241  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Expect the Orginals game to get even bigger - actual games on: January 10, 2024, 03:16:48 PM
Not for Nintendo games though, right?

For Nintendo games.
242  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Expect the Orginals game to get even bigger - actual games on: January 10, 2024, 01:42:51 PM
every interaction with it would need an individual transaction to be mined

That is exactly what they are doing, I looked into their roadmap and they talk about things like saving the game status on the blockchain, next would likely be saving how many zombies you killed (or whatever the Ninja hero does in the game) on the blockchain, those transactions would be tiny in size, combined with other similiar transactions it would be pretty damn cheap, a single on-chain transaction would be enough for a dozen players data.

@stompy, lol, it may look like something that would never work, but given that probably over a hundrred billion dollars are spent on video games every year, i won't be too confident that we won't see many games make it to the blockchain.
243  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: January 10, 2024, 02:26:21 AM
started a thread here in the technical area about it. [/url]

You are going to get some fun comments there  Cheesy, some folks treat Ordinals as an attack on BTC and they don't take kindly any discussion related to them.

But, apparently, they don't "turn off" the machines for the full 14 days.

The math still holds true. If it's 7 days, you just divide everything I mentioned above by 2, and so on. However, I understand the theory behind all this. We've discussed it here, probably since 2019 or so. It's a valid theory. I just don't think the math checks out for a single pool. It makes sense if 3-4 of the largest pools do it, as everything they do to the blockchain would be almost 100% beneficial to them. As it stands right now, the way I see it is that mining pools would be better off spamming the blockchain with high-fee transactions than turning off gears.
244  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Expect the Orginals game to get even bigger - actual games on: January 10, 2024, 01:31:58 AM
What do you mean playing them? Please don't tell me they are turning Bitcoin to a distributed and decentralized play station 6 already?=

Yes, they've inscribed an entire Nintendo Entertainment System simulator on the blockchain, complete with the game code.

Quote
Then they should pay premium fees IM

Currently, you only pay for creating a new "ninja," which is only 1 KB. However, they claim some other features are in the pipeline. For instance, saving the game status on-chain. Imagine finishing level 5, instead of saving that locally, you inscribe that worthless piece of info on the blockchain. So, the next time you open the game, it picks up where you left off. And yes, your friends can witness your game status too.

It's incredible how people find ways to create value out of seemingly trivial things, and even worse how many people buy into this. Love them or hate them, those devs are as sharp as a tack.
245  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: January 09, 2024, 10:14:04 PM
In reality, the fact that the price of Bitcoin is rising is the best time to do so. Since the value in fiat is high, turning off machines does not significantly affect the operation, as the money earned from mining continues to support costs and make a profit.

Well, yes, that's a valid point. However, my argument is, if the profit is high, I'd rather harvest it now. The percentage increase in net profit outweighs the block fee. I'm not saying my point makes more sense than yours, but you need to keep in mind that if Foundry turns off gears to achieve anything (be it higher transaction fees or lower difficulty), they would only benefit from 25% of the goal they set, whereas anything they lose is 100% theirs.

If the above is not clear, let's put it into actual figures. If Foundry underclocks all of its gears by 10%, the effect on difficulty would be a drop of 2.5%, and the transaction fees would only go up by 2.5% (since there would be 2.5% fewer blocks for roughly 2 weeks).

Out of this 2.5% increase, Foundry gets only 22.5%. So if the total fees are 2016 BTC per epoch, they now become 2,066.4. That's an extra 50.4 BTC, of which Foundry would get 11.34 BTC. But they have lost 10% of their cut out of those 14,616 BTC. So instead of making 3,654 (if they kept their 25% share), they would make 3,288. That's a loss of 365.4 BTC in a single epoch.

In the next epoch after that 2.5% difficulty drop, they would make 2.5% more profit. So instead of 3,654, they would make 3,745.35 BTC or 91.35 BTC.

So they are up 91.35 + 11.4 = 102.75 BTC, down 365.4 BTC, net = a loss of 262 BTC.

Obviously, operating at a 10% underclock means more efficiency, and thus their power bill would be lower than just 10%, so maybe we can reduce the loss by 10-20% or even 30%. They are still in a net loss.

Again, another reason I say it would make sense to do that in a bear market where gear efficiency matters most. When net profit is close to zero, gear efficiency matters the most. When net profit is high, you are better off overclocking than underclocking. It's just how I would act if I were them. It's how I conduct my mining business as a small-sized miner.
246  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2024 Diff thread happy New Years. on: January 09, 2024, 08:26:16 PM
see below.  so if you want to argue that foundry is testing my raise the fee concept this evidence certainly is in favor of what I said.
But not conclusive at all.   much like old paternity test. If one guy is type a+ and the other guy is type B-

But foundry found 38 blocks in the last 24 hours, which corresponds to 27% of blocks found, not much lower from their 7-days average of 27.8%, I am not saying they are not doing what you are suggesting because we don't know if the last 7-day representation is even accurate, but don't you think that if they were going to do something like that -- it would be better while BTC price is down? right now BTC sits at roughly 47k which is a very interesting number to most miners and many of them would sell at this price to stack cash for the rainy days, what you suggest would be better down when the price falls, not while going up IMO.
247  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S19j pro + won't connect to mining pool on: January 09, 2024, 07:31:39 PM

Why did you assume that it's your router blocking Braiins OS? it doesn't make sense, if it does -- it would likely block the main pool you using as well, which also explains why the miner did not operate fine with the default firmware

Quote
I could'nt even acces the miner with the standard login of brain os wich is root.
After reset i could login again.

This is bad news then, the miner could be infected with a nightswitcher or some other type of miner virus, otherwise, I see no connection between connecting to the pool and connecting to the miner locally, you also said you have another miner running which means we know neither your router nor ISP is blocking pool connections, so it's likely an issue with the mienr itself.

I would revert back to the original firmware, and use custom DNS like Max suggested, and then troubleshoot form there.. keep in mind if your miner is indeed infected it could inject the other miner you have running so make sure you isolate it for now.
248  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 SE Troubleshooting on: January 09, 2024, 08:28:08 AM
I would simply detach the center board from the 3 power jacks. Mine ran well for years like that.

That would certainly help cool the miner by a lot, unlike removing the hashboard altogether because that would mess with the airflow since air would pass easily through the no-resistance without removing enough heat.

The middle board is the best one to unplug especially given that it is the one that is subject to fail before the other two because of the stupid design on these miners where the front chips of the middle board are right behind the fan motor getting too little airflow.

250  Local / العربية (Arabic) / Re: تم تهكير محفظتي الإلكتريوم on: January 08, 2024, 11:02:55 PM

251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hypothetical ETF disaster hardfork on: January 08, 2024, 10:29:42 PM
and now those same good samaritans that are funding developers start pushing a campaign to engineer a rollback of the blockchain Vitalik style. What would happen?

Nothing, core devs can't do rollback/reorg on the blockchain, only miners can, rollbacks are super expensive (usually cost more than whatever benefit you get from it) and miners who invest their hard-earned money in the space won't even risk going that route, Binance lost 7000 BTC (worth 40M $ at that time) and they didn't get away with a tweet that mentioned the word rollback, let alone trying to actually push that.

Quote
If in the future ETF holders become the 99% and 1% are self-custodians

That won't be possible, the majority of BTC is already in the hands of the people, what's left of it or what those large corps can buy will likely never make a majority, if that happens it means they must spend unrealistic amount of money to acquire them, and if they do -- they would be very careful when attempting anything that might hurt bitcoin and thus hurt their pockets.

IMO, we should not fear those who have skin in the game, people are always worried about miners doing some nasty shit to BTC which is a stupid assumption given that miners have the most skin in the game, others are worried about core devs (many people already claim core devs are controlled by Blockstream "or is it someone else today"?, to me, all of these entities have skin in the game and have more to lose than to gain if they decide to do anything stupid, if there is anyone we should fear would be those old farts in the government.
252  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S9 SE Troubleshooting on: January 08, 2024, 05:16:18 PM
To be able to enable the fan control follow the guide by mikeywith posted from the link below once you enable it try to run it at 85% or higher and let see any changes on the hashboard temp and it should help to cool down a bit your unit.

If he gets temp errors then setting static fan won't help him, the miner would push the fan to it's limit or closet to it before sending any warning, and thus mean, his miner has already tried what you are suggesting but it still failed to operate at reasonable temp, what he should do instead if

1- provide better airflow.
or
2- underclock the miner.

it has been a while since I worked with an S9 SE, but if he follows my guide that you linked to unlock the hidden settings, it's possible to find clock and voltage settings which he can play with.
253  Other / Politics & Society / Re: The "Coalition of Terror" fell apart but US regime isn't giving up! on: January 07, 2024, 12:13:40 AM
attempt at reducing the costs, specially since they claim shooting down a single $2k Yemeni drone costs $2+ million!

This was the primary reason why the Saudi-led intervention failed to defeat the Houthis. These inexpensive drones have revolutionized the nature of warfare. A low-cost Chinese drone has the potential to inflict significant damage on the economy of a nation with a sophisticated defense system. Saudi Arabia spent nearly $265 billion on that war until they were forced to stop. The advanced and sophisticated defense systems they employed cost millions per launch, only to discover that they had targeted a $300 commercial drone purchased from Alibaba  Shocked. The wealthy Saudis couldn't sustain such spending, leading them to engage in negotiations with the Houthis.

It's worth noting that the Houthis' demands are straightforward. I don't know how does the Western media translates their demands, I've heard them in their native language. Their initial condition was to target only ships heading to Israel until the latter ceased the genocide against Palestinians. All other ships were free to sail. Their second demand was to facilitate the passage of humanitarian aid to Gaza; otherwise, other ships might not be safe. The U.S. didn't have to start an expensive operation in the Red Sea. They simply needed to force the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza which happens to be a publicly stated objective of the American administration. This makes you wonder!: Does the U.S control Israel, or is it the other way around?
254  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Jeffery Epseitn, his client list, and his ties to Israel on: January 06, 2024, 11:53:44 PM
If you don't like "the genocide currently being perpetrated on the Palestinian people" I would suggest you ask Hamas to stop using the Palestinian people as human shields.

Quickseller, are you a bot now?  Cheesy. Jokes aside, your attempt to rationalize the unjust killing of innocent people is plain stupid,  Please understand that my use of the term "stupid" is not intended as an insult; rather, it reflects the limited vocabulary at my disposal to characterize your 'yet again stupid' statement.
255  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: January 06, 2024, 10:29:46 PM
You have to add two rules to the analogy
- the bird will only fall after the last buss has left the station

Correct!

Quote
- the bird will not fall unless the driver has already started his engine  Wink
The last one is tricky because in the analogy the driver just spends gas while in the mining scenario it can actually profit.

Ya I'd say turning off the engine is not an option here, so maybe the bus driver needs to roll down his window while the engine is running and burning gas? Cheesy me and my bus fudge analogies.

Those fees are driving us all crazy that we started to think it empty blocks are a thing of past eras but no, the mempool was empty for at least a few seconds during last springs, not full blocks were quite common and there were some moments when indeed it was empty, of course not for more than a few seconds probably till the next tx came but it still did happen.

I think it's likely a gltich on the mempool you were checking, otherwise, if that was the case, then we should have seen some empty blocks that are somewhat spaced in propagation time, LoyceV maintains a list of empty blocks somewhere IIRC, might worth checking.

The block timestamp is set by the pool when it sends work to the miner.
Some miners can also increment the timestamp - but it is not when the block was found.

Is it safe to assume that block timestamps are likely set into the future, I don't know exactly how pools handle the timestamp but judging by the(MPT) rule it's safer for a miner to write block timestamp slightly into future , in case the previous blocks were pushed into future which would invalidate their blocks,  it also gives miners an advantage of having a lower difficulty adjustment (nothing much, below 1% indeed if they all pushed the blocktime into the future), plus getting a wider nonce range without having to alter the Merkle root.?
256  Other / Archival / Re: Looking for a pro developer! on: January 06, 2024, 08:29:30 PM
Did you come up with that rule just now?

No, it is common sense, scam isn't always directly related to $$, wasting people's time and effort on something you have already decided not to uphold to is scam, go try that on any freelancer website, there is a good reason why those websites have buyer's ratings and many buyers are banned everyday, because many people would just post fake jobs and devs would spend time and efforts on something none of them stands a chance of getting paid for.

The problem here is, you are not a developer  and you think preparing a serious offer takes only 10 mins, which is not true, it takes at least 10 hours for a pro dev to get an accurate estimate of a project of such nature, do you think it is fine to waste 10 hours of even 10 mins of 10 people's time?

Quote
Nobody here can dictate to me how I should do businessTypical, go scare some kids, I'm not one. 😉

I am not trying to do any of that, all am saying is: if someone proved you are just trolling here, they would likely flag you, and that flag would be supported by many including myself, obviously proving that you never intended to buy the service is not going to be easy, but if someone posts an offer for $50 and you refuse it for being expensive, many people would assume that you were indeed trolling and wasting people's time.

I am not accusing you of anything, i have nothing against you, just stating the possible outcome of your actions.
257  Other / Archival / Re: Looking for a pro developer! on: January 06, 2024, 05:53:18 PM
I fail to see the difference.

What I am saying is that there is a distinct difference between offering a service you can't provide and a service you can provide, the service you tagged him for was something he "could" provide.

- I will remove negative feedback left by DT members = can't provide
- I will make you 20 years younger  = can't provide
- I will speak to the people who left you the negative tags to try and resolve the issue = can provide
- I will send your prayers to god (saw someone offering this service) = can provide  -- although you can't tell if your prayers will be sent anyway.

If someone contacted him for his 'lawyer service' and he admitted that it was just trolling then that would be worth tagging, which applies here to, if someone proves that this request is nothing but trolling -- it's worth a flag.

I won't pretend that I read every comment on that subject you referenced in your feedback, the OP itself was not worth tagging IMO, if he at some later point said he was trolling and never intended to offer the service, then that's something different.

258  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: January 06, 2024, 01:32:44 PM
Pools hitting zero fee blocks due to censoring tx's are going to face class action lawsuit possibilities maybe not now maybe not after 2024 ½ ing but by 2028

This would be true if they had the chance to include transactions and chose not to, but this isn't the case, and probably will never be the case for any pool out there, every pool on the planet mines empty blocks except for Kano and CK, maybe a few more here and there, it would be very hard to prove that x pool intentionally mined an empty block while they had the chances to include transactions, I believe antpool did it around the blocksize debate and the forks, but it's not something you could take to court, they can just claim they had a bug in their software and they were not able to create a block templet with transactions.

However, Ocean pool is at risk of dying on its own if the Ordinal wave continues and its clients see that they are missing out on some good profit just because Luke decided to ban/censor ordinal transactions, this theory holds true assuming all of their clients do know and understand how mining fees work, but then seeing a pool like Antpool that provides PPLNS for 0% while keeping 100% of the transaction fees still has users mining on their PPLNS -- it simply proves that many people are just stupid. if Ocean attracts the same type of people, those people won't even care to check if they are making less and will continue to run on Ocean.

Of course, this is good for everybody else who uses a pool that doesn't ban ordinals, every sat of fee that Ocean leaves on the table is going to be taken by someone else, I'd rather see stupid people mine on Ocean than see them mine on antpool PPLNS, since they are going to lose money anyway, it's better to lose it the other miners and not to Bitmain.
259  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Eligius pool is back under the new name Ocean on: January 06, 2024, 08:57:32 AM
but these days is VERY rare but still does happen.

It is not very rare, it is more like impossible, mempool has not been empty for years, not for a single moment.
Quote
Humorous analogy but not right

Please point what is not right about it.
Quote
Difference is Ocean chooses to not include any tx's related to ordinals whereas Kanopool and all the others accept all of them so scheduling the tx's is easy

But that is not why they mined an empty block, it is not like they had no other transactions to include, nor the censorship of ordinals makes block template handling slower, their Knots nodes could be slower than core, but i wouldn't imagine a huge difference.

Quote
Um, for whatever reason(s) Luke's original Eligius pool software was exceeding slow at processing new work and because of that yes even back then he was doing empty blocks.

In his tweet he talks about a fee seconds, about 6 seconds difference between receiving the block and propagating his own, so ya certainly longer than Kano's.
260  Other / Archival / Re: Looking for a pro developer! on: January 05, 2024, 11:06:07 PM
For example my red trust on him is based on the fact that he was asking money for a service that he couldn't have possibly been able to deliver, i.e. blatant fraud attempt.

Uhm... there is zero difference between these instances of him offering some sort of a deal, that he (IMO) has no intent on upholding.

In the thread you referenced, said mentioned:

Quote
I will act as your lawyer in negative trust cases. if you believe that you were tagged wrongfully, I will defend you by following the forum rules.

It was something "he could do". We do that all the time for free on the reputation board, don't we? In the same topic, LoyceV mentioned

Quote
Interesting service! I did something similar for free last month. Two weeks ago user eddie13 suggested I start "forum related representation services", which I declined.

The way I view his service is that you are some innocent member who got some tag you think you don't deserve, and he would "defend" you using the forum rules, i.e., not by bribing DT members or anything of that nature. He would just investigate your case, start a topic providing proof of why you are innocent and whatnot. The whole thing would change if his service was "Hire me, and I will remove the red tags on your profile." That was indeed something he can't do, but "defending someone" is something anyone can do as long as they don't guarantee the outcome.

Besides, that was most likely some excessive trolling by him, done to prove some weird point. I understand why some of you would view him that way; he puts himself in that position. Personally, I don't think he is a terrible person. If he stops trolling (not going to be easy for him, I suppose), he has a good chance of being a net positive to the forum. If I compare digaran to jvanname, I see the former hasn't lost hope; he just needs to change, whereas the doctor's case is probably unfixable.

Well, dayuum. since when asking for price on a project is a waste of time? What if I'm not satisfied with the offer of the first dev and would want to wait for others to offer their terms as well? You talk like as soon as the first person coming here I'd need to bend over and say yes to their demands? Typical mikeywith. 😉

That is indeed not what I meant, and I am sure you know what I mean. If you have no real intention of buying the service you are requesting, be honest with yourself and delete the thread. You may not understand the efforts and time it takes to prepare an offer for such a service you are requesting, but I am telling you, it's a lot of work. So if there is zero chance that my offer is going to be accepted (only possible if you are indeed trolling), then that would be viewed as you scamming me for my time and efforts.
