2361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using Locktime for inheritance planning or as a backup on: September 02, 2019, 01:14:03 PM
TL;DR
~
Giveaway
Another use I could think of, is when you give away some amount of Bitcoin for some occasion. Let's say a family member gets a baby, and you want to give the kid $100 in Bitcoin, but you don't want to risk it never being used. You can fund a good looking paper wallet, and give the parents the instruction to give it to the kid when he/she turns 18.
You keep a Locktime Recovery Sheet with Locktime 25 years in the future, and if the kid doesn't use the funds (by then hopefully worth a small fortune), you'll take it back after 25 years.
If you don't trust the parents not to touch it, you can give them a Locktime Recovery Sheet with a Locktime 18 years in the future, and keep one with a Locktime 25 years in the future for yourself. That way (when properly generated), nobody can access the funds earlier.

On-topic posts are welcome!

Holy Cow!! This is one of the best ways to give a gift to a newborn. I definitely will follow this method to give some babies a better chance for a easy future, I don't need to look for some stupid gifts they gonna trow in a year or two. Great work man, as always!! Just love reading your posts and ideas. Let's spread love and bitcoin Smiley

Edit: just shared it on my twitter Cheesy

2363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin scammer caught tortured and killed. on: September 02, 2019, 12:05:59 PM
At first, I though that Calvin Ayre got mad on CSW for not being Satoshi and the scammer got what he deserved* , but then I saw India and things changed.
I still get calls from "Microsoft Support" from time to time so, I can't say I really sorry for the guy. Stealing/scamming that kind of amount of money should be seriously punishable. Of course in this case big part of the politicians should be electrocuted which will never happen..
2364  Other / Meta / Re: Merit source growth history, if you know it, please help me on: September 02, 2019, 10:45:29 AM
Let me help you a little, I had some early records, but unfortunately no dates. Sad
Anyway here what I have as info >

I just saw now that the merit sources are 77 now. This s a big increase from 57.

Quote
There are 77 merit sources with a total merit generation of up to 17650 sMerit per 30 days

Looks like theymos is staking out applications and then approve them all together at once. This happened with the previous applicants , from 49 to 57.

OK, let me add some calculations too then.

We stated with 35 Merit Sources (MS for short) on the first day of the Merit system.

On 26th Jan. were already 49 MS. /reference/
Today they are 57 MS.
So for one month from 35 till 57 this is 22 new sources, awesome but...

14 were added for 1 day, so we exclude them to be more realistic /see the reference link above/

Then there are minimum around 8 new MS added per Month!

Since this is the first and only month till now and the data is not enough, we need to give more time to the system to actually see how it is working.
Now it's just speculations.

P.S. The image in the OP is not loading.

You have now, pretty much the whole history of the Merit Sources from the day 1 Smiley

Also, that relatives stuff you said is always a generic alibi since 2017 and it always fail. anyway good luck with that.

They are still off with many days and they keep reducing the gap between the real top 5 ones.
Bump for theymos' attention.
2368  Other / Meta / @themos, Please updated the news feed with the new version of Bitcoin Core. on: September 02, 2019, 07:06:06 AM
As the subject line says, from 2019-08-09 there is a new version, 0.18.1 of Bitcoin Core. You can update the torrent link as well.
There are some minor changes but it's always good to have the last version.
Cheers Smiley

I'll lock this topic to avoid spam Smiley
2369  Other / Meta / Re: The forum stats, are those correct? on: August 30, 2019, 12:47:38 PM
I think those bottom 5 accouts are scraping/reporting bots maybe part of Cyrus' task force Cryptios. We would never know for sure but they are still messing up with the stats.
... so bump for visability...

Good to know. Unfortunately not everyone will get his reward. My Twitter account was deleted together with many others around the Twitter crypto purge time . Anyway Im happy to help the others who took the time to participate in this campaign and are eligible for reward.
Cheers Smiley

I want help from this forum user, also I like help to other people if possible. Sorry for bad english.

Welcome mate,
before you start with the forum, read the pinned threads in this section. The rules will help you to avoid being banned.
If you ever copy something from another source, always post a link to it. Plagiarism is not tolerated at all, one single stupid mistake and you no longer can post on the forum, ever.

I was wrong about the real forum link, it's not bitcoin.org/forum but bitcoin.org/smf
Here is the link to Satoshis profile: http://web.archive.org/web/20100716225740/http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3
2373  Other / Meta / Re: Doubt about BitcoinTalk on: August 29, 2019, 04:41:46 PM
Before to move to the bitcointalk domain, the forum with the same SMF was on bitcoin.org/forum (or something like that, if I remember correctly) . That was the first transition from sourceforge to SMF. Seems that the database was moved to the new domain so that's why you can find the posts prior to the domain registration date.

I do not have a PC around me but if you check the wayback machine you'll find all you need to know.
If you want I can  check it out tomorrow Smiley

Quoted, but I cannot verify it... what wallet are you using? Huh

Most of the common verification systems are unable to verify "3-type" addresses... and it's not verifying in Trezor (which is the only one I know that works with P2SH addresses) Undecided

I manage to verify the address with mycelium on my phone.
Here is the proof :

I manage to verify if from Electrum as well Smiley

2377  Other / Meta / Re: Percentages of DT1, DT2 & normal users in top100 merited profiles, merit senders on: August 27, 2019, 06:49:50 PM
DT has nothing to do with trust (feedback) as a forum measure.
We coming back to the same thing over and over again.
The trust feedback does not put you in the DT.
Adding a person to your trust list is not based on your trading experience with that person, but people are still mixing trust feedback with trust.
We have to change the name of one those so people can stop mixing them.

I bet that only 10% of all the activite users know the difference between the feedback and trust.

   10. Full Member coin_1122 (Trust: neutral) (1 Merit earned (history)) (BPIP)
   11. Sr. Member Btc_1856 (Trust: neutral) (BPIP)

   14. Full Member crustycrab666 (Trust: neutral) (1 Merit earned (history)) (BPIP)
   15. Full Member dongosquad (Trust: neutral) (0 Merit earned (history)) (BPIP)

I'm probably making a giant understatement here, but a lot of these sig spammers seem to be following each other's posts and posting in the same threads. I see the same names appear constantly in the same threads. Makes me believe that many of them are one and the same person.

In the cases quoted above, it's even more obvious: coin_1122 and BTC_1856 have the user numbers 925742 resp. 925744, and crustycrab666 and dongosquad are 995891 resp. 995892.

I suppose the numbers are created in order of forum subscription?

Of course those a part of an account farm, but in order to get them banned/tagged you need to find a solid proof like similar wallet address or social media accounts.
Unfortunately, it's not an easy way.
