2141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why the darkcoin/dash instamine matters on: April 21, 2016, 10:13:14 PM
Yeah okay, thanks. That's kinda what I thought.

I've always been a little bit on the fence about it. On the one hand it seems to get some praise from certain media outlets, but on the other hand it seems to get a lot of community disapproval.

Community disapproval can be very misleading on bitcointalk, especially where alts are concerned. This thread want exactly created to give a fair and unbiased perspective of Dash but I'd agree 100% with Smooth on this point:
Quote
Nevertheless, do your own homework. Reach your own conclusions. This is crypto. "Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear" (Poe)

DYODD.  Tone Vays did, and concluded the "accidental" (lol, ya right) instamine puts Dash firmly in the Scamcoin category.

What is misinformed in this assessment

Conflations of concepts like interest with taxation, coin holders with promisary notes, trusted parties with good governance, centralisation with protocol articulation, fungibility with obfuscation and monetary media media with transport protocols.

Also, am I any more repetitive than Tao's copypaste "Satoshi's dream, decentralized

Yes.

Tired of correcting your semantic juggling in an attempt to hide the fact that dash's power structure is centralized--however you want parse it doesn't really matter as you can't trustlessly prove it and therefore it is BS by cryptosystem standards.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1443867.0

Even more than Darkcoin, Dash takes advantage of low-information, short attention span people who just want to get some of that Bitcoin money.

They have no idea what a trusted 3rd party has to do with bad crypto, and don't want to know.  Don't try to explain layers and scaling to them.  "Orthogonal" has never been a word in their vocabulary, much less conceptual/working knowledge.  They may not have even heard or seen it before.

Satoshi is aloof and mysterious, while Duffield has a friendly gingery smile that appeals to old ladies watching Murder, She Wrote.

He's the Saul Goodman of crypto; a classic snake-oil HYIP peddling confidence man.

Now that the price of Bitcoin is once again rising, we'll see the gullible/greedy Dash types return to the original and best crypto currency.

I am adopting BU (Bitcoin Unlimited). because it is dev.ing in the direction i like, ex. its thinblocks impl.   Embarrassed

I hope more and more poeple look into BU and start running BU nodes, i dont know buy the argument that these devs are amateurs. and i dont like cores monopoly over development. i believe in competing impl working hard to have their feathers adopted by miners and nodes, not a handful of poeple dictating what bitcoin is, and what it ought to be.   Embarrassed

5.  Acceptance — "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it."
In this last stage, individuals embrace mortality or inevitable future, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event. People dying may precede the survivors in this state, which typically comes with a calm, retrospective view for the individual, and a stable condition of emotions.

Angry  who will open LN channels and make 1000's of payments to each other? poeple like CoinBase and Bitpay.   Angry

Angry  LN will interconnect these large entities and allow them to settle without the blockchain.   Angry

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCbler-Ross_model#Stages

2.  Anger — When the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue, they become frustrated, especially at proximate individuals. Certain psychological responses of a person undergoing this phase would be: "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?"; "Why would this happen?".
2147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ToominCoin aka "Bitcoin_Classic" #R3KT on: April 20, 2016, 01:31:14 PM
with thinblocks and other improvements you probably could run a node from home with 100MB blocks ( provided you have a unlimit BW plan, somthing in the order of 50-100$/month  )   Undecided
not that i care if individual users have to run SPV clients while full node are ran by 1000's of businesses.   Roll Eyes
what you dismiss as a scaling solution is infact the classical scaling solution.   Angry
and you fail to understand that centralization of accessibility to TX on the blockchain is infinitely worse then node centralization.   Cry

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%BCbler-Ross_model#Stages

3.  Bargaining — The third stage involves the hope that the individual can avoid a cause of grief. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. People facing less serious trauma can bargain or seek compromise.

    BUMP

    This is all wrong.

You can't build out Layer 2 and crank up the marketing until Layer 1 is solid.

Dash needs to follow Bitcoin's lead and enable scaling by adopting critical new features like segwit, Lightning, and sidechains.

As it is now, Dash has no hope of competing with Lightning type payment channels.  All the "fiat gateways" in the world won't help Dash if it has no unique, innovative, and useful technology under the hood.

Dash gets a shade more obsolete with each BIP9 block mined.

    Do you see this?

    https://coin.dance/blocks/bip9

That's doom coming for shitcoins like Dash, which tried to profit from Classic's attempted governance coup and kissed up to the Gavinistas on bitco.in.

Wow, 1% is higher than I expected.

Slush must be "matching" the actual 0.5% of Classic miners with neutral/nonvoting miners in order to exaggerate Gavinista support.   Roll Eyes

Nobody is going to mine Classic blocks once segwit activates.

Will the last Gavinista to leave A16z please turn off the Frappuccino machine?

Evolution beta planned for august 2018? Sounds like light years in crypto. Hope that will change.

August 2018?  That's an incalculable delay in Bitcoin Time.  Might as well be August 3018.

Dash needs CLTV/CSV, RBF, segwit, Confidential Transactions, sidechains, and Lightning-type payment channels long before then, or it will be obsolete when (halfway through Trump's first term) Evolution is ready.

Bitcoin is about to start scaling very fast, very soon, according to https://coin.dance/blocks/bip9#proposal.

How does Dash intend to match BTC Core's industry-leading progress while also building the "definitely not yet another smart contract platform" Evolution thingy?

    1.  Denial — The first reaction is denial. In this stage individuals believe the diagnosis is somehow mistaken, and cling to a false, preferable reality.

cryptotech attracts a certain breed of folks that achieve a certain amount ego-gratification by poking at prominent projects.

These gnats can continue to annoy in their attempt at inflated self-importance. While they continue to proclaim the "end is nigh" and hand out Jack Chick tracts, Dash will continue to improve and innovate.

Bitcoin is a "prominent project" in cryptotech.

Litecoin is a "prominent project" in cryptotech.

Ethereum is a "prominent project" in cryptotech.

Ripple is a "prominent project" in cryptotech.

Even OpenBaazar and ZeroCash are arguably "prominent projects."

Dash is not a "prominent project" in cryptotech.  Nobody cares about Dash except bagholders living in the past, clinging to broken hopes and rapidly dissipating dreams.

Perhaps Dash was "prominent" at the height of its hype cycle/price pump two years ago, but not anymore.  Darksend is obsolete compared to Monero, Confidential Tx, and especially Monero+RingCT.  InstantX is obsolete compared to Lightning and XCN.

The "end is nigh" for the instained Dash scam, just as it was for Paycoin, Neucoin, and Cryptsy.

Clinton and Goldman: Why It Matters

    http://www.nybooks.com/daily/2016/04/12/hillary-clinton-goldman-sachs-why-it-matters/

    Quote
Finally, at the time of publication of this article, I have yet to discover any comment by Hillary Clinton on the $5 billion fine against Goldman Sachs announced in January, with the details finalized this week. In the words of Stuart F. Delery, the acting associate attorney general, “This resolution holds Goldman Sachs accountable for its serious misconduct in falsely assuring investors that securities it sold were backed by sound mortgages, when it knew that they were full of mortgages that were likely to fail.”

As the primary season reaches the crucial contests in the northeast and in California that will likely decide the ultimate victor, the dual history linking Goldman and the Clintons poses two questions that still need to be answered. First, should Lloyd Blankfein remain CEO of Goldman Sachs in view of the bank’s central involvement in the deceptive marketing of securities during the crash? Second, should he, and Goldman, remain the valued associates of Hillary Clinton, with both Clintons receiving inflated speaking fees from Goldman, and with Hillary Clinton performing what amounts to a high-end public relations effort for the bank, even as she styles herself as a reformer of the financial industry? As long as Clinton refuses to reveal the content of her Goldman speeches, the suspicion will remain that she has cast a blind eye on Goldman’s dark years and that her campaign pledge to “rein in Wall Street” cannot be taken seriously.

can you provide evidence to support your claim that Dashes governance is controlled by early adopters? It shouldn't be hard, the voting history of proposals is available in the client with "mnbudget getvotes" followed by the proposal hash.

Vertoe's post is evidence Dash governance is 100% centralized.

Evan's Duffplanation for not doing a fair relaunch or airdrop is that some whales/early investors (ie Otoh) objected.

    Like I said, prove it.

    OK, here you go:

High volume of dumping on Cryptsy just now. I'll bet all my DRK that it was the mere mention of the word airdrop. Jesus, I can't believe this has even come up.

That's exactly it. That's also the reason I went into the safe and pulled my paperwallets and have them sent to the exchanges. The second this is greenlighted for a go on the airdrop, I am dumping 5 figures worth. I'm really hoping Evan comes to his senses about this.

Lol, investor confidence used to be an abstract phrase to me. But right now I can feel my own seeping out. Evan needs to comment ASAP.

Yes, please quash this airdrop idea. Will only cause pain. The big early holders have probably dumped most of their coins anyway. Keep up the good work on Darksend instead!

    +1 +1 stop Airdrop DRK

Ok, sorry, bad idea . The Airdrop is off and I'll delete the voting thread

Anything not to help the persistence of topdown systems as we move toward the information age.

    Lurk mode OFF.

Dude, you keep labouring the same tired points about masternode rewards increasing centralization.

Node holders are just as likely to sell their reward coins (as miners do) or cash out of the market completely at some point. Nodes earn ~10% pa, so assuming the count doesn't increase (which it will) each node can only foster a new node every ten years. Hardly the centralization clusterfuck you're painting.

Also, the point you so tragically fail to address is that DASH - like most every other cryptocoin, is in DEVELOPMENT. You describe the outcome of DASH with no concession to how it may develop over time.

Now stop fucking posting. We get it already. You hate DASH because if boils your blood to see 1 DASH trading at 6x the value of 1 XMR.

Get the fuck over it and do something positive in your life.

    Nice try Evan.   Cheesy

Because of the instamine, a handful of people own ~90% of all Masternodes.

When you already own hundreds of Masternodes, you are able to quickly gain more using the interest.  The compounding happens much faster than if you only had one.

That is, as you so aptly put it, a "centralization clusterfuck."

    And it's not just Dash's instamine-skewed distribution that's a problem.  Dash's development is also a "centralization clusterfuck."

But don't take my word for it.  Read vertoe's epic domination post if you think Dash governance is anything but 100% centralized.

darkcoin or however it will be called next year is not a decentralized entity.

it never was but i ignored it as long as darkcoin was following the same path i was following. the path to total financial privacy. and thats why i am so upset about how this currency is lead by a single person. darkcoin is like an old conservative company with strong hierarchical comamnd structures and a single person on the top of the pyramid. evan duffield. the rebranding using a detergent name was just a step forward in creating something like apple or paypal. fuck this i tell you. what we need is a trustless, decentralized and anonymous currency. darkcoin is not decentralized as it still relies on a single person. and this reaches deep into the code base.

the core devs were just a bunch of volunteers exploited for the big thing. the extended darkcoin team was the same with even a lower place to sit on that pyramid. and what was the darkcoin foundation again? right, something to reserve some rights on some names and collect money. who nominated and voted for the foundation board? who does even know who are these guys? how did we learn about the foundation? from local news papers! the team listings kept counting names of people nobody ever noticed before. and they never committed anything visible to the community or the repository. and i was spending 25 hours a day monitory everything that happened in the darkcoin community for more than a year. the things going on here are fishy, intransparent and rely on a single entity.

i will get out and and will contribute to something decentralized and anonymous. i always hoped darkcoin could fill that void. i cant blame anyone to stay with this project. you are probably investors trying to win a gold donkey. or you are simply trying to exploit every possible vector of profit in the coins space. whatever. you are not here because darkcoin is something it claims to be.

if you disagree with my statement above, i dont care, but answer that simple question: what if evan duffield suddenly announces he quits the project tomorrow morning?
