting out? If they don't do that, I'm afraid this will be only words. Nothing will change in the real world as the IS guys have learned how to smuggle things, especially to Turkey.
1603  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if BTC was Banned? on: December 19, 2015, 12:26:13 AM
I can't think of a single example where all the governments of the world have agreed to the same idea. Drugs? Certainly not. Sex? In some places having sex with a 10 year old girl is a crime, in some others you can marry her. Owning a gun? It's forbidden in several European countries, but it's a constitutional right in the US.

BTC may be illegal in a few countries, but frankly nobody cares much as to make the ban truly effective would mean to cut off the Internet.
1604  Economy / Economics / Re: Bank excess reserves are so massive- why aren't they lending to everyone? on: December 19, 2015, 12:19:11 AM
Excess reserves?

Banks do not have enough reserves! Haven't you heard about fractional reserve? When banks give a loan, they are creating money out of hot air. The reserves they're keeping are barely a few percents of the money they're lending. That's why so many people like BTC, because it was designed without the possibility of fractional reserve, or wild money creation.
1605  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Help me pick a country to lobby on: December 19, 2015, 12:10:17 AM
I'd like to take a diplomatic mission in 2016 with the goal of helping BTC adoption in a place that is struggling.

I don't understand what's your plan. You sure may go to an African country, but government officials will not want to meet you. You're a foreigner, and unless you want to invest a vast sum in the country, all government's doors will be closed. You may have good intentions, but Africans have already suffered a lot from white guys telling them how they should manage their country. In several places, you will not be welcomed.
1606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the global currency of Earth on: December 18, 2015, 02:19:30 AM
BTC isn't related to Earth or the Universe. BTC is the global currency of men. If mankind were to disappear, which is definitely a possibility, BTC would disappear as well.

Besides, the US dollar, the Euro, the Chinese or Indian currency all have more than half a billion users. BTC's way behind.
1607  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Where does the left-wing love for Islam came from? on: December 18, 2015, 12:06:26 AM
Some people with a limited knowledge (and understanding) of history see muslims as victims of colonialism, American imperialism or more globally, the almighty white man who wants to rule the world. I guess they should learn more, but they don't want to.
1608  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Big banks creating Bitcoin alternative on: December 17, 2015, 11:57:09 PM
Wrong title!

What the big banks are creating is not a BTC alternative, nor is it against BTC at all. BTC is a cryptocurrency with an open public ledger. The big banks are creating a large distributed record book, but it won't be public (it's only for big banks), and it won't be associated with a cryptocurrency.

I like it. The big banks are doing their thing, and they don't mess around with BTC.
1609  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is the global currency of Earth on: December 17, 2015, 11:53:10 PM

1610  Other / Off-topic / Re: Which smartphone do you use and why? on: December 16, 2015, 11:40:12 PM
I don't have a smartphone, and I won't ever get one. Sorry, but I don't to be traced by the CIA and big tech firms. Then I don't need one. I once read a magazine about the 500 must-have apps and there wasn't a single one I found useful. I own a small tablet, though, wi-fi only, and I'm using it anonymously. I've never used it to check my mail.
1611  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Best places to advertise a Bitcoin related product or service... on: December 16, 2015, 11:31:29 PM
Obviously in BTCrelated media. You can advertise on this board, just like on coindesk.com or cointelegraph.com. Forget faucets, they're for losers. Better try to advertise on the biggest media names for credibility. More than that, BTC is known to anyone working in finance, so you can advertise on all financial media.
1612  Economy / Economics / Re: Open a bank account without many papers that will respect my privacy on: December 16, 2015, 11:24:18 PM
You can open a bank account in Switzerland or in London, without much hassle, you'll just need to show your passport, and give them an address where they will send you your card and access codes to your account. Most likely, they will ask you to keep a minimum balance of at least 10,000 €.

Forget everything you read about opening a bank account as a non-resident without physically visiting the bank. There are lawyers who can open a bank account for you in Singapore without you leaving Europe, but they charge 1,500 € for the service, so it's cheaper to travel there.

In the good old days, in Switzerland or Austria, it was possible to open a bank account without even showing your passport, but those days are long gone...
1613  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to motivate women to use Bitcoin? on: December 16, 2015, 01:25:26 AM
To help motivate women, I wish a moderator could close and DELETE this discussion. It's frightening to read what some people here think of women. I'd be a woman reading this topic, this would make me run away next time I hear a guy talking about BTC, as he probably looks down on women.
1614  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So...bitcoin is now a national currency on: December 16, 2015, 01:15:37 AM
I guess the most possible large country that will recognize bitcoin is Switzerland, their traditional secret banking service has been heavily affected by the US after 911, bitcoin could give them another opportunity

Ths Swiss love their Swiss Franc and they will keep it forever. They're very tolerant towards the use of other currencies though, and most shops in Geneva accept Euros. Some of them are also BTC-friendly. I remember there was a BTC ATM in Geneva a while ago, it's gone now, but the Swiww have always been at the forefront of financial innovation.

And I have explained in this post  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1283729.msg13211430#msg13211430  it does not really matter if there is a country behind bitcoin, because anyway people will not use their precious bitcoin to exchange useless goods and services, they already have fiat money for that purpose. Bitcoin's main advantage is to store value and do international remittance, both resides in finance area. It has almost nothing to do with legacy economy, and is not affected by any legacy economy either

I'm not talking about value, I'm talking about image. I think BTC should stay totally international, without any link to any territory anywhere, but cyberspace.

1615  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So...bitcoin is now a national currency on: December 14, 2015, 05:44:55 PM
Horrible news!

I wish BTC to remain independent from all countries. It's a cryptocurrency not linked to any territory. Happily, the news are wrong since the country mentioned above doesn't exist in any history book. It only exists in the mind of 4 people from the same family, and the UN have never heard of them.
1616  Economy / Economics / Re: Asia could lose their passports for unpaid taxes on: December 14, 2015, 05:34:20 PM
Not Asia, Americans living in Asia!

Poor article, it's trying to scare people but the reality is far from what it described. It's a long process, and nobody will see his/her passport seized without prior notice. The new regulation the article is talking about isn't even law, yet.

Come to think of it, does anyone knows there's something worse in Russia? Russians can't even travel abroad if they have a debt.
1617  Economy / Economics / Re: CNN: Money is flying out of China on: December 14, 2015, 05:29:22 PM
This is normal. When you begin to have quite a lot of money, you start to think about how to diversify to protect your wealth. It's only logical, the same thing goes in any country, but it's quite new in China, since recently, it was very difficult to move any money out of China. It has become easier but obviously, the government doesn't like it, and it wants to make it difficult again.
1618  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Gambia declared Islamic republic on: December 13, 2015, 01:37:38 AM
I'm not surprised. Mauritania too is officially an islamic republic, and there's also a muslim majority in Senegal. Some people, stupid people, see that religion as some sort of empowerment because it doesn't come from white men, say former colonial countries.

Sex tourism is, and has always been, mostly for men. I don't think it's gonna change.
1619  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Saudi Billionaire Prince Demands Donald Trump Exit 2016 Race on: December 13, 2015, 01:25:35 AM
This is the best advertisement Donald Trump could ever get! Really. A country which is one the least democratic in the world should not be allowed to comment on democracy in other countries. In Saudi Arabia, a muslim saying he renounces his religion is sentenced to death, and they want to give lessons?
1620  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Italy says international tax dodger amnesty is bringing in billions on: December 13, 2015, 01:18:25 AM
No, because tax evasion in Italy (like nearly everywhere) is getting more and more difficult. Credit card use is on the rise, event at small restaurants, so there's much less income which can be hidden, and the Italian government has also forbidden the use of cash for transactions over a certain amount. Could be 1,000 € but I'm not sure.

Only legal businesses will be complying with this € 1,000 limit on cash transactions. Can the Italian government enforce this measure on the members if he Cosa Nostra and the Sacra Corona Unita? I don't think so. They will continue to earn their drug money in hard cash and then they will send that money to Geneva. During the next tax amnesty, this cash will flow back to Sicily and Puglia.

Oh, yes, drug money, but that's only the very top of the iceberg. I guess most undeclared income will now come from drug money and prostitution, but only a few years ago, that was the opposite. Most undeclared income was coming from legal businesses.
