2322  Bitcoin / Mining support / power supply / wiring help on: March 12, 2014, 11:15:17 PM
over the last 30 years I've probably replaced 200 power supplies and know where everything plugs in to the mother board but now it's time to get real.

ok - so I have 20 grid seeds ordered and I'll probably dual mine to supplement my btc income and use the gridseeds to mine altcoins - not sure which yet.

so - I have my usb hub, all the usb cables that'll run to the gridseeds from the hub - an ubuntu box ready to go and I stopped by radio shack today to buy barrier strips for the power to the gridseeds.

so - now the question for me if how to I hack these cables up coming out of the PSU to go to my barrier strips to power the gridseeds.

which connectors should I snip off to go to my barrier strips. I do understand that something must be jumpered on the main plug to fool the PSU into thinking it's plugged into a mother board.

any help would be appreciated. ps: I'm looking at a Gold 750W unit for 20 gridseeds.

from what I understand I should be using the pcie connectors to powering the barrier strips?

thanks in advance

I'm overclocked to 200 and I don't get any hardware errors...

my unit is brand new

what do you mean by psu tweaking. I'll probably try to dual mine since the bitcoin is free money vs power used.

I'm going to go with 1200W psu for each 10 gridseeds and I'd hate to underpower them.

2325  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GridSeed GC3355 Scrypt ASIC Ubuntu GNU/Linux installation guide on: March 12, 2014, 04:21:34 PM
Is this plug and play?

I mean do I only have to plug these littles beasts with a USB cable to a USB hub connected to my PC and Ubuntu will recognize them off the bat?

Thanks for your replies.

well - kind of - look here

could someone PLEASE tell me exactly what type of USB Cable end goes into the gridseed so that I know what to buy when I visit Tigerdirect today - thanks. I can't make it out from any of the photos.

thanks

hi jeff,

sorry for the elementary question but I have 20 of these on the way and need to know exactly what type of USM cables I need to hook these up the the hubs I've ordered.

i think you will find everything you need to know (and much more!) in miaviator's complete guide: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494625.0

@miaviator excellent guide by the way! respect.

i didn't follow up on mining with gridseed by the way, because a few other things distracted me recently. Wink my single gc3355 is now sitting in a box doing nothing. :-/

yea - well after looking at every picture in hundreds of posts in that thread I still cannot see a close up of the exact usb cable needed.

 Sad

No problem.
Like I said, HASHRA.com is the site/company that is between the manufacturers and us, now.
I am sure they are completely open to quantity purchases at a substantial discount under retail.
They may not deal with 'group' buys though. Not now anyway. I really don't know.
As I (dimly) recall, their mass quantities were 200 - 1000 - 10,000 - etc.and the price didn't go below $120 each or something like that. Don't quote me on it.
Let me know what you find out. This could get interesting Wink
Wolfey2014

Excellent. Well, again, I'm not calling it a "group buy" if you will. I'm already prepared to buy approx 300 or so myself (at $160 each). Was just hoping to get an extra break if possible.

I'll let you know what I hear back then.

+40 for me...see if you can get the price down to $120 each  Grin

Don't need anything except for the miners themselves. Lets keep this simple and not deal with getting people power supplies, cables or any accessories.

Edit: I keep forgetting that the company I work for opened up a division in China a few years ago. We have frequent video conference calls and have already inquired if they could be a resource for sourcing product. If necessary we could have them deal directly with Gridseed on our behalf. They, of course, would require compensation for their time.

Same here possibly +60 for me at $160... more if together we can get a lower price for larger qty. Got $10K that could go to this possibly.

I'm in for another 30 or 40

thanks - you might think I lived in Colorado or ashington and was smoking something - LOL - I pulled up the file last night and it hit me....duh - remove the #'s

duh - sorry for the brain fart.

it's averaging about 192 gh/s now - up from about 178 - perhaps I should have done some cleaning when I go it - but it's tucked away in a cabinet now in a data center and the luck of shush's pool is being good to me - so I'm not touching it now.

the top of this thread says to change new models to this:

however I don't have a '4e81' entry in my file - am I supposed to add the 4e81 entry?

No need, just change your file to this to clock to 400Mhz:
Code:
package 'cgminer'

config 'asic-freq' 'default'
        option 'freq_value'    '4f81'  #400M
        option 'chip_freq'     '400'
        option 'timeout'       '35'

        #option 'freq_value'     '4d81'  #350M
        #option 'chip_freq'      '350'
        #option 'timeout'        '40'

        #option 'freq_value'    '4c81'  #325M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '325'
        #option 'timeout'       '40'

        #option 'freq_value'    '0b81'  #300M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '300'
        #option 'timeout'       '45'

        #option 'freq_value'    '0981'  #250M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '250'
        #option 'timeout'       '55'

        #option 'freq_value'    '0781'  #200M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '200'
        #option 'timeout'       '70'

        #option 'freq_value'    '4f02'  #193M
        #option 'chip_freq'     '193'
        #option 'timeout'       '70'
Just uncomment the 400 setting and comment out the 350 settings  Smiley
2333  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GridSeed GC3355 Scrypt ASIC Ubuntu GNU/Linux installation guide on: March 11, 2014, 10:13:35 PM
on paper yes miavitor - but in reality it's just one challenge after another so I gave up in installed 'ew'buntu and it's running.

of course now my challenge is to get a bank of two of these gridseeds working.

since they'll be on a bank I'm not sure that the configuration issues will be to get them all working together....

do I have twenty instances of minerd running one for each gridseed?

sudo ./minerd --freq=600 --gc3355=/dev/ttyUSB0 --url=<your pool> --userpass=user:pass

I resolved the issue.

It was about the lib dependencies. Every lib need other lib that need other lib.
I installed a lot and it finally worked.

this worked for me: sudo apt-get install libcurl4-nss-dev

2339  Bitcoin / Mining support / Mining computer for Gridseeds on: March 11, 2014, 12:56:15 PM
So... I have a 20 pack on order and will hopefully arrive later this week.

I've seen where people are controlling the gridseeds with Rasberry's and although I know nothing about Rasberry's I've read that can run a version of Unbuntu so I assume they can run the linux version of cpuminer or one of the other pgograms - of course this is assumption on my part so please correct em if I'm wrong.

My first love OS wise is Linux - Centos in particular - I have 6 but love Centos 5 versions - like 5.5 especially since I can easily deploy multiple instances on used HP (Dell) DL360's using Vmware Esxi 3 which is as stable as the rock of gibraltar.

In any event - my near term goal is to mine two different Altcoins simultaneously - one of the coin with a 20 gridseed array and another altcoin with another 20 gridseed array.

So - my question is this and it's phrased interms of an assumption on my part.

Can only one instance of cgminer can be run on one computer at a time? - Is this true?

Because I want one instance to mine for 'coin a' (controlling one of the gridseed arrays) and another instance will mine for 'coin b' (controlling the other gridseed array).

If I can only run one instance of cpuminer on a computer at a time, I'll just create another virtual machine on my vmware server and run another instance of cgminer on the other virtual machine.

what am I overlooking here and what do I need to be concerned with when hooking up all of these gridseeds on the usb ports.

thanks in advance for any help and or insight

2340  Bitcoin / Mining support / any reason to join more than one pool? on: March 10, 2014, 10:54:02 PM
I just fired up my first S1 and joined slush's pool. I see in the config screen you can configure up to 3 pools. is there any reason to join more than one pool?

Is it worth it for the first few days to see which pool seems luckiest?

thanks in advance,
